Great map, overly descriptive narration

The map that takes you from work to work is terrific. IMO the narration is too descriptive (telling me things I can already see) instead of informative. Just barely four stars. PS. Sound works fine.

Same as the audio guide at the museum

Folks...same yourself €5 (what you will pay for the audio guide at the museum) and get this app for free. They are the same thing! I verified this with the museum!! Easy to navigate, the app has various tours from highlights to different collections. GPS helps you navigate from area to area (you’ll need to use the museum’s WiFi). Each description is around a minute and gives details beyond what printed signs have. There are also additional details if you want to learn more. I don’t have an art background so I appreciated hearing about techniques of the artist or interpretation of how they used light or symbolism in their work.

Great app!

I always try to get an audio guide at museums and was really pleased to learn this app provides a free one! Unlike a typical audio guide, you could select from a variety of different “tours” and type in the numbers from individual works. I loved the flexibility this provided. We did the highlights tour and a special exhibition tour - both were lovely! Also the app features a map / GPS that directs you to the next work in each tour, which is incredibly helpful for a huge museum like the Rijksmuseum!

Best museum app so far!

We’ve done several museums and sites on our trip, including Versailles, Musee d’Orsay, and the Van Hogh. This has been the easiest to use, allows me to use my own earbuds, and I’ve appreciated the descriptions. I’m not generally knowledgeable about art, and the narration points out just enough background and subtle intent/meaning to make it enjoyable without being overbearing. And it’s free!

Outstanding app

One of the best apps I've ever seen. You tell it how much you want to see. I told it I wanted the quick tour. It knew where I was and sequentially directed me to about 20 artworks. It displayed the artwork on my phone (sometimes it was too crowded to stand in front of the art for an extended time). Meanwhile, it gave a concise audio explanation of the artwork. It was better than the paid tour.

Audio works

The sound works if you turn the ringer button/switch to on (not silent/vibrate mode), and then turn up the volume. 6+ hours of audio if you pick the short versions of everything.

Glad I downloaded

I recently visited the museum and did the highlights and building tours. I found them to be well done and had no issues connecting or with audio.

A Great Museum Guide

I’m a museum docent in Dallas and was recently at the Rijksmuseum with friends. They wanted me to guide them through, but of course I’m not current on the collection there, so I directed them to this app. It is fabulous! The fact that you can go through on several preset tours or choose to explore the works of art by corresponding number is great. I enjoyed listening to the descriptions of the things I missed days afterward. My friends, new to museums, enjoyed the app very much. Highly recommended. Works great; just be sure to download it it your own language.

Best Museum Tour App

I pretty much never write reviews for apps, but this app made exploring the Rijksmuseum super easy and fun. I would highly recommend downloading it for your trip.

Great app

Audio works perfectly. There must be ignorants out there that didn't turn the volume up and later blamed the app for not hearing audio

Great guide for free but terrible sounds

I love this guide and I love that it is free, good to save yourself €5. However I can’t stand the weird whispers they have at the beginning and end of each audio clip. They are horrible and loud.

App Won't Open

I've had this app on my phone for several years and it was a great app. Now, I'm in Amsterdam and all I get is a black screen with Rijks Museum in white letters. I've deleted the app and reinstalled the app and I can't get it to work on my iPhone 6 iOS is up to date.

Just finished a whole day at the museum with this app. Just superb! I don't understand ANY of the criticism.

Can’t log in using Facebook account

My account was connected to Facebook, but this app don’t have option to log in with Facebook.

Ticket purchase concern / missing information

I am attempting to purchase my tickets using the app ahead of my business trip. I can see that the ALL Rembrandt exhibit availability does not align with my trip. So I just want to purchase my general admission tickets for €19.00 each. However, there is no information indicating that if I purchase tickets today, will they be good during my trip. I have searched the app and cannot find anything as to the duration of validity for my advance ticket purchase. I cannot proceed without this information. There should at least be a sentence or two early on in the ticket selection/purchase process with this information. I am disappointed.

Makes a great museum an extraordinary experience

This app, with its guides and extra A/V content, is a work of art. It's got audio guides, clever video clips, wayfinding tips, and my favorite feature--a way to have your favorite artworks e-mailed to you! It froze up a couple times when I moved in and out of WiFi coverage, but it was solved by restarting the app. I have no suggestions. Just mad respect for the dev team. Thank you.

Wonderful!

I am a BIG fan of the Rijksmuseum and all they represent. I downloaded their app at the museum and it did not work. Now it does - and it would have been smart of me to download it before my visit. Great app guided tours with behind the scenes and art information! A must have for the museum goer OR just to take a virtual tour!

Worked great, and loved the audio tours

I used this on my iPhone 6 during a recent visit. I really enjoyed the audio tours, and found the app to be reliable, easy to use, and very informative. Do this, instead of paying for the physical audio guide at the museum!

Excellent

We loved this tour which we rented in the museum on on iPod touch, but it would obviously be cheaper just to download this free app!

Hangs on load screen

The rippling blocks of 4 simple colors on black is mesmerizing. It would do well as an installation on the 2nd floor of Stedemuseum, but as a classical art appreciation app leaves me wanting more.
