I’ve always watched ABC news with my mom growing up in the Gresham area. I remember I used to imagine they were like part of the family because our tv stayed on Channel 7 pretty much all the time so much that I knew everybody’s name easily and when I didn’t see them that day I would ask my mom where is that person at today? I hope they will be back tomorrow. Lol, then my mom will say they’re probably working out on an assignment for the news that day; and I will say ok then they’ll be back tomorrow to tell us about it lol. I still watch ABC news and look forward to seeing all the anchors familiar faces because it reminds me of home sweet home! My mom passed away in 2019 and I have since moved to Iowa with my husband to be closer to our 2 grown children. I love Chicago and I miss being there because it’s my hometown. I love you ABC and I will always keep all of you in my prayers. I enjoy you today just like yesterday! Take care ALL. And thanks for being so personable and professional.

My News

I’m a 51 year old man who lives in Kenosha, WI, there is only one cable contractor that allows me to receive both Chicago and Milwaukee news stations. I’ve worked in the Chicago area for thirty years now and I’m soon to retire. I’ve been an avid channel seven guy since I was a teenager. I can remember when some of the ABC personalities came from other stations and I also see some of the old ABC personalities on other stations. ABC7CHICAGO is commuted to having the best, the brightest and the most beautiful people that it can find. There’s nothing like waking up to Tracy, Tanya, Roz and Terrell in the mornings. You also have my all time favorite in Judy Psu in the afternoon and I go to sleep with ABC7CHICAGO at ten. Thank you all for always delivering the news the way we can all receive it from people who seem to really care about Chicago and the surrounding areas.

Great show for Chicago. it’s great to be able to keep up on the news or catch news as it’s happening in Chicago because it’s such a moving city. Great to be able to tune in without it being the regular news times of the day. keep up the good work. I must add that sometimes it seems that your station is rather biased for Republicans for example when Trump was running for president it seems that your station was constantly talking about Benghazi Benghazi Benghazi which really prejudiced Hillary Clinton quite a bit but when it was Trump in the Whitehouse you did not talk enough about what a traitor he was or do it constantly. Great app, seamless interface, except...

I've been getting nearly all of my news from this app, the stories are easily accessible and the navigation is seamless. I still give the app a 5 star rating, however, I wanted to point out that the app with suddenly crash, usually after reading a few stories. Further, the top always shows flooding warnings, but even though my location is set in the settings, and I don't reside near flood prone areas, it still shows up. Overall though, I've been very happy with its performance.

Ads cause the app to crash

It would be better if ads weren’t crammed into every nanosecond of reports. A weather video won’t play until the ad plays and sometimes ad audio plays over the video. Then the video is cut short for another ad or the entire app crashes as soon as the ad starts. Suggestion: get rid of the ads or fix them so you can skip them like in other video apps it’s not necessary to play a 2 minute ad. Most you tube ads are 5-10 seconds long or are a banner that can be closed once seen. ABC Get with the program and dump long ads. Also Tracy Butlers morning forecast is Useless... ads run longer than her nanosecond weather report. I can look out the window and get more info on the weather. This app is a waste of time for weather or any reports unless you like to watch ads.

Malware? One-option pop-ups.

Started getting pop-up message boxes (blue background) offering to install something or do something- the messages were very vague. I do not recall what they were, I am sorry to say. There was NO "Cancel" or "No" button option, only "Accept" or "Yes". It was not possible to get rid of them or go back either; I had to quit the app each time. After three of these appeared in one day, I uninstalled the app. Was I looking at a trojan or something? Who knows, especially now that App store integrity has been breached, which is more reason to never, ever click on pop-ups offering no option but "yes" anyway. As for ABC's news, as presented through this app, the writing was often terrible, full of half-sentences with words missing or in a weird order. Contradictory statements were common. All the proofreaders seem to be on a permanent break.

Hard to see on iPhone

When I select the Weather option, many of the temperature features are cut off on my iPhone. I can see the temps but the days aren’t completely visible…the top of words are cut off by the header of the page. Yes, you can figure it out by just the bottom half of the letters but why? If I had a larger screen it might be fine. Development needs to check “views” on a variety of devices before pushing update. Also, why in the weather section, is it always a day behind. Example, under daily option, it has “Today” and “Sat” but today is Saturday. 🤷🏼‍♀️ The temps are different so…?

