My wife and I had been doing both business and personal banking with national corporate banks. We experienced several nightmares the last straw was when we went to take my deceased wife off of the account with death certificate in hand. They told us they couldn’t do that without her permission. Come on folks she is in the cemetery. They said they would trick the computers and make it happen. Results of that was several nightmares. When we had more than we could stand I went to closed out all of our accounts. The bank executive ask me why I was moving my accounts to Happy State Bank? I simply said as I walked out the door BE CAUSE I WANT TO BE HAPPY! That is exactly where we are years later today with HSB. We are still HAPPY!!!
I love the Happy State Bank app. It is so easy to navigate and understand. Even an illiterate tech person like me can quickly and easily perform all online tasks. The app not only saves time, but allows me to never leave home while taking care of my every day banking needs. However, I must add that all of the Happy State Bank representatives I have dealt with over the phone or in person have been nothing but kind, courteous and helpful. This is my “hometown” bank!
Ever since the name change, banking here has been highly annoying. I realize this is a review for the app but the app is run by the bank, so: You can’t link your card ANYWHERE because the account is neither Happy State Bank nor is it Centennial Bank. Your account is trapped in limbo. The balance takes DAYS to reflect in the account so it is difficult to know how much money is actually left in checking. And of course several days each week the app is just down. Right after the acquisition, everyone’s usernames were just randomly changed and so instead of sending out a notice to everyone you had to physically go to the bank to talk to someone to get any information. I switched to Happy State because I heard they were the best banking in the Texas panhandle but I am seriously regretting this. They clearly aren’t listening to their customers as I constantly see updates and posts on various social media sites about how unbelievably trash this bank has become. Don’t even get me started on their insanely rude and entitled workers inside the bank who act like you are bothering them for coming inside like look sis, if your app worked I wouldn’t have to be here. The drive-thru staff is at least nice so there’s one good thing I can say.
We moved to Happy bank and it had been great! Zelle worked. Personal we’re friendly. Now - 78th person on hold to talk to Happy bank/centennial-nightmare. Zelle is broken. Oh you have multiple payments waiting but you can’t accept them because that part of the app isn’t functioning. So money that should be in my account isn’t. I pay for something ( over 700)and it is charged to my account, then a hold is put on my account for the same amount then another charge is added to my account as pending. Meaning for a 700 charge 2100 was out of my account for over a week. Can I reach someone? Sure if you can be on hold first for at least an hour or more minimum amount of customers ahead of me 64 when call to Happy was transferred to centennial nightmare. Used to recommend this bank to everyone. Now to no one alive!
Happy State as been the best bank I have used in my life. They don’t have a bunch of unreasonable fees and still have free checking. They are prompt with deposits and have great customer service if I ever need it. They are also very friendly and respectful when I go into the branch for business (especially the branch in Amarillo on 5100 S Coulter Street). Thank you for taking care of my father and I throughout the years!
Always having to delete and reinstall because something isn’t working. First the purchase alerts then the face recognition. Now that add or whatever it is pops up and ask you to skip or later. I’ve selected both in hopes one of the other would make it go away but no such luck. Every single time I log on there it is again.
I have been with Happy State Bank since they built one in Lubbock, I have recently started traveling and can find a bank to get cash almost anywhere very easily and convenient, also love being able to deposit checks with a quick picture, this has been the best bank that I have ever banked with!! Very HAPPY customer!!
I was able to transition to the new app easily and it seems to be working great so far. The only thing I have noticed is that it no longer has an option for transaction notifications or the ability to turn off a card if missing. Not a reason to kick the bank to the curb but would be a nice feature to add back in a later update!
The mobile depositing of a check—my first experience—was made very enjoyable by the personnel of Happy State Bank that hand lead me through the process!! I’m appreciative to have personalized care attending to the issues and problems that are sometimes encountered with a technologically challenged middle-aged user. Happy State Bank made me a HAPPY bank customer! 😊
I have been with Happy State Bank for several years. They are always very welcoming and easy to deal with. With the expanding branches it has made it easier to do business with them since I live in New Mexico now and didn’t want to change banks.
My boyfriend and I had it set up where I could send him my rent money with him having happy state bank and he could put money in my bank and Since you changed everything We can no longer do this. We will be leaving at the end of September. I know I’m no body but I need a bank that can do this.
I swear this app doesn’t work past the stroke of midnight. It seems that every time I get that worrisome feeling I want to check my bank account before bed-this doesn’t let me. It will either say error, despite that I’m putting in my correct account info and pin. Or sometimes it will say something about data that can’t be retrieved. So annoying.
Often can’t log in, will fail randomly with correct password entered and make me verify with long process. Trouble getting family set up in spite of numerous calls to HSB. Haven’t liked the ap since the software change
I frequently travel and am not home to deposit checks I receive while working on the road. The mobile app that allows me to photograph and deposit checks while away is a valuable tool for me. It’s quick, easy and gives me peace of mind. Thank you Happy State Bank!
Ever since happy was purchased by centennial bank, their online bill pay and app have been awful. I have gone days without access to my accounts and when they have outages they disconnect their local branch phones, then leave you to call their corporate help line where you will be (no joke) “number 75 in the queue.” I spent my whole life with happy bank, but am done dealing with them. This acquisition was nothing but bad for their customers.
