I have used the Riverside web application for years. I am glad this app is available to help with presenters that don’t have a good webcam. I also appreciate that the phone app is very sleek and simple. A note to some of the people that gave riverside a bad review…be sure to actually check your recording. The live view you see while recording is just a preview. The quality can and will fluctuate, but the recording is happening locally, so even if your live view didn’t look great, the actual recording should be pristine. Or, as pristine as your presenter’s camera and lighting will allow.
I really like the concept, however, I can’t get around this app nor can I really appreciate the effort put into it since it is pretty cut and dry. I do my recordings on the computer but I have run into a few annoying problems since I first signed up, first off, there seems to be some bugs that happen during your meetings like: guests joining as audience members even when you clicked on ‘guest’, guests appearing twice in the meeting (two copies of them appear when watching the recording), audio will desynchronize at random moments in the recording, when reviewing your footage it only plays one screen at a time instead of both (or will play one screen at a time but the screen you are viewing will be paused while the audio from the other screen will play without imagery)…. As far as the app goes I am upset that you cannot review your studios at all like you can do on the website. This would make the app much better, all it appears you can do is host sessions and record but you would have to go to the computer to watch, review and export it.
Watch out for continued billing after you try to cancel
After several months using the service, I tried to cancel the service from within the app — and thought I was successful. Then I got billed for another month. Within 15 minutes of seeing that charge hit my card, I contacted their support team from within the app to explain that I had tried to cancel and did not want to be charged for another month. Here’s the response I got: Thanks so much for reaching out about this. Our refund policy allows for refunds of monthly plans within the first 48 hours of purchase. It looks like it's been over 48 hours since you've purchased your plan. Because of this, we will not be able to provide a refund. I explained that the charge happened less than an hour prior, to which they said; Thanks for getting back. I totally understand that. However, the ones considered for refund are the new subscriptions. We can see from here that you've been with us since last year and to share, that's where we start counting the hours. I have never had any other subscription insist on charging me for an extra month in similar situations — this is a bad way to treat a customer who would have gone back to them had this not happened.
I think this app works great. I use Riverside with all my clients and it's a fantastic tool. I do recognize the app had a very rough start on launch, but it's been great after that. I'll say this: this is considered a more professional remote application. Meaning, in my use case, I couldn't care less about ANY of the features they offer. My company downloads all the files raw, and works with them from there. I do this because this is how we work, and how we want to work. If you are looking for a decent, single file, Zoom is probably the way to go for you. But if you want high quality and want a WAY better end product, this app is and platform is leagues better than Zoom, but ONLY if you are willing to put in the post-production work afterwards. If you are a one-man team, and you are NOT an editor, then you probably shouldn't be using this application/platform.
This platform is one of the worst in the market right now. Their quality is bad, their promises aren’t real and their customer service is as useless as they come. I have 3 - 4 issues open with them, and none of them is fixed or have an estimated time for when they can fix it. Actually, they’ll blame their quality issues on you or your guest. They have ruined two interviews for me so far, without any solution. The only thing they can do is a refund, while you have lost more dollars on the time and lost material. And that goes for the audio and video recording of the podcast. You are way safer to go somewhere else. In fact, zoom that they claim they offer better quality than, has a very good quality compared to them.
I love the recording capabilities of the App. Very easy to record podcasts. However, there are constant problems with consistent uploading of tracks. Sometimes it takes a few minutes other times it takes hours and still other times it takes day or it is necessary to start a chat to resolve the issue. Partial track uploading has been a problem as well. Most of the track is uploaded while a significant part of the same track is not. The editing tool is limited and the option to edit outside the App and upload back into the App should be made possible.
I can get super creative on e-camm. But sometimes is too much creative. I needed a go-to program that is middle of the road and always reliable. Where that NBA announcer that’s says BANG!!!! This program never misses. And I have put it through a lot. Last Minute, mobile, and much more. Never crashed. Should be way more than 8500 reviews. Speak up ya’ll
We’ve been using Riverside for our podcast Invisible Not Broken for probably about I don’t know four months or so. Here’s what I love when it works. It is amazing and the best thing I’ve ever used but when you’re recording an episode with an important guest or all of our guest are important so when you’re recording with a guest and over 10 times it stops working to the point that you have to end your episode it doesn’t matter how good the fancy gadgets are if you can’t record a full episode without it dying forward to 10 times which is what I’ve experience with every single one I’ve done this isn’t a product I can usethe zoom zoom doesn’t die so that’s where we’re at
Enjoyed and appreciated the opportunity immensely. One comment though. Those producing the show had an opportunity to be prepared with questions, statistics and obvious points they wanted to cover. It might be a little more meaningful if the guest had a similar time before the show to make more concise specific points. Hope the difference between what I think is true and what I know through more than just words was made clear. When thoughts about truth are experienced through life, convictions are established on more than theory.
The app gets the job done. I really only use the website but will transition to the app if I’m not stationary. All in all the sound quality is fine. The multitrack recording is the best feature. The new editing studio for the mobile app is absolutely terrible. The UX and UI design are not even remotely intuitive. You only get the option to format your video and trim clips for social media. No audio controls at all. The primary focus of a podcast is the audio so the controls being centered around the video is not only counterintuitive but also counterproductive. Would love to see the editing studio develop into something more practical.
