This app is very unstable. Over an hour it may pause several times. Might even exit to having to open app again or get a screen that says “bebop bee bop something went wrong”. Sound will cut out for a couple seconds. No where near as user friendly as the box. I use Apple TV as my platform. I get 450 mbs cable speed. I get same issues on 2 TV’s; one direct cable connection the other Wi-Fi. I don’t have any of these issues with other apps i.e. Prime, HBO max, Netflix etc. I’m going to try Apple TV which has all but 1 Channel I watch. Sparklight TV app needs serious work. I can’t imagine HBO max releasing such junk as this.
There is no way to set favorite channels, which is a big miss in my opinion. Also, for recordings you cannot set how many episodes you want to keep so the older versions roll off automatically and you don’t have to go in and delete all the time. And too many buttons to push to get the “Last” functionality on a normal tv remote.
I was a bit concerned about making the move to the Sparklight TV streaming solution given the reviews on the iPhone app. But after getting 3 TVs setup and working, the firetvsticks and remotes are working better than I expected. I am not using the iPhone app as my primary TV/streaming controller- using the firetvstick remotes for that (as that is how the system is designed).
App keeps losing connection to networks. Doesn’t work on Fire TV Stick, iPhone or iPad on your own home wifi. It doesn’t let one restart a program. When watching a show it restarts after getting two thirds through it. Overall this is a poorly developed app and needs to go back to the drawing board. With as much as you pay to watch cable tv with this app you think it would work. App still not working on iPhone as of 18 April 2023 and barely working on the other platforms. If possible I would rate it zero stars.
We have this app on all our Firesticks to access what little bit of local cable channels we are still paying for. It keeps telling us we are not home and we can only watch recorded shows away from home. We reverify that it is logged in to our home network and nothing changes…Useless piece of crap that we have spent our hard earned $$ trying to make work for a month now! No more, cutting cable completely. We can more reliably watch live local news through the ABC, CBS, and NBC apps.
It's a nice switch from Cable TV, but there's a lot of bugs. When watching live TV for instance, sometimes it freezes and you have to reselect "Watch Live" to force it to start playing again. Not a connection issue but a software issue. I would also like the ability to screencast from my iphone to the TV
I have been trying this service for about 14 months. Sparklight Streaming is inconsistent on my TVs, iPad and IPhone .I constantly receive connection error messages to include “must be in the home to watch this” but my internet is not the problem. All my other apps operate, just fine without any interruptions. Moving on to a better and more reliable option:
Works ok, but only in the house within range of the modern. Your out of luck if you are away from home with time to kill and want to watch a tv program. I have televisions to watch at home, if the modem drops both are out.
I have Sparklight tv and internet and it would not accept my username/password. It gives you a phone number to call. I called it but the person I ended up talking to didn’t even know they had an app. They walked me through accessing it via a web browser and then it still didn’t work. TV Everywhere and the Sparklight app seem to be a complete bust.
I am now getting the same error as others claiming I am not at home. I have not changed anything. It’s way overpriced for the quality you get. I am hardwired and I get lots of claims I am not connected to the internet when none of my other apps on Apple TV have issues. Not worth the money very disappointing
Absolutely useless. Can’t watch anything with this. Not sure why they would even offer this “app.” because it does nothing but make you wonder why you are subscribing to Sparklight!
Won’t let me sign in, says wrong username/pw, even though I just used it on the website. Thought that surely the devs would’ve had the months-old issue other reviews mentioned, but that’s what I get for assuming…
This Sparklight app constantly loses synch requiring us to change channels and select “Go Live”, or sometimes exiting the app altogether. This happens way too often, several times each day (“Beep-Boop-Beep-Boop” is so annoying!)! When first starting the app we often need to wait 5 to 10 minutes for the channel lineup to refresh as well. This happens on each AppleTV with Sparklight (we have three in our house). And it’s Not network related. Our network connection is strong at all TVs, and all of our other app (I.e., Max, Prime Video, Netflix, …) function just fine. This clearly is a case of a half-baked app. Sparklight - take the time to FIX your App!!! Know that I do have options - I.e., Hulu, YouTube, etc., and they all are becoming more interesting each day your app behaves poorly!
We were told Sparklight was switching all TV to this app. I was super supportive. We have 1tb download speed. The app has been garbage regardless the streaming device we play it on. It freezes, gives a dumb bee bob error message and tries to say “it’s probably your internet” which by the way is offered by Sparklight. So, to test it I open three other streaming apps that work flawlessly like Hulu. Even in 4K they work awesome. Sparklight does not deserve a TV business if it can’t invest in the basics of streaming stability. Do yourself a favor, until they fix it, choose another TV service. I am a digital app expert and know the real problem is an under invested app.
Nice features with poor performance and ease of use
I’m not happy that Sparklight forced this change on us. The fire stick was so full of bloatware that was not removable and confusing that I bought an Apple TV for my elderly parents. Changing channels is ridiculous. Trying to explain the steps to my elderly parents has proven futile and now I have to set the channel for them. Streams get stuck at least once every hour or two. Lock ups can be fixed by switching back & forth to another channel or some other ways. My previous cable TV service never did this. It costs more, I didn’t ask for this and the ‘added’ features. No local recording like I had with my old cable card set up. Current time isn’t displayed until you get into the guide. I was watching the SImpsons and now have several Simpsons episodes that pop up as recently watched, no easy way to get rid of them. That only confuses what is live tv and what isn’t. I had been using Channels.app and didn’t realize how spoiled I was. I set it to ‘record’ our local PBS news program, detail looked crushed by compression vs when I recorded it locally. Simple TV watching is now complicated and unreliable. The added features are nice but I’d happily give them up to have my old cable back and local recording using Emby and live TV using Channels. Never should have been a price increase for this decrease in service.
The Sparklight App. Doesn’t work and people at Sparklight can’t help
What a farce. I can login to my Sparklight account, but my username and password won’t work on their app. I called Sparklight and the rep reached out to their tech group and got no response. She had me change my password (I love doing that-not) and that didn’t work. She did the same and she couldn’t access their app. That was this am and still haven’t had a call back. The app gave me error code 401. When you look at it on their site it promises help, but the solution wasn’t even applicable. What a farce!!! Not happy….
