I purchased my first Vivitar IP camera about 3 years ago and it has been quite reliable. I’ve had it in my garage and it has worked flawlessly throughout the winter and heat and humidity of summers. The built in infrared light works very well allowing the capture of images or real time stream even in complete darkness. The only bug I’ve noticed is occasionally it will lose link with my iPad or iPhone for unknown reasons. Power cycling solves the issue and these cameras just keep on going. I purchased a 2nd one for my living room and den. I really like the two way audio intercom feature also. Motion detector instructs camera to capture movement at the given time but I have seen where there is a latency between the capture and actual event in testing I have done. Overall this camera is a good value given the image quality and features that it has.
Work great. Had a little issue connecting but when they were connected they worked great. Some time they disconnect with the WiFi, a little annoying but if you turn it “on” the connection reconnects. Very happy with the lights. Would recommend for any dark room or for checking on little ones in a bedroom at nite.
I tried purchasing cloud storage but I can’t even use it and it took me forever to figure out how to cancel it. I tried finding a customer support email or number but the app doesn’t barely contains that, only has the feedback button and FAQs which don’t address the problem I’m having. Also, my screenshots and videos taken in the app never appear on my phone or anywhere else, which is ridiculous. I bought this camera for safety and security and the app can’t even save a simple recording or photo? Just honestly getting tired of the poor quality of Vivitar applications (I use another one “Smart Home Secuirty” by Vivitar for their Wifi enabled Leak Sensor and it’s even worse than this one, on top of the fact that I have to use a whole separate app for the same brand of device). Their devices are great by themselves, easy to set up, and they work without issue, but the Vivitar apps are seriously irritating and just not worth it.
I have purchased three of the Vivitar cameras, three of their water sensors, their doorbell camera, and it’s been very mixed and unreliable. Just bought a new camera & come to find out it requires a whole new app which doesn’t make any sense to me. I want all my cameras to be accessible from one source I don’t want to have to switch between multiple apps. these are OK for budget items. Don’t expect for them to last for more than a year and expect a lot of headaches trying to get them to connect to your net work. I really wish they would work all the time but they’re not reliable updates are slow to come the customer service people try to be helpful and I’ve actually been able to talk to human beings, which is nice but just can’t seem to get the things to be working and stable. I guess now I look at the more expensive solutions like ring. I have wasted hours and hours of trying to get the Vivitar equipment to work I just don’t think they can get the bugs out.
While the camera itself works well for a live feed, the app is missing most features that would be helpful if you’re truly using the camera for security purposes. For example, there is no way to instant rewind from the live feed, so when I hear a noise I have to rewind the entire day from midnight, which can take up to 5 minutes due to the clunkiness of the playback feature. This is a huge issue when you think there may be a security risk. Also, there should be a way to quick jump to a time of day or specific hour. I have not found the motion detection to be useful because it frequently sends false alarms.
Satisfied with my product, but this app could be way better. I like the features but I wish they would work more. My router is on the ceiling of my apartment and the feeder is literally right underneath it but it loads very slow and the range shows a little under 90%. It circles most of the time and you can’t even set the schedule when the feeder is offline which would be beneficial when I change something at night when it’s off. Wish the app had more features also.
I mean, if you want a camera that you can watch live feed with maybe 12 seconds 3 times a month, than this is the camera for you. I pay for the storage to keep videos, and it has maybe 3… 5 second long videos in the last 7 months. It’s mostly offline, for no reason. It can sit on the router, with your phone beside it, and after a short… 10-15 minutes, you get the best low quality video ever that freezes after a few seconds. Spend the extra money, and get something decent. Sorry, Vivitar, but for $50, I figured it would at least work 50% of the time, not 5%.
My only 2 complaints why I didn’t give it 5 stars is It doesn’t open up quickly, there’s a bit of lag time you must wait before it opens and The field of vision is not as wide and all encompassing as I would like so I would not recommend using it in a small location. Otherwise it’s all good. Since it is stationary and the wide angle field of vision is limited I would recommend adding movement like pan and tilt to improve its field of vision.
