I’ve been a hearing aid user for almost 15 years and this review may be premature, as I received my Genesis 24s today. (I previously had Starkey I110s, Livio 24s and the Oticon OPN S1s.) The Genesis 24s are a significant improvement over my previous hearing aids and the My Starkey app is a noticeable improvement over the Starkey Thrive and Oticon apps. So far, I only see three needed improvements. Firstly, add a My Starkey complication for the modular watch face. The Apple hearing complication is a poor option. Secondly, provide a way to identify what the audiologist programmed the rocker switches to do. Thirdly, provide the wearer the ability to adjust the tinnitus settings. An update to my earlier review: The app is on the Apple Watch and is opened by pushing the crown in, scrolling to the app and tapping the icon. However, the app doesn’t include a watch face complication for the modular watch face. I’m running WatchOS 11.0 and My Starkey 3.0. The rocker switch on both hearing aids play the turn on and off chimes. I’ll be asking my audiologist if she can make the chimes louder. The preset programs are announced when I briefly tap the left hearing aid rocker switch, but doesn’t announce anything on the right one, something else to check with the audiologist. Lastly, it looks like the audiologist didn’t turn on the tinnitus settings. I’d give the app 5 stars if it had the watch complication was on the watch face.
This is my first experience with hearing aids and apps that connect to them, but, honestly, it’s been going great. The app is easy to use and the personalized modes are really nice. The only thing I’d really like to see added is a widget so I can put a smaller version of the app on my home screen and I wouldn’t have to open the app every time there’s too much car noise and I need to adjust the mode. Great product, keep up the good work.
Virtually never works. When listening to podcasts, often sound is only in one hearing aid. Not consistently right or left. Audiologist said might be glitch with origin or source of audio. Doubt it since Duolingo and Audible are both pretty common companies and have their bugs worked out. Frequently My Starkey app “can’t find” my aids when they are in my ears and phone / laptop is in my hands. I turn on Bluetooth and device searches endlessly for aids. Normally glitches at church so can’t adjust sound. Sometimes I just give up and take aids out of my ears. When they do work, sound occasionally muffled or tinny and cuts in and out. Have been back to provider three times but no resolution. Updates are downloaded whenever I can actually get them to connect. Never again.
The last firmware update fixed most of the bugs. Tap control is still a joke, only works when I don’t want it to, such as pulling a garment over one of my hearing aids. Tapping doesn’t actually work at all. My audiologist “fixed” it, to no avail. The tinnitus program helps significantly, but it’s not a cure. I would be great if it was a separate program, rather than an overlay on one the other programs I like to use for it’s intended purpose. The other wish list item would be to have an Apple Watch app to change some basic settings, such as Edge Mode, answering the phone, volume, music player stop/start, and program changes.
My Mother In Law wears Starkey hearing aids and has been raving over the convenience of the My Starkey app. She has expressed great joy over the control the app provides her making sure she’s hearing her best in every environment.
Terrible feedback issues when listening to music on radio or in church. Have to continuously adjust volume. There is nothing automatic. I’m going back to Signia hearing aids.
I sent in a review a few days ago but it did not get posted. I started using this app a few days ago with my new Genesis hearing aids. I have been using the Thrive app for nearly four years with Starkey Livios. In my opinion, Thrive is laid out better, but the biggest problem I have with this app is the fast battery drain on either the iPhone or the iPad. If the hearing aids are paired with either device, no matter how far apart they are from each other the battery on that device will drain down at least 50%, even when the app is off and the hearing aids are in the charger. I switched devices and paired them with the other device (only one device at a time is supported). The battery on the connected device drains quickly. This is a big problem, especially with smaller phones that have smaller batteries. Update: I believe a recent app update has fixed the problem. Thank you. I changed my rating to 5 stars.
These are great and all but I do have one pretty major issue. It’s not a software issue but a hardware issue. Now since, i am not sure where to leave this type of feedback, I will leave it here. Just about every other day, these things do not charge together during the end of the night. It’s either one or the other that refuses to charge completely throughout the night, only to find out in the morning, one side is sitting at half or less battery life. It’s incredibly annoying. They charge quickly, thankfully, but it’s an issue that doesn’t need to exist at all. The charger clearly shows both have been plugged in, and yet by the morning, one of them is not at full charge. I have tried several things but to no avail.
