Love it!!! Worth every penny
My favorite feature is the parent dashboard. I can pause my Childrens tablet from anywhere as well as adjust the settings. I love how you can add content based on their age and videos etc are chosen from reliable websites like PBS kids etc. I also love how I have the option of enabling or disabling web searches as well as you tube. Which I love because web searches and you tube are a big no unless it’s for school related projects and I am searching with them. With the parent dash board you can see how much time your child is spending on apps, reading, websites etc. I have the education feature turned on so my children do not hav access to any games or videos until they have reached the allotted time I set for reading. For example they have to 30 for minutes first. Once they have reach 30 min. of reading then all the fun stuff gets unlocked!

Good, but could be much better
For young kids, this app is great. Lots of games, books, ECT for a good price without needing Wifi all the time. What needs major improvement is the parental controls, which is basically the selling point of the app. 1. The choices of time limits is "weekdays" or "weekends". We all know bedtime for kids is later on Fri/Sat, not Sat/Sun. But the app doesn't understand that. It considers Friday night a weekday and Sunday night a weekday. 2. The educational goals only allow you to block games until they do it, or just have a goal that means nothing. It would be nice if there was something like "you must complete 15min of reading for every 30min of games" or something similar. Just more goal options. 3. Kids get no warning of when their time limit is close. It just shuts off without warning. A pop-up of "2 minutes left" or something would be reasonable. 4. The phone app for parents will not stay logged in as parents. It always defaults to kid's profile. I use my phone to control their tablets. I don't want to go through having to log off the kids and into the parent dashboard every single time from my phone. 5. I would like even more control over what they can do. Getting the option to block certain things vs. only restricting by age.

Parental Controls are a Joke
Absurd amount of content “curated” by Amazon’s “experts” with what qualifications exactly? Most of the content is extremely questionable. It may seem “harmless” because it’s cutesy and meaningless, but that doesn’t make it harmless. There is definitely great stuff in there somewhere, but it’s impossible for parents to control what their kids have access to. I would love to choose, for example, 5 apps and 10 books that are age appropriate for my kids and have those accessible to them, and then next week swap some of them out for other books and games that I choose, but there is no practical way to do it. Sure I could load it with content I want and then disconnect it from the internet, but then the content that I want them to have access to doesn’t work because it needs Wi-Fi, and the the parental controls on education first and time limits don’t work, because that needs Wi-Fi. It’s frustrating. I would love to take advantage of the good that’s in there, but there’s no way to do it. I’m right now canceling my free subscription that came with the tablet my youngest got for Christmas. I would rather buy apps and books that are good quality and good for them then let my kids by swamped with garbage every time they get on their tablets.

Ok. But …
I appreciate the ability to set age restricted content, but I don’t like that I can’t limit the apps and games, books my 4 yo has access too on his screen. It’s over stimulating for me to see it all there , as I imagine it is for him. 95% of it he doesn’t use, isn’t what he is interested in or he isn’t old enough to play or understand without help from me. (Even w/age restrictions) The games and apps he does enjoy often get lost in the shuffle of hundreds of other selections on the Home Screen. I’d like to be able to save his favorites to the Home Screen and have the ability to let him browse everything else on a separate screen when I have the time and patience to help. I’m constantly having to go in and clear his downloads of random things he has clicked on only out of curiosity and not of real interest. They shouldn’t be able to download to their storage w/o parental acceptance from the tablet or the parent app. Because of these issues I am highly considering not renewing when our subscription ends. Please fix some of these things!

Could be amazing.. if..
Ok let start with the good.. love the variety of books, games, and shows. We use these for the educational purposes. Love that you can set learning goals and time limits. Now.. on to things that seem to be pretty big issues that make me consider not repurchasing... it doesn’t seem to have a simple way to keep your child from downloading or deleting the apps, books, etc that are on there... so I have to turn off the WiFi on them.. which after a little while then the ones that are downloaded start acting weird and not working... plus every time they click something it automatically adds it to their carousel. I also wish there were descriptions of what the apps contain instead of having to download something that ends up not being what you thought. And maybe they could do something where a kids can add things to a wish list where parents can view and approve or deny a new book, game, show.. its kind of a bummer because I want to love the FreeTime and it really could be awesome if they got a few things working better and added a few management options. Really not sure we will renew.