The software is still buggy, specially the video recorder. If I tried to to retrieve the video that was recorded, and I happened to go to the end of the video. It would say end of video and I got stuck there, cannot go anywhere until I exit the app, gat back. If I try to retrieve the video, I put pause while it retrieving the video, it stuck there until exit get back in. There is a lot improvements needs to be done. It is usable.
You know I paid $35 for this WiFi camera and I e got to say that for the money, you really can’t beat it. The camera works, the picture is clear, it’s got sounds and motion and the app works well and is easy to use! Hard to beat for the price!!
Purchased the Graco baby monitor that uses this app. The app is ok and the baby monitor is ok… what’s NOT ok is that the app disconnects from the camera after several hours, and then fails to reconnect without being closed out and reopened. That means I’m the middle of the night, the baby monitor just shuts off. Not ok, at all. Other annoying features: - the app won’t run sound in background, so you have to have it pulled up to have the baby monitor working. - the “white noise” or interference is loud so you can barely hear other sounds in the room over it.
I’ve had their pet feeder for a few years and never had a problem, but out of no where the notifications to my phone do not work and the app keeps turning off my set timings to dispense food. I’ve reconnected the device and setup all my notifications and dispense times again just for it to do it again a couple days later. What happened?? When will there be a fix? Now it’s become an inconvenience and I’m constantly checking to make sure my cat has food.
I have become more familiar with the setup of this equipment that I ever wanted to. Without a lot of explanation, you can setup daily, and it will fail and/or disconnect itself daily. You have to remove the unit from the wall and hold the reset button (on the back of the unit) and delete from the app, and then add it back, reset,re-pair, and re-initialize. I just have it on the wall and non-functioning to cover up the screw holes, till I can get something else.
As long as our WiFi signal is strong this camera is awesome! It has enabled us to keep an eye on our home while we are away on vacations. A great value for the money! We bought one to try and just purchased two more!
The older camera and app are superior in every way! I hate this app! I have SD cards and the cameras don’t format the sd card. I have a couple of the previous cameras and they format the card and the app is way better and easier to use don’t waste your money I’m about to sell these and get some of the older cameras! Endless problems with this app the cloud subscription is overpriced 5$ for each camera and the old app it was only a couple bucks a piece now they even raised that! If I don’t get help I will never use this brand again
This is the easiest camera app I’ve ever used!! So user friendly and very reliable, at home or out of town! The feed has only lost connection twice in a solid month, and so easy to reconnect and go about your business!! I will keep buying the Vivitar cameras!!! Great!!!!
I keep getting a timed out error for both of my genius pet feeder. It’s extremely frustrating! The loading bar fills up 75% of the way in 3 seconds and then pauses for 5 minutes. The device and router are literally 10 feet away from each other!! Error! (Update timed out. Please keep your device as close to the router as possible and try again.)
It’s a great app, but It doesn’t record during the day..
I love the app, but for some reason when I bought the highest package I could buy it doesn’t record during the day… it only stakes picture of the movement. . I would like if that can happen or maybe help me if I’m not doing something right .
This worked great before. Now no matter what I do, even after researching the internet I can’t get it to pick up any WiFi. It just sits there reading device is offline. When trying to change the phone number it tells me it’s not supported in this region even though I’m in the same region, only 7 miles from where it originally worked. Im a bit disappointed over this. Im glad the unit itself wasn’t very expensive…..
I like to be able to check on the family with the camera but the app needs to be updated for fast forwarding and playback time jump not just date also I am having problems with pulling up the motion detected time instead it jumps straight to current time
I have a dog who has separation anxiety, and he was getting scans and opens spots on his back from digging at this back the entire time i was gone. So now every time i leave i can see him and comfort him until I’m back with him. I love this little camera.
This system was installed to monitor an older loved one who stills lives at home. It’s been great to be able to check in on her at anytime of the day. Very reliable and the visual picture is very good. Thinking about get a system myself for home security.
We have an outdoor smart plug that worked for a while but now gets disconnected “due to device reset” every day or two. When we try to reconnect it the app’s scanner doesn’t find the device even though it is plugged in and the indicator light is blinking. I’m not exaggerating when I say I had to try the scan about 30 times before the app found the device. The app help section was not helpful. Such a waste, we will be buying something else.
