Both the sample itself and this app desperately need updated. It’s just way too much work to get samples into the machine, and the idea that you can only do this using an app significantly limits the lifespan of the Volca Sample. 1. Allow files to be imported to the app using Dropbox, OneDrive, iCloud folders, etc. Korg has this ability already built in to the Gadget’s Bilbao and Abu Dhabi modules, so it shouldn’t be that hard to add. 2. Allow samples to be imported directly to the Volca Sample from a computer 3. Add the ability to edit the in and out point of recorded samples in the app 4. Update the Volca Sample firmware to allow direct recording into a memory slot without a computer or iOS device.
It’s hard to believe a company as amazing as Korg just doesn’t care about the software side of the business They spend no effort to make good functional software. They have incredible hardware but simply haven’t kept up with the times with software. They really should invest a dedicated team just For Korg software. The retro collection of vst sound good but bad interfaces. Their apps sound great but horrible user experience and interfaces. It’s amazing how such a good company can fall so short. Truth is they can’t, they just don’t care about their software! It is obvious that they don’t read or at least care what users wrote in the comments. Nothing changes. The app developers don’t really Change anything. Such a shame. The volcas are great. All korg hardware is great but they need to catch up with rest of the world. Look at Moog apps. Look at Roland. Korg is so far at bottom of the list. Shame
I have about fifteen pieces of Korg gear and all of their apps. I have updated my Korg devices from my iOS devices. I did it with the Monotribe and Monologue ( of course with the Monologue I had to do further updates from my Mac but for firmware-easy. Even on the Volca-firmware update easy as pie. I deleted about ten samples to add some of my own. No dice- error message. Volume up volume down different cords- iPhone and different iPads—- get an error every time. So I thought at least I could just restore the factory settings. NOPE. THIS APP IS CRAP. If my laptop gives me the same issues then the Volca sample will be sent back. This is an easy process! Beeps, blips, and noise and your samples should be on there. Update -finally got it to work but only on iPhone. Using it on iPads is useless which makes no sense to me because it’s the same audio files that they play into the device but for some reason only easy iPhone works. I would change my review but since the app is so darn slow I will keep it at the same low rating. In my 10 years of owning apps, beta testing a boatload of audio apps, and owning ALL of Korg’s apps -they have never responded to any of my emails regarding any of their apps. So lately I am in a “why bother“ stage with their iOS apps. So obviously if you have the Volca sampler it is a decent app to have but be ready to be frustrated.
This is a game changer in my audio game, period. I had an iPhone 7 with no headphone jack but now that I have an iPad i downloaded this app and my volca sample is back in a big way. If only I’d thought of this earlier,I’d be happier but this is the best thing about my iPad by far. You have to turn up the volume on the device you use to about 3/4 of all the way up to get the volca to respond, and you have to click each sample in the app on the iOS device you use to send the sample to the volca, but other than that the app is straightforward. Korg is the greatest of all time for this.
...but mostly. Audio Share or “open in” support would be very much appreciated and incredibly useful. As it stands, this app is only somewhat useful for two things... live mic recordings and system updates. Live mix recordings can be edited some, but not a whole lot. It’s basically a simplistic means to provide your Korg Volca Sample with the ability to record live sounds (in a VERY round about way). Sadly, sound from any of your other iOS apps will require you to jump through a whole bunch of seemingly unnecessary hoops. If you go into his with extremely low expectations, then this isn’t too terrible.
I like the app. The file sharing is super easy and everything else is good except is there any way you could make it where when i save on my phone, it automatically saves on my iPad? That’s all. LOVE MY SAMPLE! Update: It does do that. I’m just slow. Haha. Ty again! Update: ok so you can trim your own recording but can’t trim one you import. That would be super helpful so I don’t have to go trim it in another app first. It doesn’t have to be all crazy with deep editing features. Just a way to simply trim it.
I find this free app is easy to use, simple and serves its purpose for me. I can easily upload 100 WAV samples from my iPad to my Sample 2. My only complaint is that it is limited to only assign 100 sample slots. I only have an iPad/iPhone as a way of uploading samples to my Volca unit. So I would really like to see an update for us Sample 2 users that only have an iPad/iPhone and AudioPocket as a way upload samples. I’d like to be able to utilize all 200 sample slots on my Sample 2 using the equipment i have and the app.
Now that the app has access to Files my phone is the perfect companion to the volca sample. I am no longer limited to recording inside the app or using my computer to transfer sounds to the app. I have had no problems with it. This, along with sound-editing apps on my phone, gives me everything I need to acquire, edit, and sequence samples in a portable hardware format.
