I had a lot of nausea during my 1st trimester of pregnancy, and it felt like I was constantly tired. It made it hard for me to keep my usual exercise habits. In my 2nd trimester I felt better but my motivation has taken a hit! I tried in person prenatal yoga for a few weeks, which was great for building some community and a foundation in the differences between regular and prenatal yoga. But in my area in person prenatal yoga classes have been hard to find and unreliable (cancelled often)—my guess is because of the remaining impacts of the pandemic. A friend who’s expecting a baby around the same time as me recommended down dog and let me know about their prenatal offering. I finally tried it and loved it. I slightly prefer in person yoga but the challenges finding reliable classes meant I wasn’t really doing yoga as often as I wanted. With down dog I’m doing high quality yoga way more often, because I can do it whenever I want and customize the length of each session to my time and motivation level. Exercise has been hard for me during pregnancy, so this app has been a life saver!
I started using the prenatal yoga app for the free trial period. I’ve been burning through “free trials” on a ton of apps during my pregnancy tbh. Finally got to this one and I seriously love the app so much! The workouts are highly customizable for your experience, desired intensity, music choice, workout length, etc etc. I haven’t downloaded any particular workouts to repeat but that seems to be an option, I particularly enjoy that there’s a new practice for me each time I log in. It keeps me super engaged and I really look forward to working out. Good ol pandemic time threw a couple curve balls my way and I reached out to them for support... short version is I’m just so grateful for this app and the people behind it. It’s a great product, they clearly care about the people using it, and it’s definitely designed with real peoples use in mind with all of the customization. Download it. You’ll love it! I’m definitely going to keep this past the trial period, it’s well worth it.
Started using this app since my 20th week when i finally felt better and was up for exercising. I felt immediately better, had better range of motions, basically feeling almost myself again physically. I found the boost setting, while theoretically good, somewhat a hit-and-miss. I wish there’s a straightforward setting to just not include certain poses in my practice. Also as far as i cam tell, there isnt any real difference between poses in second and third trimester. There are poses i could do in second trimester but def cant now that im 30 weeks+. Which links back to my previous points about not being able to exclude certain poses. Overall, i still love this app. Thanks for making it really well!
Not as good as regular Down Dog app, but some nice features
I love the regular down dog app and was thrilled to see them rolls out a prenatal version. It has a lot of the same benefits of the regular app, although there are some things that could use improvement in my opinion. There seems to be a lot less variety of moves in this app vs the regular app. Every session has started with the same couple of poses in sequence (child’s pose followed by crescent lunge sequence). There are only 3 levels of intensity, which I’m guessing is a safety thing as they want to be careful about what they advise pregnant women to do, but that means the app taps out at “intermediate” level. Also there are fewer options as far as yoga styles — rather than being able to choose Hatha, Gentle, Vinyasa etc there are just two options (full practice or restorative). I do hope they’ll add a bit more to this app so that it will provides enough variety for me to want to use throughout pregnancy. I think they’re off to a good start!
I just have to say that both this app and the people who created and manage it are forward thinking and simply wonderful. I used to use Downdog on a regular basis for about 7 months and then I found out I was pregnant. I stopped using the app because I needed to be careful about which poses I could do. Suddenly, in the midst of this pandemic, I get a Downdog email that they just created a prenatal app! I was thrilled. Not only had I been sharing the app with others because they were the only yoga service I knew of offering completely free classes for a period of time, but now they had an app for pregnancy as well! Already shared with my pregnant friend :). Thank you guys so much for being progressive, generous, and just “on it” when it comes to your customers/students needs. I really love you guys!
This app is fantastic! You choose your level (anywhere from never took a yoga class to advanced), the type of music you prefer, what trimester you’re in, what body part to focus on, whether you want full yoga or just restorative stretching and how long you want your routine. You even get to choose from several voice options so you don’t end up with someone you don’t find relaxing or enjoyable. It’s a smooth and customizable routine. I never leave reviews but felt this one deserved to be acknowledged for its benefits. I’m still on my free trial but plan to pay for a membership. For $60 per year, their four apps (3 if you’re not pregnant) seems a steal. I also hear they have discounts periodically so watch out for those. I will be!
