Sonicare 9700 DiamondClean Smart is the best of ALL-TIME!
I bought the original Sonicare model in 2015 on Black Friday and loved it. I decided to upgrade after seeing the Sonicare 9700 DiamondClean Smart on sell at a good price on Black Friday of this year (2019). There is not one con about this product. It’s all positives... There are three features that I love about this product: The Phillips Sonicare app shows your how to brush without going fast, or applying pressure to the bristles making them last a little longer. The second is get a decent amount of bristles for your Sonicare for the amount of money I paid. But I also got the deal on Black Friday too as well... Finally, the scraper for your tongue is a game changer. Not only does your teeth get a good cleaning, but so does your tongue lol. The best product for your teeth and mouth, and it’s not even close. I would still buy this at full price and would recommend this to ANYONE who likes having super clean teeth.

Overall good, but needs many refinements
Ultimately, this app does exactly what it’s supposed to - provide paced brushing routine to help achieve a better clean and market other Sonicare products to the consumer. My gripe is that this app seems like an afterthought rather than a priority to the brand. Firstly, it has been almost 6 months since the release of the iPhone X and yet, there has been no update to the user interface to complement this device. Next, from my experience with my DiamondClean 9700, it seems that there is only communication in one direction (brush -> app), not the other way around. When everything goes according to plan, the usage of the app is clean and polished. The issue is when completing a touch up - the app will day “All Done” but the brush will continue a regular cleaning without a care in the world what the app thinks. Also, why doesn’t the whitening cycle allow for extra cleaning? Once it’s done, it’ll complain about missed spots but provide no way to retouch these areas. This could be fixed if the app could control the brush. Finally, I wish there was a way for the brush to log cleanings when the app isn’t open and then transfer that information on the next app connect. I’m not sure if it’s a memory constraint within the brush, but having offline logging would be great for those times when it is inconvenient to go grab the phone.

Needs improvement to be truly useful
This app is good but it has the potential to be so much better. The biggest issue I have with it is that the “tips” really have absolutely nothing to do with the user’s behavior. I got this brush in September and started using it in the middle of a week. The first week I started using it I started on a wednesday. That means that since then, the only “tip” I ever get is it says I only brush my teeth once a day and it shows my average at 1.4 times a day….because on week one I didnt use it the first three days. In other words, IT NEVER UPDATES based on user feedback. That part is a big fake….it is trying to make you think it is updating based on the user’s use…but I have brushed my teeth two even three and four times a day since that first week and yet the “tip” shows me that I should brush my teeth more than once a day and the average has never updated past 1.4 times (based on that first week). I even attempted to reset the data and that proved impossible. The tips seems to only be there to make you think its monitoring your individual behavior but it isn’t…its just there to capture data and sell brush heads. I wouldnt have an issue with that if it was accurate but the fact that it’s inaccurate makes it pretty lame. The app should definitely be improved.

Good but could be so much better
The app often does not recognize where in the mouth you are brushing. For example, in touch up, where the zone inside is yellow, I am brushing on the inside, yet the app is highlighting the outside area that is already a clean white. I can appreciate if the device does not think that I have brushed adequately, but when it does not register that any brushing has taken place, it is quite frustrating. Called technical support and went through a series of resets with no improvement. They then sent a new handle (under warranty), but still having same issues. It is a great concept and very good incentive to good oral care, I just wish that the bugs could get sorted out! Firmware and app are both up to date... This is an update to previous review. The solution to my problem was found in another review—-the toothbrush must be level for the feedback to the app to be accurate. The only way to achieve this is to have the phone mounted in front of you on the mirror. My husband’s Oral B toothbrush came with this mount, which he does not use. It works like a charm and should be part of the package when buying the brush along with instructions to mount the phone and keep the toothbrush level! I would give this 5 stars, if the mount were included.

Love the toothbrush. App is constantly changing, and not always for the better.
I don’t mind change, as long as it isn’t just for the sake of change. Version 10 appears to be all about analytics..... but there doesn’t appear to be a place to tell the app that you changed your brush head. Yes, you can see how many sessions you have left before you are due to change the head. But, what if I wanted to change it ahead of time because I used it a few times when the app didn’t connect to the handle. How is something like that missed in the QA process? My wife and I have two of the exact same model handle and phone. My wife has to go through a soecific process to connect her handle with her phone. If she follows the same process I do with my handle and phone, the app doesn’t recognize that the handle is on and ready to brush. Instead of working on a fancy dashboard, why not make sure you don’t lose critical functionality between versions and fix what should be an easy pair of the handset to the phone. My Bluetooth speakers have never failed to connect to my phone, yet an advanced toothbrush has issues and even sometimes causes the app to crash during the pair process. Are we new to Sonicare? Nope, been using them for 12+ years.

Not intuitive - unimpressive for Phillips
I have been using Sonicare for over 20 years easily. Great toothbrush. I’ll use it as long as they’re made. But this review is about the app. If this is something they will continue to push then it will need major improvements: 1) I was in the dental field for years so I assumed the quadrants reflected opposing based on what the dds saw. I was wrong. 2) I’m also a lefty. 3) it forces you to start on what it tells you to start on. Not ok. 4) when you start it doesn’t pick up immediately so when you’re finished it’s still “yellow” which leaves your mouth “unclean”. 5) it switches so quickly but doesn’t pick up your movement as you’re moving so when you push harder it yells at you that you’re “pushing too hard”. 6) you have to look down at your phone to keep up or you fall behind, thereby dripping toothpaste all over your counter tops or shirt. 7) even at your best, you’re still not at 100%. I could go on, but I’m actually bored with this review. I will, however, say, the new toothbrush head design leaves my teeth a lot cleaner. I’ve always brushed and flossed my teeth twice a day at least. I like the technology and I will say the app has told me I’ve been brushing too hard and too fast.

