I’ve never written a review for an app but I want people to know how this app is. I live in a rural/suburban type area and downloaded this app bc my auto insurance would deduct money if I use it. I drive a few miles to work and back & I drive safe- I have young nieces so I’m used to being very careful. I even have a full cup of coffee in my car on my way to work in the AM and it doesn’t spill. I know I’m safe. You can drive the safest you ever drive and you’ll still get points deducted that negatively affect your score, things that aren’t even in your control. I get points deducted for the roadway being bumpy, the time of day I drive going and leaving work bc it’s “prime time”, and I even was deducted points for yielding as I merged because I wasn’t driving “straight” when in reality it was a curved road. It is very frustrating and if you ride with someone else and forget to click that button right after, it’ll affect your score. The only pro is that I treat it like a game and try harder and harder to score perfectly bu its frustrating bc I can’t control the roadways or the time of day I drive. I shouldn’t be negatively affected for having a normal 9-5 job or that my taxes are high yet our roadways aren’t even.
The app is a total mess. However here are the advantages and disadvantages: Advantages (benefits): It shows you the routes you have been driving and gives you the option to select if you were driving. If you are a privacy concerned person, then this accounts as a disadvantage! It also shows you how often you drive (the time of the day) and where too! You can treat it as a challenge to improve your score and drive more safely, however regardless of your safely driving, you can not beat beyond certain points! Disadvantages: Most of the scores are incorrect! For example, You never touch your phone, but still score is not 100. Instead between 90-95! why???? Doesn’t matter how carefully and safely you drive, the smooth driving is low! I think the app assumes that you need to use break from a mile away! Or keep your speed constant throughout your journey regardless of bumps or traffic lights or change of speed limits! Totally wrong!!! If you use your car in prime times, automatically your score goes down! Working night shifts, the score even get worse! I use this app as part of my car insurance (Plymouth Rock assurance), but I don’t recommend using it at all. Thanks.
This app mainly tracks four categories. Out of them, phone usage and smooth driving are the two that are really are bad. Although phone usage always scores high it should be a perfect 100 since I DON’T touch my phone at all while driving. The worst one is smooth driving. It always scores low as if you’re a bad driver when in reality it just tracks wrong. To test it I accelerated as normally as possible, put the car in cruise control to avoid and changes in speed or “harsh pedal work” then slowly came to a complete stop. Turned the car off, walked away and STILL had a terrible score for “smooth driving”. This is consistent with every driving experience I have. App is a joke. If my rate is increased because of this terrible app then i’m leaving immediately and whenever I get the chance, advising anyone not to choose them. If a developer is reading this, please fix the smooth driving section. Even the app pictures show smooth driving as red, whoever tested it couldn’t even get a high score.
This app is absolutely horrible and designed to give you a less than perfect score. Those of us at the mercy of Plymouth Rock and this app know what I’m talking about. I just finished taking a drive, which by looking at the map, appears to be a perfect drive. No “dings” for anything whatsoever. No medium or hard accelerations, harsh or medium breaking, I had no cell phone use, and had smooth, steady driving at the perfect time of day. You name it… it was a perfect drive. Or so I thought. I was rated an 84! Why? I ask when it should have rated 100! So there you have it folks, you will never get a 100 even if you drive excellently. It’s just not going to happen. I’ve been using this app for almost 500 miles now, 45 drives and I’ve yet to see a score in the 90s. My highest score was an 88… once. Yes, I’m getting a discount but these unfair scores and tracking my every move is getting to be ridiculous. I think I’d rather just pay the 8 percent extra on my insurance at this point.
What happened if you continue to get a bad score? Do they cancel your policy like how do they work if this app just assume that you’re driving bad all the time
This app is poorly designed and the ratings are not valid. If you plan to ever use your break pedal, do NOT download this app. It literally deducts points from your score for just slowing down/stopping, no matter how smoothly you do it. It’s like the app expects you to just continue rolling until you naturally stop without using the break! It makes me anxious when a light turns yellow or someone pulls out in front of me because I know my score is gonna suffer Also, I never touch my phone while driving (it’s always out of site and on driving mode) and I still have never once gotten a perfect score for phone usage. In addition, if you drive during rush hour, at night, or long distances then you’re screwed because the app negatively impacts your score for all 3 of these situation.
This app thinks playing music is considering using your phone
I hate this app, while it tracks if you are “good” drive and it’s very subjective. Of course I play music from my phone to my car speakers when I drive but apparently the app tracks that as using my phone even if it’s not on. Literally would give me a subpar score when at the end of the day it will mean I won’t get a deduction on my insurance. I don’t understand how this apps tracks if you’re using your phone or not. When it’s off or when it’s idle playing music? Like do I need a separate device to play my music now, and that’s even more money I need to spend? It’s nuts, my insurance made me download the app so I can get the car insurance. Please for god sakes fix the app. It’s useless if it’s going to record inaccurate data.