I can’t believe how happy I was to find that Down Dog Yoga introduced a prenatal program. I LOVE their original Down Dog Yoga app and used it quite often last summer. After becoming pregnant, I was hesitant to continue use because of the uncertainty I had with specific poses or moves. I just completed my first prenatal session in my second trimester and I cannot explain how good it felt to get back into yoga and how ecstatic I am to know I can do it again tomorrow, and the next day, and the next day!😄 I love that they let you choose your trimester and that there are so many various boosts you can choose per session! This is absolutely a perfect yoga app, and definitely the best for prenatal. I would give it 1000 stars if I could. 💙
I can’t emphasize enough how great this app is! It was a life saver during my first pregnancy. There were so many new aches and pains (sciatica, pelvic symphysis, etc) that i had never experienced before or knew how to address. Doing the specialized exercises in this app was extremely helpful and I can’t skip more than one day of doing a practice now without having pains. I also love how much you can customize the time, voice, music, level, focus area, etc. So even if you haven’t done yoga before or haven’t done it in a long time, there are really gentle beginners practices you can set up. Def worth every penny. The only thing I would wish is for there to be a postpartum option.
I’ve been using DownDog since 2015 and it was how I was able to get a personal practice in because my schedule and it was affordable. Since 2015 the app only continues to get better and still affordable. I’ve moved through the ranks and improved my skills. I got pregnant this summer and found they had a prenatal option which would turn into an app of its own! I love the music, the many options that are offered from length, type, focus areas, music, voices, and speed! This has been my saving grace to staying healthy in my own pregnancy! As a yoga instructor it has also helped me learn new prenatal yoga asanas and cues for my own classes!
Wow — what I was looking for and didn’t even know it.
I’m in my second trimester. I have felt some lower back pain, and just assumed I’d have to deal with the pain for the entire pregnancy. A few days ago the pain was more intense… like a pinched nerve called sciatica. It was painful to walk, and I felt hobbled. I remembered this app and pre-natal yoga. Pelvic floor exercises are recommended to relieve and prevent sciatica and pelvic organ prolapse. I was delighted with how good the session exercises felt. I have neglected to do any yoga or proper stretching in months — nausea and a worry that too much time had passed to get back into yoga. I selected beginner, 2nd trimester, detailed explanations, and boost on pelvic floor. The exercises were at a great pace, I felt better afterwards, and I definitely feel like I could build up to a longer session and/or more than one session a day. Very reasonable — thank you to those who created this content and making it available. A wonderful game changer! Highly recommend giving it a try. I hope it helps you as much as it has helped me.
This app has really been helping me (along with their meditation app) during this pregnancy since I can't get to a regular yoga class. I enjoy being able to choose the duration and other specifics that it allows you to choose from. The only feedback that I have, and it's just because of personal preference, I would like some type of transition at the end of savasana to getting to sitting position before the instructor says Namaste. I feel like that usually is the close of the session, and I find that I'm so relaxed in savasana, that when the instructor in this app says namaste, I am not ready. That would be my only critique. Otherwise the app has been amazing!
I absolutely love the regular Down Dog app and have been using it for over a year now. I was curious why they didn’t have any prenatal classes on the regular app and sure enough it’s because they are so thorough there is an entire app dedicated to it. This app has all the same features I love about Down Dog- the ability to customize, great music, clear directions, easy interface and great user experience. Very grateful for this app. I am an educator so I get a discount which I am incredibly grateful for, but this app is absolutely worth the yearly cost. Thank you, Down Dog and Prenatal apps!
I found this app via an ad on Instagram and decided to try it out as I was looking for a at home prenatal yoga app that felt like and actual class and had variations. It had a 7 day trial period, but I decided to buy the yearly subscription after the first few days.. just loved it that much. The app allows me to select before each session the time , areas of focus, level of practice , pace, voiceover etc.. It also has a calendar where I can see all my workouts and set weekly goals for practices completed. All in all an excellent app for prenatal yoga, and I would recommend it to anyone looking :)
This past year has definitely been no picnic what with the pandemic, schools closing and being pregnant. I could feel the stress of being a teacher, a working mother and my pregnancy weighing heavily on not only my physical self but my mentality as well. When Down Dog made their app available free for educators and students I nearly wept. I began using it immediately and have since been less stressed, less tense and at least a little calmer. I am so thankful for the physical and mental relief that this app has brought me and I hope it can do the same for others. The free trial for educators and students ends in July so download it today!
