I used to be able to listen regularly with some minor issues. As of lately it doesn’t even play live at all for me. Switched to tune in radio and now they dropped the team 980....
Being out of market, I was happy to find the ESPN 980 app to keep up on all things Redskins, and listen to the games live if I am unable to watch. I have never reviewed an app, but was compelled to do us because of how horrible this one has functioned. I have tried to delete and reinstall this even, hoping there was some sort of bug that would fix, but even then very rarely will the live feed work. Even when it does work, it cuts out after a short period of time. Very disappointed in this app with all of the great content 980 produces. Hopefully it’s upgraded soon....
App no longer provides the show, but you’ll be forced to watch /hear ads before you can discover the sound player doesn’t work. This used to be my goto place for local sports, ESPECIALLY FOR THE NFL. Bet the executives are still getting paid from this app but the on-air talent is not.
When this app first came out, it worked well enough. But with each update it just got worse and worse. Now it’s telling me it can’t connect to the Internet when my phone is on Wi-Fi. Just horrible.
I have enjoyed previous versions of The Team 980 App. The podcast versions of the shows allowed me to enjoy The Morning Blitz with Al Galdi, and The Steve Czaban Show. A recent update, unfortunately, has ruined the app. Problem observed Wed 18 Sept 2019. Now, in the Shows page, when I pick the show, an animated ad launches (this is a new placement for an ad). When I close out the ad, the list of podcasts for that show is frozen. I see only the first couple of podcasts. Nothing I pick actually works. Can’t scroll, can’t menu download a podcast, can’t even use the Back button. I blame greed for having the animated ad addition disrupt the app.
Lately this app plays a couple of commercials then crashes. Get it together, it’s disappointing for someone who lives out of market to really only have this app to listen live and it not work.
This app has never been “good.” At least I could hear the DC sports personalities talk DC sports most of the time. Now? Nothing! Gave this rating one star because I couldn’t give it less.
I'm a fan of ESPN 980, so I'm pleased they released the app. It is a good start, but does need attention to the front end (the app) and major attention to the back end. The "Listen Live" feature works so-so. I have had more dropouts streaming with this app than I have had with alternate streaming apps that can also reach the same station (Football Radio-Washington). And sometimes I simply cannot connect without multiple retries (naturally during games). I suspect this is a matter of back-end provisioning for large numbers. I do appreciate the option to call in. This feature properly has a warning that you will be responsible to your carrier for minutes used. It is a great fallback, especially if you need to listen to programming that is blacked out on the Internet. My major issue with the app is that the RSS feeds are spotty and highly inconsistent. That is, it he back episodes. Sometimes they are provided nearly immediately. Sometimes they are duplicated a day later. And sometimes they are not provided at all, or seem to disappear without warning. This is the most frustrating aspect of this app; it is purely a back-end issue that can only be fixed by ESPN 980 management committing to a "zero-defect" mandate across all their programming. I hope they can.

ESPN 980 has really done a nice job with this one. All of the Redskins and Terps games via live stream; All of Kornheiser's podcasts and the rest of the station's podcasts are included. I like listening to Cooley and Czabe on the way home, but sometimes I miss a show so it's nice to have them all in one place. And they've included some new feeds: Monday Morning Quarterback, Featured Interviews and Redskins podcasts. If i miss anything on-air, it'll be on the app. Really easy to find everything. And I can read new articles from Kevin Sheehan, too. Nice!
Like the content . But the commercials are overwhelming
Every time you stop the stream prepare to wait through the dumbest 30 second bandwidth chewing video ads. Really!? And you can’t even bother to keep the show titles updated? But you sure cranked up the commercials. I liked the app. I would pay 5$/month to have no commercials ( other than in the stream). I guess I’m going to be getting tunein and paying the 5$ there and not getting all the cool archive content. Ugh
I love this radio station. As a DMV fan that is living in New England, I rely on this app to get my fix. Unfortunately the steam is not always available and frequently just stops playing inexplicably. The on demand streams almost always quits mid show and if you pause the show for more than a few seconds it won't start back up. This app is a GREAT idea! Just poorly executed. I hope they figure it out. Until then I have use other outlets like Stitcher which sometimes carries recorded Skins and also plays live streaming.
As a life-long Redskins fan and D. C. native living in New England it's fantastic to be able to hear the games every Sunday for the first time in years as well as the local commentary at other times. Reception on my iPhone is great. Prior to this app, I used a generic radio reception app that worked but didn't allow me to do other things on my phone at the same time like this app does. This is the app to have for those Redskin fans who don't live in the D. C. area.
I have been enjoying 980 for a Long time, now that I’m stationed in Europe I really rely on the 980 App. One thank in particular was cooley and Kevin. What happened to Cooley and Kevin and why was there never an explanation given. One thing that always relied on was Cooley’s explanation of x’s and o’s for starters and most importantly his grades. Someone please tell me what happened to the best show on 980 and when is it coming back???!!!
The app makes you listen to an add to start the livestream. Ok, that’s fine. However, on metro in the tunnels, if the app drops off in between metro stations, it makes you listen to the add all over again before it restarts the stream. Horribly annoying. The app is almost unusable in the tunnels because all you hear is the ad. They need to fix it so you only have to listen to the ad once per day (or even once per hour would be fine).
