While there is a way to import a photo of your child & place them in a spacesuit or indian outfit, etc and there is a way to animate that outfit, there is no way to animate your childs picture that appears within that outfit. So, you can "fly" the spacesuit around but you cannot "fly" your childs picture that is placed with in it along with the outfit. Also, there is no way to send a layer to the back or to the front so your child has to know what they want before they start laying up their picture. There is also no tutorials and no way to contact the company with any questions like this you may have. So far, we don't find it is worth the hefty price tag. Yes, it has the potential to do good things there are too many of these small details that frustrate a creative child enough to give up on their project.
I had this working great a year or so ago, but it completely stopped working after a software update. I had to track down the Windows version and use it on PC instead, and haven’t had any issues with updates making the PC version of Kid Pix break. So I guess if you have the option, don’t get the Mac version because it most likely won’t work if you update your computer ever. As far as Kid Pix itself goes, it’s so fun! I wish they’d make a new one with all the crazy technology we have nowadays, like Photoshop but kid-friendly, cuz I’m not very tech savy but love making art with Kid Pix haha.
I had the trial version, and liked it enough to get the full version. When I bought it from the app store, and tried to launch it, it still says my trial version has expired, and I have to buy it again from their online store. Don't buy it until they've got this sorted out. Edit: After contacting customer service, they recommended uninstalling, restarting my computer, then reinstalling from the app store. This worked out well, so this is no longer a problem!
Yes, this app is better than expected! I enjoy it even as an adult because I am into animation for my multi-media books with video and animation that makes books come alive for children. I am a book writer, and I’d love to see the ability to animate drawings if you can’t do so already. Who says you can’t be a kid all over again? Its greater than any basic drawing software out there. Keep up the good work. We need the support page in the event though, people have questions.
This will only work on OSX LION or earlier only. Lion is OSX10.7 so it's not fesible for anyone to be able to load this app. Their website has no solution either. It's a shame because its an AMAZING program. I grew up with Kid Pix and when it worked it was the best thing for my kids - PLEASE PLEASE make an update so this works on newer OSX versions.
I remember playing with Kid Pix on black and white MACS years ago…..I thought it was wonderful. However, this Kid Pix is AWESOME. Even as an adult, I enjoy it just as much as my kids do! My kids love it…I have to pry them off the computer when they are playing this, lol. Yes, it's $50 and it seems like a lot for a computer app but once you get it, you know why it costs so much. It's freaking amazing. Worth the money!!!
I am so happy to finally see Kid Pix in 3D! I originally had the 2D version for PC and now I'm thrilled to see it on the Mac - in eye-popping, beautiful 3D!!!! So far, I haven't found anything wrong with the software. Keep up the good work! :)
I feel cheated! I'm a teacher, so I am working with a limited budget. What a waste spending $50 on this! I bought this version of Kid Pix thinking it would have a lot of new content, but it doesn't. It has all the same stuff as the old version, and just a few new things like a few couple of 3Dish backgrounds. If you already own an old version of Kid Pix, save your money. in fact, I want mine back!
My kid plays this at school, we were excited to get it for our home mac - but it hasnt been updated in ages and doesnt work on High Sierra OS. Don’t know why Apple even lets them sell this on the app store! Boots into a black screen, you can hear sound but much of the app doesn’t function. $40 bucks down the drain, not happy
Kid Pix was the drawing program I used when I was a kid. So I was excited to purchase Kid Pix for my son. This is literally the best full featured drawing app for kids. There's virtually zero drawing apps geared towards kids on the app store for Mac or iOS that come close or contain annoying ads. Please please please update so I can give this 5 stars!
I PAYED 40 DOLLARS FOR THIS ********. I HAVE A HIGH TECH MAC BOOK AND EVEN SO THIS STUPID ******* GAME DOESN’T EVEN WORK!!!! ALL IT SHOWS WHEN I OPEN MY COMPUTER IS A BLACK SCREEN. I HAVE NO WAY OF GETTING MY MONEY BACK. I EMAILED THEM AND THEIR REPLY WAS “Sorry about that! We will get back to you as soon as we can! Thanks for reaching out!” YOU GOTTA BE KIDDING ME!! DON’T BUY THIS!!
I'm the father of the child that was very hopeful about using this software at home. I am also an IT professional and feel quite irate that I just paid $40 for an application on the APP STORE that has zero compatibility with the operating system it was downloaded in.Application goes to a black screen. I ran the update that is on your website for high sierra and it just directs me to purchase a copy of the program that I already purchased. I would like a refund immediately unless there is an actual fix for this issue. For that much money your dev team ought to be working a bit harder being that we are multiple operating systems past high sierra. Total trash.
I've been using kid pix as a "replacement" of MS Paint from Windows and it's almost 10 yeas i ujse this program. Until macOS High Sierra 10.13 the program worked perfectly but now it just now it's glitching black all over the screen. So if you guys still develop this app can you please optimize it? Thank you
This app no longer works correctly on 10.14.6. It was fun for a long time. It does not draw the screen correctly or update. I think it would be worth you guys updating it. Apple should also clean out the store of apps that no longer work, especially ones that cost money.
$40.00 for nothing but a black screen. I really wish i would have read the reviews. I had used kidspix as a kid and wanted to share the game with my son. To bad they can't update thier systems. Now i got my sons hopes up for nothing and $40.00 was essentially stolen from me. They are well aware of the problem from the amount of reviews.
I downloaded this app in February 2018. I use OSX High Sierra 10.13, and the app did not work, sounds played but the screen was entirely blank. I contacted Mackieve tech support and they confirmed that the issue was related to my up to date software, and that they would notify me when an update would occur. 8 months later I have still heard nothing. Waste of money, waste of time, and waste of excitment over a program I would legitimately like to use. Do not buy this.
Not updated for 10.11, Does NOT work at all in 10.13
I love KidPix, well, I used to. First, would not download to my X.11 Mac, so it was worthless to me. I tried again six months later, and it downloaded but a few items did not work as well as they used to. Since then, I have updated to 10.13 High Sierra and am completely unable to edit something that I created a month ago in 10.11. Instead of having a few tempormental tools, nothing is working. This was one very good app, but now it is completely obsolete!