I really wanted these guys to make a prenatal app during my first pregnancy, because I’m a huge fan of their original app. Well, I didn’t get my wish in my first pregnancy but I’m pregnant again and LO AND BEHOLD, a prenatal app 🙌 — I’m thrilled with it. The workout continues to be great and it’s awesome knowing how to modify depending on the trimester. I’m so glad to have a workout that changes every time I launch the app. Also— being able to customize per trimester has been stellar. I also love adjusting the time in shavasana depending on how long I want to meditate. I love this app so much and plan on using it for the next 20 weeks! Thanks, team Down Dog!
The app is so simple and user-friendly. It has so many options with regard to level of experience, whether you’re male or female, what kind of male or female instructor voice you desire, what kind of music you want, etc. It was fun to customize and makes me thoroughly enjoy my practice. You can also customize how much time you have to practice, which has been helpful for me as a busy mom. I am pregnant and chose pre-natal yoga and it is wonderful! I love this app and am so thankful to have such a wonderful and easy way to practice!
I started with the regular downdog yoga and 7-minute workout then transitioned to this app when I got pregnant. Love that I didn’t have to pay for each. Now that I’m in the third trimester this is the only real workout my body will tolerate and doing it makes a Huge! difference in my sleep and comfort level during the day. I love that it is so customizable, that it has progressed with me through my pregnancy and I can add a “boost” to focus on stretching or strengthening my sore back or working on pelvic floor exercises among so many other things. Highly recommend
Perfect. All the variations make this easy to use.
The parent app DownDog is a cool yoga app allowing for tons of variations to make the practice really your own. The prenatal version utilizes the same format and provides excellent options at all stages of pregnancy. It’s completely customizable, which is awesome! Other prenatal yoga apps are good, but I really appreciate that I can really fit my practice to where I am each day (change length to the minute, change the voice and background music, change the length of savasana, and adjust the level of practice). I highly recommend.
As a healthcare provider, pregnant, and working through a pandemic, to say I was Experiencing some stress would have been an understatement. I came across this app, being offered for a trial period for healthcare workers, and could not have been more happy with it!l and the physical and mental benefits it provided! I am now 2 weeks post partum, but this app gave me awesome pregnancy safe exercises and work outs that I was able to complete up until the day I went into labor. Recommend highly- and am now switching over to the regular yoga app, and will be a long term user!!
This is hands down the best prenatal yoga app I’ve tried. I’m seriously considering using it after the baby is born too! I’ve done yoga “casually” for over 10 years now, and there’s nothing out there that has made me feel so connected and in tune with my body and my practice as this app has. Love the customization options as well as the gamification (tracks your progress and goals without being intrusive or inquisitive). Love it!
I’m a former yoga instructor and have been using the regular Down Dog yoga app for some time now. I recently found out that I’m pregnant (after a very long time trying) and have been continuing my practice using the original app with my own modifications and having to skip some poses. I love that I no longer have to do that and will have this app with me through all stages of my pregnancy. Especially since it’s going to be a while until I can leave my house to take classes at a studio. ❤️ Thank you!
Down Dog has been my favorite yoga app throughout the pandemic. I recently found out that I was pregnant, and worried that I’d have to search for a different system. This app is linked to my paid yearly subscription in Down Dog. I so appreciate that they didn’t try to charge me again and I can continue my home yoga practice without a hiccup. Thank you for your great apps and for not trying to make us pregnant folks have to pay more for growing another human. ❤️
Third trimester and suffering from SPD LIFE SAVER!
