Why aren’t I having my application accepted?

I’ve tried signing up for ages now and I still haven’t been able to get on the application. I get sent a confirmation mail and then that’s it, nothing else. What’s happening with Internations these days? Is it improving or deteriorating? I’d appreciate if my request to join get reviewed and accepted. Thanks :)

My opinion

I have been a long time member with this great organization, but for the past few years I have been quite disappointed with the events and quality of people attending them. The events I have been attending in Madrid lost their luster and high quality for some reason. In 2012 I attended multiple events where there was an attendance of a great selection of people mostly international, with a good range of ages with different professions. During the past 2 years I only see unfortunately low class people, sorry I don’t mean to target a particular group, but I don’t get to meet the quality people I got used to compared to the early days of this organization. In addition, instead of meeting a good selection of international people, I would say 80% of the people are mainly Spanish. Which is fine but this is no longer InterNations. Also, it seems that the group leaders or organizers are only targeting locations to gain personal benefits to collect some commissions, I don’t have any proof of that but I can see that the organizers have become fake and not really interested in introducing members to each other. I remember when I used to enter the event and the organizer would take my name and start introducing me to people all around. It is unfortunate that your organization has changed to become as such, I really like the concept and I do hope that changes will be made to make the experience as it used to be. Thank you.

No Sound For Notifications

I neither like this app or dislike it but it’s interesting to use so far. My main problem is that there are no App notification sounds for Apple iOS. That means that anytime I get a message, I have to actually go inside the App and look to see if I receive any messages. The notifications will show up but unless you're staring at your screen all day you wont know you received a message. There is absolutely no noise or sound. Can you please fix this so that people can hear the Sound and know when they receive a notification ? Also a Verification process would be nice. So you know who you are talking to. There are hundreds of profiles with no Profile pictures. This is catfiahing waiting to happen. Thank you

Visual appeal

The InterNations app is easy on the eye and has a good balance of information, images, and white space. One can easily search events and join various communities around the world to see other events taking place and remain connected with friends and acquaintances. The variety of activities is the thing of legend. I only wish there were a smoother interface translating time zones across the event registration & attendance process with fewer steps between. Use of third party portals like eventbrite only add to the confusion because their reminders don’t sync with the world clock. And do it frequently happens that I get a two or more hour reminder after the event has ended.

Unsafe practice

I am writing because I am very concerned about the process of becoming an Internations member. To be more specific, I would hope something can be done to discourage scammers from joining this community. I have been contacted by a gentleman who has three different names but his profile picture is the same on all three profiles. His names are: Diego Fernando , Wilson Henderson, and Kent Mark. Each one has given the exact same story about being Puerto Rican but living in Norway, having 1 daughter and being a widower. The first one tried his hardest to get me to send him money and at that point I blocked him. Please let me know what can be done if anything to discourage this kind of abuse of your site and community. Regards Joyce Bunch

Don’t join!

Internations is a shady org. They make it very hard to cancel your membership and will send threatening emails for not maintaining a current credit card on file. This is a scam organization that provides next to no service (they rely on volunteers in country to organize things) and tries to lock you into payments with the inability to get out. They don’t even let you downgrade a membership, which shows you how shady they are. If you’ve already joined, I recommend canceling your membership right away, before they turn into a a debt collection agency (which seems to be the only actually paid staff they have).

Dark Pattern Scam

It’s straight up a dark pattern scam. Tried to charged my card without notifying me. Only because the payment was blocked by my card company did they email me to tell me my payment was overdue. When i refused to pay, they literally said they’d send debt collectors. It’s a pattern. They have it built into their t&c’s and they know exactly what they’re doing. If you are charged without warning, PLEASE, PLEASE CONTACT YOUR CREDIT CARD COMPANY or pay pal or whatever service you use. Their fraud investigators will deem the charge illegal regardless of what internations t&cs say and internations has no legal leg to stand on. They are completely aware of this. Do not be scammed or intimidated like I was.

Buyer beware!

