Great app suite
Thank you for these apps!! I got a free trial of them as a grad student during quarantine and am totally hooked. I did ballet when I was younger and have lately struggled to keep up a regular workout routine, especially as a college and grad student—I used to go to the gym or go for runs but after a few weeks my workouts would just be the last priority and I’d stop. These apps have totally transformed my lifestyle, I love that I can do a quick 7-min workout on that app if I am feeling low energy, or do yoga or barre for however long I want but still get a well-balanced session. I also hate pre-recorded sessions and especially the sentimental philosophizing that usually accompanies them, but these apps just get straight to the workout in a gentle yet encouraging way. I am hooked, these are so much better for me than trying to go to a gym or go running on the street, not just during quarantine!

Barre
The yoga app (down dog) is great but Barre is awful. The only pro is that it does provide a large number of exercises for the body part you want to focus on. The negatives are many: 1) arms are completely left out, you can target most other body parts but not arms at all 2) there is no adjustment for ability level. Many of the excises given are too hard for me and the video doesn’t provide any modifications for making the move easier or harder 3) the verbal directions are terrible. The instructor says vague things like “lift” (lift what? In what direction?) “tuck” (tuck what? How?) “squeeze” (squeeze what? For how long?) “lift to the side” (what side?). And, even if you watch the video while trying to do the exercises it is very hard to see what movements the demonstrator is doing. 4) sometimes numbers are shown on the screen counting down how much longer you need to do the exercises and sometimes they don’t appear at all. It is frustrating to not know how much longer an exercise will last. 5) the music is very repetitive. I’ve heard the same songs over and over.

A uniquely peaceful aesthetic
I like how visually simple and acoustically relaxing these workouts are while still being challenging. I’ve never been into the peppy lady yelling at me vibe, and this isn’t that. I usually listen with a podcast playing in the background (major plus that it allows this) but their music options are good too and not mind-numbingly corny like some workout backtracks. My favorite aspect of the app is how short I can make each workout. Sometimes I’ll start with just 2 minutes of glutes, which gives me momentum to keep going with different areas of focus. By the same token a 3 minute workout is a great way to break up a study session that’s long from over.

Great workout, trashy music
I enjoyed the workout and high quality video. There were a few glitches of random video clips inserted into the workout which was confusing. There were also no transitions, leaving you scrambling from laying on the floor to suddenly stand up with a chair. I have used down dog for yoga and never had this issue. I assume these are things that will get smoothed out?? The music was horrible! Found myself spending half the time changing the songs because of vulgarity. I want to be able to do a workout with my daughter and not have to worry about profanity and lyrics such as “I’m gonna take your bra off with my dirty teeth” or “These drugs don’t work, I just can’t get high.” Seriously?? Who made this music track? Not what I’m looking for when trying to reach wellness in the morning. Please change the music.

I love all the apps
This one, barre, has fewer bells and whistles than the others and I think both the barre and the yoga are best for people who have taken at least few live beginner classes, but I really love that I can set the time, that they always change, and that I can listen to my own music or even a podcast or audiobook if I want to instead of their music. Lately I have been switching off the barre and HIIT apps and just fitting in occasional yoga, and this has been working for me. I love that when this routine starts to feel old, I can do something different.

It’s not too good to be true…
It’s just that good! Down Dog really is the only quality, affordable, and varied workout app I’ve found. They don’t bomb you with annoying ads or make you do the same 10 routines over and over again. It’s customizable, flexible, and I’ve been using both the Barre and Yoga apps for over three years now without getting bored. The app does what it says it will do, the Down Dog team actually listens to feedback and cares about its users. I can’t recommend the Down Dog suite of apps enough.

Yoga great. Barre needs improvement
The yoga app is great. The barre app needs improvement. It should have levels of difficulty or modification. Some exercises are not designed if you have weak back muscles. You are simply going to extend your back and hurt yourself. Yes it is good for your abdominals, but not for your lower back. The app should come with levels or increase in difficulty. If you arch your back when lifting your legs on the matt, which people do if you are not an expert or advanced for that matter, they hurt their back. This is something every instructor would tell you in person. It’s just not designed well for someone that wants a bit more difficulty, but isn’t ready for a 4 minute plank.

