Compelling design and production, needs some fine tuning
I have to say, I felt a level of immersion in this game that I rarely find with other point-and-clicks. The art direction and animation is certainly five star worthy and it's a fun and quirky sci-fi storyline that's easy to buy into, plenty of interesting characters with a quality voice cast. Unfortunately, some less than efficient game play and odd glitches near the end left me with less than complete satisfaction. I wish they could give you some text description for items in the inventory, guess they didn't want to have to worry about localization. Hoping there's another title in the works from this developer.
While nicely animated, the gameplay can become tedious. Frequently in order to progress, you have to repeat conversations with characters which is a bit illogical. The mechanics of using inventory items is devoid of any thought. If an inventory item can be used, it is automatically selected for you. Most games of this type require you to figure out on your own which inventory item or combination of items to use in a given situation. Finally, and most frustrating is a rendering bug I encountered as I was just about to complete the game. The bug has prevented me from finishing the game. Watching a walkthrough online, the bug became obvious. At one point Gretchen is fighting with Lazarus and a force field generates around them. When I played the game, the force field was a solid, grid of hexagons. When I watched the walkthrough, the grid is supposed to be transparent. This is essential to the progression of the game. In my case the sequence renders incorrectly and leaves me stranded after playing for several hours. Hopefully the developer does a better job on the next one.
I just completed this game in about 6.5 hours on my new iPhone 12 Pro Max. It was wonderful to find myself immersed in a game and its storyline. The gameplay took me back to the days of Monkey Island, Loom and Grim Fandango. I wish more people made games like this. My experience was completely glitch-free and the hotspot indicators ensured that it remained fun instead of being an exercise in frustration. This is not a game for the ADD generation as it requires thinking, listening and no killing whatsoever to progress. The only part I didn’t enjoy was the seemingly endless series of questions that needed to be answered in exactly the right sequence to escape the sanatorium. I must admit that I needed the help of an online walkthrough for that part. I loved this game and I hope the producers will make more such games. Truly a labor of love and thankfully without any in-game purchases or advertising. For five bucks this is a steal.
I played this on a 2018 iPad Pro and had no problems. Thoroughly satisfying game!!! Just a couple bugs that didn’t affect game play or crash the game like others have reported. I have played it on my iPhone 7 as well, with no problems. The best experience is with the big screen though. Lots of details. Be patient to find the objects. If you can’t proceed, you are missing something somewhere. Many times you have to revisit characters and ask engage them in new conversations. It was a nice long game, but I am left wanting more! Truberbrook 2 please. Looking at the credits, it is hard to believe how many people it took to make this and I believe it. Well done guys. I will send the bug report. BTW the credits are like Marvel movies, hint hint.
There’s a lot to like in this game - clever visuals, cunning puzzles, a genuinely oddball sense of humor - but it very clearly isn’t ready for wide release, which is embarrassing given how long it’s been on the market. I agree with other reviewers about the amateurish localization. The English version definitely needs a thorough proofread for basic spelling & grammar. There’s also a general bugginess that would be frustrating enough were it not for other issues. More serious problems turn up the deeper a player moves into the game. Playable objects (some of them crucial to completing puzzles) are missing tags, leaving players in limbo or sending them off in search of a walkthrough. Then there’s the ever-tedious issue of forcing players to repeat conversations in hope of uncovering a nugget of useful information. Much of the humor pales on the third pass, and the conversation interactions themselves are poorly engineered. The biggest problem (for me, anyway) is a bug in Chapter 3 that presents an insoluble roadblock. Even though I’ve played the section correctly (I’ve checked several walkthroughs) an essential interaction does not work, so I’m stranded without recourse. (Playing on iPad Mini 2021, btw.) Don’t bother reaching out to support: nobody’s home. So, one star for the clever bits & overall ambition. But spend your money on a game that actually works.