This app is better than I expected. Sometimes I turn the volume down to zero and then later when I want to increase the volume, the slider is stuck and won’t move. Then I restart the app and it works as expected.
I’m really liking the App and easy use of the menu. Connectivity between my I Phone and hearing devices when steaming music is very poor. My phone is located directly on my belt, so it’s only 2.5 feet apart from my devices no matter which side of my belt the phone is attached one ear piece always breaks up intermittedly. However in AI mode and i place my phone directly in front of my TV soundbar i can walk around my home anywhere and it stays connected to my ear pieces. Hopefully Starkey can improve connectivty with newer versions of the App. I have been with Starkey for over twenty years and i receive new hearing aids every three years. The evolution of all these devices is amazing! Keep up the good work.
This app worked ok until my last beta update (iOS 17.1). Now it (and hear circle as well) will not progress beyond terms of use. Hearing aids are connected and can be adjusted independently of the app. TV profile has disappeared. Update: app is back up and fully functional-I’m a very happy camper. Apple controls are good but this app does important things Apple controls do not. Update: App is now working fine. I’m not sure exactly what happened; I did, however, turn beta updates off. Anyway, I’m glad to have it back.
The hearing aids themselves are great! I didn’t even know my doorbell worked until a few weeks ago. The app….. now that is a totally different story. I have to close and reopen my app several times a day because it won’t recognize my hearing aids. Sometimes it has a message please restart mystarkey. Sometimes it fails so often I just give up on it and take my hearing aids out and be oblivious to the world around me. Also sometimes when I am done texting and I lock my phone screen, I get very bad shrill feedback in my right ear. This only happens when I have been using my phone. It does not happen anytime else.
First let me say I chose to buy the $3500 hearing aids. My audiologist is pretty smart about the aids. They have helped me and I do hear better. I suppose my biggest concern is the My Starkey app. I know the aids are not earbuds. But I have a $5 pair of earbuds that give me surround sound. I purchased a new iPhone 15 hoping this would improve the sound quality from the hearing aids. Has not improved much at all. I have called your customer service and they were somewhat helpful. Please Please do something to improve the quality of your Bluetooth and phone answering on these very expensive devices. And lastly I have to delete and reinstall your app multiple times during the month. If you can help me please let me know.
Low probability these hearing aids are not returned for a refund, and the app is a major reason. The aids stayed connected to my phone while I had them in the case, so I disconnected them to use you tube, and there is no way to reconnect them, or no way that an app- literate person can discover even when searching “help.” Yes, your streaming or music will not be loud enough to hear even with the volume all the way up Worse, theses aids are UNUSEABLE for phone calls in anything but a sterile environment. No option to mute the ambient sound, and I could not hear or be heard. Switched to my air pods, which work just fine.
I have downloaded this about once a week for over a month since getting my Genesis AI hearing aids. It always works for a day or two then just stops working. It says the hearing aids are off when they are actually on and working. The program and edge modes stop working as well as the other functions. I have deleted it and will wait for an actual fix to happen. Reinstalled the app and when it stopped working I rebooted my phone and it works again for a day or two then goes out again. Faster to reboot the phone instead of deleting and reinstalling the app but it should not have to happen at all.
App is controlling the volume/muting when on phone
This must use AI and changing volume while I’m trying to have phone conversations. I had to delete the app and then change to earbuds while on phone because other people saying my voice sounds like I am moving far away and they say sounds like we are in a tunnel. Gotten to point family don’t call me anymore because too aggravating Why is app controlling what others hear, should only control what I hear and that should be me adjusting it, not the app being in control making changes. Is there another app that will work with Genesis hearing aids?
