I’m not certain if the app itself is improved or the iOS version is just better. It worked poorly on my Note last season, but it’s been nearly perfect on the XS Max. The main functionality is essentially their website in app form. It’s a bit quicker to access snow reports and other items through the app, as it is laid out in a more user friendly way. The stat tracker is what has been far improved. Last season it would track only part of my day, if at all. Even the runs that were tracked, they would be some of the wrong ones. Last weekend, every lift and every run was tracked exactly, over both days we skied.
I haven’t been back to Copper Mountain since 2017, but one thing I definitely remembered was the Sherpa app. Tracked statistics for you and gave you location based audio tips. So when approaching a fork in the trail it would give you a brief description of the options. Small trivia about the resort and food and beverage options. It was such a different way of skiing and I loved it. So when getting ready for my return to Copper this season I looked into the resorts new app. It is essentially the website in app form, but does include stat tracking and now friend finder which allows you to create a group and see where your people are on the mountain. All ready to go and was so disappointed the audio functions were completely gone. Stats are comparable to the old app but I sure do miss the tips. Hopefully they bring that functionality back in the future.
The best part is tracking what I have skied through the day. The second best is tracking wherey ski buddies are on the map. Sometimes I use the map but there are so many maps around it's easier to look on the chair lift bar. It helps me on where to go to meet them or if they have gone inside. I don't use it to buy anything. I think you will find it makes your ski day more fun and you can compare one day to the next and one season to the last
Using the copper app and friend finder while skiing made keeping track of the group fun and easy. The GPS system kept very close to actual time so it was easy to head off the kids on the hill and they were headed to a different lift. Very fun to see everybody in your group as they move around the mountain and compare stats at the end of the day. The email that was sent to us all at the end of the day was very accurate and allowed for group comparisons. Very user-friendly app and fun to use. Thank you Copper Mountain!!!
My friend and I downloaded the app and gave it a test ride our second day at Copper. We were asking together at times, and apart with our wives who ski different terrain. With the app, we were able to keep track of where each of us were, and made it easy to sync up at a lift. We also really liked the “ski day” history of the trails we skied, vertical conquered and other stats. The graphics made it easy to read. Nice work with the app!
Updated version for 2023 lacks feedback about speed
I’m disappointed by the fact that it no longer gives you feedback about top speed anymore. A few years ago it actually gave an average speed and also a top speed for the day. The average and top speeds were very nice feedback to have, so it was disappointing when that disappeared, but now that there’s no speed feedback at all, it’s impossible to compare runs to track improvement. I wish this would be revised to include speed feedback again. And if by chance I’ve missed how to access this function, I’d like to know how to find it again.
Love the tracking feature, and the ability to track my family and friends. It makes it so much easier to connect with people on the mountain. Fun challenges, and I can use the app all day and it doesn’t drain my battery.
Friend Finder is the best! The ability to start a group and see where everyone is throughout the day is the most amazing feature. The rest is cool, but that feature makes it a must for anyone skiing Copper!!!
Of course location services was on because won’t let you start tracking without it ....ALWAYS on which is also annoying. Not sure why my location needs to be tracked when I’m not using the app. Despite the fact that Ski Tracks can tell where I am, this app tells me I have a weak internet connection and fails to track or render completely. Spins and spins trying to connect. Never does. Frustrating that they still can’t get this app right. I’ve switched off it completely now.
Do you have to be “on Mountain” for this app to work? I have an iPhone 6plus, version 11.1.1 and there is no content. It doesn’t do anything past the Raised on Copper screen. We’re heading out in a couple weeks and was hoping to do some planning via the app but nothing.... I’m really hoping for it to be available when we get there. Thx for the response - it is still not loading and will crash after 20 seconds of home screen. I have an iPhone 6plus with current operating system... please help
App unexpectedly stops recording vertical , for no obvious reason. It says it’s tracking. I monitor stats on chair for a couple of runs, it’s accurate, so I stop checking it. I hit “stop tracking” at end of day, and it’s only recorded 1/2 of my runs. I had problem yesterday, assumed it stopped automatically during lunch break. Today, no breaks, same run all day, only half the vertical..