The game is strikingly beautiful, and the puzzles are fairly interesting. One complaint I have is that the pace of the game is incredibly slowed by the abundance of dialogue, much of which is un-skippable, and including a 5-10 minute musical interlude that also cannot be skipped. The layout is one of my favorite styles, classic point and click adventure in the vein of King’s Quest and Monkey Island, only the inventory items are chosen for you when you interact with something in the screen, and again, the pacing is nearly unbearable. Still I give it 4 stars, because it obviously had a lot of heart and a lot of time put into sculpting the world of Truberbrook.
Absolutely loved this point-and-click adventure. Gorgeous artwork. Lovely background music...which is often overlooked in adventure games...BGM is integral to an immersive game. Likable characters. The voice acting was fine. And the storyline was enjoyable. (although I must add...the adult content is unnecessary) The controls were easy to use. Interacting with inventory items was unique in that the action wouldn’t engage unless you had acquired the necessary item. So that reduced the difficulty of the game overall. On the plus side...there’s no drag & dropping every time you get stumped. But still, the entire game was logical and progressed smoothly. No issues with glitches. Seems that some negative reviews here are primarily due to glitches...which is not a fair review of the actual game. And those people who are complaining about the game being slow or difficult should probably stick to playing angry birds instead. Point and click adventures are supposed to be story-driven and based in logic & creative challenges. This game deserves 5⭐️!
Beautiful graphics. Patience required as one needs to explore each scene which can be tedious with the UI but not unfamiliar with such games. Good voice-overs. Works fine on iPhone XR. Overall appears 2B an above average point and click adventure. One can tell care & consideration were put into this game. Kudos to the developer.
The art work is beautiful. It looks like the story would be fun. It is however one of the more games that tired to play. I am a former “closed” game tester. This is one I would have had a lot of write ups for. It just does not want to work flawlessly. It takes forever to get one item. The controls within the game were tedious. I am sure the story line was awesome. I just can’t go on with this one. I usually never do a low review. I waited until there were some really nice ones to balance this out. Please read some from the good and the bad and the middle before you pay for the game and try it yourself. It may be JUST the game that YOU will enjoy. That is what ratings are for. Use the info and make a decision. Thanks Tezza
I bought it when it first came out and asked for and received a refund because it didn’t work on my iPad 5th generation with 128GB of Ram despite the App Store stating it would. After several app updates in response to a ton of warranted complaints about device compatibility, it is now working flawlessly on my iPad and I am so glad I repurchased this game. I was rooting so hard for this game, since it looked so quirky and fun, and is had delivered so far after about 2 hours of gameplay. No crashes, saves work, and very lovely attention to detail. As a German, this game has so many little details and accents that are adorable and well done. A perfect game for fans of relaxing point and click adventures with good characters, scenery and storyline. Please make more of these, but make sure they work for the majority of device owners.
I really enjoyed playing this game. I did not have any crashing issues as some others reported. I thought the story line and puzzles were entertaining and also challenging. The only feed back I have is, I wish when you get the map that you could access it anytime rather than in only a couple areas. Other than that i had a lot of fun.
After many hours of play I’m very happy with Truberbrook’s stability and ease of play. The story is compelling and quite interesting, I’m always wondering what’s next. I look forward to playing it again and again, plenty of twists and turns. The story, the graphics, the music, the voice acting are all excellent!
I don’t normally write reviews but just wanted to say thanks to all the creators of this game. Amazing job! Love the graphics, the voice overs, and the music is awesome too. And I always liked these types of games, and this one has been fun!! I’m about half way thru (I think.) I hope you guys make another game in the future. Very talented. Great work.
Some reviews made me think there was a big problem, but whatever it worked great and I was able to finish game. I did have to use walkthrough guides for a few weird things, but enjoyed the graphics and gameplay.
Do not buy this game. It really isn’t intuitive and one has to tap everywhere boringly and repetitively to progress. I have been stuck in the cave and have both watched walkthroughs and tapped and tapped , repeated steps ad nauseam. Am convinced now that this game has serious glitches even with recent updates. I also seriously doubt the 5 star reviews ? .......I am going to write to Apple to complain. Do not waste your money.
