Besides being terribly confused for a good 3 minutes by the fact that instead of a nice block to represent cleaning on the timeline, there’s a weird squiggly shape that looks like an uneven cleaning job (hint: it’s a drawing of the side view of the genie box... why???)... Besides that, now I have to toggle down each time I go to the Devices page in order to see which setting my box is currently on. As someone whose cat has moods, which include sleeping in his box, sometimes I have to toggle off Auto because there’s no reason to clean. The new design assumes a single user has multiple boxes and doesn’t want to see anything more than the name of the box and a “start” button. This requires normal users with only one box to click an extra time just to view basic information that was previously displayed right away, and doesn’t actually save any space. Scrolling down, if you REALLY have more than 3 boxes, is very easy. Finding the right place to click, now, to view what setting my box is on, is NOT easy and VERY ANNOYING. PUT IT BACK.
Being able to control the CatGenie from my phone and monitor the use and cleaning solution with the app was one of the main reasons I bought it. The app worked for about a month and I’ve done everything possible to get it to work. I even deleted it and reinstalled, but now I can’t even get it to accept my phone number. Please update the app and fix the bugs!
The first couple of weeks this app worked great. I’m getting notifications when a cat visits (uses the litter box) and when the litter box cycles. I’m able to see how many cycles are left with the current container of SaniSolution, what time the visit occurred and a cycle ran, and I’m able to change the mode that triggers a cycle. Problem: Now, I’m only getting notifications when a cat visits. The app stopped updating about everything else completely. I don’t get a notification when a cycle occurs, the SaniSolution is stuck at 238 washes left (I use Cat Activation mode which apparently doubles the number of washes), the last cat visit and cycle times aren’t updating, and I can’t even change the trigger mode for the cycle. Attempted Solution Steps: There’s just no information on this online that I could find so I tried the following... 1. Shutting down the app completely. I’ve removed the app from the background and restarted my phone. 2. Unplugged the CatGenie for 5 minutes and then plugged it back in. 3. Opened the app and..... DOES NOT WORK. Other than the app, the CatGenie works great. It’s still on Cat Activation mode and cleans the litter box really well. Just in case there are those who will use this as a reason not to get the CatGenie. I still recommend it. Just don’t get the “AI” that doesn’t work so well.
I have had the catgenie app for about a week and it does almost everything I expect it to. I only have a couple issues with it 1) my cats sometimes like to jump in and out of the litter box multiple times before the 10 minute cat activation countdown is done. That is fine, except in my diary and in my catgenie health indicator, it dings the health score of my CatGenie, prompting me to buy another catgenie (I only have two cats, so no) or to clean my catgenie more often. I would like to see multiple visits within a short time span (say 10 minutes) only count as one visit in the health indicator score. 2) I wish it had the functionality of determining which cat was using the catgenie.
We’ve had this for over a month, 4 cats. Would like to see the ability to reset the diary. We have a couple of cats that jump in and out so it triggers a visit- maybe a time frame like 5 mins. before it counts as a visit. This has definitely helped with litter box behaviour issues and saving time. Spouse teased me for about a week, not anymore. We should have made this investment along time ago. Also, it may be helpful for those with multi cats to identify which cat is frequent user, could be a health indicator.
I love the CatGenie but the app/software leaves a lot to be desired. Since the last release every notification has a dozen duplicates that all hit my phone at the same time. It’s so awful I had to shut off notifications. On top of that - since the last software update was pushed to the CatGenie it perpetually states that the light guide needs to be cleaned no matter what action you take (pull it apart for a thorough cleaning, extra cycles, replacing the light guide etc.). It also doesn’t prevent it from running which indicates a programming issue. Please do better CatGenie!
I wouldn’t recommend buying this product until the most recent horrible update to the app is fixed. There is no point to having the app on my phone anymore. With the latest update you took away the ability to press the “play” button on my phone. Now everything has to be done at the unit. If there was an issue with the unit before I’d get an alert and could fix it remotely. Not a possibility now which means I have to turn off cat activation mode if I want to leave the house and not wonder if the cats will have a functioning litter box.
All is working fine with the app that I recently reported that the average times were incorrect. I discovered that the start date Is determined automatically so there were a number of days where the device was not in use. As a result I think the app works fine.
I love my CatGenie, but this app needs to be fixed. It’s literally unusable unless you delete it and re-download it EVERY time you use it. Otherwise the home page will not let me press anything. If my CatGenie ever stops working, I’m going to try to find a different self-cleaning litter box because this company is so incredibly unprofessional. You charge an ungodly amount of money for a product with a selling point of being able to use it with an app, and then the app doesn’t even work. What a joke.
So this is my 3rd CatGenie!! Each one better than the last!!! I have 3 cats and I purchased the AI version to have the recirculated air (keeps the smells from filling the house). Plus it talks to you verses beeping at you!! The app is awesome and I would have given 5 stars but nothing is perfect!! Everything works fine except the events and I really don’t care about that.. keep up the good work👍🏻
App is pretty basic and doesn’t have a great UI. I could get over that if it at least stayed connected. Any time my internet or WiFi blips out the app thinks it has lost connection to the unit, even when it comes back on. The device reconnects just fine, so the issue is somewhere on the app side.
