I love this app. I’ve tried a lot of apps that track your food intake, but this app has been the one that is best for using consistently and I’ve been using it for years. It’s simple yet really effective and keeps me on track with my goals. However, one additional feature, I wish this app had the ability to add a widget onto the Lock Screen. The widget on the home screen is great, but the widget on the lock screen would be very helpful and a cherry on top of this grade app. Definitely worth the money in my opinion, but even the free version is very functional and not unusable because of ads (there are no ads on this app).
Seems like a good app, but ~$25 a year is laughable
I wanted a simple protein tracker app, I don’t care about full macros yet, just protein. I was hoping for an app that I could easily add my intake but having a few set ingredients I use daily. The free version has access to One “group” that I used for my morning protein shake, and that’s it. I have to subscribe to add more “groups”, and can only add three “favorites” for easy adding. The “free” version’s functionality is of little use because so much is behind an overpriced pay wall. I would pay $10 yearly just for the convenience, but when other apps offer more functionality and similar ease of use, I can’t justify paying that much for this app, which others (who I agree with) have stated should probably just be a “pay once” premium app, or cheaper at the very least. To the developer: Maybe add a “Basic” tier that allows for unlimited favorites and groups for $5 or something. That way people can use your app for the simplicity and the basics, but also get more in depth info on their intake.
I like this app. The price is very fair for the subscription — other apps want to charge the same amount every month. It’s pretty bare bones, but in a world of excess and bloat, especially with tech, we need more of that. Sometimes less is more. The app does what it’s intended to do with no gimmicks. The search feature is easy to use and super convenient.
I started using this app a couple weeks ago, and I signed up for the yearly subscription a few days ago. It’s so simple and quick! Every other macro tracker is so danged complicated. To add an entry, just type a name and the amount of protein in grams, and done. No “type in a boatload of ingredients” or “look up somebody else’s not quite right recipe”. Totally worth the download.
Perfect for what I was looking for. I was using MFP and found it way overly complicated, and its goal system didn't even work. I opened this app, put in my protein goal, and that was it. Huge win. Has the same "scan food" feature as MFP which is insanely helpful. The "favorite" feature is wonderful as well. And I love the widget. Thank you Protein Pal😎
I’m enjoying using this protein tracker app. I’ve tried others but they were more than involved than what I needed or wanted. I wanted something simple, a plug and play app, to track my protein intake. The yearly subscription fee is well worth the money. You can also pay monthly. Thank you!
Great app if you’re just beginning your fitness journey and all you want to focus on is protein intake. Super easy to use. Very intuitive. Moving on from it since I’ll now be tracking calories and macros in a different app. But loved using this one for the past year.
I’ve been trying to find an easy way to track protein while I build muscle. Other apps are cluttered with other types of calories, but this one is simple and streamlined just for protein. Its Pro plan is also affordable. I recommend it.
If all you want to do is keep track of your protein intake, this does a good job. I don’t pay for the database, but it’s easy to just look at the nutrition label of what I’m cooking. It’s helped me get adequate protein in without feeling like I’m going through the stress of counting all my calories.
Surprisingly quick and easy, straightforward tool that I’m using multiple times a day without a learning curve or frustration. Wow. This is what consumer apps should be. Well worth the cost of the subscription to me.
Does what is says it’s gonna do! I do wish that you didn’t have to pay in order to access some features. But, if all you want to do is make sure your getting enough protein every day, this is a great app!
Yeah you have to pay to search a food etc. Before the dev comes and claims that being bothered by that is unreasonable as I’ve seen they’ve done with others I’ll say this. While I acknowledge you put in work to make the app, there’s other apps that have the same functionality including database and it’s free. So people’s expectations will match.
I’ve been using this for a few days and it’s exactly what I needed. I don’t want all the complexity and fancy features that the other food logging apps contain.
This app is exactly what I needed! No more, no less! I've looked at several protein trackers and they all have time consuming steps that include more than protein tracking. This app is a steal for its simplicity alone.
Had a feeling I wasn’t eating enough protein, got this app to track it and it’s made it so much easier to over analyze food again! Thank you body dysmorphia!
Had to stop using due to Apple Health syncing breaking, less simple entry, time stamps on entries strangely changing, dialogs disappearing when you jump away from the app and return to complete an entry. This 2.x has some promising new ideas (categories, time stamps of entries) but it feels very unfinished and should not have been released without more testing and bug fixing.
I’ve been using the free trial for about 5 days now. I like most all the functions. Except I am finding the food database to not be very accurate. So I am create my own under “favorites” as I go along.
Literally I’ve been wanting to have an app we’re i could just put how many protein I ate in a day so I don’t forget and I can automatically put it once I eat it!!
The app really just does math for you as far as i can tell. I wanted something that calculates the protein in a given item but that’s not the case. I find myself googling to find out how much protein is in something and then flipping back to the app and inputting it. You really could just use your calculator. Maybe they’ll upgrade it ?
I would not recommend this app. For starters, there are pop up ads with every entry trying to persuade you to upgrade to pro, which no doubt makes me desire to do the opposite…In addition to this, you also cannot even scan barcodes or search items without pro? Completely asinine.
You have to look up the amount of protein in whatever you’re eating to add, and the 2nd thing I added was so far off compared to what was on the package 18 g vs 3 g), I decided I couldn’t trust future additions and canceled free trial.
This app is such a rip off. The only thing you can do in the free version is manually enter items. You can’t even scan barcodes. What a joke. The app is definitely NOT worth paying a penny for additional features.
It would be easier to use google to search for the protein grams in an item you are consuming, and using a note pad app to keep track of the total. I wouldn’t recommend this app to anyone.
Literally the worst nutrition tracking app I’ve ever used. The library is basically non existent and there’s a ridiculous limit on the foods you can manually enter and save as favorites to reuse. Even for free it’s not worth using.
For a simple protein tracker that is basically a spreadsheet style concept this definitely should not be a subscription. This app should only be $5. It’s a basic calculator app.
At first I was confused why this app had such a low rating, then I used it. At first it looks very sleek and great, but if you try to log more than 3 items it needs you to pay a monthly subscription. Having such a simple app behind a pay wall is ridiculous. Granted, it’s not a lot of money, but this app would better suit a one time purchase. If the developer reads this. Put in ads, make the payment one time, and let people who don’t pay you use the app. Nobody is gonna stick with an app that needs them to pay, when you can just go find another app for free that does the same exact thing.
If you’re trying to build muscle and need to keep track of your protein intake this app is garbage and not the one for you. It only allows you to put in a certain number of items until it tries to money grab and make u pay for unlimited inputs. Why would i only eat three things. Who is going to pay 7.99 to be able to write down what they ate and the amount of protein it had in it on an app that could be replaced with apple notes.
Protein Pal allows you track your protein intake throughout the day to help you achieve your goals. You set a default target amount of protein and then add protein as you go. You can also set the target for a specific day. You can step back through the history of your protein intake and encourage habits over time. There is a statistics section that will show you over the selected period: - average daily protein intake - a graph showing protein amount vs the target for each day or month - the most consumed protein The pro version of the app offers the following: - No ads - Save unlimited groups - Save unlimited favorites - View complete tracking history & stats - Create more custom reminders - Unlock dark mode Privacy Policy: tenlabs.io/#protein-pal-privacy-policy Terms of Use: tenlabs.io/#protein-pal-terms
