They charge more than wired in cable internet but I can’t even listen to 1 whole song through Alexa because she can’t get a good enough signal. My grandson can’t watch tv through streaming so he’s pretty frustrated with it too. I know we moved out to the country to get some peace and have other things to do besides being tied to electronics but EarthLink is the crappiest internet I’ve ever had to deal with. My mobile hot spot on my phone works better but somethings need WiFi to work. I cannot get websites to load without timing out and this should not count as providing internet service because it so frequently is not available.
If I could give them a 0 or less stars I would’ve chosen that. Worst customer service btw that router cost 80$ you basically buy it and it’s yours and it doesn’t work at all. Lied to my face saying I was eligible for internet at my home which was false. I received the router in 3 days and instructions were pay first months internet and plug in the router and wait for 30 mins WAITED OVER 2 WEEKS !! I called non stop because I could not get internet customer service was not help every time I called they would say just unplug it and plug it back in then they gave up saying we will contact you tomorrow they never did they also said we are sending you a new router never did also sending a person to check it out never did so your own your own basically. I called them to cancel and you won’t believe what they said, I understand your concern we don’t do refunds but for you we are going to take of 25$ off your next month !!!! Be for real are you serious the internet does not even work the router never connected it’s crazy I got so mad and then she had the nerve to say fine we can refund just for the month you paid but the box we can’t refund it policy but we need the box if you don’t give it back we will charge you 200$ on your card excuse me wasn’t the router mine they said 80$ to buy it and now if I don’t return it they charge me 200$ ??! Don’t buy any service with them period. Liars, scammers it’s not fair!!! It is honestly sad because it can happen to anyone. :(
They told me I could get service in my area. Then when I didn’t get service he told me it’s because they don’t have ability to get wifi where I live. They won’t refund me my money even though their manager said she would and I have a refund #. I have been contacting them for over a month trying to get my money back. Told me data was unlimited, then told I have to pay for more GBs. Told it was only 79 first month for activation and set up and then had to pay 56 for activation. Their customer service is almost impossible to get ahold of. I’ve been promised a refund 3 times. Took a month for someone to finally get me a manager who said she would send refund. A week later and I still haven’t received it. They got my email wrong when setting up and my name after spelling both multiple times. I had to wait 3 days to set up because I couldn’t get ahold of anyone to change my email so I could get my password for my log in they send through email. A totally scam. I’m currently disputing it with my bank because they won’t send my refund they promised after a month. This is ridiculous.
we’ve been paying $95 a month for 3 months now for their “unlimited” plan. there’s an allotment of high speed data before they slow you down to a basically unusable speed, but at least this i expected as i’ve seen it before with other companies. but this month i got an email telling me that i’ve gone over the allotted high speed data too many times and they’re discontinuing my service indefinitely, and i have to return my router to them or they’ll charge me $400? excuse me? do not advertise unlimited data if you’ll discontinue my account and threaten to charge me a ton of money for using too much of it. all we’ve been using it for is streaming! absolutely awful company. most people don’t even check their emails and they didn’t warn me about this in the app at all, makes me wonder how many people they’ve taken $400 from for basically no reason, for simply using their wifi? really sketchy
I’m reading the other reviews, & I agree, this company is a rip off! They told me no unlimited plans, yet I’m reading reviews where people are saying they have the unlimited plan! How can that be? Also y don’t they rollover any left over data? As much as the plans cost, they should be rolling over every month any left over data! My biggest pet peeve with them is every month, at the end of my data cycle, they start taking from my new cycle!! Even though it’s before midnight, even though I have plenty of data left, and yet they take my data the night before the new cycle starts every month. I have to call them and complain and ask them to give me back at least 10 or 20 gigs to replace what they took early. It’s ridiculous. They are a rip off.
Worst Internet I’ve Ever Had + Atrocious Customer Service
Our plan and costs: We paid for the unlimited internet plan. You have to pay them $80 to get the wireless device then it’s about $99 a month on top of that. You get 300gb of ‘high speed’ internet then it goes to ‘moderate.’ Internet Unusability: The ‘high speed’ internet was the slowest internet I’ve ever used. The WiFi would crash a few times a day, forcing us to have to reset the device. We ran out of the ‘high speed’ internet and it switched to moderate. Moderate didn’t even allow us to stream tv, play video games, or get on Zoom calls. It would turn off for hours at a time, whether we rebooted it or not. Customer Service: We called a few times to ask for help and they said all they can do is tell us to unplug it and plug it back in. They don’t have technical staff so they don’t send anyone to fix it. They also said they are essentially in the ‘testing phase’ so there is no way for them to make it better. Refused to give a refund even though their device was unusable after 10 days of use. $180 down the drain!