Loud Ads Ignore Volume Pref, Crashes a Lot

Click a headline to read an article. And one of two things happen. Video auto plays. No issue there. But since April’s update, an ad will play at LOUD volume despite my phone’s volume on/off AND despite my pref in the app to play the news video with volume or not. I prefer to READ the articles, and most often as an activity while others are around which I don’t want to disturb. The sudden blast of an ad is startling to me and anyone nearby. It’s sorta nice to see the news video play as I read albeit muted. If I want volume, I’ll replay it unmuted. But for an ad to ignore volume setting within app and with phone silenced is enough for to stop using the app if not fixed soon. And, the app crashes a lot. As in 2-3 times before I get to end of an article. Not every article but prob half the ones I click into in one sitting. Again, that plus the ad volume is so frustrating I really don’t want to bother. Shame because this is the best app for local news here both in coverage and in user friendly interface (until last update).

Too many ads

I have been a loyal viewer of ABC7 Chicago News for over 30 years. This is an exceptional app. The new layout and design is phenomenal. However, I would give five stars if there was an option to bypass viewing advertisements. If not completely, then perhaps after the first five seconds. EVERY TIME you access a video associated with a news article, you have to view a 30-second ad. And it’s usually the SAME advertisement! If I view 10 videos, I am forced to view the SAME advertisement 10 times—that’s five minutes! It’s a bit much. Please fix this.

Inconsistent

In the beginning, this app was great. It had excellent content, was timely and informative. Within the last two years, there have been nothing but problems. At times, the app won’t launch at all. The wrong picture is often shown on the posts. Lively commercials are placed before horrible tragedies which is just awful. Sometimes, when stories are selected, nothing happens or there is no sound or the wrong video is shown. You never know what you will get with the app. I’ve been so frustrated with this app that I’ve avoided it for weeks. It needs some major improvements.

Kinks

There are recent kinks with the app. I open it and seconds after I try to open a story, the app closes. In the past 24 hours since the iOS 13 update the app opens but there is no story that I can click, it does not respond to touch at all, the article just won’t open. This was my preferred news selection, unfortunately I will have to stop using, delete and find another local app. Very disappointed reader.

Horrible update

This is a horrible update! Like other viewers it keeps telling me I need an internet connection, so there is nothing there. I know it’s the app because all my other apps connect. When I can see things, it’s not user friendly, hard to find stories. Also, I stream the news, and can’t always find it, or it won’t work. I finally really figured out the last update and don’t know why such a drastic change had to occur. If a better update doesn’t become available soon I will have to find an app that can actually show me news, which I hate because abc7chicago is my favorite station to watch, especially in the morning.

Definitely NOT an upgrade

I stream the morning telecast each weekday morning - at least I was able to until the upgrade to the new lay out/format. Never had a problem with internet connection. Now, I can’t live stream. Says I have to internet connection. Sorry, but I do. Same place as I used to stream this with no changes to my internet service. Also, everything is harder to find. I thought the previous layout worked very well. No problems with change here - change is good as long as we can still get the information we want and need. I would send a picture to prove I have internet connection, but I can’t seem to paste a picture here.

One of the best ABC news apps in the world

Bring back the ABC 7 Alarm clock app for Chicago and New York. I loved those apps. If the alarm clock apps are brought back, bring in more ABC7CHICAGO and ABC7NEWYORK news people for the app. I love how there’s video footage of every news story. There should be a section for UK news and Australia news & other sections for news on other countries. I love how the video is included in every news report.

Keeps closing! Too many ads!

I would like this app a whole lot more if you all could fix two things. First the app keeps closing after I’ve read about 3 articles, which is very frustrating. Next there’s way too many ads and on top of that it’s the same ad over and over again! Who wants to watch the sam ad everytime I go to read/watch an article?🤷🏽‍♀️ please fix this soon.

Review of app

I understand change is needed but rather go back to the old version of the app. The new app does not allow a full view of all the news and have to click through each story. The old app allowed one to scroll through quickly with features story on top. Sorry but since the change, I don’t see myself using your app much longer. Just being honest.

Please stop the auto scroll!!