If you download this app, do not let kids touch your phone or your Bluetooth radio. My radio is basically a mirror image of my phone. I was dinged for using my phone because my child was changing the music on the radio. The reality is you are using this app because you have to, so just don’t let them have the phone or use someone else’s phone for the radio. Weird things lower your score. It knows it is sensitive because usually a good score is green, however, I have a 56 in smooth driving which is negatively impacting my score yet that part is green. I have a green score in driving but I wish it would tell you before you start the sensitivity of the app.
We downloaded this app to help bring down our car insurance. We get a certain amount off for using it. By all means I am NOT a perfect driver, but I absolutely do not touch my phone while driving and it doesn’t give me a perfect score for that category. Also, for smooth driving it depends on the route I take. If I take an extra bumpy road it brings my score down a lot. Lastly, this just might be me but time of day for driving as a score is pathetic. I worked 2nd shifts and drive home every day at 11pm (I always get negative points for that) Overall it could be really good, there are just things that should be fixed in order to give the most accurate results.
Did anyone receive their discount after completing the requirements in the app?I was paying about 250$ then added roadside assistance to make it 270$ roughly. After completing the app I was looking forward to my discount so I called my insurance company PlymouthRock and they told me they already applied it when i first got my insurance. They told me this 4months later when i completed the requirements. How did they apply the discount instantly when the app say you have to drive for 4months or what ever the time frame is to get the discount. I’m still paying270$ a month so where is the discount ??
This app is not accurate. I never break heavy and it still gives me low scores regardless for breaking heavy. I contacted them and they told me it’s an ongoing issue and most likely because NJ roads are horrible. It also takes off points if you drive at busy times of the day which in most cases you can’t help because of your work schedule, dropping kids at school etc. It’s a faulty app and it should be reliable when it comes to deciding how much money you’re going to have to pay.
Need to get this app for my new auto insurance. Here’s the 2 problems I constantly have. 1 it keeps saying I’m using my mobile phone while driving. I drive a motorcycle & my phone goes in my saddlebag, I have no access to my phone while driving. & 2 I report to work at 3:15am with next to no one on th road yet that’s a negative cause I’m at “higher risk” at that time but when I get out of work with all these other cars on the road then that a positive? This app is flawed.
App is horrible. How it rates your driving is unrealistic. Time of day is flagged constantly. 3:30 in afternoon when I get out of work is not safe according to the app. States to drive at different times. Tell me what the safe times are. Drive later I get flagged I don’t get it. Have a 92 on cell use. Not accurate. Should be 100. I never use my cell when driving. Smooth driving a 65. Haven’t had an accident in over 35 yrs. If this causes my insurance to go up I’m looking for new insurance. Ridiculous!
Second review of this app and it’s still bad. Deducts points for literally everything and I work overnight shifts so my scores are always low even if i drive smoothly. I barely touch my phone while I drive, unfortunately there are some bumpy roads when I drive to work so there isnt much I can do there. As of recent the app wont even open, it’s been consistently crashing on me and I cant go in to confirm driving scores. If I could give zero stars I would.
This app operates in the ether. You can actually be very safe and actually avoid something but be penalized as if you were being dangerous. If you drive for a rideshare at night when the business is you’re penalized automatically for the wrong time of day. This app will penalize you for acceleration that is moderate that is needed to merge. Otherwise it would be unsafe. No matter any type of deviation from its algorithm is the drivers fault
This app is the worst. You could drive like a driving instructor and still not get a good score. You have to stop for a bus route? Forget it! You will get points deducted for not driving smooth enough. You have to brake because the light switches to yellow and you think braking is better than getting a ticket? Doesn’t matter! You will get points off for a medium brake. Honestly, this app is a complete and total joke!
So I’m supposed to use this app in order to lower my rate. You guys need to fix this ASAP.. How it’s I don’t even touch the phone and it always shows I used it. Driving smoothly how do I control the roads, bumper etc.. again low percentage. Driving at 25 mph and never gives me 100% If you guys up to monitor ppl driving at least work on this app. Its not accurate at all!!! It’s Horrible! HORRIBLE!!!!
Absolutely horrible, not accurate at all!!! There are things that shouldn’t be even be calculated and one of them is “the time of day” seriously?! 😡 I also hate the fact that I have to always allow it my location. It doesn’t work when I set it up as “only while using app” I shouldn’t be tracked 24/7 sure I stop it but it’s a hassle having to go to the settings to stop it every time !