I understand that the Cat Genie AI is a newer product, and they definitely have a lot of kinks to work out. My wife’s phone wouldn’t and still won’t connect at ALL, but yet right after trying hers, my phone connected immediately. And also the timing of the activity is all wrong and won’t update correctly. I can definitely see where the app is heading, but it needs a “push-start”.
Connects just fine for me (was actually very fast in connecting to my device). Though, I’m supposed to be able to see my cats “activity”. My cat has visited the genie a couple times, I’ve received notifications, but the activity summary in the app is not intuitive, nor does it records my cat’s activity. Looking forward to bug fixes and a better functioning app
Crazy how much the device costs vs. how bad the app is. After updates were made to the app you still can’t have more than one user on an account. Huge disappointment that my husband and I can’t both control it on our phones. This app was poorly designed without enough user research. But I HAVE to use it... so i guess idk what their motivation would be to make it better. Please take notes from the iRobot people.
App suddenly stopped updating the diary. I have to completely delete and reinstall the app to get a diary update. It worked great until the latest app update which was supposed to “fix” the diary problem. LOL. So the Genie itself is a life changer but the AI part that I paid xtra for, not good. Long way to go app developers. Sorry I paid more for the AI version. Please keep working on it!
I bought a CatGenie AI in early 2021. I just recently paired the app and it seems to work great. No issues connecting or configuring. Very pleased. Looks like CatGenie addressed the complaints in the negative reviews.
I have the box set to time activation. The Cat genie app keeps resetting the cat genie to manual. I realized this when my cats start to pee on the couch because their box is dirty. This has happened at least 5 times in the last two months. So I started checking the app everyday to make sure it didn’t reset itself to manual clean. I forgot to check Thursday and Friday. Last night there was pee AGAIN on the leather couch. After having the previous CatGenie 120 for 10 years (with one replacement), I was looking forward to a newer updated version of the CatGenie 120.... which is the CatGenie AI I spent $400 on a “smart” CatGenie that has now turned my $2000 couch into a litter box. I am very frustrated.
Having the same connection problem as others... won’t connect to any phone. Hope they are working on a fix as this looks like it’s been an issue for awhile now.
So far I’m pretty happy with the app. It is responsive for what it needs to do. The UX is not perfect but there are some functionality that I know appreciate - I have been a Catgenie owner pre-AI for some time.
Like a previous reviewer, I can connect fine, and got a notification that my cat went, but nothing shows up on the activity screen. This is one of your main selling points and it does NOT work! Please fix!
The app used to work great. Now I have to uninstall and then reinstall to get it to give me any notifications. The app also freezes when it's opened and will not let me click off of the first page that opens to see or adjust the actual cat genie settings.
Looking only at the app, it’s a great start. Love: View the cleaning progress and pause/ start cycles View cleaning solution levels View error codes Questionable: There are bugs with notifications - sometimes I don’t get any. Cleaning progress is often inaccurate or not displaying properly. Activity log needs to be interactive, otherwise it should be a simple list. Maintenance/testing mode is not accessible in the app. Keep up the great work!!!
We love the Genie but it would be nice to have 2 users on a device. The hubby does the maintenance and I order the supplies. This feature seems to be the only downfall. I hope this feature can be added soon.
I agree with other reviews. Huge fail!! The App does not work. It took me a long time to get it to connect. I also changed the user panel to manual operation so I could control my cats exposure to the new CG. I woke up at 5 am and it was running with two freaked out cats watching it. The App did not register it was used or cleaned.
Great idea- really want it to work but will just not connect to either mine or my husbands iPhones- they work perfectly fine with any other Bluetooth devices and our internet just not the new cat genie AI. Please get the bugs fixed- I can’t wait for this to work properly for our 3 kitties!!!!
It’s been over six months and they still have not fixed scheduling. I can’t remove the last scheduled activation. I’m using cat activation mode so I don’t need to schedule and waste the cleaning fluid. This is app developer 101 level stuff.
With the old App I could restart the CatGenie on my phone. With the new update it just sends you to a help page. It’s sometimes necessary to restart it from my phone when I’m at work. Please bring this feature back.
We love the cat genie but the app keeps breaking. It stuck on click to abort cycle and only fix is to unpair the app to the cat genie and do setup again... please fix the bugs
First few days it was great to follow their activities. After that I either can see up to hours ago or sometimes completely blank. The app is very unreliable.
I recently bought a Cat Genie AI. The box itself is fine, but this app has completely stopped updating. I do no have a wifi connectivity issue, it simply just stopped...