This app automatically scrolls down to a video or ad that uploads to the story (it appears that way anyway) while you begin reading the story...it’s so annoying that if it doesn’t get fixed, I’m deleting the app. I have had the app for years and love the user friendly design but since this began a few months ago, I can’t take it! Thx!

Really good!

The only complaint I have is the weather portion, the video of the meteorologists are fine, then part where it shows the weather needs some improvement, way to often it has been a bit off. I sometimes need to know what the weather in a certain place will be. If it says it’s warm and sunny, I don’t want to see cool and raining.

Bad alerts full of unlabeled ads

If you just want the headline alerts, ok. But so often if you don't click on them within 5 minutes the story is no longer there or you scroll endlessly looking for the story. But you can be sure that the bought stories that CNN huffington post and the others have are all at the top and easy to find. What good is this "local" news Furthermore why are items god enough to send headline alerts about but can’t be found on the site. This is a crummy - to give it a good name- and poorly executed app!!

It freezes and it just kept on crashing 😡

I love and used this app for this very long time I am a Abc7 need fans in Chicago I lived in Indiana but now is getting so frustrating now because when I want to see the article and watch the news everyday to see what going around me I am depending on this app to keep the updates now it get so out of hand it keeps crashing and it freezes when I tried to watch the video too also it so many ignoring ads it got so frustrating I had too ending up watch it on the website on my desktop please please please fix this problems 😩

Automatic video playback is horrible

I have always been an ABC 7 fan and therefore relied on the app to keep up with the news. I’ve recently become increasingly annoyed with the relatively new feature that causes the video to a story to play automatically when a story is opened. Quite often I am not in a position, nor do I want, to hear the story when the words are right there for me to read. On top of that, it’s nearly impossible to mute the video quickly. I’m now finding myself using other news apps without that feature. Please change it back!

Channel 7...WOWZA! WOWZA! WOWZA!

I have watched Channel 7 news waaaaaay before Roz Varon got there. 😀I know this for sure because I went to (Columbia College) with Roz. Lol. In fact, we had a lot of classes together.😄 over the years, channel 7 has always been my number one choice of news because the reporters have personality, empathy, and knowledge! Keep up the great job you guys continuously do.

Difficult to navigate and annoying

The latest update has provided and app that is more difficult to navigate to get to the stories and topics that you would want to read first. I liked being able to just open up the navigation menu and select the topic I want to read. Now, even with the customizable news, you have to scroll through each individual story to find something to read. It’s annoying now. Bring back the navigation menu.

It's a good quick source of news

Although I wish I could get to full articles more easily from the alerts, I love everything else about this app and the news information. The alerts are quick and timely even when I am traveling in and out of the country. The news feed is a good mix of local, national, and worldly news too. Keep up the good work ABC7CHICAGO!

It has developed into one of the best...

I don’t watch much tv any more. iPad mostly. My fave restaurant always had the afternoon game show/news block from Channel 7 on and I have become a 7 fan. Also having had a career in tv - I am impressed with the many news crews 7 can field on the street. I think that this app does a great job of synopsizing the leading stories down.

The best turned almost into the worst!

I really liked this app at first because this used to be the next best thing when I would miss the live broadcasting. Now I just mainly use it for the weather because the app keeps randomly closing while I’m reading. This used to happen only every blue moon and now it’s almost all the time. This makes me want to uninstall the app and just view the news via Safari. The app is much easier to use but I guess that’s what I will have to do.

Stop auto-playing videos

As you scroll down, the photos accompanying the story headlines change instantly into a video that usually begins with nothing but a talking head. Don't do that until I click on the story!! I'd prefer to just see the initial photo while I read the beginning of the story. There's no sound anyway so what's the point of auto-changing to the video? If I wanted to see it, I would simply click on the story. Can you let your readership make up our own minds, please? We're not idiots. This is very distracting and annoying.

Poor App Design

I have never seen a news app with more flaws than this one. I have had a notification badge indicator on my app from the day I installed it saying there is at least one notification, yet I can’t find where the notifications coming from inside the app since it doesn’t tell you nor will it clear. If you go to the feedback form from within settings the feedback form won’t even load. Poor reliability, poor design and poor support.

What happened to reading?

At first I loved the “swipe” feature on the articles, but now there is no written content, only video. Often I check the news when I’m out and so cannot use video as it disturbs others, like in a waiting room at the doctor’s office. Is ABC worried we don’t know how to read? Getting rid of this app and signing in to NBC.