We had this service for almost two years. They are pricey, but we didn’t have a choice because we live in a rural area. I was having issues with my connection so I called customer service. I spoke with someone and my issue wasn’t resolved that day. I called again the next day and was told they were going to connect me with a tower that’s closer to us. My husband was venting to the rep because he felt like we should already be on the tower that’s closer to us. While my husband was talking to the rep the rep actually started whistling. This was so disrespectful. My husband told him to cancel out internet. The rep then started offering discounts but the damaged had been done. This is our money and we felt so disrespected
They do not offer unlimited Internet for my area and when I run out it is useless. I have to pay $6.96 per 5 GB to get through the rest of the month! Which can often double the bill! It is supposed to be high speed Internet, but it is slow. Even when it works it often disconnects or videos have to buffer. Can’t download video games without using all of my data, so it is pretty much useless for video games or streaming. Even though they said it would be great for it. I will be switching Internet providers. Nearly daily connection issues where I have to reset the router. Barely good enough when it works, and worthless, the rest of the time. 100% do not recommend!
Worst internet, worst app, even worse customer service
DO NOT USE EARTHLINK, whatever you do, use literally any other provider, I assure you, it will be better. EarthLink charges more than any other provider with data, their connectivity is regularly interrupted, the app is the least functional app I have ever tried to use, and their customer service is not only unhelpful but they are rude and the least knowledgeable, least capable, and least empowered customer service agents I have ever had the displeasure of speaking with. Do yourself a huge favor and find a different provider, EarthLink should cease to exist for their inability to provide even 1990s level dial up connectivity at best. I would be better off with AOL at this point.
The cost is way too high. I have not had a connection longer than 1/2 hr. Most days, I don’t have internet at all. My business relies on internet and I have not been able to work since installing this service. I had to cancel this service after a couple weeks. The hold time to speak with a technician is often over 30 minutes or longer if my call doesn’t drop because of bad connection.
Me and my mom wanna something cheaper than spending $200 each month of wifi so we find these people and we called them and when my mom called they didn’t say nothing about having to pay about anything and it will be $98 dollars to pay each month, my mom is old fashioned so she don’t know how to work live tv or anything is just cable boxes and at this point she didn’t care but when she told me how much it will be paid for each month that gave me a red flag feeling. Soon as we got the box my mom called them and they said to get the wifi box activated it’s will be $50. THEY DIDN’T SAY NOTHING ABOUT THAT BEGIN ACTIVATED!!!! never again buying or paying anything to these folks.
This internet company is probably the worst one you can purchase. When calling to set up they said 100 gigs should be more than enough for our devices. The 100 gigs were gone in 4 days…. Not even a week later. We were highly disappointed to say the least. My boyfriend decided to purchase another 100 gigs now making our plan 200 gigs a month, thats was gone in 5 days…. Mind you we only had 1-2 phones connected. My man also has a play station but only played once in those 5 days. We gave them over $200 and didn’t even get 2 weeks of WiFi. Don’t Bother!
I’ve had EarthLink for one month! It only works for a few hours in the morning. It just circles most of the time. It never works on our laptops, I have 3 teenagers in school and I am getting my doctorate and need reliable internet. My kids can’t play their games and forget watching a show. I got it because it was cheaper than xfinity and in a rural area there are not many choices for internet. Sadly I will be groveling back to xfinity because this was the greatest misuse of 125 and 80 for the equipment so I am out over $200 and I used my att hotspot most of the month! Crazy don’t buy this internet!
I never write reviews but.. I do not recommend this service unless you are someone who is barely home or hardly need to use internet. Goes in and out a lot and sales rep gave wrong info. I was informed there’s no data cap internet only slows down. Nope* data cap on every plan and internet completely turns off afterwards and I’m buying more data every day just to do things that require WiFi and even then it barely works. Currently installing a new service that’s 60 month no data caps which would run me 160 with EarthLink which internet turns off after data used. Definitely a bad experience
Most scam of an internet ever. Can’t believe this company is serious with highest internet being 300gb. LOL. That’s playing your Xbox on two days off pretty much if you download anything you’re screwed. Not to mention they’re terrible to talk to over the phone. Worst internet I’ve had in my life. Switching to Comcast pretty soon. Scam of an internet company and legit joke. Hotspot is better than this 1990 internet. I swear it’s funny because every other company cost less and provides unlimited internet and download. What laughing stock of a internet provider if you call that internet.
Making because I accidentally hung up my call, and was unable to complete the survey. The employees I worked with through my usage of earthlink were helpful and very friendly. The process of ending my service was quick and simple. Dennis helped me out and was a pleasure to work with. Apologies to Dennis for not doing the survey I hope this works as close second.
I have the maximum data of 300, watch my tv about 3hours in the morning before work, then 2hours after work, I unplug it every time, recommended by you, my phone is not connected to it lhave unlimited data on it so I use it, no computer is connected! I pay 159 a month then add two more data of 50 @ 59$ making it about 300$ a month and it still runs out before the month ends. Frontier flags are everywhere in my yard. I can’t wait for it to come through to my house. I will be canceling as soon as it does!
The internet is often down/not working. It would be beneficial to be able check the device status via the app to know when my smart home is not connected. There aren’t many features so not a lot to go wrong otherwise. I like the easy check for data usage and the frequency of which that info updates.
