The zooms in and out ain't great. In too far and one may see *exactly* where each Charlie is (or was at the time of becoming). Out too far and the report becomes sketchy and meaningless: markers in my U.S. state vanish. Pour être trop ou de ne pas être...
I just downloaded the "English" version. It's in French. I gather this is either an error on Hebdo's part, and/or they will upgrade it "actually in English" at no charge in a few days for people—who paid—wanted English—but got French. It's okay. I'll wait. Charlie Hebdo worth it. ???
Location services are not automatically set nor requested
The CHARLIE app does not request location services permission when starting it the first time which causes the app to place people in the middle of the Atlantic. It does ask for notification permission so this seems to be an oversight. This might just be an iOS8 issue. To allow the app to show your location, you have to go to Settings -> Privacy -> Location Services. Of course you have to have the general setting enabled. Then look through the list for CHARLIE. You will notice neither setting is set. Select "While Using the App". That's it. You may have to restart the app afterwards.
ISIS WILL NOT TAKE AWAY FRANCES FREEDOM OF THE PRESS WE WILL AL STAY STRONG AND WILL MAKE THESE MORONS PAY I HAVE A DREAM THAT ONE DAY THE CHILDREN OF THE WORLD OF ALL RACES AND RELIGION WILL HOLD HANDS AND SAY "FREE AT LAST FREE AT LAT THANK GOD AMIGHTY WE ARE FREE AT LAST
On your iPhone, go to: Settings > Privacy > Location Services . Scroll down and select CHARLIE, turn on “While Using The App”. Your location will be shown on the app the next time the Charlie app is opened.
It's amazing to see the numbers going up by the second! Quirky at first but now works great. I open it frequently to see local support. Spread the word on FB and all avenues. The whole world needs to stand up to terrorism! Needs a function to post to Facebook.
Racist caricatures that encourage hatred of Muslims that have quietly and fully adapted to French life is definitely freedom of speech, but it is also ridiculous and should be discouraged instead of applauded by white people lacking perspective and any genuine hardships. We all should be angered and heartbroken by the loss of life that occured, but we should be mindful that this kind of crap that Charlie Hebdo published just contributed to making the life of the Muslim/person of Muslim descent in France more prejudiced and difficult than it already is. Sorry, nous ne sommes pas Charlie.
We come to a moment in time where we all gather hands, raising them up above terrorism. We have one voice, we are united. That voice will be heard and we will not be silent. We want peace, we want to make a different world. A world without terrorism.
APP updates number of Supporters .... I watched it grow from 34,500 to over 49,000 in a short period of time .... Highly recommended you download and show your support!
Thank you for your courage to support freedom of speech against despotic non spiritual tyrants ! Time we use candor and throw out these horrible people from our civilized countries !
App isn't requesting access to gps so one needs to manually turn gps on under privacy settings. Also, the button to mark yourself doesn't appear to be working on iPhone 6+.
While its a wonderful idea, I totally understand that it was super rushed. I'm in Los Angeles but my location in the app shows as in South Africa. I was looking for a "Je Suis Charlie" bumper sticker and found this instead. What a great idea.
I am glad to have an app which indicates my support for human rights and the freedom of thought around the world. Thank you. Je suis Charb et Cabu et Georges et Tignous et Bernard et Honore et Michel et Mustapha et Elsa et Frederic et Franck et Ahmed.
Maybe it's not a good idea to display your location on the app. In a world with some people wanting to hurt others, putting a target on your back is not a good idea.
Because "Je suis Charlie" has become the symbol of freedom of speech whatever your beliefs, your country and your opinions, download the "I am Charlie" app and simply state where you stand on today's world map. We will show we stand united together across the world "We are all CHARLIE"