The app was updated last week and I hadn’t checked it out and I was still doing regular yoga.... welllll... this new update comes with a focus on Pubis Symphysis!!! (Amongst a lot of other ones! Omg I did 10min routine and even though I cried from the pain, it helped sooooo much after Shavasana 👏🏻😍 I was even prescribed Tylenol/Codeine 3 and that was just a little band aid... when I noticed this update included specific exercises for SPD I was floored and feel very very lucky
I love Down Dog but feel the prenatal yoga options are a but lacking. It is often too gentle and only offers two types of practices. I have seen plebty of pregnant women in Bikram classes with modifications made for certain postures (floor ones mostly) and I wish this was an option. I like the regular app because it's possible to do a full workout. The prenatal app is great for gentle stretching but needs to be augmented with a workout regime because it doesn't really get you there otherwise (building strength, getting the heart rate up, pushing mobility)
I’ve been using this app for a little over a year and have really enjoyed the flexibility it offers in its different workouts. Specifically with respect to time, you can choose a workout that lasts anywhere from 5 minutes to an hour in increments of 1 minute! It’s been great for days when I don’t feel like I have time to workout, I can always set aside 5 minutes.
I love this app! I’m currently 18 weeks pregnant and have been using the app for a few weeks now. I practiced yoga before, but I was nervous about what poses I should/shouldn’t do during my pregnancy. This app takes away all of the concerns. I love that every practice is different and so customizable. Sometimes I want a good stretch to ease my lower back and other times I want to work on strength - Prenatal Yoga has it all! I can not recommend it enough.
If you are looking for a prenatal yoga practice app at home. This is perfect! I went through so many different apps but this one has so many options as my body condition. Clear direction to follow and easy to use with all kinds of options. I like the way there are do many variety poses i can use daily. Never be bored with it. I can pick type of music and length depends on my mood. This definitely worth it to use stretch my body everyday.
I loved being able to change to a shirt workout on days I felt low energy, or a longer one to focus on specific pains or stiffness. Also nice as I became more limited in movement not to worry about what moves might be outside my balance or safety, as that was all figured for me. I really wish they’d add a postpartum level so I can continue to fit in practice as my body starts recovering
I love the Down Dog family of apps so I was excited to see this one join the list. However, it’s been 4 years and it still isn’t as good as the original yoga app. There are only three intensities, two styles of yoga, and you still can’t like or exclude specific poses. Surely during pregnancy is exactly when you need to be able to exclude poses that don’t feel good to your body! It would be great if after all this time on the App Store, these changes could be made. Then it would be a 5 star app.
this app is great... i found it because i was looking for prenatal yoga instruction and didn’t want to go to a studio due to COVID. but i wish i’d been using it all along! of course it doesn’t take the place of an in-person class, but it’s awesome that you can customize your practice and do a new practice whenever you want. i like to do short ones (8-15 minutes) after i go on a run, so it’s nice that you don’t always have to do a long class.
I used this app multiple times weekly for my entire pregnancy and saw such a difference in my mindfulness, breathing, and disposition during my natural labor. I had more control and was so much calmer during this labor vs my previous in which I didn’t practice yoga. I will recommend those app to all my pregnant friends, especially those who wish to labor medication free. I feel that my practice with DownDog prenatal yoga made all the difference.
I work on apps and am blown away by this one. What an awesome concept. I’m 30 weeks pregnant and noticed obe got rid of a lot of its prenatal workouts, my subscription ran out on Peloton… a friend recommended this one to me, and the way you can personalize every bit of your yoga session for your trimester, what you want to work on, the music… really awesome. I’ll be using this and recommending it to all my pregnant friends.
This app became my daily yoga practice in my first pregnancy, and I just started using it again in my second. Brings back great memories! It’s not a classic vinyasa with breath-to-movement, but you can always add in your favorite sequences to the holds. Love that you can customize for whatever you need that day - no two practices are the same. A super solid foundation for making your yoga practice pregnancy safe.
34 weeks pregnant and have been using this app for at least 30 min daily for the past two months. I’ve noticed my back pain has lessened significantly and my arms feel stronger while I’ve been preparing the nursery. I love the ability to customize each session depending on how I feel that day, and the tracking calendar helps motivate me to stay consistent.
I was looking for something to help relieve stress during my pregnancy, and prenatal yoga kept coming recommended. This app has everything I was looking for and more. I love the ability to customize my workouts between relaxing or more strenuous, and to focus on areas of concern. The music and vocal choices are also excellent. Thank you for making and supporting this app!
I’m on baby #3 pregnancy now and I’ve used this app each time. I love how customizable it is, how you can choose your music/voice vibe, how much or how little instruction you want, length of time, if you want to focus on a specific area or kind of movement, etc. Such a supportive part of my prenatal and postpartum journey every time. Highly recommend!