NEVER GET THIS SERVICE EVER Horrible internet that lags out about once every 1.5 hour if not more and it’s incredibly slow, my hotspot is actually faster. Terrible customer service where they hung up on me, try to sell random home security service, and you can barely hear the help since it’s full of background noise. They also charge you monthly for the router which makes the minimum plan 75$, if you are in a pinch should probably use your hotspot and it would cheaper, faster, and less of a hassle.
I have been on the phone with them 6 times to help me fix the connection in my house. Restarting, unplugging, pushing reset buttons, they tell me the same thing every time then say they’re escalating it and someone will call me the next day. Never heard from anyone. I can’t access the app, it’s frozen on the grey screen. I started a chat the other day and when I told them I was thinking of canceling they stopped talking to me. What a joke. I wouldn’t even give it 1 star
Router showed up didn’t work, messed around with it for over a day and did everything the support told me to do but none of it worked and they just kept telling me to move it to different spots of the house, when I finally went to cancel it took over a hour or so to cancel and they kept putting me on hold then telling me to unplug and try again, customer service is obviously contracted out of country and isn’t good.
We live in a rural area with only one land based ISP. The sad state of our criminal Justice system has emboldened tweakers to constantly pillage copper wire from the local land line company rendering us repeatedly without internet for days at a time. Yes, EarthLink costs more, but the service and signal reception is exceptional. No regrets.
Earthlink has worked perfect for me. I live on an island up north from Seattle and we have trouble with devices on the island all the time getting them properly but EarthLink been perfect. Have not single problem with it.
Why do they use data? They just want money. Nice people though but im not wasting my money just to get more data. Other wifi providers give you unlimited data but this, this is one that just wants money. Money hungry. Once your out of data your screwed if you can get more. Or dont have the money in the proper budget. Its a scam. It even says i use up data when im not on wifi at all. This provider is a scam and its trash.
Wish I would’ve read reviews before getting this Wi-Fi. It’s super expensive and good luck getting ahold of anyone in customer service. There’s absolutely no way we went through 150gb in 4 days with only 3 cell phones using it and no streaming. And apparently you can only access their app using their Wi-Fi service, not using your phone’s data, so I’ve been on hold for over 20 minutes now trying to cancel my service.
After my first month of billing where I was shown we had run out of Data, only to be billed and showing about 78GB used instead of the max we were told is a lie to get you to buy more GB during your month, The app also never works, I can never get it open when I’m actually home, or anywhere else for that matter, it just sits on the front screen and doesn’t do anything.
Worst internet ever do not pay for this. I had to get due to nobody covering in my block, built a new house on this block. Payed $80 a month for 100gb of data. In 9 days, with me being out of town for 4 of them, I somehow used 27gbs of data. A complete scam. The worst part is the internet cutting out in the middle of the day during blue clear skies, then your modem proceeding to tell you it has full bars. Don’t get this, it’s a rip off.
Earth link does a good job of handling cameras and tv’s - a little pricy but I live miles from any other source and in the woods with armed guards and dogs to keep the thugs out / it does a good job -no complaints- have not used the video capture so there is no record of what happens to intruders !!!! But have a backhoe and plenty land
They seem to seriously misunderstand what 24 seven means it does not mean that I wait 48 hours for a response to having no Internet yet being charged. Paid already, got the equipment later than promised, it does not work and I get NO response when I call, text ask for support thru the app. Literally no response to over 30 attempts. I’m calling my credit card company and reporting the transaction as fraud.
My wireless device says offline. I called and was on hold 45 minutes and then got disconnected. Called back to cancel my service and again on hold 45 minutes as of now. If this is how you start off with new service I can not imagine if you have been a long time customer. Online chat then says they are offline and closed until 9 am ET.
WiFi works great at my home I think most of you try to go with the cheap plan and if you can’t pay then don’t play it 🤦🏽♂️anyways thanks EarthLink the unlimited is awesome and I don’t lag with stream and game
Seriously, do NOT pay them for their services. Crap internet, terrible customer service that doesn’t go below the surface of “have you tried unplugging the modem and plugging it back in?” Will be calling my credit card company disputing the charges, claiming they did not provide the service they advertised. I don’t know how this garbage company stays afloat.
Pay way too much for way too little “high speed internet” downloading 1 video games used half of my monthly allotment of high speed internet and half the time the internet isn’t working. Which is why I’m wasting my time at this very moment writing this stupid review for this stupid internet provider
This internet is basically like if your house had really bad phone service. Your better off finding another option because this is definitely the worst option available.
Way overpriced for how slow and unreliable the service is, along with forcing you to call during their hours if you want to cancel and charging you money for not mailing their router back after charging a fee for getting it. Worst service I’ve dealt with
They are robbing folks they sold me internet and told me I could work from home and the data hasn’t lasted 10 days and I’m out of data and trying get someone on the phone is impossible and they won’t give the money back they are crooks

We’re honestly paying for NOTHING…the signal drops during any kind of streaming.! I’m not able to access my account at all but I’m still being asked to pay a bill.! Customer service is just as poor!!!!

Biggest headache, I tried because I live in a rural area and I was told EarthLink internet would work. But it never connected to the internet one time. Return process is like pulling teeth.