The app works better than the liter box. The liter box is absolutely terrible. It’s gets clogged and I have to mess with this thing more than I did whenever I had a regular scoopable cat box. WASTE OF MONEY
I have 2 CatGenies for our 3 cats and we LOVE the machine. No problems except the sensitivity settings need to be tweaked. I wish they would update this to recognize microchips so it can tell which cat is using them. It also freezes up a lot. You can just tell at this point in time (1/2021) it’s a new app and needs work but has potential. Keep working on it, and it can be truly the end of clay litter boxes forever!
I’ve only been able to use the app once for initial setup. So I can’t update the times or even use the app to order replacements. It’s frozen. Close it. Reopen it. Same. Frozen. Useless.
This app is just simply not ready for prime time. No way to have log ins on multiple devices, no apparent way to program cats. Great idea, terrible execution.
I’ve had every generation of this box. Been a long time user of this product for 13 years or so as I’m a cat breeder. They have always been great with customer service. I took my 120 out to re do my floor. I put it back in and forgot the settings. Called and got assistance to do so. I wanted to run the drain setting and that’s what she did with me. 3 days later I called to do the drain cycle again because I got my new (ai unit) second box for the house and wanted to move the old one and with snow here I didn’t want to dump. The tech said I’d have to mail my brain back for a inspection before getting any more help due to it sitting for a long period of time. I stated I don’t have any issues just need the instructions that I got a few days prior. She said because it sat for a while that they needed to check it for a small fee of $35. Keep in mind I have to pack and deliver this and be without the box again. Needless to say, nowhere in the manual does it state that you can’t have it sit. They are pushing more dependencies in order to get help now. I regret my last purchase and now as a breeder who often recommends this product……I’ll no longer be their customer and sales person. I’ll be looking into the litter robot (a better product that doesn’t make you dependent on spending money with them). Keep in mind, I haven’t “hacked” my box. I do annual cleanings. I don’t use their litter but I do use the wash carts. I also googled the info they refused to give me because they want me to pay. No more for me. I’m making the switch. 👋🏼✌🏼Shena
I’ve had a CatGenie for almost a decade (multiple units), and I’ve been asking for smartphone compatibility and an app for many years. I’m happy to see that the manufacturer is finally taking baby steps towards that. That said: ••••••Connectivity•••••• The app is fairly easy to set up, but feels somewhat basic. For one, you can only connect a single mobile user to it (one phone number only; not sure about the number of devices per number) - that is disappointing. ••••••Added Features•••••• The CatGenie AI and this app basically digitalize the original unit’s control pad and make it WiFi accessible. Beyond that, it doesn’t offer much. A lot of it seems a bit gimmicky, such as adding my cats’ profiles, incl. their birthdays, breed, or pictures. The app is NOT able to distinguish between different cats, although it alludes that it can. Its activity log is really just a page of time stamps. Although useful, it doesn’t do anything with the data - no analysis or even a practical display of it.*** I do appreciate the progress bar for the cleaning cycle, as well as the count on how many cycles the cartridge has left. However, the progress bar is in ‘% completed,’ where a countdown timer with ‘minutes remaining’ would be more sensible and more transparent (FYI: a full cycle lasts 40 minutes). ••••••In Conclusion•••••• This has never been a product that’s made enormous advances at a time, and the CatGenie as a product overall has got its flaws for sure. Nevertheless, it does beat scooping cat litter by a country mile. Be patient, it’ll get better - it always does (hardware & software both). The app does add value to the CatGenie - I’d give the app 3 stars, 4 stars for the product overall. ***a recent update has added a graph display under the ‘activity’ tab. It used to be just time stamp log entries. Looks better now, provides a better display of usage stats (updated 05/29/20)
Designed for use with CatGenie connected devices, app allows users to manage and program CatGenie AI devices, register cats and monitor their bathroom habits. CatGenie Pairing: When logging in for the first, the CatGenie wizard will be open and the app will scan for all CatGenie devices using BLE. When one or more devices are found, the user will be able to connect to CatGenie and to configure the CatGenie WIFI settings (SSID + password). Cats Registration: The user will be able to register cats in the application. Pressing (+) will open wizard for adding cats. The user will be able to add cat's name, hair type, birthday and connect other devices. (The cats screen displays list of registered cats with their names, picture and last visit time. When pressing on cat's card, the user will be able to see the cat diary. The diary contains 2 modes: 1 - CatGenie visit statistics chart for one week and last visits timeline - up to 100 visits. CatGenie operations and configuration - The devices list will display a list of CatGenie devices. When pressing on CatGenie card, it is possible to start/pause cleaning process, set CatGenie friendly name and change CatGenie configuration (cleaning mode, value, child lock). Cat News page will display cat related articles. Notifications: 1. When cat visited CatGenie, "Cat Visit" notification will be received. 2. CatGenie notification: If there is an issue with your CatGenie a notification will be sent telling you what is happening. General Settings: Pressing on (i) button on header, will open General Settings page, where the user will be able to view its profile settings, open troubleshooting url, send a feedback, and configure notification alerts.