I have been using riverside for about 6 weeks. During the past 4 weeks there have been awful issues. Recordings are off sync and the tech team there has been dictating a script. I have tried all their suggestions and their last email suggested it is a problem with my hardware or the guest. Suggestion is 8 core or higher for both parties. Needless to say, going back to Zoom until I can find a virtual studio. Streamyard works just fine, thought Riverside supposed to be best out there. As a podcaster, highly disappointed bad now Anchor is gone and Riverside is in, terrible mistake. I would not recommend, this is running the quality of my podcast.
I wish there was a way from the app to access the video content. Even when I have the email that says the content is ready to publish and preview. You can’t access through the app. Really frustrating when you need to access the material and content. Frustrating you can only access this using the computer. Especially when you need to access the content via phone to transfer and/or screen record to use on other social media platforms. This review is strictly on the app itself and not Riverside as a whole.
It’s a good app, not the best by far but good. I was editing, a couple cuts from finishing, a 35 minute episode, I was cutting to make shorts and reels. The entire screen went blank, like white. Everything GONE. I was devastated. Refreshed it several times knowing I lost everything and it still didn’t come back. Had to go back to my dashboard and start editing all over again. Legit makes me wanna go with someone else, because that’s NOT something I want to have to worry about after sitting there for an hour, just to have it all disappear. I don’t want apologies or “oh I’m sorry to hear this happened to you”, I want it to NOT Happen.
This platform does not follow through on their promises. Their ads state “Riverside makes it easy to record remote podcasts and video interviews that look and sound like they were recorded in a million-dollar studio” After using this platform to record two podcast episodes, the multitude of technical issues has made them unusable. It’s been a waste of our time and humiliating for us to be experiencing these tech issues with our guests. They promise that recording will not be disrupted at any time, but it’s a nonstop battle of disruption throughout the entire duration of the recording. DO NOT USE THIS PLATFORM
This service seems promising but absolutely nothing works. We have tried both online in multiple browsers and on the app. We have tried uploading multiple approved files types, .mp3, .mp4 etc and none of them will upload or work. We tried the free transcript tool and it does a nice job of creating an accurate file that cannot be downloaded at all. The service states that they offer free transcriptions but don’t allow you to actually download the file. The service seems like it shouldn't even be out really it’s completely broken.
Riverside has been an absolute godsend for us. I decided to make a podcast, and riverside was the option that just worked. The mobile app has been used in multiple occasions in our episodes, and you can barely tell that someone is on a mobile device, and this is comparing it to Blue Yeti Pros.
Cool when it works but the tutorial video in the welcome email has a screen controls that are completely different from the ones on my iPad or iPhone(where there were virtually none). When my guest arrived in the room, everything was working except he couldn’t hear me. I tested with someone else who had no problem hearing me. Still no idea what happened and why it didn’t work with the first guest. Both downloaded the app.
How can I rate this app properly, when it doesn’t cooperate with the iPhone? It says on the app page, iPhone and iPad. I downloaded the app and I’m able to do all of the following: • login • create a studio • Join the Studio • Send guest invite • Send Producer invite • Send audience invite • and Record the conversation. And after all that, it tells me my video has been uploaded, but there’s no video. All this after getting others to add the app so they can join. I would like to purchase a subscription, but there’s no way I’d do that with these bugs in the system.
I’ve been trying to get out of my studio more and more and having guest from come in from remote locations which comes with a number of challenges. Riverside has solved all those problems. Even with not great cell service the end results from iPhone to iPhone I’ve been amazing. KDekn
I love RiverSide! I use it to record my podcasts-one of which I’ve started since March of this year. The other I’ve continued with the help of my brother and have been resuming it’s production since my return home from an LDS mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Thank you for providing a space where ideas can be expressed!
Being my first time on this platform, I found it easy, and I found it delightful, and it brought me joy to be able to come to this platform and record without fumbling, and without any interruption, I lift up my hand and Thanksgiving, and praise to this wonderful platform.
Great app, easy to use, looking forward to the improvement in video quality!
This is a great app and is very easy to use. The ability to edit the video is fantastic and easy to use as well. I gave them 4 stars only because the video will lag and the screen will freeze. I look forward to them fixing it ASAP.
It seems like every episode there is some sort of horrible glitch. My hardware is pretty well top of the line, but either the AI cuts out half the words the generated shorts make no sense volume levels are unadjustable and completely off. It will stop uploading halfway through the conversation without letting you know, and you will do a whole hour and a half and a half absolutely nothing content wise. Horrible
I absolutely love the Riverside app. We occasionally need to record away from our regular setting and this app has definitely come in handy on numerous occasions. The quality is great and it's very easy to use. Highly suggest to anyone that is looking for an app to record outside your usual set-up.