Recent Updates Make App Crash
This app is, on the surface, great. Especially given that when working properly, it provides real-time and detailed feedback on where and how you should be brushing, as well as creating a record of your brushing activity. However, recent updates to the app have all but made it impossible to use. Beginning a few months ago, the app started to take far longer to load, crash somewhat more frequently, have trouble connecting to the brush via Bluetooth and inaccurately record where in your mouth you are brushing. With the more recent updates, it began crashing consistently in the middle of brushing, and now, it is impossible to open the app at all, rendering it completely useless. Hopefully, the team at Philips can address these software/firmware issues, because again, when working well, this is a great and innovative product/app pairing. Additionally, Philips introduced auto-refill ordering through the app a few versions back. However, they do not offer replacement tongue scrapers that are the same as the one that came with the brush originally, or even ones that are compatible with the app/brush. This is the case both with the auto-refill and their online store. It would be nice if they could remedy this.

Brush is amazing! The app is disappointing! No Health app support!
The Sonicare brushes are probably some of the best if not the best brushes I have ever had. Unfortunately, their app does not live up to that standard of quality. I have lots of respects for the developer there is some fantastic ideas here but the design is very dated and the lack of support is apparent. My brush constantly disconnects from the app, and sometimes even after connecting. My brushing is not being reflected on the app. Which means there is a definitely a connection bug. Additionally, this app lacks total support for Apple Health. There is no way for you to have all your records to share with your dentist in one place. I keep everything on Apple Health, but unfortunately this app does not send data over to be recorded which can easily be done by using healthkit, and the reason why I bought a smart brush in the first place. Lastly, I have a major issue with the design of the app itself. The app has tabs that are completely unnecessary and makes it hard to get to the information that is relevant and useful. Some aspect of the app are beautifully design however. Overall, the brush is fantastic but the app leaves a lot to be desire. It is slow, clunky, very very buggy, and has zero support for Apple Health to the point where I never use it. Very disappointing!

So much potential but still so mediocre
I used the Sonicare app with a previous toothbrush but ultimately abandoned it because the app was poor at identifying where I was brushing. It didn’t work with some features of my brush. With a new brush, I revisited it and have noticed some improvements. It still has issues recognizing where brushing is occurring. No amount of changing the angle or pressure will result in it showing activity in certain areas. But, what’s worse is the negative reinforcement it uses now. The app has a default message “ It seems you are only brushing once per day, for less than 2 minutes each time...”. It doesn’t matter if your average is greater than 2 minutes, it still indicates the same message until you brush the second time in the evening. The reminder should be split into three messages: one for when brushing less than 2x daily, one for brushing less than 2 min on average (which is nearly impossible considering all modes on the brush are a minimum of 2 minutes), and one for both. This is just one example. There is so much potential in an app like this, but sadly, Philips continues to maintain an overall average product.

Doesn’t record all the brushing times
I’ve found the app misses my brushing times about 25% of the time. I go through the brushing cycles using the app to time each of the areas so it seems to track that I’m brushing but at the end it doesn’t record that I brushed at all and I can’t go in to override the miss. In addition it misses sections of my mouth that I’ve already brushed by showing it in yellow as though I missed that area. When I go back to brush over that area it records it fine, like it should’ve done initially. At this point the only thing the app is good for is as a timing device. Everything else is hit & miss but not reliable. Too bad. To update my previous review, the issues I’ve noted have gotten worse rather than better. I brush 2 times every day but despite the app tracking, as much as it tracks accurately, my brushing event when I’m finished it doesn’t show that I brushed at all. I get these missed brushing events at least 3 out of 7 days so not an impressive tracking record. I’ve not heard from anyone at Sonicare addressing this & I’m sure this isn’t unique to me. As I said before, the app is just a complicated timing device. You could use a stop watch as effectively. Updates don’t make a difference. It’s a shame.

Great
Update: I still love the toothbrush, HATE the app. Now when I tap the app it takes a solid minute to pop up. It doesn’t actually teach the age of the toothbrush head based on wear but rather time. If you pop a new head on and don’t use the app the app has no way of knowing if it’s a new head or the same old head. I was under the impression that there was a sensor that can tell the wear of the brush... NO it doesn’t. The app itself is also inconsistent... sometimes it works sometimes it doesn’t. It definitely doesn’t know where you are in your mouth. Not worth the extra money. I barely use the app anymore. Also, if you happen to be using the app you have to stay in it while you’re brushing. There’s no checking the news or weather or toggling between apps bc it will stop the progress on your brushing. Great toothbrush, great app. There have been a few connectivity issues which I’m not crazy about given I’ve had it for less than a week but, technology, right. On the other hand almost $300. The other thing, it would be nice if the app could sense that you’re not brushing where you’re supposed to be brushing and ding you. I moved to the opposite side of my mouth just to test it....nada.

