I think the challenge that I have is that things are to well sorted under different tabs which actually makes things hard to find. It is as if the categories are based on the perspective of the creator and not the end user. Some programs which should available for subscribers are not present and I have to go online to view. It would also be nice if I could use the app on the firestick, smartv, or Xbox.
I’m not sure exactly what part of GPB I’m responding to here-so sorry. The app? The programming? For several years I’ve had trouble finding what is on and when but that is with the app or without it. I’m a contributor and get the monthly mag but things change. I think it’s the specificity with which I canNOT search GPB. NPR has also changed its app navigation as well as some features I’ve come to rely on. Now, I find the NPR app just plain hard to use compared with 2-3 years ago. The “live” NPR button is gone! So I’m driving along, listening to NPR in my car, drive into the garage and want to continue hearing the program. Until recently I would immediately pick up my iPhone NPR app hit “live” and continue listening. Now there is a disconnect as I sit in my garage trying to find the program I’ve been listening to in my car. Rarely to I find the program. Seems like the Savannah GPB/NPR station has just vanished? I appreciate you asking. Listening to NPR is a daily source of frustration I’ve not experienced until maybe six months ago.
The one thing I want to use this for is listening to the local headlines each morning. That’s difficult to do even when the app is supposedly working as it should, taking me to the GPB website and having me press the Play button—not the big, “press me” Play button at the bottom of the screen on the app, but the website’s Play button that I find once I’ve scrolled down a bit. Fine, I’ll take another sip of coffee and force my morning brain to recall and fumble through that procedure. But this latest update (I believe?) has caused even that hidden-website Play button to be unresponsive! How to listen to the local headlines? Delete this app and just Google them each day—it’s easier.
There are randomly occurring PSAs that interrupt programs. Also, more than once, there is radio silence that lasts for minutes to hours. Downloading the app anew does not remedy this sudden silence. Also, when transitioning from a home network to mobile roaming, the app has to be reopened. 12/6. My prior comment remains relevant. The “updates “ to this app have not remedied these issues. If anything, the issue of a frozen transmission when transitioning from home wi-go to mobile is worse. The only fix is to delete the app and reload it. I access four other public radio apps, none of which have these issues.
Having the GPB app makes it so easy for me to listen to GPB anywhere I am I connect to my Bluetooth speaker in other rooms in the house. I can use earbuds out in the yard. It’s nice to be able to listen to whatever is currently streaming or she’s any other category I want. There’s so much content that sometimes I’m a little overwhelmed in trying to find what I want but it’s nice to have all that content!
I travel a lot for work and love having GPB News at my fingertips. Particularly like Two Way Street and On Second Thought. Oh, and being able to listen to my morning and afternoon news anchors no matter where I am in the country.
This app keeps me connected to the BEST radio station, in America. This station caters to providing us with information, in regard to what’s going on in our world, so that we may have a greater understanding, and be able to form more substantial interpretations of what’s going on!!! No bias!!!
I don’t understand this app and I don’t like it. The “live” show in this app is different from the GPB NPR programs on my radio. I used to be able to browse the old app for different GPB NPR affiliated programs and pick the one I wanted but I can’t see a similar function here - so if I want to listen to my local station I have to open the old app which y’all have crippled. Pretty unhappy with the change.
I have been using this app for years to stream GPB. The recent update starts with a hook or bump about GPB. Fine. Then the bump will spontaneously play. Sometimes every 30 seconds to a minute. Restart, and it will jump in every 5 minutes or so. Restart, and it will interrupt every 2 minutes. It is making the app almost worthless because of the frustration.
I use this app daily, and love it when it’s not acting up. Lately, it sometimes gets stuck in a buffering loop. Also, now that it starts with a sponsor message, that interrupts the programming if I drop from my WiFi at the far end of the house.
I listen to radio a lot, using an fm radio, Alexa device and my iPhone. On iPhone I use the GPB and NPR apps. The GPB ap seems to need to refresh itself fairly often and randomly interrupts programs with repeats of its station identification
I’ve used this app for years to listen to NPR. When it works it’s great but there are periods ranging from minutes to days where it won’t work at all. It’s terribly frustrating and I would like to see more consistency.
Glad it exists but Horrible problem with app shutting down
I tried to listen to an hour long show and it quit (shut down app entirely and required me to find my place each time) probably 8 times. VERY frustrating.
The NEW app is definitely a downgrade. They try to push everyone to audio and video. What happened to simply reading articles? No longer regularly use this app…..Disappointing to say the least
GPB cancelled its popular Political Rewind show under pressure from CancelCulture GOP operatives. The app is incredibly buggy and makes it hard to listen. 2 stars
The App works well. When information is being repressed and altered by the powers that be we need NPR to keep us in the know. I start every morning with Morning Edition to hear intelligent voices that give me the ammunition needed to fight the rest of the misinformation that comes all day long. I appreciate and donate to the services provided to stay sane in a CRAZY world!
Live feed is the feature I was looking for. Continue from your car to wherever you need to go. Everything else works well as far as I have seen. Thanks for this
Is there anything better than well informed news without those pesky ads? I think not. Thank you GPB for quality content and a fantastic platform on which we can view & listen to it.
They have free, full episodes of many of PBS's television programs, you can listen to your and other local NPR stations, and it's a great source for reliable state news coverage: politics, sports, arts, entertainment etc.. The app is very easy to navigate and use.
Love the app - always works great! I mostly use it to listen to NPR throughout the day, but I like that I can access countless written articles and also other PBS & GPB programs. The only constructive criticism is that the UI needs to be refreshed a bit.
I love the app. But it's got some annoying glitches. It skips over itself often, repeating segments and missing a few seconds at a time. It also starts by itself from time to time. Not cool in a meeting with my boss. Otherwise, it's great. Please update to fix those bugs.