If you upgrade to Albatross, you’re stuck! There’s no button to downgrade back to Basic, you can’t delete your account unless you downgrade your membership, and it’s supposed to automatically renew at the end of the period you paid for. Their customer service just gives you the runaround, they keep sending you to Apple to fix membership billing issues, even though it’s InterNations’ app and they got the cash regardless of how it’s been paid (whether on iTunes or credit card). Don't upgrade your membership unless you want to be stuck in a loop you can’t get out of even if you want to delete your profile!

Incompetent developers

So many errors using this app and my friends and group members report the same issues. Just one example is when people try to sign up for a group event, even when they are logged in as a consul! Another longstanding problem is when replying to an message from another member by clicking in an email to launch the messages app, when I click send after writing my response I will get an error every time. Why does this happen? Incompetent developers, I say. So I have a hell of a problem getting people to pay for membership when so many are unhappy with the services. It creates a huge headache for me as a group consul.

Bad UI, cannot downgrade membership

InterNations isn’t intuitive at all. When you follow the instructions to downgrade your membership, the links take you in circles. Once you follow the text links to Login & Basic Data (why can’t you change your membership level under “Membership”?) you’ll scroll down to see your membership level, but no option to downgrade. When I emailed them to give me a refund mere hours after they charged me for a service I haven’t used and don’t want, they cited terms and conditions instead of owning up to making it impossible for users to cancel their paid membership.

Highly DO NOT Recommend

I joined the trial version for a month and wasn't that impressed with the level of options and events to take advantage of. Messaging members around you (and sometimes they are nowhere near you) seems to be the only value. They app Membership setting to cancel free trial is not under the "Membership" page. It's hidden in "Login & Basic Data" This is such a scammy move to hide the cancelation option and is just a joke in today's App landscape. Clearly a shortsighted company that doesn't intend on serving a community long term. Don't waste your time or money!

Why so many bad reviews?

Before installing the apps I saw the reviews and decided not to install it. But I met couple of other members who didn’t have problems with the app so I installed the app and haven’t had any issues with it. The reviews should be about the app not other stuff related to internations.

Terrible Company, do not sign up!!

I signed up and tried to cancel the subscription but the website almost purposely makes it hard to cancel and navigate. I was charged and was finally able to cancel on the same day. I tried reaching out and everyone just sent me nonsense about how people love this policy of automatic payments. No one ever tried to help me and didn’t care. They just sent me emails that said practically nothing hoping I would go away. This company is criminal and extremely negligent. I also tried to use their services and all I got was spam from fake people on the internet. BEWARE!

SCAM APP 95$ CHARGE

They give you 30 days fee trial, almost impossible to unsubscribe.i have tried to reach support sending email and requesting their help to unsubscribe, nobody reach you, or better they contact me today after 10 days I request help. I have explain situation to jasmine, i not have a job I’m out of money to buy food. How I’m going to spend 95$ for a language exchange app I have used maybe 2 times in a month?! CONGRATULATIONS YOU HAVE STEAL 95$ TO A PERSON THAT ALMOST NOT HAVE MONEY TO BUY FOOD DURING A COVID PANDEMIC, IM HOPE YOU TEAM ARE PROUD OF IT!!! I WILL GO SENT EVERY PICTURE OF EMAIL I HAVE SENT AND RECIPE. DONT FALL HERE PLEASE!! MANY PEOPLE REVIEW SAME PROBLEM!!

Still needs improvement

I’m excited about joining InterNations because the group where I live comes recommended, but the app needs some tweaks in the functionality of setting and editing the profile. In particular I need to change what I’ve listed as “interests” and there’s no way to edit it. Also, setting the cities you’ve lived in is missing some ease-of-use. Looking forward to future updates!

Questionable Business Practices

The tablet app is basically an iphone app that you can scale up - it shows a serious lack of effort. In addition, the company uses what many would consider a sketchy business model, where they automatically force you into a renewal even if you change your card. Once you have an outstanding "balance", you are physically blocked from cancelling your subscription until it is paid, meaning they bill you forever for services you can't unsubscribe from. You might not want to trust this company.