Nice toothbrush, horrible app
The app crashes more times per day than the number of times I brush my teeth. And I brush at least twice a day. As an attempt to stop the frequent crashes, I decided to delete the app, then re-install it. My data is stored in the cloud. What harm could that do? I’ll tell you. I lost the last four weeks of data. I like the toothbrush but hate the app. Updated review: The app continues to crash but not as often. Takes a long time to load the app when it actually runs. I have to log back in to my account from time to time, which is annoying. Oh, and I can’t update the firmware of my toothbrush. I get the update notice daily, but the update fails every time. My current firmware version is 2.4.1. The update firmware version is 2.11.1. Another update: I contacted support through the Philips website. They stepped me through the factory reset process for my DiamondClean toothbrush. After the reset, I was able to update the firmware. However, the firmware update stalled at 99%. I let the app sit with it showing 99% complete for an hour, then I canceled the update. The app then said the firmware on the toothbrush handle was up to date. So the update was successful, but the app didn’t realize the final one percent was complete.

Rip off with privacy concerns
Rarely have I ever felt so ripped off. Despite being a long time loyal Philips Sonicare user, the depths of a money grab and privacy concerns have never been as apparent as with this product and software. First, $300+ for a toothbrush?? What the heck was I thinking! I was much happier with my less than $100 Sonicare toothbrush. What have I received for spending more than $200 extra? I get an app that does a poor job of detecting which teeth are being brushed (and Philips tech experts had no solution), Philips pushing to allow location services to be turned on (for a freaking toothbrush?! NO WAY!), notification services to be turned on (again NO WAY for a stupid toothbrush), and the biggest money grab of all time? The ability for the app to detect and automatically sense when the brush needs replacing and ordering replacement brushes. DO NOT use this service! Toothbrushes are meant to last for 6 months between replacing but the app insists that the brush be replaced in only 2 months! Give me a break Philips and nice try! I’m absolutely disgusted and disappointed at the over reach and greed of Philips. This has me considering other toothbrush makers going forward. Something I never would’ve considered previously to using this app.

Bluetooth app is worthless
Like all Sonic toothbrushes, this one does a fantastic job cleaning my teeth. There are new brush heads and new modes although I was always happy with my old ones. My last one didn’t last as long as my first one so I believe their is planned obsolescence so they can sell you the new and improved version. I was excited about the Bluetooth app that tracks your brushing, monitors pressure and “scrubbing” and shows you on the screen areas you missed, theoretically. The Bluetooth function is so spotty it makes the app worthless. It will tell me I have the wrong brushhead loaded when I haven’t changed the head or the setting. It shows me missing areas of my mouth I didn’t miss and wants me to brush them again. It fails to recognize that the toothbrush is on and ready to brush and records nothing. It loses connection all together and makes me go through the entire setup process again. It tells me to install new firmware, but when I turn on my brush, it says it’s up to date. I have quit using it all together out of frustration. Stick with a cheaper model. The app is not worth the extra money.

Update: Loses connectivity regularly - FIXED
Original review: My toothbrush loses Bluetooth connectivity regularly which is quite annoying as it was one of the cool features that printed me to get this model. I have no idea why it is so challenged when Bluetooth connectivity has become akin to a table stakes feature on every device with a chip and a plug. There has to be an update that will stabilize this other than asking me to forget and re pair my toothbrush every time this happens. UPDATE: Tech support responded to my original review above. They suggested deleting and reloading the app. Skeptically I did this and it appears to have worked. I’ve been waiting on this update for some time to pass thinking this may be a short term fix leading to cycles of delete-reinstall-delete-reinstall but this didn’t happen. It’s been stable and connecting since I did this. Hopefully not jinxing it with this review update but wanted to share for people having similar issue. Uninstall completely and redownload.

Inaccurate.
Tracking only works when you brush with the app, and even then, it’s completely inaccurate. I’ve been following directions for a week and the app shows I’ve missed 3/4 of my mouth when brushing, even though I’ve been getting a “complete clean” message every time I brush. Also, the app constantly crashes and restarts even while I’m brushing. I bought the toothbrush to use with the app and better my oral health, but as of now, I’ve spent $270 on a regular toothbrush with a useless app. Following my review, I got a response from a developer telling me to connect the brush to the app. I clearly stated saying that I’ve been brushing with the app. So, how else am I supposed to connect it to the app, I’m already brushing with the app open, giving me instructions on how to brush. I was also told to contact customer support, which I did a while back, and I discovered that even the customer support associates didn’t know how to properly connect/when to connect the brush to the app. So I’m currently lost as to what to do when both Philips, and it’s developers don’t seem to know exactly how their own product works. For the last time, developers that keep telling me to connect my toothbrush to the app, MY TOOTHBRUSH IS CONNECTED.

Tech App Health
I like my new Sonicare Digital, it was a replacement after my previous brush stopped working. I was disappointed to find that I would have to purchase the travel charger separately. My previous brush came with the travel charger, apparently this not standard with series 9300. As this is designed to work with an app, including the travel charger should have a given. The item is very expensive I purchased it from Kohl’s on sale and received a $20 rebate. I like the app it tells you what areas you need to focus on, but it’s not intuitive beyond the amount time it’s programmed to record brushing in each section. For example, if I brush out of order it does not record that, which will give you an inaccurate report. Also I checked no, I did not floss accidentally, but I was not able to correct it. My mouth and teeth feel clean after using the brush. I noticed that if I used it twice a day I didn’t have any plaque build up, but if I used it only once a day I noticed a little build up. The two rating is for the lack of consideration for the including the travel charger and the lack of intuitiveness with the app, as discussed earlier.