I used to never have problems with the app. Now I have frequent issues during log in. It seems to forget that I’ve got finger print ID enabled and forces me to log in manually. Then after I manually log in it asks if I’d like to enable the finger print ID...but I never turned it off in the first place! Ugh!! I’ve contacted customer service (who is always super nice and helpful) and have been told to try uninstalling/reinstalling the app. That works...for a little while. Then I’m back to square one. Come on guys...FIX THE APP ALREADY!!
I just LOVE this bank. I lived in Amarillo for many years and have been gone since 2014. When I transferred with my job, I didn’t close my account. Good thing too because I have not found a bank in or around Gatesville that treats me as good as yall. You are the Best Ever Bank!
App eventually opens and you are able to do transactions; however, it is slow. I have not had this problem in other bank apps. That being said, I love Happy State Bank!
Always having issues with app. I have uninstalled & installed on iPhone I’ve also called help line & no help. They tell me it’s my internet connection which is a lie because every app works on my phone but this one. VERY DISAPPOINTED 👎🏼
When I updated my iPhone I had to set everything up again because bioidentification wouldn’t work! What a hassle. Chase bank app worked perfect just like before.
Hard to navigate. I was trying to look at one of my accounts and see the deposits I have made for several months. I couldn’t do it. It’s an account that I transfer money into to pay my property tax. I wanted to see if I had skipped any months this year. I couldn’t get it to work. I finally gave up. I use banking apps on two different local banks and HSB is not winning the ease of use award. I will say I really love my bank.
Happy State Bank has proven,over and over again what professionalism,courteousness is in banking. I would highly recommend Happy State Bank to anyone. Thank you for your excellent service.
I love the convenience of being able to make online deposits. I move from Canyon, Tx to northeast of Dallas. 400 miles from canyon. So it’s really nice to keep my banking with Happy State Bank.
Great app. Love the mobile deposit feature. I do love banking in person when I need to. Always very warm welcome. Like the small town banks feel, employees always treat you like a friend not a number.
I found out when I checked out that my card had expired and had to pay with another card. It was so embarrassing. It should be embarrassing to Happy State bank that they don’t mail out cards to customers BEFORE they expire. I still have received one, so I will be going to the bank today. I’m so disappointed in this bank.
I have not been impressed ever since the transition / merger with Centennial. Every time I log on to the app, I always get a message saying the server is busy, and to try later. Sometimes it takes three attempts to log on. This never happened until Centennial came along. Other things have happened as well to contribute to this low score.
I’ve tried to be patient with this new buy out, or sell out...but the on line banking seems unorganized and SLOW! You can no longer just put the bill in to be paid on it’s due date so you’re having to really watch the calendar and when it says it will be processed! NOT A FAN AT ALL, may be looking for a new bank!
For making deposits this app is more complicated than my other bank apps. Extra button pushes, slow loading screens, unintuitive. Most banks grab your deposits. 😵
Garbage app. In my 10+ years using Happy I can’t remember when the app was half decent. I can’t even sign in anymore because it thinks I’m trying to enroll and asks for a phone number. After entering my number it says “number already in use.”
This has to be the worst app ever . I have never had a problem with my banking app until this last switch of owners . Now , I am having to delete and re-add the app in anywhere from two to three times a week . It’s gotten so bad if it continues I will switch banks even though I’ve have same account for over 30 yrs
This bank used to be great, but since they sold to centennial I have been locked out of my accounts and can’t get in touch with anyone from customer service. The app gives constant errors when I try to open it, even after following all the steps on the website. What happened to Happy?

I have my Face ID on But I have to log in every other time with my password because it doesn’t save it. Also, every time I log in the “tutorial “ pops up. This has been going on for months. Also, Sometimes the app messes up and doesn’t let me log in at all and I have to delete the app and then the app says it’s updating and I can log back in. Somethings going on because I’ve had the app for years and had zero problems but now there’s a lot
“Happy State Bank” was amazing!!!! Until Centennial bought them out. They’re now the worse bank I’ve EVER USED!!! I’ve never felt further from my own money than I do now. Of course I’ve opened a new account and will be transferring my money after 2 customers make their payments to me. Oh…the app is fine though.
Run into plenty of bugs already with this app. No Face ID option. Pretty scary also that you used the same template to set everyone’s accounts up across the board for everybody. Also in the 2FA question y’all put “where” instead of “were” when asking “what year were you born” Is a 12 yr old building the app for y’all? 😂😂😂
Since I was 18, I opened an account with Happy and they’ve always been great, easy to deal with people! I’ve dealt with the people in West Texas mainly and have always received top notch service !
This used to be a great app. It was easy to check my balance and do mobile deposits. But I haven’t even been able to log in since Happy merged with Centennial. And I can’t get an answer from customer service when I ask why. If this is how Centennial is going to treat customers I’m going to find a new bank.
This app locked me out of my account multiple times deviate the fact that my security questions were right. It’s very annoying & time consuming to have to call customer support all the time. You need to fix that.
To me the apps functionality views of available account balance etc have take a step back from what it was. I did experience a glitch with the last app that wasn’t able to function but the online system overall has taken a step back.