I don’t even want to waste my time writing this. It’s not what you think it is. The amount of glitches will make recording a podcast a nightmare, you’re better off using zoom. The demo is obviously baked to make it seem perfect but the recording quality, mic delays, inability to DL files etc… make this product awful if you are recording podcasts with guests. I would not recommend this product to anyone and would tell you it’s worth spending more money on cameras, mics, and an editor.
We’ve been using video technologies for the past 18 years, and all along the way we SCREAMED for basic features to be able to get high quality video capture. Well, it’s all here now. Push button near perfection. Thanks.
This entire process was made so much easier and so much more of a joy, d/t the direction and joyous, knowledge and support from Paige Erlich. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to share my experience and joy in the work, I do with Teachers On Call. Niels Billund.
While, Riverside is glitchy with Chrome, and doesn’t work at all with Firefox, I cannot get it to function with an iPad. There is no way to switch microphones or headsets, as I have a USB microphone connected with a USB – C hub and headphones connected to that as well. I have tried several different ways to do this and can’t find it to get it to work. Riverside has no controls on the iPad to allow one to select audio, inputs and outputs. I am terribly disappointed!
Probably one of the worst user experiences I’ve had
I used this platform to record a podcast with some fairly “hard to get a hold of” people. Audio was worthless (their software mixed all channels but missed the timing so it just sounds like we are all talking at the same time), tried to get a refund after only using once, got a reply of “our policy doesn’t refund after 14 days” so hopefully others can learn what a short sighted company this is from my terrible experience.
I bought into Riverside’s service as my podcast has rapidly expanded, in the hopes of finding a reliable recording solution for myself and for my guests. What I have come to find out is that I it is anything but reliable and effective for my podcast. It never saves properly, drips out intermittently and is mediocre at best when it does work. I was really hoping it would be an ideal solution but instead it has been a major disappointment.
Give it a practice run or two before Action time to allow yourself to get used to the way it works. It’s really simple it’s just not exactly what you are used to in the best way possible!
As much as your company charges the ad does not work on an iPhone or iPad. Last night I had two interviews and my computer kept having issues so I did the interview on my iPhone. Well the iPhone couldn’t access the $29 membership I purchased so my next interview I tried to use my iPad and it was the same issue. So I am going to use this platform for the next 30’s and I think I will be looking for another podcast.
I had to download the app to join a webinar and it was easy and straightforward! It didn’t ask to create an account first, which I appreciated. It asked at the end, and that made me more friendly towards it!
Ever since I started my podcast Riverside was my choice! It hasn’t let me down , the quality is clean and my guest feel as though they’re on a professional podcast when I send them the link! Love it ❤️❤️❤️
I use Riverside multiple times a week to record video and audio podcasts. I get high quality, local recordings for each guest and makes it easy for co-hosts. Love it
Great platform. However, the connectivity to the iPhone has been giving me issues due to my Mac’s low resolution built in camera. Haven’t found the best way to work around it other than going through the Riverside app on my phone which is not preferable.
I LOVE THIS but you do not have a option use green screen. I use my logo of my speaking events and if I had a sponsor I couldn’t display their ad. Is there anyway to ad a green screen option or do know of any apps I can use your software to display a green screen?
Easy to access and use. This medium is not that intemidating for a computer challenged person with difficulty using fingers or hands in the later years of RRMS.
Dude. They offer up viral clips (clips ai chose as what could be interring to viewers) for east social sharing. The transcribing feature is wonderful and the easy recording makes this a very cool resource for podcasting and video-making in general.
This app still has a lot of bugs to be charging a high premium price. The free version is very stingy, forcing one to upgrade to download what they record on the app. Thus, I upgrade and pay $29 to not even be able to download my creation. When you pay for an app, the benefits need to be there & I’m still waiting to hear back from the company. BOO
I am working with the new podcast app learning how everything works. Thank you for your new product this will change the outcome of how I do podcast in the future.
I found this platform to be incredibly easy, user friendly and highly efficient. I will be doing my podcasts with this platform going forward. Thank You Dr Steve
I spent two hours recording on my phone and the content didn't upload. There's no record button on the app so it's confusing. I thought by entering the studio it was just recording. There should really be some sort of "record" button or something. It's really confusing to use this app - not intuitive AT ALL. What a waste of my time and $24
I’m supposed to be a guest next month through the Riverside app. The website has lots of animations you can’t disable, some which cause vertigo. I thought the app would be safer but you can’t login or make an account without animations in your field of view. Please make you app and website accessible by allowing users to disable animations on you app and website.
This app is fickle to virtually EVERYTHING. Specific browsers, version of browser, storage space, etc etc. It’s Almost completely inoperable if you’re device is not running within crazy tight parameters. This has impacted recordings causing unnecessary frustrations in the operation of my business. I’m beginning to loathe this app and feel PTSD whenever I get invited to participate in an event using it.
I really am amazed at how simple and convenient this app makes it to record podcasts! Because of how simple it is , Iv actually acted on a dream of mine and started my own podcast with a friend 🫡🙌🏻🙏🏻
For a service that costs 20 dollars a month, you would expect to be able to host a meeting, edit your episode, or at the very least, preview what you just recorded in the mobile app. As a traveling podcaster, this makes things extremely difficult for me.