I just went through my first update a few weeks ago. My initial setup with hearing aids and the app went GREAT. Then I got the update and now it is constantly shutting down or disconnecting. Hearing aids start to sound very tinny like coming through a can. Today it is just the right ear. Try to reboot app then reboot whole phone. Turn hearing aids off and power back up. It will not recognize the right ear. Meanwhile the right ear is working at full sound. Very frustrating hopefully they can fix soon or I can return to previous version
Gets progressively worse after each update. Bypassing this for the iPhone hearing aid settings. Responding to the non-response received from Starkey, I’m well aware that I can use my iPhone to adjust hearing aid settings. What is the point then of the Starkey app, recommended by your partners? Do hearing professionals know that the app randomly drops the Bluetooth connection or doesn’t connect at all, arbitrarily changes the volume setting of one or both devices, etc. (read the other reviews)? Short of iPhone failure or battery issues, an app for a $6k device should work. My 1-star rating remains.
Have had to delete and reinstall this app for my husband about every three days…he had been using Thrive with his old hearing aids with no issues but was time to upgrade. Not we are not sure that was a good move UPDATE: Still having issues with your app …. Anytime they find another Bluetooth running they disconnect from his hearing aids. Since so much runs via Bluetooth these days this is an issue…..App is the problem. I am still deleting and reinstalling the app at least once a day ….. if I’m lucky it is every couple of days.
Had hearing aids for about a year now. App seems to be getting worse. Now, almost daily when I put in hearing aids when I wake up on the morning, I have to delete app on phone and re install as app fails to find hearing aids or only finds one. This takes about three- minutes with fiber optic, but if using cellular data, can be up to 19-13 minutes. Irritating for sure. And when paired with phone for taking calls, I hear caller perfectly but caller can not hear me and I have to change phone setting to speaker phone so I can be heard
Since the latest Apple update, the app fails every 48 hours and doesn’t recognize the hearing aids. I used to delete the app and reinstall. Now, I reboot the iPhone every 2 days and the app will work then won’t recognize the hearing aids. I never had any problems with the Resound App. I have the latest Starkey Genesis AI and the app keeps cutting out. I have IPhone 13 Pro Max with the latest updates. Doesn’t matter if I uninstall and reinstall the app. Frustrating! I don’t have other devices connected to Bluetooth and I don’t use or have an iCloud account. Still subpar and doesn’t work.
When the app works it’s great and allows me to control my Genesis AI 2400 hearing aids. But, 60% of the time it doesn’t work at all. ( No recognition that the aids are connected and no volume or any other controls.) The connectivity to my iPhone 14 Pro does work with it’s native app. Thank goodness. But not with Starkey’s. I have contacted the Starkey techies and they’ve tried their best to solve the problem, to no avail. Nice folks at Starkey: smart and concerned. But they just can’t figure it out. My own, unverified, explanation is Starkey can’t keep up with the upgrades to Apple’s iOS.
I got them in August 2023. And They are NOT consistent and break down. My right aid would not keep a charge after 6 months and it had to be replaced. And now my left one won’t connect to the app so they can’t update y to the new version. This really isn’t good. They seem to fade in and out. When I get them seemingly working ok, I lose the settings after charging. The charging station is huge compared to other brands but it’s not able to store the wax filter package. Poor design. If they require filters, why not have them kept together?
Go look at the Phonak app and do exactly that I have a friend who is using that and it’s brilliant. Good golly a 12 yo can do better theses days. I regret getting this aid now. Update May21: response from dev is work with audiology office is really not applicable here and certainly inadequate. The App itself is deficient in many ways. So fix that and blame the office. For example: my iphone and iPad see the aid but for some dumb reason the iPad is always chosen as main device. Give me a simple way to grab it back to my iPhone - btw, hand off isn’t a solution.
I am a hearing aid wearer with a long history of use with Bluetooth and made-for-iPhone technology. My Starkey and Genesis products have been the most stable and most reliable I’ve ever used and worked with. Edge Mode+ is the feature that adds the cherry on top to a fantastic product. Thanks, Starkey!
Must Delete app and reinstall at least once sometime twice a week just to get updates. A restart does not work . Error messages that say “am not able to connect with devices”. What use is it if I have to go back to store for them to adjust so they will work for another week? . Charger was replace already once in 6 weeks now one of my aid will not charge nor stay charged other works just fine.
Constantly losing communication, tired of turning phone on and off all the time because that’s what I was instructed. Can’t rely on , showing right can run down to half in 6 hours left shows 100% . Got new phone thought possibility issue with phone because of age and now is worse, won’t communicate with left at all and doesn’t function at all and of course the office is closed so have to wait 2 days to get anything done.