Imagine trying to scroll through the news and suddenly you pass by (and not even tap) an advertisement when bam your safari opens up an instantly your app store opens up. No I just want the news, have your advertisements but don’t make it open pages/apps that I have no interest in ever. At that point I’m over being informed and don’t return to this app. I will be deleting the app and getting my news elsewhere.

CRAPPY STREAMING!!!!

It amazes me that a billion dollar broadcasting company can't manage to hire someone that knows how to keep the live stream of the Chicago news up. Constantly cuts out in the middle of a story to show stupid stills of sports scores but yet can manage to stream every stupid commercial my real score of this app is -5/10. Get your crap together ABC!!! P.S. get landscape for videos what a failure you are.

I like the previous version better

I detest this app. With the re-design, you pick what I see first. I want to chose what I want to see by clicking on something rather than having to scroll through what you think is most important. The my news tab is based on what you think I want to see first. I prefer the old layout much better. Please go back to the drawing board on this app.

Just not happy with the way this app has soooooo many freaking commercials in it before I can watch the news story that I am trying get updated on. How about cut back on the freaking commercials on the app and I will come back to using it again.

Meh

There is a setting for what kind of news you want. Mine has all the important ones — local, traffic, politics, U.S. and world. NOWHERE have I selected sports, human interest or consumer stories. Nevertheless, this app (and, more specifically, the humans behind it) constantly sends me stories from the categories I have not selected and rarely do I get anything I have chosen to receive. I just received one about not getting ripped off on home rentals. Yesterday, it was about bicyclists. I’m NOT INTERESTED.

Love ABC NEWS, APP NEEDS WORK

I like to watch the news full screen, but by the time I change to full screen and rotate my screen the story is over. It’s so annoying. It would be great if when I rotate my phone the commercials and story will automatically rotate full screen.

Can’t open stories

Ever since the new update when I tap on a story to read it it will not open. I never had that issue before. I uninstalled it then reinstalled it and it worked at first now it’s doing the same thing.

Sound glitches

The update is fine, but there is an issue with the sound with the preview clips. After clicking on an article, the ad that appears before the news clip has sound even though I had selected mute. However, the clip continues to play with no sound as desired.

Terrible

The layout is terrible! It is very difficult to read news items, when you have ads and pop-ups mixed in together. Having half page items makes it extremely difficult to enjoy reading news with ads mixed in. The old app was much easier to read. Channel 7 Chicago is my go to local news station, however your app is the worse in the city. News items are not updated and tend to stay much to long.

Too many times I have logged on to see the live news broadcast is not available. I enjoy the early morning news, just disappointed when I have to watch another network.

I do not like the app as I have little choices to choose from as far as selecting topics and news. There are no drop-down menus like the old app used to be. There is no main menu. I am very disappointed in the app as I used to use the app on most every day.

My Location is unavailable on the weather part of this app

The weather part of this app does not recognize my Location-so I do not get a warning that a tornado, severe thunder storm, wind burst, severe snow storm in winter is heading in my direction. This needs to be corrected!

Too many crashes

This used to be the best news app in Chicago, but no more. I have uninstalled and reinstalled this app 3 times thinking that would help. It still crashes every time. I am finished with this app, never to reinstall it again. Bye.

Very Poor Readability

Information is good but the gray typeface on the weather windows is something only a young 20 yr old with perfect vision can read. A site with critical information should not be a design platform for cool and popular. Design 101 rule - design follows function. Make it functional with black typeface.

Unstable

I try to watch the live broadcast on my iPad, it crashes or it will not come back on after commercials, and sometimes when the live broadcast is on tv, the live button does show on the app page so that I can watch it live. Very unstable

River dying for St. Patrick’s Day

I waited to watch the dying of the river. Your site continued to grow excitement for this event- starting at 09:00. Well, you failed! At 09:17 there was a short panning of the event (approx. 30 sec). Then cut to news, then gave a panning of 2/3 street and the rest of river- speed boat. Suggestion: don’t promise to do something you don’t plan to follow up on. By 09:20-25, there is a better picture - but in my opinion- to late. And remember- at least an hour before the event was the promise to show the beginning of the dying- nice😟