Awesome way to meet nice and exited people!!

Socializing and going out with InterNations groups and Events during my years in Buenos Aires give me a sense of cosmopolitan and exotic way to mingle and knowing exited and nice people from all over the world !! A lot of fun and happy times !! I can’t wait to go back to normal !! Thank you Daniela

Great networking app with high quality customer services

As per today’s time, this app/site has minimum Spammers or fake profiles. Because of their customer service and quick action. Most people are real and professionals.

Do not join!

I’ve paid too much and received next to nothing other than a couple of articles. I’m hesitant to go to any events because creepy men keep on contacting me through its network. The app is worthless and doesn’t work. Also, it tried to automatically renew but couldn’t because of my expired credit card. Now Internations is sending me nasty emails saying I agreed to automatically renew and I better pay up or else, even citing a paragraph that I “agreed” to. There are better resources for expat info that’s free.

Strong network

It's a perfect app for networking with relevant people. The design and interface of Internation are very standard, less chaotic, authentic, and convenient. That's why people who appreciate simplicity find it appealing. I believe Internation will continue to improve the interconnection between members. Soon, I'll upgrade to Albatros. All the best.

SCAM SCAM SCAM!!!

They trick you into free trial, send you tons of spam notifications about their events and charge your card for a year commitment without any alerts that you’re going to be charged. They will then turn you over if you ask to refund this charges despite you’re not using the app and you don’t need the membership. Don’t even try to download this app! They don’t care about you after they get your money and you will never see them back!

Group leader was discriminatory

I joined InterNations as a paid member for about a year or so in order to be able to attend the sub-group events. Unfortunately, one of the sub-group leaders/volunteers was very rude and discriminated against me. When I sent my concerns to customer service, they did nothing to remedy the situation. I quickly canceled my membership after that. I am not comfortable being in an organization with exclusionary practices and the inability to receive feedback or take corrective action.

Improvement

The app is good but would suggest improvements such as not making me decline an event in order for the notification to go away. I like to manage the app like email - if I see new notifications I check them, but may not be ready to decline an event. It would be better if the alert went away once I have viewed it instead of after declining it

Don't bother

Works and has functionality like the web site. It's not an app, appears to be the mobile web site embedded into an app. This causes the following two issues 1) it constantly logs out so I have to sign in again (after every update it seems). 2) no face id/touch id support from the start. If this was capability was available perhaps the first issue wouldn't be so bad? Frankly don't bother using it. just go to their mobile site as the logging out won't happen there as much and you can use your passwords manager in safari to easily login. Ps. In response to developers, if you can't make a real app just don't bother. This is a waste of money for the organization. they're better off just improving their mobile page than sinking money into a non app.

Scam horrible business DO MOT GET TRAPPED

Just now Internations is a scam Internations is a scam. They pretty much upgraded me to an annual membership without my consent because I did not cancel on the same week. After disputing the charges they I even asked them to charge the monthly fee but they insisted on annual only. $83 was worthless services and terrible customer service. Meet up is free and way better outcome and choices than this I’m going to rate them in every app out there as a Scammers and worthless business.

Internations membership RIP-OFF!

This App and organization should be avoided at all costs!! My membership automatically renewed for three years on the credit card I provided. They never sent a notice or reminder to opt-out. This year my card has expired and they are telling me I must pay or they will forward the invoice to a collection agency. What a SCAM!!! Look up their ratings on any of the many review sites and you will see hundreds of similar complaints. BEWARE!!