Love! Just a few thoughts...
I have been using the down dog yoga app for a year and love it so I was thrilled to find the barre app! The app is great. If I had any recommendations it would be to slow down the transitions between exercises when you are sitting down and standing up. I find myself having to rewind the work out in order to catch up. Also, I would love it if the app had a separate section for arms and for arm exercises to be added to the full body section. As it stands, I feel like I need to do other arm exercises when I finish the total body workouts. Overall, this is still great though and I will continue to use it.

Great for all levels!
I first downloaded this application right at the beginning of the lockdown/pandemic. I had been working out for a while so I was in good shape and could handle the long workout times. Well pandemic blues hit and I havent worked out in over 4 months, I am in pretty terrible shape and every bit of my body shook even with the easiest shortest exercises. I loved every minute of it. This app in invaluable, it lets me enjoy one of my favorite workouts from home and the music + the trainer keep me engaged.

Amazing- will be upgrading to a paid subscription
I am a (broke) college student graduating next May, so I am using the free trial until July. I really never like paying for apps (especially fitness ones since there are so many to choose from), but I will definitely be getting a paid subscription when the trial is over! Plus the fact that the owners extended the trial for educators, student and frontline workers is amazing and needs to be recognized and rewarded. Many of my friends will be purchasing as well ❤️

New moves, same quality!!
I’ve been a subscriber to the yoga app for a while now and prefer it over the others I’ve used. Simple and functional format, no issues I’ve come across. This app (plus the new HIIT and 7 minute apps) work just as well and remain easy to use. I don’t have any background of Barre routines, I just want to broaden my horizons and this works very well. Now if we could only adjust the volume of the music (across all the apps)... sometimes the instructions are drown out by singing - that’s really the only negative thing I can say.

Best exercise app
When I first found this app, I was so impressed with all the options for customization. I am able to pick the music, the. voice, type of practice and body focus areas for each workout or session. I started with yoga and was so happy with the app I bought the subscription. Was completely surprised to find out when you buy one you get them all. I now use all of them barre, meditation , HiiT, running and yoga. What a gem I found in this app. Thank you

Some tiny glitches but overall i love it
Some annoying little bits where there is no time to transition from one posture to the other, and i lose 2-3 seconds of the workout! also its hard to see the moves from some angles, a camera moving around the person would really help to see exactly what they are doing with a certain move (like their body would cover their leg, so i cant tell if the leg is raised or not, how much the leg is moving, etc). I personally like the music, i listen to a lot of pop music in general but i know a lot of people dont like the songs they pick lol.

Hooked !
I tried the free trail on a whim and after almost a month I'm so happy this can be part of my at home routine now! I wish I found it sooner! It’s incredible how many customizable choices there is for the workouts : what type music / voice over ( or silenced , length of work out , difficulty level , focus of what body part to improve. Cannot recommend enough definitely a life changer ! No equipment required other than a chair for barre you can do it anywhere !

Best low impact workout!!
This is an awesome workout that is based on ballet/barre. I didn’t have any experience with that type of dance and some of the angles can be a little awkward or subtle, but once you pick it up it’s an awesome workout. This is especially good if you have back/neck issues like myself (aka low impact) while still getting a good sweat and toning your body . Once COVID-19 restrictions began they offered a free trial and I jumped on the opportunity. They even extended it for loss of income circumstances passed the free trial and Ben with customer service was very responsive and helpful.

Favorite workout app by far
I love this app so much. There aren’t any obnoxious overly peppy people cheering you on, lol… the narrator is super soothing. You select your workout time and target areas and it creates a workout for you with no fluff, i.e., no intros, no chatting, just gets right to it. And you can save favorite workouts. I’m a new mom who enjoyed barre classes before I was pregnant, and this makes that part of my life feel accessible again. The prenatal app from this same developer was also great.