I appreciate all the features and at some point will be able to seamlessly integrate their functionality to my needs. The App itself however has many problems. The main problem is that it turns off a few seconds into opening it, rendering the experience frustrating. At some point I delete it and reload and the problem remains.
Hello Smart watches are very common now days, I think it’s time to create this app for watches…it would be perfect to adjust to edge mode while in new ambients without having to reach my phone. You guys are the best so let’s stay on top and make it happen👌 thank you
Yeah, this app has some issues. Intermittently it will lose connection to my hearing aids. The only way to reconnect them is to close and reopen the app. I constantly have to reboot the TV streamer to get connected. If video is paused the TV streaming may or may not reconnect. Streaming music through my aids doesn’t work very well. That may be the limits of the aids themselves and maybe not the app. The sound quality and volume is not very good I just use my AirPods, they have a much better sound quality and volume. The biggest issue is when the app loses connection to the aids. Never happens at a good time.
Wish I would have tested other brands! Bluetooth is absolutely terrible! I would trade battery life in a hot second for the ability to even take a phone call. Totally worth less feature. Critical apple updates will render the application useless. I’m running 17.5 which is supported however after update phone will not connect… life was better before this purchase. Currently sitting in their charger as my AirPods are far more useful…
Told by Starkey technician that my husbands ipad is causing problems and he should turn off his Bluetooth or I should stand at lease 30 feet away from his ipad. App keeps shutting down and has stalled out 2 times making me to delete app and install again. The app has slow response time.
Not a bad app. It will sometimes not show my battery percent so I have close and open it again. What would it take to add the battery percent on the opening page instead of having to go to my hearing to see the battery percent. Aldi the microphone slider does not have a percent. I have to go to the iPhone app to see the microphone percent setting. Those two would help a lot. Does the edge mode come on automatically or do you have to manually apply it? I turn on the app and it goes to edge mode when I want to be in personal program. Thanks for your help.
From day one they have brought nothing but joy to my hearing, not to mention what they are doing for my tinnitus. I have recommended them to all my retired military friends. Great product!
I posted a negative review yesterday and I guess they screened it and removed it. Lousy app, constantly unpairing, get a voice over the right HA reciting the programs “crowd, personal, music etc” in a loop that continues even after I delete the app and power my iPhone off!!! Have lots of trouble re-pairing. On the other hand great fit, when it works I have a lot of fine control over the EQ settings.
The concept of using an app to control my hearing aids was one reason I went with the Starkey brand. So disappointed with the functionality. When it works it is great. However, it frequently freezes up at the worst time. Can’t recommend.
Does not work with Translate and will not pair remote control or TV streamer!
Using IPhone 14 with latest OS. Trying to use TRANSLATE, it shows boxes but nothing appears when you activate mic and speak. Remote control and TV Streamer do not pair. Website claims that all the functions work and 2.4 accessories will also work. THE AIDS WORKS GREAT BUT THE APPS NEEDS TO ADD THESE ADVERTISED FEATURES. I have strong wi-fi AND cell signal. HELP!
App not functioning correctly since update. My Genesis showing not connected. I pair them and then next time I check they are not connected. Very frustrating.
No edge mode found on my Starkey as advertised, also no live listen through iPhone for remote listening. Custom programs don’t hold individual volume or equalizer settings , no way to edit or delete existing custom programs Needs updated
Worked on for the first few days, but after a week my left hearing aid would drop connection and I’d have to open up the battery port to reset it. Gotta go back to the VA and fix this. Not sure if it is software or chip related.
Great user interface. This is perfect for hearing aid users of all ages. Really love the simplicity of this app ~ it’s perfect for my patients! Thank you, Starkey!
Have had these hearing aids one week and am getting the message “The connected hearing devices are not supported by this version in My Starkey. Please update to the latest version of My Starkey”…but there is NO WAY to update. Will see audiologist next week and will return these very expensive hearing aids!!! Beyond frustrated!
For the exorbitant cost of these hearing aides (ai Genesis 24) the app used to control them needs to be better. Only one white noise setting is available for tinnitus relief. Can you at least add pink noise as well? This just needs to be better.