I had a drive with no alerts/icons on the map and got an 73. The next drive I got two alerts/icons for medium acceleration and medium breaking but I got an 86. This happens literally every day. The results in the app are a crapshoot. I really hope my insurance company doesn’t use the app to determine rates because they’re going to have a lot of issues and potential lawsuits.
I downloaded the app and I don’t touch my phone and got a ok score however if tu don’t touch your phone why don’t you get a 100 . Smooth driving bad I drive like I’m 90 years old slow and careful and still got a low score it tells u u. An change when you are a passenger but not true u have to go and pause it like why ? Do not like this app. They said there is a new app however I don’t see it
Totally unclear what it takes points off. Does not separate if it’s me driving or being driven. Interprets my mountain biking trips and jogging as terrible driving. Why all this stupidity and customer torture??? Is not designed to improve your driving to any extent but just to let the insurance company spy on you to deduct points. I’m canceling my insurance with Plymouth as it’s simply ridiculous.
I don’t know who designed and created this app, but they need to be taken out back and shot!! It is the most useless and difficult app I’ve ever tried to use and just plain doesn’t work It freezes up all the time and for the two months that I’ve had it I haven’t been able to get it to work once!! What’s worse is that Plymouth rock does not call me back with Technical Support after repeated calls for help!!!! And now they threaten to take away my discount for having signed up for it and they just haven’t helped me one tiny bit!!
I barely use my car; even though i drive slowly and only travel for short distances like 4-5 miles few times a week, it always shows that negative scores on smooth driving. Its impossible to get a score above 90. Useless.
No matter how I drive, I cannot get above 67 for safe driving and even if I don’t touch my mobile the score is 95. Perhaps if I left the phone home I could get a score of 100; but then my driving wouldn’t be tracked , so that won’t work. Guess the adage that nothing is ever perfect applies here.
App doesn’t work as it should, only as intended. Rather than making accurately track you performance it’s designed to limit your discounts. Also if you don’t use it they will cancel your policy, so if you’re privacy oriented, say goodbye as they know your every move.
Green arrows only so people stop complaining about low scores for no reason, guess what, it’s still broken. You can hide the numbers all you want but your algorithm must have been written by a chimp. Time of day, stupid. Smooth driving, stupid.
My main issue with the app is, if someone else drives bad, u get points deducted if you forget to ignore the ride which happens all the time. Not sure how to fix but that is the main flaw and give a ton of bad information and insurance uses it to say u are a bad driver.
Super inaccurate. I drove the speed limit, did not use my phone once, stopped slowly in advance to make sure i don’t stop hard or all of a sudden and got a 78. Imagine if i go over the speed limit by even 5 miles.
Smooth driving is fake and software bugs! I always be careful when driving on the road and highway sometimes score up and other days down (same my way drive in past).
This app is very frustrating. You can drive so perfectly and it still says you are not driving smoothly. It detects things that who knows what it’s talking about. Very stressful and inaccurate and frustrating.
This app is a mess I drive to work sometimes bc a preferred to take the bus and I this app scored me down bc a brake harsh is not even traffic a the time I drive to work and my score keep going down bc brake medium and harsh I don’t get it good insurance company but really bad app
Horrible app just wants insurance to monitor your driving. Ridiculously slow and ttipdtake up so much space and theres no way to clear them. Complete garbage just like the insurance companies
This app incorrectly identifies using navigation with CarPlay as “mobile phone use.” Obviously it is designed this way so they can raise or at least never lower your rates.
I was required to download this app by my car insurance company. I have no clue how it scores. It is totally inconsistent and arbitrary. It tells me my driving is great, but scores an 80/100. It should be giving me a 100 for mobile phone use, because I never use my phone while driving, and yet the score stays at 94. (I suppose this is because the phone is scoring my driving, so technically it’s being used. ). The mileage/time isn’t even consistent- when I go to the grocery store, it gives me different mileages going and coming, even though I can only go one way. I’ll be changing my insurance once the six months is up just to be able to delete this app.
Finally able to get a code after days of not receiving any to log in.Why is time of day even a factor,so basically people who need to drive at night are automatically getting a low score for if😒
I got two complaints about the application: 1. I drive a non luxury car and road bumps or road damages(holes/patches) are felt. The app translate it to non smooth driving, I tested it on 1.1 mile drive that was a smooth as you can get it - got 62/100 score. 2. It suppose to measure the driving itself and not the locations you go to, collecting the where you are driving and sending that info is unnecessary and to me considered invasion of privacy. If you can fix those 2 issues, I think I’ll be happy with the app.
Plymouth Rock’s usage based insurance app for policies sold 4/6/2020 or after and enrolled in the YUBI program. App provides a score for each trip you take as well as detailed feedback based on your driving skills, helping you become a smarter, safer driver!