Needs arms included and some time between transitions.
This barre practice does not include any arm exercises. Thought that maybe Down a Dog had a separate arm app but nope. For arms you are on your own. Also, I have to pause sometimes between transitions because doesn’t include any or i will rewind to get what I’ve missed. which is annoying as I don’t want to have to stop my workout to pause and play. I’d like to keep going seamlessly. I suggest a option to allow the user to choose how many seconds between exercises to move where they need to be. At home isn’t an empty gym studio.

This App is Truly Interesting
Overall, this has to be the second session done and it is interesting how impactful it has been on my body. We are doing small exercises that really make a body sore after embodying the session. I am literally tired just by the few minutes but it feels good being able to feel different muscles being worked out. So, thank you. I am going to keep on with these sessions.

Needs steps for beginners
I love the yoga down dog app so I decided to give this one a try. I’ve never done barre. It needs a setting for beginners that goes a little slower between moves to give time to set up and understand what to do. The transitions are more quick and choppy compared to yoga down dog app. It jumped right in and I’m used to a little more warm up too to get stretched out first. I definitely felt the burn and think the workouts have some potential. It was harder than expected. I’ll keep trying but if some more features were added for different levels of workout that would be great.

No arms
I was disappointed that there was no specific arm segment. It was all lower body and abs. My bigger disappointment was the music. I chose pop and had a song play that had curse words in it. I had to stop my workout and change the music to dance....also had curse words. Rating songs and changing the playlist during my workout is not something I want to do. Also the count down was not accurate. It would count down to zero but the exercise would continue and another countdown would start. Other than that I do like the app okay but it is not as good as down dog.

Best app yet
I’ve tried so many of these apps and they’ve all let me down. This one has wonderful instructions from the voice over and the person doing the exercises isn’t the one talking or making side comments. I love the voice instruction. It’s just like being in a class which I’m no longer able to join because of my work schedule. Great app. Very pleased.

Not Too Shabby!
I love the Down Dog app for yoga, and only during the quarantine learned I was paying for all the associated apps, including barre. I used to do barre a LOT at a local, extremely popular studio. This app essentially works with the same method, and I generally find it effective. Some drawbacks: 1) If you haven’t taken barre before, I could see people being very confused by the form or practicing with incorrect form. Because there is no live instructor watching you, there will be no way to correct this really. 2) There is very little arm work. It would be good to incorporate more arms! 3) The music selection is limited. If you skip through any songs you don’t like and practice for more than an hour, it will repeat the hip hop music. Other than that, during the quarantine I find this to be an effective workout! Worth a try and definitely burns out the leg muscles!

Excellent in-home replacement for barre class!
I tried this app for the first time tonight and I’m thrilled to have such a solid replacement for in-person classes during this uncertain time of quarantining. The cuing is mostly excellent- I did experience a few brief glitches during the final floor/abs set, but otherwise the transitions and exercises were clear and well explained. I loved the music! Thanks for making this free through March! I’ll definitely keep using this app.

Great app
First time doing barre ever and the app was very helpful in getting me started. The exercises are reasonable but also challenging enough that you feel the burn. The option to choose different music and control the voice and music volume is great too. It does a great job keeping track of your routines and if you like a particular one you can save it! Overall great beginner or even intermediate app.

Fantastic
It’s awesome that they offer free services for students, as I currently was very broke. Now I’m completely hooked! I never wrote reviews for apps, but if this review could help anyone who was in a similar situation as I was in this is the app to get! The app's diverse workout options make it a solid choice for anyone serious about fitness. Definitely worth the download for a well-rounded workout experience.