Is this mobile app better than the various computer programs geared for volca sample? No. Does that make it a bad app? No. Very happy with being able to edit the sample bank on the go. If you compare this to the programs avail for computer you might be disappointed; However if you view it as a simple way to get samples into your device ON THE GO you will not be disappointed. If you travel with your Volcas, download it!
To transfer audio from one app to another app involves using open in or audio copy. This uses neither. The only way to copy files is to connect your iPad to computer and then transfer to the iPad. If I have a computer why do I need to use my iPad and this app. I was just transferred directly from my computer to Sample. This is just an obvious statement. Now if I make a sound on my iPad and then want to transfer it to Sample, I would need to transfer the sound from my iPad to my computer back to my iPad then finally in the Sample. That is absurd. Just add open in or audio copy. It’s a no-brainer.
Two requests: Allow me to trim samples I’ve loaded in AudioPocket from my computer so I can reduce size before loading onto volcano without needing a separate app on the computer to trim. Works great on samples I recorded on the phone, add for loaded samples as well. Ability to open sounds made in other apps on my phone into AudioPocket
This utility is app is ridiculously basic, but not even being able to edit your sample AFTER you save it is just stupid. When I’m out in the field, I need more granular control to edit samples, and certainly not only given one chance to do so!!! Also, there needs to be an option to transfer multiple samples at a time. Doing it slot by slot is maddeningly slow. KORG - YOU CAN DO BETTER!!!! If VOSYR CAN DO IT FOR FREE, YOU CAN TOO!!
I haven’t had any problems or complaints with it so far. I think it’s neat that I can create samples from my phone and load them onto my Volca Sample so easily
When I’m trying to transfer samples, error pops up even though I am doing everything correctly. I deleted some slots and still wont let me transfer my own samples. If I can’t get it to work I will eat broken glass ^.^
It’s strange this app hasn’t been updated in over a year, especially since the Volca Sample 2 came out. It’s annoying there is no way to link my iPhone to Volca Sample 2 other than a stereo jack. iPhones don’t even come with aux inputs anymore. Now I have to buy a dongle to get this connected. Not a good experience when I just bought the Volca sample 2. Very wack. There should be a more user friendly way.
I love how easy it is to capture and transfer a sample, but it would be great to be able to edit samples again after they are captured, or to be able to audition the cropped section before committing to saving.
I can’t believe I’ve owned the Volca Sample 2 for so long and this still hasn’t been updated. What’s the point of extra sample slots if the app can’t load anything on to them?? This should have been updated before the hardware released, way to stick it to customers 💰💰
I’ve been trying to upload samples into my sample but every time all the parameters light up and I get an error message on the screen. What is the point of this device if you can’t upload your own samples in a convenient way? At least add multiple ways to transfer samples so I don’t have to use this app.
The beauty of the Volcas is their price, quality, and PORTABILITY. The new Volca Sample 2 has a USB port so this app needs to be updated in order to take advantage of that without having to drag a laptop around. Korg, please do this soon. It would be VERY much appreciated. Thanks
I used this years ago and it seemed to work fine. Nowadays I need to go pouring through sub-reddit to even try to find answers to the “err dcod” and I still can’t fix it. Why the didn’t put a factory reset on the actual box itself, I’ll never know. Dropped the ball big time.
Just terrible. Each optional dive takes minutes to load. The deeper you go, the longer you wait, and the more frustrated you become. I just want to update the firmware. This shouldn’t be so difficult...
The VolcaSample could have been great if they hadn’t made it dependent on iOS and an app that simply does not properly function. You can’t transfer files. Only the factory presets. Huge miss by Korg.
Uhhh...no thanks. I at least need to be able to crop them. That's a bare minimum feature and you must have known you were making a useless app w/o it. Why even do it.
Please update for volca sample 2. I tried this app on the volca sample 2 and it reverted the system to be a volca sample 1! I lost 50 sample slot and factory samples won’t download. Luckily It didn’t brick and I can still use.
This app will delete your sample slots. My Volca now reads #3 to #97. #0, #2, #98, and #99 are supposed to be there and they have completely disappeared. In addition, no transfers are working. None. Horrible app.
Thank you for the update with Files.app integration! This makes my workflow so much easier! There were other good options in iOS for importing samples but none of them survived the 32-bit app purge, so it’s nice to see this app updated for the modern age.
Send sample data directly from your iPhone to your volca sample! AudioPocket enables you to program your volca sample memory with audio samples from the following: • The app. Record on-the-spot with the app, where you can preview, trim and normalize your impromptu sample recording. • Your computer. Using iTunes File Sharing, just drag and drop into “AudioPocket documents” • Factory presets. Choose from a library sound-designed by KORG. Compatible audio files: “aif”, “aiff”, “wav”, “mp3”, “caf”, “aac”, “m4a” What is volca sample?