Best app ever ! 👏
This app is the best app for kids on this app. You can read kids books you can watch videos and movies and it’s all for kids. Then there’s educational stuff all kids can get education there’s games you can even play with your parents. It’s really cool. there’s a giant option of books which is really nice. I love this app favorite app right now. You should get it. I promise you you’ll get a good deal for five dollars a month that’s cheap. I love this app you should really get it and conclusion as I said you shouldn’t really get this app. It’s the best you ever get.

App problems based on device
On my older son’s fire tablet he has the bar at the top on the home screen that allows him to select games, books, apps, etc. but when I open the app on my iPad, the app looks completely different. There is no bar, and none of the games or apps we have allowed him to download are showing up. We did not realize this was an issue until I tried to download this app on my iPad for my younger son and wanted to allow him some of the same games as his brother. We noticed that we couldn’t download games or apps. I thought this was a setting issue, so my husband and I took both the fire tablet and iPad and began to take a look around, only to find nothing. Yes, in the parent dashboard we can still set controls and pause the tablet as a whole, but all I’m seeing on his home screen is books, movies, and shows. We monitor tablet usage and his content very carefully, but shouldn’t both of our apps look the same???

Need more improvements!
We have used the Epic app more more that five years and recently decided to try the Freetime app. to explore new books for our 9 and 4 years old daughters. Our fourth grade need to read everyday to complete her daily reading log for her school and need to record # of pages and time she read. In the Epic app I do not any problem with this; however, in the Freetime my daughters cannot use any of its books because it doesn’t show reading levels, book activity or numbers of pages for any of its books. I really like the app because it has a nice variety of books sadly my oldest daughters can’t use for school. It would nice if they also add a summary when pressing the book you want to read and also add a quiz as an option at the end of each book. I really hope they makes updates for this app. I will try it for a year and hope for the best!

Books can’t be downloaded, can only use if on Internet
I’m very disappointed. I was really hoping for an app that we could use to download books my granddaughter could have on the plane on our way to France and to read to her while we are there, so that we wouldn’t need to bring dozens of books with us, taking up space and weight. This is not the case. If I turn off my cellular and WiFi access, I cannot reread any books I thought I had downloaded. And I have just read that this app is useless and will not work outside of the United States. This on top of the fact that there does not seem to be a good way to filter through junk books, so that she only selects quality literature has this retired teacher feeling that this is not an app that is useful for our family. I do not want to have to prevent her from selecting the prominent junk books, to get to the actual quality literature. I’m very disappointed!

Has some good features...
Both my girls have a kindle fire with the kids subscription. We are thinking about getting an iPad because the fires can be quite glitchy and don’t work well for more than a couple years. So I downloaded this app on my iPhone to check it out. There are no apps/games. The books and videos are there but there are no games at all. The only reason I’m keeping the app is because of the parents dashboard. It shows what they have been watching and playing and how much time they spent on each thing even on their Fire tablets. I wish there were a way to access that information on the actual kindle fires but so far I haven’t found a way to do that.

How to cancel subscription!
In ITunes Store(not App Store), go to the bottom and select your Apple ID. Under the account settings menu that pops up, scroll down to subscription. You can cancel there. As for the app itself, you can’t see the selection until you agree to the trial. Lots of books, which I give 2 stars for, but almost everything in the video section is already available on Prime. Also, I hear on devices other than Apple, they have more options, such as children’s apps and games. It’s ridiculous to charge IOS users the same subscription price, but not give us the same content everywhere else. I’m sure the reason apps aren’t available is licensing issues with Apple, but at least reduce the monthly fee. Won’t be keeping the subscription...

SEARCH BARS PLZ!!!
I LOVE LOVE LOVE this app! It's awesome because of all the books and I'm like a book fanatic... But there's NO SEARCH BAR!!! AAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! This is kind of annoying because the app starts me on a series and then- because of NO SEARCH BAR, REMEMBER?- I can't read the rest of the series. The search bar would improve many things. For instance, I would get to read my fave books when I forget them at home. Many people would be able to read books that were on their level of reading, instead of being forced to read children's books, which are on here ALL THE TIME, by the way. So, search bar plz! Thx.