Handle rocks, and the app? MEH!!
I’ll borrow part of a phrase used on this app. Almost a decent of an app to call it good but you’re this far off!! The brush handle is hands down twice as good as my old Sonicare brush. The app on the other hand I continue to get no data posted on one or more sides of my teeth during a full session. I’m so sick of reading “almost clean” when I know I did the area just as the others!! Phillips won’t like hearing this but they need to make this app more for the user than for satisfying some old corporate mule that knows nothing about software to recommend what categories should be considered a fixed non changeable field and other fields that could be adjusted to better match the user. Either make some drastic changes or at least let others have a chance at developing alternative apps that would be fair. I’m sure Phillips doesn’t even see the whole picture on a success some of their products could be just by tweaking a couple of details. As a big fan of their products it’s fair to say it becomes less and less dealing with this type of controlisms implemented into the products

Awesome but needs a couple tweaks
I love this toothbrush and app as it has transformed my oral care. There are a couple tweaks that could make the app next level and they aren’t big things 1) It would be nice to have a pause feature. My mouth gets so full, I would like to pause at the upper half of my mouth, spit and then reengage the lower half. A pause the timer feature and sensing would be awesome 2) a countdown timer per zone or something that makes switching sections more obvious. I lose 3-5 seconds sometimes because I am happily brushing away in one zone when it should be in another zone 3) recognize when I am in other zones. If I clean completely and then go back to hit a spot that needs work, it would be nice if the app/toothbrush recognized that 4) give the option to delete sessions. I have a couple sessions that count as brushing when all I did was turn on the brush to update firmware or check something 5) If a spot is still showing yellow after the chance to go back on it (yellow makes it look disgusting and feel dirty by the way), give the option to focus on that area so the entire mouth is white/clean With those changes, I think it would be a much better experience, especially the pause feature because I end up with toothpaste and spit everywhere because I can’t take the time to pause and spit in my brushing That said, highly recommend both the product and app

Professional results.
This is my second Sonicare, the first I got maybe 20 years ago. It came with 2 handles, it was the classic style with the screw on heads. One handle actually died after a few years, the second lasted until maybe a year or so ago, the handle never died but the brushing intervals became erratic so it was time to move up to this current model, can’t remember the name but it comes with the charging cup that you can also use to rinse your mouth with. It also has a more fashionable look than the former plastic charger. As far as performance, these brushes really have your teeth feeling like you got a professional deep cleaning, especially when paired with a waterpik session or a good flossing. And although I have had some minor work done over the years, I always get a great report from the dentist so I know it works. I highly recommend this brush.

Annoying app targeted for marketing
I had hoped for really cool features when getting the app/toothbrush. Instead got annoying tips that do not change or there is a way to disable it. Right in front of your eyes: “30% of Americans don’t brush for ... blah blah“ how many times do I need to read this before I start to brush?! I be seen it once, so I really need to see it every time I brush?! So annoying :/ Also I have two iDevices and when I used one for few days than another one and back to first one, my progress data would not transfer instead it showed another toothbrush (but I only have one) so the progress is missing some days on one and some on the other toothbrush. What’s the point? Also it has a lot of menu options but seriously, there is nothing useful, mostly it is just links to buy more products or how to care for your teeth. Nothing really that you would need to know ... after all, it is huge disappointment and waste of money. Would not recommend at all ... the only exception: there is nothing better so hopefully those guys will rethink and redesign it so it makes much more sense and would encourage you to use it!

Won’t connect to toothbrushe
I’ve been using my Diamondclean smart for over a month now without the app. It just won’t connect. My iPhone 10 can’t find the brush and on my wife’s Galaxy s9 plus it see the brush but when trying to connect I get “ unable to connect please check other devices settings and try again”. I have tried everything. I keep Bluetooth on only on the phone that I’m trying to use the app on since I heard the brush will get confused if more than one phone have the App and Bluetooth is on. I have restarted both phones and sell as the brush . I have deleted and reinstalled the app. I have put the brush literally touching the phone nothing. The brush leaves your mouth feeling amazing. But I just can’t connect. I have also tried my sons LG phone and still nothing. If I would of known the app was gong to be useless i would of purchase a different brush. I also called customer support and they are useless. All they did was tell me to delete the app & reinstall . Restart the phone. And to make sure I’m not retarded I was asked if I was sure my Bluetooth was on.

My Teeth Feel SO Clean—I love this toothbrush!
My sweet boyfriend got me this Sonicare — he’s a dentist & highly recommended this product. I had a different electric toothbrush before this sonicare, but he INSISTED I try it. I was skeptical that it would be ANY different or better than what I was already using. I was pleasantly surprised when I felt the results! My teeth feel INCREDIBLY clean after I used it. Surprisingly, they were more clean than they had been with other electric toothbrush! My teeth really feel a LOT cleaner after I use the sonicare. Needless to say, my boyfriend was right— at least this time around😉! I also LOVE the app. I love documenting my flossing, mouthwash use, etc. It keeps you accountable and shows you the work you put in toward your oral health. I’ve never had an app that lets me document my oral health, so I really appreciate having this app. The product has great technology! When I’m brushing the teeth while using the app, it follows where I’m brushing. & it’s very precise! It always lights up exactly where I am brushing. I really appreciate the feedback (eg— too much pressure, missed this area). If you want a toothbrush with great technology AND a brush that really does its job taking care of your teeth, I highly recommend this product. I think many of you will love that clean feeling and feel assured you’re taking great care of your oral health!