Auto-save for this game (only) is NOT working on my 2017 iPad Pro (running iOS 13), a real deal-breaker, so, Developers: ... if you’d like me to review the game please fix the problem and/or explain how to get the feature to function — then let me know and I’ll be happy to play through and post a review of your otherwise apparently delightful point and click adventure game. Thanks in advance for addressing this issue ⁉️⁉️
This game was fun, it reminded me of the Monkey Island games. It was very tricky, plenty of puzzles and mini quests. There was a lot of great humor, the dialogue and characters were entertaining and funny. I just want to know: who is Beverly??
Beautiful game but it shuts itself down. They need to fix this. Perhaps developers would reevaluate what devices can actually handle their app since so many are having problems with it. I look forward to being able to play this very promising game.
I absolutely loved this game!! could have definitely used some hints here and there as i was left stumped a few times but it was overall very fun and engaging. loved the witty commentary and the storyline was awesome!!
The version for iPad leaves a lot to be desired. The graphics are not as good as what I had seen on other platforms. The gameplay itself is rather slow and doesn’t follow simple logic in many cases. I would recommend just about anything other than this game.
Looks like an amazing game but for me it crashes right from the start. I’m bummed and feel that I wasted my money. I have plenty of memory and it’s compatible with my iPad and I’ve done all the typical things so I’m at a loss and will wait for another update
I have an iPad 2 air that has as much memory as it could. Still, this thing crashes easily. It’s a marvelous game, but very hard to play for that reason. It badly needs an update.
The game was working perfectly fine until an update a few months ago. Now it crashes without ceasing. I’m very disappointed. I was enjoying it until then.
Super disappointed because this looks like a pretty game with a potentially compelling story but it consistently crashes a few minutes into the game in the bedroom of the inn before I can even get out of the room.
I can barely play 5 mins and it crashes, and it does not save my progress. I’m not deleting it yet because I paid $5 for it Hopefully it will have an update soon enough that fixes it.
Unfortunately I have been unable to play this game due to it crashing every time you need to move into a different scene. Because of this I’ve been unable to make any progress.
Thank you for the aggressive attention updating the app. Beautiful graphics, easy to use interface, and overall enjoyable game. Updated my original rating after the last games patch - rocky start but outstanding end result! Looks like a fun game on my iPhoneX but won’t play on my iPad Pro (9.7 inch) which has much more than 3gb of available space. For a paid game I’d have expected the description of supported hardware to be more accurate. The graphics look great on my phone and the interface was nice but challenging on my phone so I gave it 2 stars. I’ll be very hesitant if I have any future purchases with this developer.
This game does not work on IPad Air ll. It keeps shutting down. I have tried to reinstall it, but it still doesn’t work. Any ideas? Absolutely no response from developers!
Good game, fantastic visuals and great music/sound, but the game crashes every time you load a new scene practically from Ch. 4 on. I have an iPad with the latest iOS and the crash spots never repeat, it’s always the first attempt. Then you go back in and resume from the auto save point and it’s fine until the next one. Bad programming and testing to not notice this. It crashed at least 10-12 times before I beat the game. You get about 6-6.5 hours of gameplay overall, although I wish you could speed up the character movement and skip some parts like the band’s song. If you’re a fan of the LucasArts/Monkey Island old games, then check it out. It’s not too hard though because you can solve almost everything via trial and error clicking the limited options for interaction in the environment. If it wasn’t so buggy and prone to crashes, I’d give it a higher rating. Kudos on the amazing visuals though.
Have enjoyed the game so far. Interesting story and beautiful graphics, funny characters and enjoyable dialogue. I play on an iPad 7th generation and at first had no crashing issues but later the game crashed only when entering the hotel. Which is interesting as I was able to enter the first time around. Troubleshooting, I turned off my VPN service and so far I am able to enter the hotel without crashing. I love puzzle type games and I’m not disappointed with this game! Update: finished the game and gave another star!! Really liked this puzzle game. I had no further issues with the game crashing after I turned off my VPN while playing. I’m not sure if this really was the issue in the first place but it worked for me.