Pure experience
I decided to try this APP based on a gentleman’s review and how he compared it to other exclusive Barre studios. He was spot on. If you’re a Barre enthusiast, this APP will give you the experience you came for. I gladly paid a steep price for the studio experience, but the same offered is being offered in this APP. This app also offers the gentleness of yoga vibe. Classic. Try it, you will love it! Btw I’m not a fan of home workouts at ALL , so this rating from me is significant. 😊❤️

The best
I haven’t tried too many workout apps on the market, but the Down Dog series of apps are amazing. I’ve been using these for a couple years now and am hooked! They’re always improving their content and have some great user studies because the app feedback on posture is always catching me with my mistakes spot on. Music is good, ability to customize settings is also great.

Painful
I wish they’d update Barre like they do Yoga. The exercises are effective, but the algorithm isn’t very good. You’ll completely, inhumanly burn out a muscle group on one side, then immediately switch to the other side and there’s never any time to shake it out or rest. It HURTS. Plus, this was recorded years ago and they’ve never added any new material or options they way they do for Yoga. So, plus 3 stars because it’s a good workout, but minus 2 stars because it’s old and impossible to complete it without taking breaks.

I am receiving this app and several other Down Dog apps while they are offering them free during the coronavirus pandemic. First, thank you! I really appreciate this. I am enjoying the quality of all of the apps - it is fun to choose from various options, but also great to have consistency in the workouts no matter what you choose. I just hope I can afford all of the apps when the free period has finished! Be well!

Absolutely love this app! Love the ability to dial in whatever time I have available and the possibility to concentrate on key areas. I love the pop music selections and the variety is fun. I also love the demonstrations and pace of the movements. I am just a beginner to barre and I’ve always wanted to incorporate the strength of barre training to my workouts. Now I can with the convenience of mirroring it to my big tv with my own personal coach! Love, love, love!

The reviewers are right.
LOVE LOVE LOVE the yoga app, have used it for years but I really hope they give this app more attention and fix it. The instructions are incredibly vague and it has no toggle for beginners and doesn’t seem to hit much of the upper body at all. Maybe it’s the few ones I tried but they were just not for me. What makes the down dog yoga app so special is a bit lacking here. Like another reviewer said, you can do a few minutes and it’ll definitely get you moving but beyond a 10 minute workout I can’t really bear it.

Very good
The down dog apps are all very good. I tried a barre workout today and liked it. The ability to generate new sequences and customize based on personal preference is fabulous. I wish the barre workout had more instruction. In some instances I found it difficult to see exactly what the model was doing. Even if the instruction for various moves were documented on a website or in a reference section on the app I would feel more confident knowing I was doing these moves correctly.

This app is undoubtedly one of the best purchases I’ve made in many years. There are unlimited high quality workouts that are easily adaptable but will make you sweat. Exactly what I was looking for
I was looking for a workout app that would piece together different moves to create a new workout each time! I absolutely love this app and it’s sister apps. I love that there’s direction for each move without any unnecessary boot camp style shouting or repetitive moves. I just did a 10 min glute workout that’s given me more of a burn than anything I was able to find online.

Barre not really for beginners
I spend most of the time trying to figure out how to set myself up for each exercise and then it's on to the next move. I don't know a lot of the vocab for a Barre class either, so it's just really confusing to know what to do. I would love more spoken directions...maybe an option for a slower pace to accomplish this. I felt frustrated most of the time. A completely different experience than the Yoga app (which I love!!).

I’ve been using another barre app after attending their studio classes for a long time but I think I’m going to switch to down dog. It’s cheaper and, other than not much arm work, just as good of a workout. I did an 18 min workout and I felt it! I like that they use real music, not just beats, and that it’s super customizable. I liked the poses they chose and they were doable with a dresser as a barre. I also did their restorative yoga in the yoga app and loved it, too.

Not as good as down dog
Definitely not as good as original down dog app. The transitions are quite choppy and noticeable. On the floor work, they say curl for both curling head up and for curling hips up which is annoying. There is no warm up. The exercises target certain muscles I.e. quads but then there is no stretch for those muscles. It’s a really cool idea and the original down dog yoga app has these issues worked out plus is super customizable. I hope they keep working on this app to get it to that level.