It’s great, My dentist marvels how nice my teeth are since I got this fabulous toothbrush!
UPDATE: I found that if I open the app and let it load BEFORE I even touch the handle, it connects perfectly every time. My dentist marvels how nice my teeth are since I got this fabulous toothbrush. *ORIGINAL REVIEW * This app really showed me the correct way to brush. Unfortunately, it rarely works when I need it to. I removed and reinstalled the app. I turned off other Bluetooth devices that I thought might be preventing it from connecting. I tried installing it as a new handle. It still is the most frustrating app that I have on my iPhone X. It actually worked 3 times in a row the other day! Right now it’s just searching and searching. This is a $300 tooth brush with a 10 cent app. Let us know when you get good programmers and good quality control.

Edited from 3 stars to 4
Gum Care Mode timing has been updated to give more brushing time, which is why I’m upgrading the app to 4 stars, and it makes the app more convenient to use. One problem that remains is that there are times when the Bluetooth loses contact and gives me the “Almost Clean” result at the end, meaning it says that I did not brush all sections completely. It would be great if there was a continuous mode that allowed me to brush for longer than 3:20 and lets me continue brushing an area until it shows I’ve brushed it completely before moving on. For those of us who choose to do the apps preset challenges, it is a bummer when we’ve actually brushed each section but get inaccurate results. Previous rating: One surprising flaw... The app shows you where to brush and keeps track of the sections of teeth you’ve already covered, which I like. It directs you, using an onscreen diagram, where and for how long to brush based on the setting of your diamond clean head and handle setting. The issue I have is that it doesn’t allot time for the backs of my front teeth in the “gum care” mode and then alerts me that I didn’t get a “complete clean”. It’s a surprising issue considering the technology of the toothbrush. The fact that it’s able to detect exactly where in your mouth you’re brushing but doesn’t cover two sections of teeth in a three minute brush seems like a strange oversight.

App isn’t helpful
I just deleted the app. I recently changed the brush head (because the toothbrush indicated it was time to replace). Everything good. But today I opened the app (I rarely open the app as I don’t find it worthwhile) and the app says I am using an unknown or non compliant brush head (I can’t remember exactly what it said) but I did replace it with exactly the same brush head it originally came with. So after repeatedly trying to get the app to recognize the brush head, I finally just realized it was a waste of my time. The app seemed broken as all it did was keep sending me to some reorder screen. I am in my late fifties, and have all my teeth except for my 4 wisdom teeth, and have only purchased a sonic care brush for myself a few months ago so I am confident that I don’t need my time goofing around with a poorly designed toothbrush app. All my teeth are in great shape from years of using a normal toothbrush. If I stumble upon the updated way to update brush heads in the app, I might reinstall the app but, really, having the app is a bit of a joke to keep you brushing your teeth.

Good app with a useful purpose but has security risks
The app is solid but it has some important security risks: 1) You can’t logout so anyone who can access your device can access your health data. 2) Logins are single factor authentication only. There’s no SMS PIN or TouchID option available. Again this is a concern because anyone can login to your personal data if your password is hacked then entered correctly. 3) The password is not linked to your stored passwords on iCloud so you have to go to the website and login up store it, or store it manually (but then the Password is not recommended when you go back to the app to enter it (after you delete and reinstall it so that you can login again.) I would also ad that the app - in addition to brushing data, which could be useful - is a sales pitch for oral care reporting services and a subscription for a brush head replacement service. That’s a lot of commercialization for an application that only purports to be a value added feature of the toothbrush.

App Doesn’t Justify Buying a $200+ Toothbrush
I have become completely frustrated with this app. I want to love my toothbrush that I have had since December 2018, however the app crashes/freezes constantly. The brush is connected and it works from time to time, but other than that it either crashes or stalls the entire first section of my mouth. There is no way to back track cleaning cycles that did not happen with the app open which is frustrating as well. That eliminates the app feature of tracking sections of your mouth while cleaning and your brush head health. The brush tracking is also inaccurate. It works when it wants to. Some days it works well, others it misses sections of my mouth and when it turns to touch up mode it works perfectly saying that I am cleaning that section even though my brushing is exactly the same as what I performed during the original cleaning cycle. My frustration has grown to the point where I get I needed to leave a review. With that being said, I would not recommend buying a $200+ toothbrush just to get fed up with an app that doesn’t work efficiently.

App Stinks...but I’m coping
I paired the toothbrush with my iPad and that worked okay. But the app will not verify my email address it tell me to create an account using Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, or Google+. I do not use any of these and do not intend to start because of some app. Email should be good enough, but with this app it is not. I’m tired of all these apps requesting way too much personal information in their futile attempt to sell me more stuff. Update: I got the app to work using a gmail address I pass out so my spam mail has a place to go. I am now using the app, but I’m finding it a little buggy. Not all of the areas I brush register in the app. So, since I got it to work, I’m upgrading my rating to fair. With a few tweaks this app could be a great healthcare experience.

MORE APP CRASHING - YET AGAIN!
So once again, insufficient testing was done before a new release. When v6.0.0 came out, it started crashing (and closing) when loaded, every single time. Then an update came out many weeks later, which claimed to fix the crashes. Nope, same problem. Then ANOTHER update came out a week or two ago... it fixed the problem, yay! The app loaded! Then another app update was released (v6.4.0)... and guess what? CRASHING! Finally they updated it again and it worked fine… until now - with the new v10.4.0, it just says “Please wait a moment” with a spinning circle, forever… it never clears. I tried closing down the app, I tried rebooting the phone, etc. Nope! The app is once again utterly broken. For the love of God, Phillips, please step up your app TESTING before releasing updates! Either hire more testers, or train them better, or both. We are not your beta testers, we are your end users. The ones that bought your products, and will base our decision on whether to do so again on our existing experiences. DON’T RELEASE BUGGY, CRASH-RIDDEN UPDATES!