Parental controls don’t work; difficult to cancel
New to this, but I downloaded it so my son could have access to lots of books to read. We download it and open it, and there are Super Mario Brothers gamer videos. Now our efforts to get him to read have turned into a tantrum. Updated: I spent a while on the computer setting up parental controls. However, they didn’t take effect on my child’s account on the iPad. So I spent the time to set them up on the iPad. Still not working. I can’t get him to read when there are a bunch of tv shows for him to scroll through before getting to the books. Now I’m trying to cancel the subscription. It’s not intuitive, so I looked up instructions. The options are not available within the menus, as it says they should be. What a waste of my time!!

Easy for everyone!
The FreeTime app makes it really simple for kids to browse books and shows, and really easy as a parent to know they are not going to land on something inappropriate. I also like how it gives suggestions of new books and shows for kids to check out. Usually, when my kid gets “bored” with things, I end up doing most of the vetting to make sure the material is appropriate. This app gives kids a safe venue to check out new things and decide for themselves if they like it or not.

Adequate Results but unnecessarily complicated
The FreeTime Parent app certainly has a good amount of control available. However it is extraordinarily unintuitive. As near as I can tell, in order for my kid to be able to listen to music I have to download ANOTHER app (the Alexa app) in order to enable “skills”. I can control exactly how much time my kid needs to read or listen to audible (and props for those being separate settings) and I can control apps and movies - but I need a totally different app to link my music account? 🧐 Also, it would be really nice if I could either make a separate setting for educational apps or whitelist a couple favorites to have a separate time limit.

Parental controls still do nothing.
NEW REVIEW: The new search is a welcome addition. But parental controls and limits still seem to have no effect at all on iOS. Why even offer them? It’s deceiving and makes the product seem broken. OLD REVIEW: Search and filters are a must. My child is 7 but reads at a higher reading level. There is no way to set that. And there’s no way to search for things he’s interested in. He’s far beyond picture books, but the Harry Potter books show up alongside the Pete The Cat books. It’s the most disorganized library ever. Also, I don’t want him watching videos or reading too late at night. I set those parameters in his profile on the website but they don’t seem to be reflected in the app.

Love this app!!
My daughter has the kindle fire kids addition. The parental controls are amazing on it. It truly is free time for her without having to ask for permissions or my wife and I wondering if she has downloaded something she isn’t supposed to. My only suggestions would be to add a nap time option to the parental controls. And this is on the fire tablet but add a cellular option please!!!!

App is glitchy, rarely works as expected
I have fought with this app for literal years as my kids have kindle tablets. The app frequently has errors and will not load the parent dashboard on my phone. When the app does work, the changes made in the app often do not get transferred to the kids’ tablets, or there is a long delay before the changes are made. If we are outside of wifi range and I adjust the settings on a tablet, when the tablet returns to wifi service, the original settings replace the new ones. Ironically, when I was asked for a review today, I was trying for the umpteenth time to load the parent dashboard and just received yet another error message. 😣🙃

Time limits and educational goals don’t work on iOS
The content available in the app is great. 5 stars on that. However, I really want to use time limits and educational goals to require reading before video watching. We had an old Kindle Fire tablet with FreeTime where that all worked as expected. But with iOS, no matter how I configure things in the parent dashboard, nothing is restricted. My other complaint is that I have a FreeTime Unlimited family plan but the app will only let me select one child’s profile. I can see the other profile but I get a confusing error message when trying to select it.

Great concept. Buggy and broken.
iPhone 12 Pro updated to latest iOS for reference. App is a wonderful idea but it’s broken half the time. It won’t update to show kindle reading progress half the time without resetting the kindle and the phone. Then even then it’s touch and go. When I go to add books from my library only a few are shown. Yeah I’ve played around with the settings and read the FAQ, boards , etc. it’s just buggy. Tried to uninstall and reinstall. Tried on different devices. For a paid service I expected better performance. Probably won’t be renewing my subscription when it runs out if problems aren’t fixed.

