While it does give you the current toll prices, it's not easy to get to them especially while commuting. The experience needs to be simplified. Also, the saved routes does not work. Even if you are able to enter the correct entry/exit points, it won't recall them. With all the money being made on these lanes, you'd think the app would be halfway decent.
This app (and even the actual website to be honest) needs an entirely new redesign. The concept is there but it's an extremely novice amateur format. Being able to see real-time toll prices was really the only reason why I even needed this app which only really works when you use the search by entry/exit point and select it from the drop down menu. However, the option to "save this route" doesn't exist when you do it that way, it only will save it if you put in an address and it decides when and where you enter and exit. It really is useless unless you either fix it, or strip away everything and only use it to generate real-time pricing from exit to exit.
While the capability is compelling, the implementation is truly awful. Trying to figure out where you are getting on and where you are gettin off is a visual endeavor when you don’t have a clue as to what the road names are. This app requires you to use Apple Maps separately to figure out what the names might be so you can select them from a randomly ordered list that only the locals would understand. Given how much money it costs to travel on the express lanes, and given that my tax dollars support the profit they make from the charges, someone should file suit. If this is not software malpractice, I don’t know what is.
A good app would show you which direction the entries and the exits are. It would also allow you to plan a trip showing you where to get on and where to get off starting at points not on the expressway hands. In addition to that it would also allow you to find which direction the lanes were at various different times of the day during the week. This is worse than useless! Removing the app. I would give it less than one star if I could. Don’t waste your time!
The developer spent more time designing the app icon instead of making the app actually work. The start and end points only search for physical addresses so it is worthless because you cannot select actual entry and exit points. If you try to select the entry or exit points using the map it will enter it into the wrong box. It’s no wonder they can’t make a profit without giving people $3,000 tickets for missing tolls.
I guess I can’t really review this properly because is doesn’t even launch “something went wrong, try again”. As someone who pays for the overpriced express lanes ( we’re paying a private company to use a road …) this app should be one of the best in the store. But here we are, regular people getting taken advantage of…
I downloaded this app because google maps does not put you on or navigate you too from the HOV lanes, I just got a motorcycle and have not been in the area long enough to have all the entryway exits from the HOV lanes memorized that why I downloaded an app from HOV services that then does not route me onto the expressway.
This app is useless. The recent update (facelift) is unhelpful. Please rethink this entire app. Use the device location as default and show us options from there. Immediately indicate the current travel direction. If we want to plan a trip for later show us the options for lane travel at that time.
Is the direction the lanes are right now. The app needs a dashboard that tells if the lanes are open and direction. It needs to be accurate and timely or this app is worthless. I don’t want to put in where I’m going to be told it’s closed/open. Just tell me up front.
App is virtually useless. Impossible to save routes. Integration with maps is broken. Seems as though the contractual requirement was to provide an app and website, but appears to be no requirement to ensure that it works. Put some of that toll money towards software development and test.
Tonight I’m trying to figure out where the EZ Pass exit is for my destination, but it says “uh oh! The lanes are not open in this direction”. I know that. I’m traveling tomorrow morning when they ARE open in my direction. Useless.
I don’t like giving apps my location so I type it manually. This app has a spot for you to enter addresses, but as soon as the first character is typed, the search fails and keyboard disappears. 1 Star
There are massive stretches of 95 that have no entrances to the express, only exits from it. If you're driving from Dumfries to Richmond, you're absolutely screwed and this app will NOT inform you of where the entrances are.
Basically they took the app and made it an online portal to google maps. When you click on the "entry" button it takes you to an empty google map. I thought it would at least show an overview of the express lanes, or pinpoint to my location, but... nothing. I finally entered my entry point and it brought up some options. When I entered my exit point (I 66) it produced a list of ridiculous choices, none of which were even close to the exit. It did produce a price, but the price was different to the price on the sign in the road (which we had reached in the time it took me to load this info). I tried to save the trip so as not to endure this rigmarole next time, and got a login error before I was even able to enter my info. I used to rely heavily on the app to make quick route decisions for my trip home, but now it's completely useless. If it were possible to give zero stars, I would.
app worked well until i downloaded the update-- don't update! unable to search prices between toll gantries - it makes you use a google map integrated search and then log into your "express lane account" to see saved trips. when attempting to log in ( which is annoying in itself) app has an error and says login failed before i'm even able to enter anything. additionally it wants you to enter license plate data to track trips?anyway - app is now a huge waste of time-- i just deleted it and will keep it that way until they bring back old version. needs functionality without having to login - i used this app several times per day until now, would give negative stars if possible--huge failure
I live in Woodbridge and work in Tysons so I'm a regular user of the express lanes (takes 20-30 mins off my commute each way). I'm glad they finally came out with an app! Makes it a lot easier to know the toll price ahead of time and I check the cameras before I leave for work now to see what the traffic is looking like on both the regular lanes and express lanes. I have auto replenish on my ezpass but I signed up for an account on the app and added my license plate so I can use missed a toll if i ever forget my ezpass. Great app!
I like the data and information available. The terribly implmented selection process must be fixed. On the iPhone, as you attempt to scroll though the locations for entry and exit to the express lanes, if you stop, even for a fraction of a second, or take you finger off the screen, the process instantly selects the item you are on. Consequently, it takes numerous restrarts and retries to get the selection you actually want. This is frustrating and time consuming. This makes the app much less useful and helpful than it could be with the information it can provide.
I guess none of the tolls collected go towards the app budget. If they did this would probably be one heck of an app. As it, this app needs work. Selecting a location is almost impossible. As soon as you lift your finger to continue scrolling it thinks you've made a selection. Please fix this! It also does a terrible job of giving exit options. I find this especially the case when trying to pick I95 exits. The app is never really sure which way the lanes are traveling. Or it gives no I95 options at all! An option for saved routes or favorite routes would be great. It certainly would make it easier to use while on the move. Otherwise it's a helpful app to know just how outrageous the tolls will be when you have to travel.
Great app for planning my commute to and from work! I signed up for text alerts so I know what the toll price will be before I hit the road. And the camera feeds are really useful for seeing what the traffic is like on 495 and 95.
Be patient during first use. Good first iteration of app.
Be patient. I'm not sure if the app has difficulty loading at the first use, but as I attempted to use it, only certain entry/exit points showed up. Eventually (10 minutes) all the relevant locations were populated in both entry and exit windows. It has been noted already that if you remove your finger from the entry/exit selection area you will immediately use that selection for the calculation. Annoying, but not a killer. I didn't check all the cameras, but the ones I checked worked well.
When I registered it, it offered me to sign up for an ezpass. However, I already have 2 and would love to sync them to the account so I can check things! But the pricing is helpful, wish I didn't have to scroll through every exit. Thanks!
I love this App, however instead of a scroll to the gates to build your travel route. Will you please change it to where you just touch the gate on the map. So when you touch your first gate it becomes your start point, then the 2nd touch is the gate you want to exit at. Trying to scroll is infuriating.
Clumsy interface that honestly does not offer much more than what is currently available on other platforms. Although the lane reversal times might be helpful, sometimes they are ridiculously late in switching. I usually check via webcams, which you can get on other platforms that have more to offer.
Glad the app allows users to view the estimated trip time. Think this will really help folks decide if the want to take the Express Lanes or remain on I-95 or I-495.
- GPS : My nearest entrance - Navigation: My way home/work/other - Integration of Navigation with entrances and exits to plot the cost without going through my choices
Fix the bugs. When trying to select entry or exit, if you lift your finger it auto selects where you left off. If this by design you need to have someone who knows UI design work on it. It is impossible to scroll and select without lifting your finger.