Good app, but could use some improvements
This app is useful if you know how to hold your brush correctly. Sometimes the app does not recognize where you are brushing if you aren’t holding your toothbrush correctly and/or are not holding your head up. For example, sometimes the app will think I am brushing the front of my front teeth when I am really brushing the back of my front teeth and vice versa. I took off one star because of this inaccuracy. I took a second star off because I would it kept track of how often you floss, use mouthwash, and brush your tongue instead of just prompting you with a reminder for each of these things. Why is there no data or history for these three things? I would think it would not be too difficult to display since a person is already answering yes or no to them. It would be helpful if you could see your history with these things. Thank you. 😊

The app needs more flexibility. I want more control
Overall it works as intended, it is a great tool to keep track of you brushing habits. However I have suggestions that would make the experience even more personal and effective. 1. Molars have three surfaces, inner surface, outer surface and chewing surface. The app does not recognize the chewing surface of the molar, thus when you brush this area the app will not consider this effective brushing. The app should also recognize the chewing surface allowing for and registering time for it. 2. Although the “scientifically recommended” brush time is two minutes, maybe I want to brush for three minutes. It’s my mouth and my expensive toothbrush I should be able to add to the brushing time. Actually in other countries, the recommended time is three minutes. 3. When I miss a spot... since the app does not recognize the chewing surface, the app does not record that time. Leaving that area yellow. I recommend that when the app reads that I miss an area, I be allowed to turn the brush on again and hit the areas I missed, and not have to go through the whole brushing sequence. The app should allow for me to just hit the spots that need the additional attention. 4. Finally I agree that consistency will be key to a cleaner mouth. But maybe I want to start my brushing routine on the right side or my mouth not the left. A left handed person might find this more pleasing.

APP Unstable
I have owned the toothbrush since July 2017. I like the toothbrush a lot. It is much better built than the other toothbrushes from Sonicare I have used. However, the APP is very unstable. Sometimes it starts other times it gives me the pretty model picture for a second or two and then goes back to my iPhone icon listing. Other times when the program starts to work, it won’t register the top right portion of the feedback correctly and then finally gets serious on the top center and the remaining of its cleaning cycle. What is the point of awarding me points for brushing? I don’t need worthless incentives from someone I don’t even know. This app needs to be withdrawn and rebuilt from scratch. Yes, I am using the latest IOS version and my toothbrush does connect to the app. Users rate the app at 4.8 out of 5. I do not understand this. Based on other comments here, my experience is not isolated. I will continue to use the toothbrush but I have stopped using the app. Waiting for a year and a half for the company to fix the app is too long for me. Am I disappointed? You bet I am!

Good, but…
I think this is a great concept and it has actually gotten me to be more conscious of how much I’m brushing. My biggest issue is that if you exit the app for some reason while you’re brushing, it stops keeping track of the brushing. Then the system tells you you’re only brushing once a day. Also, I work late and sometimes go to bed after midnight. The algorithm that tracks how often you’re brushing doesn’t take into account brushing after midnight. It counts that towards the next day and it still doesn’t add up. For example Sunday morning I brushed like normal but that night I started brushing at 1159 pm. The system marked that for Monday. On Monday, I brushed three times and at the end of the day it said my average for the week was 1.7 times. This is a bit nit picky, but there were two days, and I brushed 5 times. Therefore the average should have been 2.5 times/day. I can’t figure out their arithmetic.

What a pointless app
Congratulations, you have successfully compiled the 3 most boring things in the world. Brushing teeth, statistics, and homework. I mean the app is fine if you already own the toothbrush and need a timer, but I based my toothbrush purchasing decision around a stat driven app, and only after downloading the app did I realize all of my research was pointless. Recently this app has been updated, and it no longer resembles anything on their website, box, or online toothbrush reviews and took what looked like functionality and innovation, and replaced it with a timer. This app features a segmented circle broken into 1/6th that counts down from 2 minutes then on the Home Screen logs how long you brushed for. On another page you’re provided with information on how to brush better. Give me tips WHILE brushing my teeth! Give me stats! Give me graphics! Give me a tutorial! Give me guidance! Talk me through the process! Tell me where to brush! These things can be integrated into the timer to make me feel like I am using this app for a reason. Let me pause so I can spit or add more toothpaste. Allow me to change the brush settings on my phone and give me descriptions of what the settings do. You have limitless technology at your finger tips and gave us a timer that I had to read a paper manual to learn how to use. I hate brushing my teeth but at least I found something I hate more. This app.

Sonicare 3500.
tot purchased this to replace my old Sonicare toothbrush of 25 years. I thought I’d enjoy the app linked to my phone as I had a habit of not changing the brush head out in a timely manner and that it tracks your brushing. Unfortunately, it doesn’t have a clue as to where the brush head is when brushing. It gives you a location to start in but if you start somewhere else it doesn’t shift locations on the app. So for the price, it’s not worth the money, just mark your calendar as it’s much cheaper. Now it claims to track your pressure and dragging as you brush which I believe may be working or at least seems to inform you when your done and the bottom of the handle lights up when you have to much pressure as well. In all, go with the less expensive version. Overall I believe Sonicare is the best toothbrush on the market to this day.