Book problem
This app is good but has a big problem, say your reading a book, and then after a few pages you exit out of the book, when you click the book again to pick up where you left up , it forgets your place. You have to read a certain amount of pages for it to bookmark it. I was reading this book and was about halfway through, (it was a long book) I read a lot more, and was almost at the end, when I decided to take a break. When I opened the book, half my progress was lost, very annoying

Small Glitches But Okay Overall
Changed settings to use data and for the most part, stuff played but every now and then I’ll have to shut the app down because it redirects to use Wi-Fi or turn off airplane mode. At that time of the stop, Wi-Fi is on AND airplane mode hadn’t been activated—not to add that again it should be using data. Aside from that, it doesn’t seem that more than one kid can use this at one time from separate devices. Will update later

HATE IT
Not worth it. There is no real way to limit what is downloaded to my child’s tablet. I love the variety she has but HATE some of the things that are deemed “kid appropriate” my child is only 4 years old and found videos by “The Onyx Family” and has been saying odd things. I never would have thought it was from her tablet considering it’s mostly PBS and Disney content. I don’t know how those videos are appropriate for kids but it’s not for mine. There’s no way to put an age limit or block certain categories apps games etc. You can download just about everything they offer for free on a regular tablet with free apps and more control on content.

FreeTime Unlimited
This is an amazing platform for kids. As a teacher, I am enthralled by the vast amount of book choices available on the app. However, I found it difficult to find books I specifically wanted my child to read because the app I downloaded onto my phone did not have a search bar. Hopefully, after perusing the settings, I will find a way to add a search bar to look for books. If I had not encountered this issue, I would have absolutely given the program 5 stars.

I like it
I like the ability to determine what and how long each individual child can have on their device. At this point, the only thing I’d like to adapt would be the daily limits option(s). For example: if just one particular day I’d like them to have an extra hour, just that day. I’d like to be able to adjust or add without redoing their entire limit and then having to go back and change back to their original limit.

Just ok
It’s nice being able to control the settings and time limits from my phone but it only works half the time, lately none of the settings actually go to the kids tablets at all so it becomes a giant pain in the behind. The app is useless if the settings aren’t reflected on their devices in real time, one of my kids it never reflects changes I’ve made on the app and the other ones it takes hours and other times they have to turn the WiFi off and back on. And they are always connected to WiFi so I know signal isn’t the issue.

How is this app $5 a month
The only thing meaningful you can do is clear ALL of the downloads, not one or two, all or nothing. You can also see what your child is doing on the tablet like how much time they spend streaming or playing games but that’s it, you cannot limit certain apps or remove a certain app. There’s no option to disable games while keeping educational apps active. You do get a year for free when you buy a tablet which are worth it but this app is all but worthless and should not have a cost associated with it.

Really great app for quick references
This is a really great app and I wish I could give it a better review however, longer books cannot be saved and cannot be bookmarked. My children get frustrated when they forget a book that they found and liked and then can’t remember what the title was because it couldn’t be saved anywhere for them. Also, for longer books there is no bookmark feature so they have to scroll all the way through a book which is frustrating for them as well.

Must have Internet connection to use
Very unimpressed. When using from an iOS device you must have constant internet connection, there is no ability to download videos or books for road or plane trips where connection may not be available. The free month trial said that subscriptions start at $2.99 for one child with a prime subscription, but it gave me no option to choose my subscription type (and nowhere to view or change it later despite spending way too much time looking for it) and automatically signed me up for the $9.99 up to 4 child non-prime monthly fee. Do not recommend this subscription even slightly.

My daughter has an iPhone 12 for on the go and an iPad Air 4 that stays home and is her “main computer”. She has this app on both devices but the sync features don’t work. So I like the selection of books. Problem is there are no page numbers and once you leave the app it starts the book over at the beginning and having no page numbers makes it difficult for my son to find which page he was on. It’s Okay..
I’m only 11 years old, and I used to have a fire tablet that has games and stuff on it, so I’m not surprised it doesn’t have any games. It’s pretty decent, I’m not gonna lie. But there’s MUCH ROOM FOR IMPROVEMENT! Like the videos for example, I watch Splatoon 2 and other stuff but there’s only one YouTuber I never watched, he’s pretty okay but I just wished there were different videos with DIFFERENT YOUTUBERS THAT YOU KNOW. I also wish that for the unlimited version which I have, you could play games on it and have more access to more videos. Other than that it’s okay.

Perfect for homeschooling! PARENTS, I strongly encourage you to invest the time to go through all the options available. You can block ANY (game, movie, book or title) by using specific words, Example; Blippi, scary, ghost, Halloween, devil, evil, or even Christmas, holiday or whatever it is that you don’t want your child to be exposed to. You can even block content that your child watches to much of. I LOVE THIS APP

App doesn’t sync to tablets
Despite being turned on and connected to Wi-Fi, changes made in the parent dashboard on the iPhone app don’t actually sync to our kids’ tablets. This includes adjusting daily time limits as well as pausing devices which are our most commonly used actions. Additionally, the slider to change total screen time doesn’t work at all in the iPhone app as it never stays where it was when user lifts their finger. It takes 10-15 attempts to get the desired amount of time to save and even then, the change isn’t synced to the tablet, which entirely defeats the purpose of an app. Total trash.