I am in *love* with this game. It is drop dead gorgeous - I was rhapsodizing to friends about the bus winding up the hill during the opening credits, if that’s any indication. The way the opening credits/titles are displayed feels more like a feature film than a mobile game. The attention to detail - remember this is set, what, in the 60s? The font used for the chapters is spot on. It’s just so beautifully done...also, knowing a bit of German gave me a heads up on what is possibly in store. So why four stars? Because, like others, I cannot re-enter the Hotel without the app closing. Maybe I should not be going back in? I don’t think that’s the issue, but I hope it’s sorted soon because...did I mention I adore this game so far? Because I do. For the record, playing on new iPad mini 5, with PLENTY of storage. Anxiously awaiting a version update or instruction for how to carry on. Brilliant work, all! Update! Five stars. They must be working hard to stabilize things, because I finished a day ago. So love this game. Thank you for the brilliance and beauty! Now, please go make another. 😉
Just decided to take a chance with this one even though the reviews say it’s unplayable because of crashing. I have an iPad Pro with over 70 gigs of available RAM and it still won’t get past the opening screen before it crashes. Did I just throw $5 away? Fix your game and I’ll change my review. Edit: the new update fixes the crashing issue. Fun game now that I can play it
Changed my rating because the developers were pretty quick at responding to all the complaints of crashing with an update. Now that I have had a chance to play a little with this game, it does play like I was expecting and so far am very happy with it. I love the graphics and if you are like me as someone who tends to give up when I get stuck, they do provide a button to show hot spots which is very helpful and would usually be enough to help figure out what needs to come next. Thank you for fixing the bug so quickly!
At the time I saw this game, it had a fairly low rating solely because of an issue with where it would run. I think the developers have fixed that based on the update history. In any event it runs great on my iPhone XS. Playing through the pretitle is great and I am SO excited for the game. Also, THANK YOU to the developers for making a game that I can purchase and play, instead of a free to play title that will cost hundreds of dollars to enjoy. Please cut them a break on the RAM issue folks, I’m sure you can get a refund if the game doesn’t work for you.
I am not sure why other reviewers are having issues with crashes. I am early in the game but have had NO problems. The game is beautiful. Will update this review when I get further but so far it is absolutely excellent. Update: I am now in chapter 3 and I’ve had absolutely no problems. For those of you that are having problems, make sure that this game is supported on your device and that you have the most current operating system.
It runs on my phone, but that’s the only good thing. The interface is awkward, there is no real help or hints that I can see, and it’s buggy. In the first scene the character got stuck next to the picnic table continually walking into the wall under the lamp. Bizarre, she was half embedded into the wall, walking and going nowhere. This game really needed more testing some beta testing to get feedback. Also, some things don’t seem to work as expected, for example double click is supposed to “power walk” the character somewhere but on my phone I only get that pop up menu. Is that only for a computer version?
I truly enjoyed this game. I hade zero issues and ran into no glitches. The game play is fantastic and the story is very detailed. My only suggestion would be to allow players to access the post card map earlier on in the game. Walking back and forth between areas was time consuming and frustrating at times. Otherwise, the developers did a fantastic job!
Truberbrook is a very good game if your devices have the necessary gigs. of memory to run it. I bought the game for my iPad Gen.5 and it would load the title page, then crash. The App works fine on my iPhone X. Make sure before you purchase, that your device has the necessary memory to run the App. I would advise contacting Apple for a refund for not restricting this App for newer devices.
This is a fun point-and-click adventure game. The beautiful graphics, interesting story, and quirky characters really made the game for me. I found the puzzles range in difficulty but none are too hard to solve. I did have an issue with the game crashing often on random load screens. Closing the game out of my back ground apps solved the problem every time.
Thoroughly enjoyed this game! I got about 6.5 hours of game play. Graphics are insanely beautiful. Characters are fun. Puzzles make you think but not too hard. Everything can be solved by trial and error. Only thing I’d ask for is the ability to speed character movement, but didn’t cause me to love the game any less.
