For students who have not been on many field trips or have any sensory concerns about a new place this has been immensely helpful. Not only can we view maps and make a plan before our trip but we know which areas may cause concern for some individuals in our group.
This app is FANTASTIC for planning ahead for a trip to the museum! The social guides really help explain what to expect in each different little part of the museum. I also like the schedule that can be checked off as you go and tells you what to expect next. Great app!
I've known this app was in the works for a while, but I'm still surprised by all the detail and thought that went into designing something that would truly be useful for families! Thank you HMNS and Infiniteach!
The app is user friendly to a fault; I often felt like it was geared toward a toddler or small child or at the very least the parents of such. The science center is not billed as a children’s museum so why should it’s app be? If I were a parent with a special needs child I would be THRILLED with this app. Maybe there should be a second, more serious & proper app for adults.
The Museum is home to the Burke Baker Planetarium, Wortham GIANT Screen Theatre, Cockrell Butterfly Center and a fascinating variety of permanent exhibit areas that examine astronomy, space science, Native American culture, paleontology, energy, chemistry, gems and minerals, seashells, Texas wildlife and much more. Access HMNS was developed to help all families and school groups, especially those with disabilities or young children, prepare for a day at the museum. In the app, you’ll be able to learn more about our exhibits, create your own schedule for the day, play games, and check out features like our sensory-friendly map and insider tips. We can’t wait to welcome you to the museum!