Read a book by its cover
I just can’t understand why the table of contents, summary page and even the page numbers are removed! The only way you know what the book is about, how many chapters it has and how many pages it has is to read it. You can’t click on the book and scroll thru the table of contents either because they’re gone. And you’ll never know how many pages it has unless you count them while you’re reading. It’s difficult to know what books you’ll want to read if all you get is the cover to judge by. I really wanted this app to be better.

Page Numbers
I probably should have read through the reviews a bit more than what I did. I subscribed to this for my son to have more option for reading material as majority of his reading for school is nonfiction right now. He has to log his reading daily which includes the pages numbers. After beginning his first book we realized that there are no page numbers. So we checked a few more books and to our surprise there were no page numbers. Sadly we had to cancel as it is to time consuming to try to count the pages he’s read!

Great for kids books access.
It is unlimited books access for girls and adult. The features is that you can read books in any devices just download your unlimited apps and signing. It is portable; whether you travel or lying down as long as your device with you. Price wise, lower could be better since you use it every month . Highly recommended.

Almost Perfect but For the Feature I Use Most Often
Really like the control the app allows. The feature I use most though is the ability to change daily time limits as a reward for completing chores. The daily time limit selector is a slider bar and so sensitive that it’s difficult for it to keep the selected time and takes several tries. It’s also only selectable in 15 minute increments. Please consider making a scroll wheel, like the iPhone timer.

Parental control issues
The app is okay at best. When it comes time to pause or shut off the tablets, end of day times or time limits, this app doesn’t fully work correctly & must not be sending the messages to the tablets bc one & sometimes both tablets won’t respond. It’s very frustrating when we don’t have the control over the tablets that we as parents need. Ok, Confusing that Controls Not in Alexa App
Setting up a child’s profile on Echo devices, coordinating wake words, and enabling drop ins is confusing. We bought an echo show so that other family adults, also each with their own echo show, but located in different states, could drop in on the kids and the kids could drop in on them. It is not self evident how to permit this. The device is terrific but the Alexa App and accompanying FreeTime App do not yet seamlessly work together. It’s a tough experience except for super simple tasks.

Good app, could be better
I wish there was a way to be able to control what apps/books/videos my child sees on his Home Screen. I also wish it gave a preview of what the apps are before it just downloads the app when you touch it on the actual tablet and also a description of each app for tablet on my parent app. Those are my suggestions to make this app better. I also think it could be a lot more user friendly when trying to filter what my son has access to.

Needs to be retweaked
Seriously difficult to figure out how to download books to your child’s account. Titles in Kindle Unlimited are sparse and not following the age range I’m setting. My child is 8 and growing and the books are little kid books. I’m working between my iPhone and the Kindle Fire 8 and I’m about to toss it all. It’s kind of the All or nothing mentality on the Apps too. I cannot block off Games I don’t want my child playing because it’s in the literature and it blocks my child from other games. Why set up a pin if you have to set it up all over again everytime you go to access parental controls also why is there not a way to search added content that you want to remove, you have to scroll through every added app to remove access its not even in alphabetical order it is very tedious, its also frustrating that apps like netflix bypass parental controls and allow access even though kids have reached there time limits

Troubled Parent
When I initially chose this tablet and platform for my children, I thought I’d be able to manage my children’s content and that the platform would help by providing safe and appropriate choices for my little ones. Not so. Parents still need to stay vigilant about the apps their children request and recognize that the app companies are constantly trying to sell our children things, and to hold their attention. So, the struggle to manage our kids’ consumption continues!

This app made my mom upset, we logged off an old acc we didn’t use anymore and made a new one, different email, different pass, number, EVERYTHING so we went to the subscription page, hit “begin” or whatever and then..”Oops! You already have a subscription on another account! Login to that one to begin.” Now remember, this was an entirely new account. I loved this app but now I can’t even freaking use it. If there was such a this as “Negative Stars” I’ll probably put -999,999,999. I want this app to be TERMINATED from the store. I also DEMAND a refund. From, Your former user, anonymous.