The app used to work great - the product kept going offline. Now the product works good when you can finally get it to connect to your device HOWEVER the notifications will not work. Everything is set to receive notifications BUT the app still will not push them through to my device. FIX THIS!!!!! Per Apple this is a developer issue.
Really happy with the service life of this product and what it provides with out the huge investment. It was a plug and play ready system that didn’t need a tech degree to make work!
Cameras that disconnect from wifi as soon as you leave your house (rendering them completely useless) paired with an app that does absolutely nothing. What a crap service in every aspect. You can’t cancel subscriptions on the app, nor can you do a single productive thing that has to do with your home security. Just avoid this company, they’re not even trying.
Overall great! camera is very clear great picture app easy to use only issue connecting devices to app was little confusing with so many options of devices made it hard to find the right one due to it not auto finding
The cameras work great when they’re connected but for some reason they’re not wanting to work anymore and we’re having difficulty finding someone to contact to help us reinstall them or whatever we need to do to get them to start working again I would appreciate some to contact me back with a phone number or something
I think this camera is very good, but it does miss a lot of action around the edge of the view. It captures images if there is movement in the venter of the frame pretty well. The night vision is helpful too. Overall I am very satisfied with it.
It’s a lot of steps just for a lightbulb. My Bluetooth bulbs I just screwed in and had Alexa find them. I was done in less than a minute. This makes you download the app, and connect to only 2.4GHz. I have both running but the app can’t configure. Been trying for 30 minutes without success. Definitely worth the money to buy a Bluetooth bulb instead.
Maybe I need to up grade my cameras, because they don’t seem to pick up fast movement and all movement that occurs. The are very easy to access and view. I enjoy the user friendly app.
Everything was working correctly until a week ago we stopped getting notifications from the app, I’ve already checked settings on the website phone and I’m still getting notifications from all my other apps. Please fix the bug.
The camera works fine, but I can get the recording time to change to the correct time. It’s an hour difference. For the pice I am well please with what is captured.
I’m not sure if all the blame is to be on this app but it was surely a pain to connect the camera to it. On the other hand I had no problems using the app for about three days but now it just constantly force closes and I can’t view anything.
This app is Soo frustrating. Super easy to connect but half of the time it says network error please try again. And it takes me like 50 times to finally see my camera. And once i can see it only last for about a few seconds before it says the same thing over again. Doesnt pick up little motions. Just big ones like what around.
I’ve had this camera in my cold New England garage all winter and it has not failed yet. However I liked the previous version software better. It was more intuitive and connected to the iPad faster.
Pretty confusing app, and recording and screenshots don’t save to Photos
The manual says that when you use the record or screenshot features, the movie or photo will save to the Photos app. They do not. They just disappear to nowhere. Fix that! This fails whether recording live or from playback from the memory card.
This app is making me mad!!!!!! One minute it works the next it doesn’t. Support has never been helpful. When I didn’t pay for the subscription I could see small clips. But ever since I paid for a couple months then stopped it won’t show me anything that happened!!!!! It needs a lot of repairs!!!!
Totally dissatisfied with this outdoor camera would not connect to WiFi so I brought it inside thinking I could get it to connect being closer to the router. Nope the camera times out EVERY TIME b4 the connection is made. Now I’ve had this over 30 days & cannot return to retailer! Grrrr the most frustrating 2 1/2 hours I’ve ever spent on a WiFi connected product.
Since your lastest update rotate to full screen does not work. It looks to me you cared more about advertising and getting people to pay for your cloud service…. Why????? Than just get the product service right. Keep to the basics before you want people to spend more money. Thanks.
Have had in perfect operation for 5 weeks, now went offline and won’t reconnect after following all the steps in the app. I get all the correct responses from the app and device, up to connection. 2 feedback messages sent through troubleshooting, but no response.
The directions are so small they are unreadable. The app wasn’t much help either. We got the automatic pet food dispenser but unfortunately it only connects to 2.4GH WiFi and we, like everyone in our area, have newer 5 GHz. Didn’t say that on the box of course. Don’t buy from this company.
