I love my Alen filters and their customer service is top notch. The app is just OK though. Forces you to have to enter your login credentials frequently. No option to at least save them with Face ID or fingerprint. You have to type the entire credentials in when this happens. Why do we need fort-Knox security protocols to adjust settings on air filters?? Please fix this necessary and annoying issue. The indoor humidity and temperature readings are blank. This is identical for all four of my filters which include two different models and are located in two different buildings. The screenshots on the App Store clearly depict a screen showing the indoor temperature and humidity. On all four of my units these values simply show as “- -“ It would be great if the app team could get on-par with the product team and customer service team.
I am adding to my review. Originally, about 3years ago I easily connected my devices. A bit over a year ago I left the below review. After maybe 40 brain numbing tries I finally got my 2nd 45i to connect to the app. Ridiculous. Recently both of our devices became disconnected. Once again the app WILL NOT PAIR. The air purifiers are great but this has to be the worst app on the planet. If you can not connect your devices what’s the point. Once again I’ve tried to reconnect each device over a dozen times. After a 10 minute process it fails EVERY TIME. I have plenty of other devices and apps that require the same parameters and they connect and work. Don’t bother with the app when you can’t connect. I am not the only customer who has this problem. It would be nice if Alen would fix the problem. last upgrade 2.0.1 I can no longer get into my app. It opens to the Alen page and then closes. I have tried everything short of uninstalling and reinstalling the app. If I must reinstall the app I can not connect my 45i anymore because that pairing process will not work with my split 2.4/5 g Wi-Fi. So, I will lose connection to my purifier. Since Alen does not provide connection with this type of Wi-Fi the app will no longer serve a purpose. Really unfortunate. So, it would be nice if I could get the app to open without having to reinstall.
The app is fine I didn't even know it existed until after owning my purifiers for years. I like that I can adjust the settings on all of my 45is at once but it's necessarily convoluted. Basically I want to be able to swap between sleep mode and auto mode and have them locked. To go from sleep to auto I have to unlock all the devices, select manual mode because auto doesn't show up as an option when in sleep mode, select auto mode and then re-lock all devices. That's twelve clicks to accomplish what should be two. Confirming I want to change the settings every time is unnecessary, you should be able to change modes while leaving the unit locked and auto mode missing while in sleep mode is obviously a bug. It would nice to have a routine you could just set for everything if it's not possible to let me switch modes for all devices while the units are locked.
My purifier is in a room where my indoor rabbits live. There is rabbit air, hay, hay dust, and other waste. The smell of the hay and litter boxes is why I got this filter. There is no way the app is true. It says the air quality is perfect yet there is dust flying through the air. I can still smell the litter boxes (which are changed daily) in the hallway. The filter currently is caked in dust and hair but the machine and app both claim it is at 100%. Not possible. Any time I turn off the filter to clean it, and turn it back on, it is no longer paired to the WiFi and no longer associated with my account. What is the point of adding my device to the account if it forgets it so easily? I am disappointed in this machine. I had a different brand before and the app worked better and the air was filtering better and it was Alexa compatible. That one wore out too quickly so I thought a more expensive machine might do better. Nope.
Right out of the gate I think this app does exactly what it needs to do: -Remotely control it (off/on, speed, ionizer etc) -Filter status/life remaining % (give it 5 minutes and it will update from “replace” to an accurate status) -See outdoor air quality vs indoor (is the unit effective? And my personal experience… yes, yes it is! No more lingering cooking 🧑🍳 catastrophes of smoke that linger for days) -immediately responsive. My purifier acts immediately when I ask it to do anything from the app. -UX is intuitive and runs without ANY bugs 🐛 or glitches yet. Very impressed Room for improvement: -I see the outdoor air quality black line but I don’t see the white indoor air quality line yet. Maybe it takes a day to figure it out and display 🤷♂️ -Able to have my 75i on auto with the display lights off. It’s a nice nightlight but sometimes I don’t want to see it. -Access to subscription within the app. I can see that this is in the works due to the “my Alen ID” page and agree that this would be a great addition in a coming update. -lastly, dark mode please 🙏
App will open to title and then shut off. Can’t see any data or control it at all. App still needs a lot of work on the air quality charts. Since outdoor and indoor air quality is typically very different, the result is a chart that’s hard to read as you’re view extremes. Also, it’s not possible to adjust the view via touch screen. Essentially, it’s not a value add. I’d prefer to be able to filter so I just see indoor air quality as don’t care about outdoor seeing as I’m inside. The only time it’s helpful is when I’m going to open windows so I know to turn the machine off. I can get that information other places though. It would be helpful to add a button in the app to control the light. It’s inconvenient to have to go to the physical unit to adjust it as usually the time I need you adjust it is at night when I’m in bed. Thanks!
