Another reason I’ll gladly always have SCU accounts as long as I live in WA. Not just great customer service but also a great app that is easy to navigate and very intuitive. Can’t do everything you can do on the browser but no complaints here... not everything SHOULD be done on a mobile app. Hopeful that the “money management” extension will be a separate app in the future that allows me to set notifications and all the stuff I use the Mint app for. The extension still works very well! I’d gladly delete the competitor and use Sounds CU’s “Money Management” if it was transformed into an app in place of just being an extension. Very very impressed that I like my mobile app while those banking with “big bank” complain about their mobile apps. Great job guys! :D
Sound Credit Union found a way to give their users a terrifying bad transition experience from their old mobile banking system to the new one, in which poor instructions and poor communication made it completely unclear how to get back in when the system did finally come back up. The new app is the same as the old one. They put a new UI on that simply makes it look more like an excel spreadsheet. What’s particularly frustrating is that the beloved text banking is completely gone. I used to immediately receive an alert any time any transaction occurred in any of my accounts. I always knew my balance and when a transaction took place, so I was confident I could stop fraud right away and be aware of my financial situation. With the new mobile banking and this app, notifications are limited and delayed. There are none available at all for the credit card, which was the entire reason I switched to Sound Cu In the first place. I understand the frustration of having to adjust to a “new thing”. Yes, I had to go to the nearest branch and show my ID so I could get my membership # to be able to get this thing up and running. I had tried calling but that was a disaster. Popping into the bank literally took one minute! It was so worth it! What I love, love, LOVE about this is the Money Management section. I was able to get the balances of my three different bank accounts and four major credit cards all in one place. So rather than logging in an out of different apps and having to do the math in my head I can log into Sound CU and see it all. It’s great!
Probably one of the worst apps I’ve EVER come across. The old app was just fine. If they wanted to update it, they could’ve developed an app that didn’t make you verify check deposits that don’t need verifying. They could’ve developed an app that didn’t give an error message once or twice a week when trying to sign in. They could’ve developed an app that didn’t have an unnecessary large amount of “system updates” every month. Transfers within my accounts don’t immediately show visible like they used to with the old app. Pending charges and current/available balances sometimes just don’t add up when looking at the balance sheet. Yet somehow after a few days everything evens out??? The problems are continuous and eventually will lead to account closure. There are MANY credit unions out there that have a user friendly app available.
This app is definitely nicer than the old one, but it was a pain setting up. I had to go onto a desktop and login “for the first time” using my member number and last 4 ssn. After doing that I had to create a user name and password (it let me choose my old ones) and then I updated my phone number (didn’t realize I had an old one.) After doing that initial setup, I was able to login on the app and verify my number by texting. Now it’s working perfectly. From download to mobile banking it took about 3 minutes.
Been with Sound Credit Union since it was Telco Credit Union, and I have to say, as a member off another Bank, I would have to say that This App for Sound Credit Union is by far the Best I’ve had the pleasure off working with. Everything works fine except you can’t transfer money into someone else’s sound account. I’ve been having to go into the branch for them to do it for me when I could have easily done it from the app. It keeps saying error unable to perform this transaction. So please fix this ASAP as it is becoming an inconvenience & I’ll change my rating thanks!!
Sound Credit Union has actually been the best bank I’ve been an active member at. No unexpected or hidden fees and when I was charged for an overdraft I simply explained my situation and they dismissed it and credited the money back to my account on good faith. So far so good and I’m glad I chose them as my bank upon my arrival when I moved to a new location a year and some weeks ago
The app in the beginning was confusing and frustrating at first. After that everything went smoothly. I like how you can add other cards/ bank info all together. Only thing I would consider on the old app to the new app is I used to get text messages right away when I swiped my card to show my current balance left. I went into notifications to try and see if I can find it but no luck. Maybe will call into app support... Otherwise everything is good!
I didn’t realize how great this sight was until i got a new bank account and their in line app is just not the same. Logging in is easy. Moving money between my accounts is simple. Paying my bills and setting up new contacts simple. Easy to find contact information for help as well
Every single time I go to deposit a check it makes me double and triple check the picture. It is extremely annoying and inefficient. It now takes me 3x the amount of time to deposit checks than with the previous app. Also, I have a business account and not being allowed to pay a bill online over the amount of $1500 is ludicrous. Businesses should be able to pay large bills online. Please fix these issues!