Great idea, slightly flawed execution
I was worried about spending so much money on the Philips smart toothbrush, but it really has improved my dental hygiene immensely, and a lot of that is due to this app. It effectively encourages you to do all your hygiene regime, not just a quick brush and rinse. Plus I can feel how clean it gets my teeth; I’m not going back! The only problem I have is connectivity- I’ve missed goals in the app and spent twice as long as it takes to brush troubleshooting bad Bluetooth that refuses to connect. The problem for me may be due to the fact that my wife and I share the same brush and use different heads, but at this price range that shouldn’t be an issue. Until they fix this, I’m just going to have to borrow my wife’s phone, disconnect her, reconnect myself (if possible) and brush OR just ignore the app, which is half the reason we got this brush. Fix this issue though, and the app will be five stars for sure.

Waste of Money
The ONLY reason I spent nearly $300 on a brand new Sonicare, when my current DiamondClean had absolutely no issues, was for the smart features/app integration. After just over 1 month of daily use, I opened the app to brush, and it asked me to sign up as if it was my first time using. Ok... so I went along with the process, my account was recognized, but the final step of restoring data encountered an error and ALL OF MY BRUSHING DATA WAS LOST. I am beyond upset. On top of this, every time I would brush without using the app, the data would not sync/count that brushing session for the day. My favorite feature is being told when brushing too hard or too fast and I have greatly improved my technique, but only with the help of the app alerts. Without the app, you don’t get notified by the brush itself if you are brushing too hard or too quickly. I feel like the Philips Sonicare Smart DiamondClean brush is one of those devices that shouldn’t be able to use the term “smart” in its name. Major let down and waste of my money.

Good and on the way to greatness
The concept of an app helping you brush is awesome. This one needs to work out a few bugs. If you do not hold the Sonicare level (like say if you were looking down at the app on your phone), the brush doesn’t send the proper signal to show you have brushed thoroughly. The intervals for “Clean” are 20 seconds, but that’s 10 seconds per area. Why not set the time for 12 segments of 10 instead of 6 for 20? Also, if you attempt to brush the tops (or bottoms) of your teeth, rather than just the fronts and backs, you miss getting a “complete clean” and have to “touch up” the “missed” areas even if you didn’t miss them. All in all, it’s great feedback for those who are electric toothbrush novices, but for pros who have been using Sonicare for years, it’s like learning to brush again even if you’ve been keeping your mouth and teeth healthy. Keep working on it guys-you’re almost there.

Pretty neat!
I was initially worried that the toothbrush might not connect to the app after reading some of these reviews, but that is rarely the case. You do have to use the app a certain way to ensure a connection, but it does connect every time. First, you open the app (don’t remove the toothbrush from the base or turn it on). Next, tap brush (in the top right of the app) and only then remove the toothbrush from the base. The app will indicate searching then connected. Works everytime! Touch-up is cool, lets you know where you missed spots. Also, the brush has really made me focus more on my oral health, I have even started to floss. Omg. Has some room for improvement through. The goals section of the app has stopped working for me. It only lists one option, custom goal, and when I select that... the app crashes. Seems pretty stable otherwise.

Game changer
I have always found it difficult, even with an electric toothbrush, to determine if I’m using too much pressure, moving too much or not cleaning a certain area of my teeth well. It is extremely helpful that the toothbrush lets you know when to switch sides of each section of your teeth so you don’t spend too much or too little time on a particular area. If you move too much it notifies you to move less and if you press too hard it let you know that you’re scrubbing to intensely and this has made a huge difference on my gums. Usually when I go to the dentist for my cleanings, they tell me that it looks like I might’ve pushed too hard in certain areas as they can see some wearing in the gums and now that does not happen at all and the last report was that my teeth were great. I attribute it to this toothbrush as it has taught me how to correctly brush my teeth. To make this toothbrush even better, the app that is used while you’re brushing in conjunction with the notifications on the toothbrush itself make it so easy to do a great job brushing your teeth. For those that like a visual indicator, this is a true game changer.

Great product
Hi, so many negative reviews of the software ends the toothbrush. I think they all come from the fact that people have not spent time exploring the product in a proper way. The software is actually very good, and it teaches you in details how to use the toothbrush. Especially like the sensors off and relation of the toothbrush, which tells you exactly what angle should be use for proper use. Overall, I think it’s a great product but you need to use it in the proper way and don’t just use the old habits and then apply them into this new high technology product. Highly recommend to those who are willing to explore the product in the proper way

love the brush, only like the app
gave this feedback before during an in app prompt but leaving a review here with hopes for a bit more info/response. biggest issue i have with the app and it’s displayed in dashboard image they show on this app’s promotional material here is that the app only credits you for at most two brushes per day when calculating your daily average. you can clearly see in the promo dashboard photo that the brusher brushed once on monday and saturday but four times another and three another day with two brushes every other day of the week but their weekly average is still 1.8 brushes a day? seems like a simple calculation fix. also scanning previous weeks of brushing performance causes a lag in response in the app. querying the data seems to take greater time the farther back you explore. this was a bigger issue when the app offered tracking of other dental routines such as flossing. i’m assuming these other metrics were dropped because the developers noticed the associated drop in performance as well? lastly, wish there was a way for them to make the brush heads recyclable. the chip in the brush head used for tracking usage seems to do something, right? that chip can’t be reset/reused?

