I was on a cruise up the coast from Portugal-to-France. Noticed a bunch of people parked w/their cell phones around a McDs just as we made out 1st stop in France. Turned on my Wi-Fi & joined them. Hit the WLEX weather app on ‘follow’ & it gave me a accurate forcast! It’s pretty accurate from Somerset (KY) too.😉
The ads are back. I’m done. This is an update to my weather rock review submitted a few days ago (see below). You may only see it here but I’d like to believe someone has realized that the ad driven dissatisfaction of all recent reviews has resulted in change and this again becoming my go to weather app, for now. I was just getting comfortable with a different source for staying weather aware when I decided to check to see if our opinions mattered. I didn’t want to mention in my first review that the ads not only made me dislike the app but I would’ve never sought what was being marketed because of their role with what had become an unusable tool - I was being generous with 2 stars. Being pleased with the “fix”, I couldn’t leave my rating the way it was. I’ll give it another week at least. For now, thank you very much. Earlier review: Can’t touch the screen hardly without it playing the scripps advertisement. VERY ANNOYING! About to hang a rock outside my window and if it’s wet it’s raining, swaying then windy. Please stop.
While it’s troublesome to read the hourly/daily app it becomes dangerous when one cannot even begin to make out what the weather alerts state. Between obnoxious ads popping up while trying to make out words on the special weather statement page and the fact the font is soooo small along with the white sun beams covering each page (or whatever they’re supposed to be) it’s near impossible to figure out what LEX18 is trying to warn the app user about. The rest of the app is great. Fix the font size though or give us an option to enlarge or decrease it.
Seems there’s quite a bit of “nowcasting” when it comes to precipitation. I’ve seen the chance of precipitation percentage change significantly within the same day depending on whether it’s raining or not. Also, Chris Bailey’s forecasts often vary from what’s on the app. Aren’t they supposed to be on the same team? When storms are coming, whether summer or winter, I follow Chris on Twitter and his blog. He seems to be the most reliable and knowledgeable.
I’ve been watching channel 18 news. Weather an Sports for 50 years lived in Lex for 45 years moved to Richmond. 5 yes ago Still watch. Ever Day! Keep up the Great Work. The only place to get informed!!
I’m not sure what precipitated this change, but in the latest release of this app I keep getting video ads every time I go to look at the hourly or daily forecasts. Very intrusive and bothersome! I don’t mind ads in the flow of the page as I expect that. But these video ads need to go … especially since I didn’t click a fixed ad to see it.
I’ve used this app for years as I live in the area where WLEX is located. In its current iteration, it is all but unusable unless you want to constantly turn your phone sideways so you can push the “X” to close out the pop up videos that continue to interrupt the reason you have the app in the first place. I would just as soon pay for a version that’s ad free or use a different app going forward.
I love this weather app, I moved from KY to MO, it’s still my go to weather app. It is so easy to change the city to get weather information if you are traveling.
Radar doesn’t work half time. Just flashes on and off on my iPhone. Deleted app and reinstalled it but no help. Information on site doesn’t seem to be updated to latest forecast very often. I have watched tv forecast many times and app will not be close to being same.
The adds take over the app so you can’t see the weather
Even if you let the ad play when it’s done you don’t get the weather or it only shows on a tiny part of the screen. Sometimes the add will play over and over so you don’t get the weather at all. I am hoping you fix it. This used to be the best weather app. Now it’s the worst. I’m very disappointed.
The meteorologists at WLEX are tops in keeping everyone in our area safe and aware of what to expect every day, every hour. Thanks to ALL the crew at WLEX for keeping us well informed!
Every since this past update there is an ad that comes after opening the app unfortunately for iPhone users to exit out isn’t possible can’t go back can’t finish add and continue you have to close app completely out
Changes in weather are covered on the weather broadcast but not always updated on the app. Big problem for a farmer! They have added cute little lightning bolts to hourly and daily weather-same color as the weather details and make those details hard to read.
For the love of God, please tone down the ads or offer up an in-app purchase to get rid of them. The most annoying is the ad on the hourly forecast that makes it impossible to read the text. The layout is sloppy also, but then again, trying to cram in weather around 58 different advertisements has to be difficult.
As a Kentuckian and a avid motorcycle rider, this app is awesome !!! Thank you WLEX. Just wish it had a longer future radar but having the weather / radar VIDEO is a BIG help.
Wow! E.W. Scripps is ruining WLEX Channel 18. They have to the Best Weather Men and Women in the business but this new app doesn’t make it worth trying to get i formation from. Going back to Channel 27 WKYT for news and weather.
This app was a great little app until for some reason they put ads in every single time you change from the home tab to hourly, weekly or radar. At this point I’m better off using the NWS app or the basic weather app on my iPhone. Ad spam ruined this app for me.
I looked up the weather on my WLEX Weather app for the last couple of days and I wasn't able to see the weather, or turn off the popups, or the LOUD SOUNDS due to the RNC Convention popups every 5 seconds. I deleted the app.
Radar is great but the hourly forecast and daily forecast doesn’t match up sometimes. I play golf a lot and have gotten wrong data from this weather app, especially on the weekends.
When I put my finger on the button, it quickly said “payment processed.” Wha?? I didn’t see a cost or a subscription fee or anything. How do I find out?
It’s so hard to read with the lightning background that was added with the last update. The brightness of the lightning bolts wipes out the white text. It’s also a “busy” background making it distracting. What were they thinking??
We should have the right to listen to the weather for free I Hurd no siren go off on my phone what this country coming 2 and have day did it take to catch the man from South Carolina? What the 🤬
They started playing ads on the app a week ago. They start about 5 seconds after opening app. Can’t even close the ad after it has played. App is now useless, I’ve deleted.
Just noticed there are video ads while using the app. There is an “x” at the top right that you cannot tap to get out. It’s frustrating that I can’t depend on the app for weather now, I hate that.
This app used to be good then they added unstoppable video ads! Find a better app you don’t want to watch a 20 second commercial every time you feel like glancing at the forecast