The old app was fine, even if simple. And now I can’t login in. Tried to do the online setup and it wouldn’t work so I have to call later. And other reviews seem to indicate I’ll have to input all my bill info again and redo mint info. This is what happens when bored desk jockeys come up with new stuff to justify their jobs. #fail
I was profoundly disappointed to fund that you can no longer see past transactions on the bill pay feature of the mobile app. I was told that i can log into a desktop and view history...c’mon Sound! More and more people DON’T use thier desktops as their primary mode of interfacing on the web. We use tablets and phones!! You took us backwards with this lost feature!! Please bring it back!! This rollout was messy and the new site is not as clean and easy to use as the last, not to mention the loss of useful features!! It is very disappointing!!
The app works great, but only if you can get in. When I first got this it told me my information was wrong no matter what I put in. So then I go into the actual bank and wait just to have them try to log me in, which took about an hour. Now I can’t log in because my email is no longer “correct”. Will never recommend this bank to anyone until they get it together. This is not worth all I’ve gone through just to check my balance every once and awhile. Just go to a different bank to save time.
Had many of the same issues the day of the switch. I waited a day and tried it again. Deleted the old app, got the new one, problem solved. Gotta love this “I want it now” generation. Great credit union, app is great. Excellent customer service. Always get a real human being who actually speaks English whenever I have had to call, within 4 rings.
App updates should be seamless, this is not. I’m traveling and cannot access my account via the new App and the mobile website no longer recognizes my credentials either. Time to switch to a CU that understands how to test technology and user experience before launching a new customer facing application.
This app has the worst mobile check deposit I’ve ever used. It doesn’t matter your camera quality, the dark background you use, or the amount of lights you try. Reject. Reject. Reject. Oooh suddenly works after 20 minutes. Every time. I’ve never heard of or encountered the amount of problems I’ve seen with this app’s mobile deposit. And SCU doesn’t fix the problems. Our time continues to be given up trying to make their app work, while other apps are a breeze.
The available amount in the account should be what appears larger print/in green and before total. It is easier to see and appears first when you open the account. Which should be what is available (not with pending transactions)
Can you please make the deposit picture auto capture a configurable setting? I can never seem to be able to get the check straight enough for recognition of it to work right. I know you can turn it off before taking it, but it’s an extra button click that I don’t want to have to do every time.
We joined this credit union several years back when divesting from JP Morgen & WellsFargo. Since then my son’s been financed for his first car and refinanced with exceptional service from their Staff in Seattle Madison office. We feel welcome every time we go in or are walking by and someone waves- thank you!!!
I have iOS 16 on my phone, I have deleted and reinstall the app, I still cannot get the camera to turn sideways to take a picture of the check. I let the bank know a month ago. I tried again this week and it still does not work. I cannot find any way to let the developer know other than telling the bank which I did a month ago. This is more than a little frustrating, given the digital age of banking.
Reliable, functional app. It went through some growing pains but now works great. My main complaint is that bill payment due notifications are inconsistent, even when set up correctly. Please fix the notifications so I get one every time before my bill is due. Thanks!
The new app doesn’t bring anything, that I can tell, new to the table. It’s design is different, more modern I guess but not easier to read. Also, I used to use the graphs a lot, that’s gone so that’s a negative. Why go through the huge process of taking away everyone’s old login, inconveniencing the bill Pay setups, take away certain helpful features? I’m assuming it was at a steep cost too. Mostly I’m miffed at the graphs being gone. They didn’t even work well but it was still helpful.
I am very happy with sounds app and branches. The downtown Tacoma branch the puyallup branch and the Lacey branch are very accessible and always helpful. With the recent merger or take over of umpqua and Columbia bank, it’s nice to see sound credit Union stand the test of time. Thank you Chuck manning
I went to local branch to report that I traveled oversea . I told them do not block my transaction. I stopped Seoul, South Korea and I could access my fund while my flight was delayed. I was starving and this was second time they blocked my fund. I intended to close my account after experiencing that. Thanks to strangers who paid my lunch. He used his US bank card. Very disappointed experience with Credit Union.
