Have been using this app every day since I downloaded it. There's more free guided and unguided meditations than you would think. I wish it could log Mindful Minutes in the Health app but apart from that it's great!
Quality of life improved - Well worth my time and money!
I have used the calm app and others similar but not gotten much value out of it. I am a fan of guided meditations but do also like the options for directed sound “free range” meditations. I decided to use the trial period to explore multiple meditation modes and really loved the different feelings invoked for healing vs creativity vs beyond the physical. I feel this is helping me break down my fear of the unknown and get in touch with the real me. This app has been worth every penny so far. My only wish is that the Monroe Institute add more guided meditations. I do mix them up and I’m at about 1 hour of meditation a day which has enhanced my quality of life significantly. As a result of this app I decided to read Robert Monroe’s books which further opened my eyes to the infinite. I cannot express my gratitude to the Institute for making this technology and methodology available without having to go to the institute itself. This is a small monetary price to pay for the peace of mind I have received from this application.
I have been using binaural beats technology since 1996, after my first visit the the Monroe Institute and their famous sensory isolation chamber. My experience in that chamber was so unique that I purchased all the available materials and used them to practice. Over the years I narrowed does my use to 5 or 6 tracks on a regular basis, to good effects. With this app and its ability to custom design your own sessions, I’ve been encouraged to explore more. This technology complements my Buddhist practice quite well, to get in touch with Inner Peace, calm the chattering mind, connect with repressed feelings…. Highly recommended for anyone on a Spiritual Path.
This app is truly exceptional. I have been using it every single day for more than two months and it’s so amazing the amount of benefits I have experienced. The track that I use every day is called “Resonant Tuning”….and with this I have begun to have medium/spirit visitations. I have reconnected with family members, my middle school music teacher who transitioned more than 15 years ago, angels, and students I taught. I can’t wait for a longer version of resonant tuning to be introduced because it’s truly unbelievable how my energy levels are and how it’s expanding my intuitive abilities.
I’ve used raw binaural beats for some time before deciding why not just try the originator of the gateway method. It’s 70$. Started having some profound experiences bordering on odd. Bilocation was pretty neat I sat at a pond near my childhood home and walked back home. People there and everything! What? Although Your results May vary! I think it’s based upon your level of interest ,time spent using the method ,and openness to the idea you are WAY more than you body. I’ve heard there’s a certain level of aptitude involved as well. So do you have anything to lose other than illusion? What can be gained?
I am a fan of the original Monroe Institute hemi-sync tech. I have several of their products. I expected more from this app. Only some have the Monroe sound. There is no way to filter the available recordings. If there is a five star one I haven’t found it. They all seem to be four stars which can’t be possible. The most recent one I sampled was AWFUL! Horrible guide, only a few minutes of music the rest of the time it was just silent, so when the guide’s voice sounded it startled me a couple of times. Not relaxing or helpful. This app is four years old and it is this bad? I even paid for premium but doubt I will keep it. It certainly isn’t worth the price,
This app is worth its purpose and value. Navigating it was a little tricky at first but it has the functions necessary to find and save the preferred content. So many sources for similar content are available but I have loved what the Monroe Institute was offered even before this app was released. Only minor nuisance is after listening to a program and returning to the app, the screen is shaky, sometimes needing to be relaunched. Other than that, no problems. A great aid for daily enlightenment and relaxation.
I’ve been a Monroe Institute enthusiast for a little over a year now. I’ve done the first few sessions of their Gateway Experience which was so incredible I had to stop temporarily to figure out how to best step into myself. I was skeptical about this app for some reason but - if you are ever so slightly inclined, curious, want answers to questions you don’t even know yet - get it. Listen every night. Listen in the mornings. Watch the magic unfold.
I have been a fan of Robert Monroe and his institute since late last year I came across his books. The app is very well designed! I really like the fact that after you are done with your meditation you are encouraged to journal any experiences. My only complaint would be that so far it’s a bit limited in the amount of available catalog, otherwise everything is awesome!
I have used several mediation apps in the past but this is the only one I have felt compelled to write a review on. The sounds and voice guidance is unlike anything I have tried before and can very quickly put me into a relaxed state that allows me to integrate the positive affirmations and guidance. I am very pleased with the purchase and excited for future meditations. Thank you!
very excited about the app! Paid for the subscription. But when I try to open any of the meditations it says that I need the subscription. I click on that notification and it says that I have already paid! Cannot get to the meditations. Very frustrating. Addendum: I was contacted by the Institute and the issue was handled very quickly. Love the app!!
Excellent technology however most of the voices used for the guided meditations are not relaxing for meditation . Just because they are officers of n the organization does not justly using their voices . I would highly recommend this to my patients if you used professional meditative voices that are calming and use hypnotic inductions . Also eliminate negative words from the grammar. The voices and words should be soft , melodic , and calming vs harsh , sharp and abrupt . This has been mentioned by many others in the comments.
Over the year I’ve tried out several meditation apps. Expand is by far the best! It’s many guided meditations include brain entrainment frequencies from the Monroe Institute that get you quickly in a very deep Zen state of consciousness where you can release stress, solve problems, obtain guidance, sleep better and have amazing spiritual journeys.
After update, I was logged out. I emailed the address listed on the contact us page on the Monroe Institute website. I received a response within a few hours with easy to follow directions for reinstating my subscription.