Terrible app for $300 toothbrush
Got Sonicare Diamondclean Smart 9700, which is their top-of-the-line toothbrush. BLE connects fine to app, but then it stops at Step 3 because it says “internet offline.” The app will not allow me to proceed further. I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled the app about a dozen times and obviously my iPhone XS Max (latest iOS software) is not offline, but same result. Thus, the highlight feature of this $300 toothbrush doesn’t work, and Philips has no coherent response. I called support and after it took the agent about 5 tries, she finally came back with the very astute advice to uninstall and reinstall the app. It’s been “elevated” to presumably someone that is doing something other than reading a script, which will take 5-7 business days. I’m giving Philips a few days to resolve this mess, or the $300 toothbrush is going back from where it came. How hard is it to make a working app in 2019? Test the software before you release it with a premium product!

This app needs major improvement
This app is so bad that it does not justify that Philipp’s charges an extra $50.- for their toothbrush over other toothbrushes from Philipp’s. First of, the app takes very long to boot up on my iPhone X, running iOS 13.3. Then 70% the time the toothbrush does not connect with the phone. About 60% of the time the brush does not show correctly where I am brushing - inside or outside of my teeth. Of these 60%, 90% of the time the upper right side is not getting brushed according to the app - always resulting in me having to brush beyond the 2 min brushing cycle. Whereby the developer has compliantly overlooked that the end of the last Milet never needs to be brushed, because the app does not care about this. However, I am not sure if it is only the app, which is badly developed or the toothbrush too, since it very often it does not relay where I am brushing (inside/outside) or at all. Better get in developing a proper product or I will change to Oral B!

In toothbrush love!!!
This is by far the Cadillac of all toothbrushes! It’s also the best one I’ve ever owned! My family thinks I’m a little nuts spending so much money on a toothbrush, but the way I look at it is...it will save me a lot more money on expensive dental work! My teeth feel cleaner than they ever have before, and I previously owned a Philips Sonicare DiamondClean Smart toothbrush prior to this. I am also a fanatic about my teeth being clean! My old toothbrush still works great, and has now become my work toothbrush so that I can brush after lunch. I absolutely love the charging case on the Phillips sonicare 9900, it is sleek, beautiful and small, perfect for travel! Definitely take the time to get to know all of the features on this toothbrush, you will be glad you did!

Minor Upgrades needed for 100%
Overall is amazing! I love how I can track my brushing technique and the time per area. I love how it indicates the areas that need to be reinforced. However, when I skip an area, at the end i would’ve liked i it had an option to add 3 mins in the areas highlighted. Additionally, I would’ve loved if one can personalize the ring band at the bottom (it doesn’t have one, but it would be nice). My husband and I have the same kind, and color cuz we both like the dark one. If it only had a way to switch colors through the app, that would be amazing. Other than that, the Sonicare is amazing!!!!! I highly recommend it, specially if you drink tons of coffee like me, and extreme white teeth! Sonic is your best friend.

Toothbrush will not connect to app
I’ve had the HX999 for almost 3 weeks and it has only connected to the app once. The 1st day I received the toothbrush it connected but when I used it; it didn’t recognize the zones well. I would be brushing in one area but another area would be showing on my screen. I thought that I just had to get use to using the brush but after the 1st day it wouldn’t connect to the app anymore. I went into the settings of my phone to connect it under Bluetooth it would connect and then disconnect. I’ve deleted the app and reinstalled it & it still won’t work. I contacted customer service and worked with the agent almost an hour and it still wouldn’t connect. I’m still waiting for customer service to tell me what they’re going to do. At this point I’m ready to return the brush. I’m paying way too much money for this brush and it’s not working properly.🤬

INFERIOR App for $$$ Toothbrush
The app is painful to use, has very little ability to customize, takes FOREVER to load, does not quickly connect to your phone like every other single Bluetooth device you have. There is no email contact the developers mechanism within the app to provide feedback (the chat function does not count). You cannot create your own brushing program. You cannot change the view of the mouth while brushing to the 3D teeth. The app and/or toothbrush cannot correctly identify the back vs front of teeth and simply makes assumptions based on where you are in the program. Any reviews missing these points don’t reflect the REAL user experience of this app. The app looks and feels like there was NO beta testing before it was released and no market research to identify and address all of these deficiencies. It’s an excellent 300$ toothbrush crippled by a profoundly subpar poorly thought out and poorly executed app.

SO SAD I paid $240+
1️⃣: APP. I’ve posted reviews, tweeted, chatted, & emailed about app problems. Shouldn’t get the same lame excuses for problems with the App. Notice for updates—they’re careful & never say they’ve really fixed anything. App REALLY PUSHES you to buy stuff! ➖1️⃣⭐️: App developers. Just give you condescending pat answers. Their responses demonstrate they don’t read reviews. Examples: When you specifically state you’re using iOS 11.4 & they tell you to upgrade to iOS 11.2 or higher. SMH on that one! Or you tell them you’re definitely connected to the app. And they shamefully tell you to connect to the app. 🚫⭐️: Product Specialist/Customer Service. Each person acts like they have no idea what your talking about and often you get different answers to exact same questions. 4️⃣1/2⭐️: Toothbrush. It’d be 4.8 to 5⭐️ if the other parts worked. —Philips developed the Toothbrush & the App. Why so many problems when Philips owns Both sides of the equation? SMH!