I am a lifelong Redskins fan that has the displeasure of living in Cowboy country. Being able to listen to Skins radio shows is a blessing. I especially enjoy Kevin & Cooley’s show. You can either listen live or to replays of their shows. The main problem with the app isn’t the app’s fault. The greedy NFL won’t allow the games to be broadcast live. They of course want to drive you to pay them instead. HTTR
Starting the app when I left my house and had to listen to a 30 second ad before the live stream started. 25 minutes later I arrived at work and heard but ads. This app is a joke, can’t listen live. Have to listen at night when the podcasts are ready
App forces you to the live feed and makes getting to a specific podcast a few steps too many because it forces loading of unnecessary pages. Updating of audio segments is sometimes way too long. Also be prepared for an uninvited pop up or ad every time you hit the pause button. That part alone makes you want to stop listening This is not an app for listening to your favorite show, it’s for advertising.
App does not work after the update! Whoever tested this update before rolling it out to production should be fired. And who's dumb idea was it to make the user call in to listen live? For an app that advertises itself as a way to listen to live Redskins games, that was a stupid thing to do. Who is gonna make a 3 hour phone call to listen to a game on speakerphone? I for one will not be the one, there are other ways to do it. You have just lost a loyal subscriber. And I know I won't be the last! I'm sure your advertisers are happy to know that. Good luck.
Love Kevin. He is a fair and honest man. Listen to him every day. Glad he made it back to 980. I made a comment on Twitter a year ago when they let him go and said that it was not a good business move and there ratings would plummet! Glad everything worked out for Kevin and 980. Constantly shuts down making you have to hit play again, which starts with a commercial. Coincidence? Often will only play/show previous broadcasts from hours or days earlier, not the current live show, no matter how many times I restart. Cannot use with Apple Car Play via Bluetooth, only when connected via USB... 👎🏻
When I start the app, it says that I’ll be subject to a 30 second ad before programming begins. Not true. Most of the time, I’m subject to an endless array of advertising that lasts in excess of 10 minutes and never kicks into the actual programming. I have downloaded Newest version I have contacted tech support. Please fix!
Edit: they fixed the ad issue. Love the app! Great for DC sports content! Love the app and the content from all the guys. But every time I get a call while listening to the app (which is pretty often), I get a freaking ad playing over top of the audio!! Please make this stop! I understand ads but overtop of the audio while I am listening?! Come on.
The app can't stream for more than 15 - 20 without buffering. And once it does it normally crashes or stalls. I have tried it with home wi-fi, my 4G LTE data plan...tri d different times of day...doesn't matter. Other streaming radio and video sites I use never have this problem.
Not sure what you did to it but you ruined this app, too many commercials it’s too aggravating to even log onto this app. And listen to a show trying to squeeze out every drop of money just let us listen to the show
The app started crashing Friday . I actually deleted and reinstalled on my iPhone and it made it worse. Won’t even open now. Before the reinstall it started to load the stream and then would crash.
Excellent programming, I have been a long time listener and must say this really is a great station. I was really upset when Kevin left but I’m beyond joyful he was asked to return. Continue the great work. Ps Doc if you see Bruce Allen while you are at the skins facility kindly tell him to adore him self because Dan won’t do it.
There are ads to open the app and ads every time I pause the streaming, on top of the radio commercials. I understand money is to be made, but coupled with the glitches, it mean the app needs to be closed and restarted again, and more ads. Why can’t I stream the Skins game anymore?
The app arbitrarily stops for pop up ads and you have to close the as before whatever show you were listening to starts to play again. Sometimes you have to close and restart the app to get it functioning again. THEY DO NOT LIVE STREAM GAMES!! I have been looking for a way to listen to games on my phone and this app is not one of them even though they say it does and even though Dan Snyder owns the station.
I use this app while driving. Recently there have been horrible buggy final fantasy advertisements inside the app that don’t launch correctly. It renders the app unusable while driving because I have to close the ad in order to play the podcast. Greed is a horrible thing
The new ads you added in August 2018 are so annoying. Greatly diminishes the UX of the app and it makes me want to stop listening to the recorded podcasts, which I would previously listen to on a daily basis. Please consider dropping those new ads or at least allow them to be skipped.
Once the change from ESPN980 to the team 980 app, the adverts are out of control. The app crashes several times and must be restarted which also takes you through another ad.
I recently downloaded the Team 980 App, although I don't listen to the shows in real time, how long does it take for any particular show, once it has concluded, to be updated on the podcast?
I'm a big fan of Jason Reid's Man Cave, the Sports Fix and the Tony Kornheiser show. I didn't like having to download the ESPN radio app when all wanted was Washington DC sports. This app is dedicated to everything sports in the District of Columbia. Also, when will Kevin Blackistone get his own show?!? More DC sports please!!
I’m so happy to have discovered the Team 980 app. I only have a ten minute drive to work, so I never had a chance to listen to much in the truck. Now I can listen to my favorite radio station all the time!
For what this owner charges and pays you would think a better app could be designed. Interphase is horrible and challenging to navigate. The crashes and drops are constant and the idea of calling in to listen to the radio shows? Seriously? The quality is so poor it sounds like HAM radio. I guess I should be satisfied that I can listen to Redskins radio, though. Right? Since its just about Halloween I have just one last word for the app….Boo!!
I love the app for the most part. After most recent update, I noticed the app would not let me download podcasts after clicking the download bottom. Please fix.
I downloaded this app just to listen to the games since I moved out of the area. Well, last Sunday, I discovered that you can't use the app to tune into games anymore. The NFL requires an annual subscription of $99!! So I'm supposed to PAY to listen to a mediocre team each week?? Sports bars are too crowded to watch the games, so I've been bumped out from supporting my own team. That's fine by me. Guess that makes this app worthless.
Al Galdi is the best thing going on the 980 schedule. We Miss him on redskins postgame. If I can’t listen live, I always download his shows: The morning blitz & chin music. Cooley & Doc Walker are also good. Galdi just knows so much about all sports & he delivers it well.