I found this app when i got lay-off due to the COVID 19 situation and I think is what help me out during this stress situation, not only for me but for my baby as well. Also, i hace tried several videos and app and none of them get you to feel so relaxed. This app got straight to the point, no much of a person talking too much and has everything that you can need, great options.
My friend recommended this app for prenatal yoga. I love the month long trial period to really explore it. I like you can set how long you want your session to be and really love you can “boost” specific areas of your practice and work on exactly what you need. Once my trial is up, I think I’ll purchase a month subscription and I almost never purchase apps!
I’ve used down dog yoga since 2018 and was so thrilled to have the prenatal option through both pregnancies. The modifications suggested throughout were so helpful, in addition to all of the customization already possible. It helped me stay active and strong and ready to welcome my babies. I tell every pregnant friend about it.
This app has been a life saver during this pandemic! With everything closed, and being stuck in the house with the same people everyday - I count down the hours until I get this 15 minutes alone. I love that you can customize each section and that you can focus on different muscles. It has been perfect for the last month and a half of my pregnancy.
I love this prenatal app for at home practice with appropriate modifications. Working on my practice through my second pregnancy and this is so much more convenient that going to classes in person. Turn the level up if you regularly practice yoga (and are comfortable with pregnancy mods)—I use a higher level in the prenatal app than I typically do in the normal version.
This suite of apps has been wonderful during the pandemic. Each one has so much to offer and is very simply yet nicely done. They’re aesthetically pleasing and user friendly. I will definitely continue my subscription long after everything goes to back to normal (and I never subscribe to apps).
And the fact that it specifies in prenatal is remarkable. This is saving my sanity and physical wellbeing in this pregnancy, it is all catered exactly how I’d like it with so many options to chose from. Each practice is so unique and exquisite. For some reason since covid there has been such a shortage of prenatal yoga classes, so this is perfect. Highly highly recommend.
I am so grateful for this app offering free coverage for a month. The stress during this pregnancy working as an RN with Covid has been really tough. The app is perfect. With music choices, and different voice choices, I was able to do a fifteen minute session and still get in some practice with my two year old screaming like a crazy girl. I appreciate the small bit of self care. Will be using everyday. ♥️🙏
Each of these apps is so amazing. I’ve been using them for over three years now and I’ll never cancel my subscription. Each practice is completely customizable and perfectly crafted to my needs for that day, down to the music choice.. seriously such a beautiful idea and platform.
I have been using Down Dog’s prenatal yoga for over 5 months now, and I am very pleased. The cueing, pacing, and level of challenge is perfect for striking a balance between building strength and establishing a sense of calm and preparedness for labor. I love the features of being able to choose focus areas, pacing, voice, and music! I am excited to explore the other Down Dog apps post baby!
At first when you are setting up your preferences for creating your workout/yoga sequence, it seems like it would be really great, super customizable. Once the workout began though, I realized that they don’t get very good instruction, also the angles that they had the cameras at confused me and I wasn’t able to figure out exactly how she was doing the poses, also a lot of the poses felt like they didn’t do anything/I wasn’t clear on what I was supposed to be feeling/muscle I was supposed to be focusing on I’m going to try to change my preferences and see if a different workout/yoga sequence might be more suitable for me
I️ love all the customization options this app offers! Especially first and third trimesters when energy is really low, the ability to create a short, gentle practice helps me to feel like I’m still doing good for my body but without being more than I️ can handle. I️ love it.
I love this app! I just wish there was a postnatal/postpartum stage we could select. I find that jumping back into regular yoga after birth (once cleared of course) can still be a bit strenuous and discouraging for a recovering momma. I would like to see a stage that helps me slowly transition back into regular poses with my wounds, shifting intestines, and torn abdominals in mind. Lol
I’ve been a big fan of the Down Dog app for a while now and am excited they’ve expanded to include a prenatal app! Prenatal yoga was a huge part of my first pregnancy and now that I have a toddler running around the available classes are tough to get to (not to mention impossible now with quarantine). Thank you, Down Dog, for producing quality products - you never disappoint!