At first I had trouble logging in but than realized it was operator error. It’s your sound ID account #, not your account number you would find on your check. Tech support was wonderful and didn’t make me feel like an idiot.
I love the Sound Rewards! One year for Christmas, I was able to buy my daughter a ticket using most of my reward points along with a little over $100. I also like having an account locally close to where I live.
... why does the splash screen constantly say that stuff about if this is your first time logging in? It should be child’s play for the programmers to know that the app has been signed into and suppress that. Just seems sloppy.
Thanks for all the info. I logged in on a web browser first and established a new ID, password and made sure my mobile was correct. Launched app and got right in. Having all the info up front helped.
The mobile check deposit does not work! The pictures I am taking are clear and show all the information it is asking for, but it always pops up a box asking to retake them because it does not see date or signature! Now I have a check that I was forced to write “for sound cu mobile deposit only”, but sound cu cannot read or accept it! And Im no longer near any local branch since I moved years ago! The old app worked great and allowed me to do all my banking without a local branch... but this new app is garbage (not to mention they’re botched roll out of it). After being their customer for over 25 years I will now be forced to finally move to a different credit union.
I do not enjoy the changes where we can no longer enter a note when we make a transfer to another account. Please recover this organizational feature. Thank you!
This app is the worst app I have among all apps I have not to mention all other bank apps I have used. It takes forever to log in or use fingerprint to log in. I have tried off load the app, restart the phone etc. the things I don’t have to do with other app. I begin to think I will just move my money elsewhere. I hate to use big banks like Chase but it’s app is so much better. Please improve!!!!
After logging into updated online banking and getting new password set up, I tried setting up the newly downloaded app and sent through the hoops for setup and THEN required to change my password AGAIN. After doing that, it just froze. It won’t acknowledge the verified password, it won’t change screens, it won’t do anything. Totally feels like I’ve been hacked. So much for increased security and convenience.
The bank itself is amazing, no complaints. But when I try to turn my card on after it being off, it won’t work. And then I’m just stuck standing there or having to return everything. Super inconvenient. And in such a high tech world, something like this shouldn’t be an issue.

Having a hard time signing up compared to other inline banking. Called. their customer hotline about the issue but they can’t even help me. Waste of time waiting for 25 minutes only to be told they can’t give access my account because they don’t have an account specialist.
The mobile deposit function is not working as the prompt for me to rotate my device remains on screen no matter what I do. Other than that the app is quite useful and well designed, but I am out of state and would like to be able to deposit my check.
This is one of the worst apps I’ve ever used. It barely works and has frequent periods where it doesn’t work at all. I have to use this to make my car payments, and it seems like it never works the same way twice. I’m going to have to refinance my auto loan to another bank just so I can make my car payments. Horrible!
This app should’ve been tested several times before launching and completely shutting down the old app. Nothing but problems since this “upgrade”. I can’t even get on the website with my log in info. DUMB DUMB DUMB. Updating 9/25 This up still is giving me a hard time! My accounts aren’t always visible, seems like there is a “system error” at least 3-5 days a week! It’s ridiculous!
Interest charges do not show in the online or the desktop version of Sound Credit Union
You cannot see the service charges charged to your Sound credit union credit card when you are viewing online transactions. All of a sudden when you’re doing the math, the balance is off.
This new Sound Credit Union app is slow & gives errors all the time. I have uninstalled and reinstalled several times which doesn’t fix any of the issues. I can’t ever see transactions in my checking account which creates a huge issue for me. Seriously considering switching credit unions because of the regressed functionality in this new app.
After you get passed the annoying captcha proving you are human, you go to page which has a title “update email” with an error 9999. The only thing you can do is sign out? So you close the App, load it again, go through the login + 2FA, and the Captcha, to get the same error. Also no support for face recognition for sign-on.
This app has been filled with problems from the beginning. It took my husband and I over 40 minutes to get it to work on my phone and then when trying to set it up on his phone with the same information used on mine it wouldn't let him in and then locked us out of our account. Very frustrated and disappointed.
