Update: Sorry I was doing something wrong. It’s working like it should. I just upgraded to iOS 16.2 and now this piano controller is not working? I know the P-115 is a little older but there’s still a lot of people playing them. At least I am… Please update! Thank you.
Could be better, but I don’t feel it deserves to be down at 2.4 stars as it is now. Could use some UI improvements and there are features I feel would be easy to add, but the app does what it is supposed to do, and I haven’t had any glitches.
I tested this app last night on a Yamaha P115 and it works fine. App provides easier access to some features (like precise metronome control, reverb) than looking up the key combination in manual. You do need the correct cable (lightning to USB **Camera** adapter), not the generic USB cable for charging.
The app works great with my P-155, glitches happen often, but I can get by with that. It would get more stars from me if I could record and save the files to my phone. Seems like it’d be a simple app feature.
Leave it to Yamaha to revolutionize interfacing with your keyboard! For $29 bucks, (the price of the Apple Lightning to USB adapter) and a standard USB cable, I was able to access features on my P115 I didn’t even know existed before! Elegant and intuitive app! Can’t believe it works for not only the P115, but the NP12 & 32 as well as the Arius YDP-143 & 163 line of digital pianos! Bravo Yamaha G
Could be as simple as enabling iTunes file transfer to grab the midi files. But it doesn’t. As other reviews have said it can only replay back onto the piano. A huge disappointment.
I connect my YDP-163 and it works for about a minute. Then I get an error in the screen that says “There was a unexpected error. ID = 0”. I have to shut everything down, unplug my UD-BT01 connector and try again. After a minute, same thing. Junk.
App hasn’t been updated for awhile. Installed the app and then tried to find my Yamaha digital piano on the drop down list. No luck. C’mon, my model has been out for nearly three-and-a-half years already!
Works pretty good once you get past the interface challenge
I'm using an iPad and spent some time at first trying to find an adapter to go from the USB type B on the P-115 to a regular USB so the Apple cable with the lightning end would work. You can't get them anywhere locally. Bought a twopack from Amazon for six bucks. Didn't work. One of the geeks at the Apple store said that the adapter they use to input pix to the iPad purportedly works for audio. Forty bucks. That lights it up. Cool, but not free. The program works pretty good once you figure it out. Pretty easy learning curve. There's some improvements I hope will be coming. In split mode I drop the upper voice down an octave when I've got a key bass setup. If you switch the upper voice to another it doesn't remember the octave change. That more or less rules out changing voices mid song. The keyboard does that as well so maybe that's what needs an update. Good start, could be better. App is free but plan on spending some $$ on an adapter. They should put a Bluetooth chip in the keyboard. Not sure why they don't, except for the cost perhaps. Can't be that much, even toasters have them these days.
Yamaha builds great pianos, but they have not the slightest clue about app development. They app is completely useless: - any record midi song can only be replayed on the piano - songs cannot be downloaded to iPhone or shared - horrible user design - very slow to connect to the stage piano - USB connection is unreliable
I bought a Yamaha P-155 keyboard becasue it has this iPad app. I can't find the app in the app store on my iPad. Can't get the app to download on my Mac.
Be careful - not compatible with all Yamaha pianos
I got the app and cables to use with my new P-45 piano. The app and cables are listed under the "apps" tab on the Yamaha web site for the P-45. Unfortunately, it is compatible only with the P-115. So the app is useless to me. Be sure to check your piano for compatibility before you invest in cables and download the app.