Time of international events

I have singed up for some of the cyber events that are a great option for a pandemic period but also in the future we could be a great platform for global events. There is only an observation to those event, I wish the app was able to adjust the timing to your local time zone. Thank you though I can see great improvements lately . Keep up the great work

Scammers

I can’t believe this service. I was unable to log back into my account on the app after trying the app as an Albatross member, did not get ANY help or contact from InterNations until AFTER I was charged the “non-refundable” yearly membership of $100+. How convenient for you to let me get access the day after being charged. I will never forget this and will rue this app until the day I die

You cancelled all events yet I’m still paying

Internations have cancelled all events through May, yet they’re not offering people to suspend their memberships. My subscription also runs through the end of May, there are no events and I’m still paying for it. I have contacted the app and requested support more than a week ago and no one has reached out to me so far. This is terrible service and the app always has glitches.

Terrible layout and UI/UE

I have enjoyed being an albatross member for 4 years and have many expat friends, but this new version of the app is terrible! It’s overwhelming, too much information at once and I have no idea what events my friends are going to and can’t interact & coordinate with them easily. The previous version wasn’t perfect but the simplicity of it made it easy to navigate. Now I don’t even want to log in!!! #awful

Start up failure

The application was working fine the first couple of weeks. Now, it doesn’t even open at start up. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it, however I kept getting the same results. Mind you this started happening after I purchased the full subscription. Not sure if this might be a scam to take your money. Starting to think that.

Pros and Cons

I definitely love the idea of this app- I think it fills a niche space that a lot of expats are looking for, and I’ve made a lot of friends and networked through it. With that said, the layout is cryptic at best and I’ve struggled a lot with the chat functions. If the app was designed better, I think it would be perfect

Scam artists. Avoid.

Don’t ever use this app. I got a new credit card and then they couldn’t charge me anymore. Then they start threatening me with legal action and reporting me to debt collection agencies if I don’t pay them the measly subscription fee that was missed. They should just cancel my premium acct and move on. I’ve never seen another app so aggressive. Scam artists just trying to squeeze every dime out of you. Please avoid.

A disaster for an app!

This is by far the worst app I have on my phone and the only one where its problems are constantly on the rise! So many functionalities that don’t work: adding an event to your calendar doesn’t work (it used to!), there is always a notification banner on the app with some irrelevant number listed on it. I have written about this problem but never heard back.

Not Worth It

InterNations wants so much money, yet there are barely any events, and the events they do have are mostly lame. The events are unorganized, and if you ask a question, sometimes the organizers won’t answer you, which is rude. Not worth the money. You are not able to delete or edit messages you write on the event page, which is annoying.

Tablet form factor needs work

The tablet form of this app operates like a phone app. Needs some extra attention. For example, it doesn’t support landscape mode. This means you can’t type using a keyboard in an iPad Pro. Non-starter for me, as most of what I’ll be doing in the app is typing.

The worst application ever installed !

I have no idea why on earth an app should decline my signing up application form for many times while am a user like many other ones installing this app for using it . It erases my messages as I’m writing them

If you multitask, like I do, it doesn’t let you switch to another app and then come back to it. When you come back, it starts up like it’s just been opened. Whatever you were doing is lost. Two stars, not one, because it’s great OTHER THAN THAT ONE THING. But seriously?!

Worst application

This is the worst application I have ever downloaded from the appstore. It works only 1 out of ten times I open it. I am getting logged out all the times and can't login back. It displays errors. Now I am stuck on the blank white screen. The only thing that works great is the starting animation and I guess all the development time of the app spent there

Broken App

This app is a mess. I’ve always had a few problems here and there but the last update has rendered it completely unusable. Nothing loads properly, if a page loads at all. I can’t even add my invites to my Wallet anymore because whatever page clicking on the email link redirects you to in the app itself never loads.

Super buggy

Nothing but bugs from the get-go. In-app membership upgrade didnt work - had to get tech support to fix manually. Adding places lived, it created duplicates but you can’t delete them (gives an error). Can’t add work places at all. And that’s just setup! Expecting more hilarity once I actually try to use the app for its intended purpose.

Membership Declined

After listing the places where I used to live and applied for membership, I think it was only after a few seconds I got an email that it was declined. Did not know so far based on which criteria it was declined. This app doesn’t even worth a one star rating.