Tracking isn’t real time. It gets the lifts right, but which run you took isn’t even close. It can’t can’t distinguish between parallel runs. Far East, tripe treat, it thinks are the same. Also there is a huge lag in where your friends are, often showing someone in east village when they are on the top of the mountain. Sorry, but top of super-b 15 minutes ago, isn’t very helpful.
Great app with updated lift and run data. Tracked not just your vertical but the lifts and runs you hit. Don’t be like me and forget to “START TRACKING “ each day!
Overall it is pretty good. I do believe it over estimates my speed since I compared it to my Garmin Montana and it showed 10 mph higher speed than the Garmin. If is is correct I’m trying out for the Senior Olympics since it had me hitting 60 mph for a 73 year old. The old Sherpa showed comparisons to their skiers on a particular run during the day. Nice to know how you compare. It would be nice to link to Facebook to post data on. It no longer shows green runs on my summary, which makes me look better. Nice to have back so long as lifts are not factored in as green runs.
App is good but the winter season stuff should still be on there. It would be useful in planing a trip. The stat tracker and winter maps should still be on there as a marketing/planning tool prior to a trip. I would like to show people about how it all works. Show what all is offered at the mountain for all seasons.
It drains my battery so quickly if I let it track my location all the time, and that’s the only time it works. You also can’t use Low Power Mode because that turns off background refresh which allows the app to function even if it tracks your location all the time.
I used this app mostly for the Copper trail map, since other features didn’t work properly. Since I updated the app, it crashes after waiting on the logo screen for 10 seconds. I uninstalled the app and reinstalled but no luck I wish I could revert back before the update so I can at least use the trail map!
It's handy when trying to learn more about the mountain especially the trail map. Also, the friend finder/stat tracker is a really cool feature! You don't end up losing anyone for the day :-)
Advertises some cool features. Thought I’d give it a try. The weather app for the mountain doesn’t work and to access the cool features you have to create an account. The maps worked though and showed pretty accurately what was groomed.
Works great on my iPad and laptop, my phone iPhone won’t sign in. Not sure if it’s my phone or the app. I’m giving it s 4 only because I can’t us my phone.
3 in. in 24 hours and 2 in 48?!?! Math a little too hard for you guys? This app is as useless as the employees at copper. This used to be my go to mountain, but the last 5 years the resort is ran about as well as this app. Good luck. Another resort that cares nothing about service and sees it’s customers only as dollar signs.
The app is not recording my days in the “my season” section. Records my days and I can see what I did that day but can’t go back and see previous days. Used it all last season no issues.
Just installed the new update and the season summary is not correct. Was tracking for 3 days and they are in there and correct but the numbers don’t add up on the summary page. Please look into this.
Downloaded for my ski day, but the app never would open. Just stayed on the home screen for a minute and then crashed. Have an iPhone 8 so no reason why it doesn’t work.
I found this app completely useless for trying to find a place to eat. There are no menus and it’s outdated. Some places have changed names and there’s indication of that on this app.
Thanks for getting the app fixed!! 1/26/2018 The latest update (1-14-2018) just rendered the app useless on my iPhone 7+. I deleted and reinstalled with no success. I guess I won’t use the app until you update the update.
Ran into a loop after creating my account, where I was told my account didn't exist, but then when trying to create it again was told my account already existed lol. Took about 15 minutes and a few email codes/password resets before I could actually login. Also ran into a weird glitch where I saw a bunch of code then the app crashed. My main goal was to see my season stats, but I can't seem to find a place to register my pass #. Of course I'd rather see the American Eagle up and running before the app, so just a heads up! On a positive note the app has all the right features.