You would think a respected company like Alen would have a top notch app. Not sure if they have a good developer or engineer putting this together but there is a reason it is rated only a 3 out of 5. In particular it does not reflect accurately the air quality shown on the Purifiers control panel. Shows 1 and switches between blue and green when purifier is orange. I’m not an expert but expected better app.
Very limited app for a $700 air purifier. The only functions it allows are for turning the unit on and off and for putting it into sleep mode. It does give you a history of the air quality encountered and the ability to have notifications based on room air quality. On the other hand the app on BlueAirs fairly basic machines give you complete control. You can turn it on and off, change settings, make incremental blower speed adjustments and make incremental adjustments for the brightness of the LED displays. Please, we need some improvements here.
This is such a cool app! It is user friendly, has a sleek design, and was easy to pair to my 75i. I love that it tells me more about my air quality and I can see how hard my 75i air purifier is working to make my air fresh and clean. The 75i has made a huge difference in my air quality and has helped me sleep better (no more waking up with an itchy throat from allergies!). This app is a great addition to my air purifier.
Does what it’s supposed to, look great, intuitive interface, and awesome features — like historical air quality history! It took a while — but I must say, it was well worth the wait! I can now dump the generic Smart Life application I’ve been using with these devices for quite a while now :)
The new Alen app was easy to pair with my BreatheSmart 75i, although I had to put the unit in pairing mode a second time to complete the process. The app seems to work quite well for controlling the 75i functions and providing information about air quality both at the unit and for my location. Well done and easy to use.
The app is working ok and doing what it should and the only problem I see is that it doesn’t continually keep good tracking of the air quality inside on a certain unit meaning I have gone days without seeing any white dots on my inside aqm graph but the unit is still on wi-if maybe it’s a bug but seems to happen more with one of my three units more
The app is wonderful when it works, but with every update it disconnects at least 1 of our 3 units from the app. Then we inevitably end up having issues trying to get the app to recognize & reconnect those units again. It is a very convenient app, but not very reliable or user friendly for those of us who are less tech savvy.
This is definitely a 5 star app, it was very easy to set-up my older 75i that I purchased back in March of 2020, the unit is running perfectly and all I had to do was download the new app. I also really like the air quality tracker that shows the air quality in my apt over time, Great app Alen!!
This app and 75i has improved my life in so many ways. I never understood the importance of air quality. I have a spouse who has Asthma and it has helped him. I am so glad he bought this. Customer service explained all my spouses questions. What a great product this has been.
So, I just determined the app will not let you turn the lights on or off for night mode via the app anymore. Why? Also agree with other comments regarding having to re login again and again - for air purifiers. If there is some sort of security issue, PLEASE add face ID to this app. Super annoying.
I was looking forward to setting up this app and getting more info and control over my air filter. However after going through the setup process, I stopped at the part where it asks for address and “precise location”. This is completely unnecessary and a total invasion of privacy. The fact that it needs location at all to setup the device is an overstep. I won’t be setting the app unless the location requirement is removed.
What a great app! This app gives you total visibility to the quality of the air in your home and business; allowing you to ensure you have the purest/safest air available. Very easy to use! Alen products are best in class and I would highly recommend.
Update to my original post: I was able to resolve this issue by deleting the app and reinstalling. Original post: The app was really good until recently and now it crashes after opening. Useless at the moment. Hopefully it will be addressed soon.
Requires precise location, Wi-Fi password, set’s up and requires use of it’s app specific Wi-Fi connection. During setup it states that app will not work on 5GHZ network. I could not get it to function at all using 2.4 GHz connection either. It prevented me from competing setup. (I did turn on unit’s Wi-Fi discovery feature) There’s no need to have access to my specific location and outdoor air quality for controlling an indoor air cleaner. I’m not trying to control the AQ outside.