I wish this app were free because I want to share it with the world. The evidence for the techniques used are obvious right away…. But after a week, when you begin to realize a change in your sense of inner calmness, then you know there is something beautiful happening here. Very grateful !
Beyond mindfulness - my new favorite meditation app
I have been using meditation apps for about 6 years, and have given a shot to every one I’ve come across. Unlike many of the Silicon Valley driven, corporate “mindfulness” apps, this dives deeper into spirit, meaning, and purpose (it is TMI after all!). I’ve happily subscribed to a full year already.
The update to fix the bugs has made the app crash repeatedly on all of my devices,not just one. I really liked this app but I had to delete it. I tried to add it back but as soon as I open it,the app closes itself. Tried to click on the support button but it takes me to a page you cant talk to. I will miss you. Stop fixing what wasnt broken.
I love this app. If you have not did your research on Robert Monroe and the Gateway tapes. It may help you in using this app. As a person who has done their research the app is awesome if you are looking for extended versions of the focus signals. The meditations made by the staff at the Monroe Institute are good too. Again I love this app.
I try to use this app daily. The meditations are so helpful for me to center myself . I never meditated much before using expand , but since I’ve started using it I see a massive reduction in my stress levels! It’s a lifesaving app if your interested in diff types of healing meditations .
The app is great!! It’s incredible to be able to get the a wide variety of Monroe Sound Science meditations on your phone. App works great, I use the mix and match sounds plus signals almost every day. You can also create groups and suggest group meditations.
I opened my app and I was logged out. I logged back in and my membership is not working. I fixed this by logging in through email and password. I couldn’t use log in with Apple. I do love this app. I use it daily.
The Blick ad is completely blocking my ability to reset my password? Thinking the ad is coming from your side but who knows sent multiple times same results
I came across the Gateway Experience in the early 2000’s and it changed the way I look at life. When I saw the Monroe Institute put this out I was excited to check it out but unfortunately it’s nothing like the gateway experience. They’re good tapes but it’s not the mental training I was looking for that the Gateway Experience provides.
First off I love this app, but I have been locked out for the majority of this round of subscriptions. It says I have a subscription but someone else is using the receipt. I have tried deleting it and reinstalling. I have tried repurchasing it. I’m not sure what to do and the app doesn’t have any mechanism to contact them. If any one reads this please unlock my app and restart the clock on my year subscription.
On my very first listen, I was able to journey to what, for lack of a better word, I call “the other side” where imagination and emotion combined to bring me a feeling of connection and fullness in my heart. Wow! I’m still feeling the sense of relaxation and it’s wonderful.
You can give yourself!! I have used several meditation apps and Expand is my favorite. I love that I can select varying topics and times. The Monroe products are so helpful. This app has been an amazing gift for me. Thank you.
If you want to meditate and then go beyond, this app is for you. Guided meditations are amazing! Helps you with the practical issues and beyond…The sound science supports you on your journey.
Love the sounds, hate the terrible unprofessional guides. Instead of relaxing I get angry at how stupid their voices and words are. Hire someone else!! Love the idea though very much, hope my feedback helps you improve. P.s. I wish you hired Teal Swan to do guided meditations for this app, her voice is honey and she actually understands what she’s doing.
One of my favorite meditation apps, but the most recent update renders it unusable almost every time I try opening it and nothing can resolve it from my end (up to date iOS). All other features aside, not being able to use the guided meditations is a huge L. Please fix & I’ll be right back at 5 stars!
Have been using this without issue since it first came out until last week. The update has locked me out and a call to the Institute got me a referral to support but I haven’t heard from them. I will make another attempt but am quite irritated that they haven’t fixed this by now.
There is no option to use without cellular data or wifi. So that means if you are listening to a meditation and the wifi or cellular service is interrupted so is your meditation. Being disturbed during a meditative state is very unnerving. I wish they would fix this problem.
Bought a sub, worked for 20 days, logged me out and when you log back on it doesnt recognize your subscription. There is not even a way to log out unless you delete app. Never got it to work again. So cancelled
The guided meditations are great. And the custom timed experiences, it’s almost like you are directly connected to the institute. Feels like it’s customized for me!
Paid for this yesterday, installed the app and signed up. No play - wants more money. I am assuming they will make it right and quickly get back to me...also, I don’t see a way to communicate with them thru the app. Will change my rating dependent on hearing back from them quickly with a resolution.
If I awake in the night I want to use the sleep meditation to get back to sleep.. the problem is the app hangs up and hardly ever opens and loads the meditations. This has happened multiple times! Please fix it! As it is now it’s a waste of time and money.
It seems that the app now requires creating a cloud account to use. I’ve been disappointed with the quality but requiring contact info seems a bit much.
Expand is my go-to set of meditations. It offers a range of topics and lengths that satisfy most of the spiritual and emotional needs I have. It is a real blessing.
Great app, meditations are great. $11 is a bit steep for me with the amount of content but it’s worth it for now. Please add gateway tapes in order to keep my subscription getting payed
I wanted to check it out but they want to collect my private personal identifying information before letting me explore anything. That’s not acceptable. I expected this to be a meditation app? Not cool at all to not be able to skip the first screen.

I paid for a year access and only got a couple months. Almost $70 for 2 months access, couldn’t get ahold of anyone! There’s NO WAY to contact anyone about this issue!
These are very limited and short programs. They are really disappointing for a place that is suppose to be at the forefront of obe and Hemi-Sync. Other programs offer way better experiences and this group really needs to up their programming