Not sure what happened but this app requires me to re login ever 2-3 times an hour on even though I used it 20-30 mins ago. I know security is important but I only need to re authenticate once a week to work but 5 times a day to change my air purifier settings????
This app works great and does pretty much what it needs to do. For me, that is seeing the air quality history and remote start stop. Bonus feature: I was able to y turn off the lights on top of the unit!
Love my air purifier, but the app is a bit basic (while it looks nice). One big missing feature is the ability to create schedules so that I can schedule it on a certain level when I sleep and then auto the rest of the day. Blueair has this, seems like a big gap.
Why does it need precise location? My general area should be enough to compare with outside air. Not interested in using the app if it’s going to track me. Update after developer response: The app does indeed require precise location to add a device. Here is the error message: “Alen uses precise location to add device(s), please go to settings on this device and switch on precise location.”
The app simply will not connect the device to my wifi. I have a strong internet signal and an added booster. All other wifi connected devices are working well. My new Alen BreatheSmart 75i True HEPA Air Purifier just won't connect. I've tried multiple times. It's a pricey item being advertised as wifi compatible that won't actually connect to wifi via its own app. Very disappointing.
This app was a breeze to install, and easily paired with all of my Alen products. I love the vibrant and sleek design. Having all of my Alen unit/filter details at my fingertips is super convenient. Great job once again Alen!
I think the air purifiers are great but the app is severely lacking when compared to competitors like Levoit. I would like to be able to change to fan speed (or better have it do it automatically when it detects lower quality air) or shut off the display of my 75i.
The recent app update no longer shows actual % filter life. This is a big downgrade that appears to be purposely pushing users to change the filter early. This may increase filter sales but is not right for either the customer or environment - shameful and wasteful.
Requires unnecessary personal data, including exact/precise location. Their response is a lie because they will say to ‘just put any address’ but it is REQUIRED to turn on PRECISE LOCATION on your phone. But they conveniently don’t mention that part, not remove it to be a required setting to use the app.
Never had issues using the app as a controller but it sometimes incorrectly reflects the state of my air purifiers. For example, I have seen my air purifier at speed 3 on the orange band yet the app states it is on the blue band and that the indoor air quality is at 1.
I’ve quite literally been trying to pair my 75i to my phone for years. Tried again today after not trying for another year bc it made me so mad last time, and still I can’t connect. I’ve tried everything and I give up at this point.
I have 2 i75 units and the app is way off with the unit. If the app has blue color (excellent air quality), the unit is on orange. I even unplugged the unit from the power supply and it does not sync right away. It has been 10 minutes unplugged and still shows as running on the app. What a joke!
I had downloaded this app a while back and worked well. Recently, they must’ve updated the app and since then the app tries to load and then crashes. I can’t open the app at all.
I’m running an iPhone 12 Max on iOS 16.4.1(a) and, since updating this app to V.2.0.1, it now crashes at launch. Loads the initial Alen Air splash screen, then crashes back to the phone Home Screen. It’s basically useless at this point.
The latest version has made this app totally unusable. It will not even open. Medical conditions in our house make this more than simply an inconvenience. Not a good situation - please provide a remedy.
I can’t look at the condition of my air purifier/filter status because the app won’t open at all. I have checked for updates and nothing. I open it and it immediately shuts down. Very disappointing for a high price air purifier.
The app worked initially but has not worked or opened for 2 weeks now…..someone in tech should fix this so it can be used to monitor the excellent equipment they sell, the app does it an injustice
I like the concept. But I have had to reregister my purifier a few times in the app, it keeps disappearing. I also setup schedules but they don’t work at all. Needs some work.
The buttons controlling the air-purifier functions frequently freeze up so that I can’t use the app to do things like change the fan speed or to put the purifier into sleep mode.
The walkthrough on this app is poorly thought out, your address can’t be manually entered nor do any of the compatible devices we own actually manage to connect to our Wi-Fi.
Been trying to register my 75i without success. Wanted to sign up for auto filter replacement also without success. Downloaded app only to find the app requires network ID and password!!!
I’ve tried connecting my air purifier to the app 6 times and it still won’t connect. I absolutely hate the app but the purifier itself doesn’t seem bad but I just want to see the readings it’s getting.
The data collected takes hours to update. You can’t download the data to look for trends. The scale of the data particle count does not automatically adjust
