I’ve used a SmartDrive MX2+ for a couple of years and have an E2 watch. Using an Apple Watch 7 is a big improvement in some ways but not all. Setup is Apple smooth and battery life and visual interface are excellent. Tap interface, not so much. It sometimes takes half a dozen double tap tries to get going—even though the watch vibrates—and worse, a couple of double tap tries to stop. A definite safety problem and one I’ve never had with the E2. I’ve learned to tap “stop” and switch to manual well before my destination. I’m an experienced tapper and have no such issue with my E2 so don’t think I’m the problem. I’ll keep trying and hope a fix is possible as using an Apple Watch is such an appealing idea.
What reviewer Apjret said two years ago! In the learning tool, I try to get the hang of doing the double tap in a way that it will detect but even with lots of practice, it’s hit or miss. They need to change the sensitivity. Especially given that the app turns off frequently after a short time (another bug)… it’s maybe 100 times more likely to miss a double tap, than detect one that wasn’t intentional so the sensitivity should definitely be adjusted way up!!!!!!!¡!¡i ADVICE: THE APP MUST BE INSTALLED from the App Store ON THE WATCH. At least this is the case if you got a new watch. It CANNOT be installed using the App Store on iPhone or the watch app on iPhone. THIS IS NOT DOCUMENTED ANYWHERE ON THE WEBSITE AND APPLE SUPPORT IS NOT AWARE OF THIS EITHER. IF YOU CAN’T FIX THIS, AT LEAST DOCUMENT IT.
Edit: Changi. My review from 5 to 4 stars. While the all works well on my watch, I am continually disconnecting from the Smartdrive in the middle of use. Otherwise I have no other issues. I just got my Smart Drive and the watch provided was unreliable at best when it came to tapping and controlling the device. With the Apple Watch app, I feel so much more confident using my smart drive without having to have the SwitchControl buttons, as it actually is responsive and works well. Plus, my Apple Watch was already connected to my other health monitoring devices (CGM, heart rate, etc) and I didn’t want to have to wear two watches just to use my wheelchair. So glad that this app is offered!!
The app connects with the SmartDrive quickly after turning on and chimes to respond to taps - but it randomly fails to activate the motor even though it plays the sound to acknowledge the double tap. Sometimes I need to double tap 3.. 4… 5.. even 6 times to get the motor to start - or stop. I’ve stopped using the power assist in spaces where there is limited room to stop after multiple instances where double taps have failed to turn off the motor and I’ve been slammed into a wall (sometimes with enough speed to flip the motor under my chair). In other cases, inadvertent hand motions that were not taps have activated the motor - so often I end up turning off the SmartDrive and pushing manually to avoid. Hate the PushTracker that came with my SmartDrive - needs charging multiple times per day and I find the interface cryptic. I used to use the drive daily, but now it stays off most of the time - I much prefer the AppleWatch, so will continue to leave my SmartDrive off except when I have a long distance to go with ample room to stop….
I got a Apple Watch to use because my control watch was coming apart and this was the fastest way to still be able to use the smart drive. I have used the old style wrist band and it’s far preferable to this app. I don’t know what the issue is but the double tap sequence isn’t consistent. This is a major safety issue. If I have to absolutely stop I turn the watch off instead of double tapping it just can’t be trusted. I’ve switched modes and found the mx2 vs themx2+ will stop consistently but that requires push starting the assist which makes it less desirable for when I’m carrying something.
Got a new AppleWatch, the App is nowhere to be found
I recently purchased a new Apple Watch. The app worked on my old Apple Watch, but despite saying it is purchased and my new watch being paired with my phone, I am unable to find the app anywhere on my watch or the watch app on my phone. I tried pairing to the Apple Watch through PushTracker and it doesn’t install the app. I checked all Bluetooth and security settings on my Watch, iPhone, and in my Watch App on my Phone and I can’t find the app anywhere. As a result, I can’t delete it and try to install it again. Further, all of the support pages on the Permobil website show a 404 error. This is a medical device that people rely on. Customer service should be available and the app should work.
I'm currently using an Apple Watch series 7, and I have been a Smart Drive user for the last several years. I have used multiple push trackers, and a push tracker E2. This app on the Apple Watch provides a much better control mechanism. The interface is simple, intuitive, and very responsive. The install process at first was a little clunky, but I was able to resolve that with a simple reboot of my watch. This issue, and other minor cosmetic issues should be easily be corrected soon this app greatly improves the reliability and usability of the Smart Drive.
I Love the fact that Apple has an App available for the Smart drive The biggest issue I’ve come across through use is the Tap feature. This definitely needs to be fixed! Thankfully I was able to turn the feature off on my watch before I reached the curb leading into traffic.
Hey everyone! I was having an issue that seems to be a common issue where people get a new watch or something like that and are unable to find the app on their watch. I called Apple support and one of the technical advisers helped me through it. You have to go into the App Store on the actual Apple Watch and download it that way. Hope this helps!
*edit issues fixed . If it asks for Bluetooth permission and everything is already set , delete app then install from App Store on Apple Watch not the phone, it will ask then and u can enable. Sometimes if installing from phone it won’t enable permissions and u can’t change . So delete install from watch and your good
The app runs good on the Apple Watch, the battery life is better than the tic watch E2. The app isn’t showing the correct est. range, it says the range is 2 miles even though the wheel is fully charged. On the other watch I had a fully charged est. range was 7 miles. If there’s any fixes for this, please let me know. Other than that, the app is really good.
The setup was smooth . Great speed But sometimes I have to tap 4 or mor times to get it going. My biggest concern is if it doesn’t stop when I tap I hit a wall curb or people. I have hit a few walls lately . I love the AP though cause I can go faster than the manual control. And I don’t get tired . Great product with my Apple Watch Ultra 2.
Apple watch is way simpler and connects every time the only problem is that sometimes you double tap and get nothing to start and even worse to stop the smart drive.
I was so ecstatic to find out about this Apple Watch app. But so disappointed when it would stay connected for more than a few seconds. Made sure I have the most up to date firmware etc. Will change my rating to 5 star if and when this issue is resolved.
Trying to download the smart drive app back onto my series 6 Apple Watch and when I go under apps to download it, it says purchased but it’s not highlighted and when you click on it, it does nothing. I should be able to download it again.
Apparently I’ve already purchased this app however I’ve never tried to use it. And it doesn’t even allow an iPhone 12 or Apple 9 series watch to pair with this app…which are relatively new devices. Little confused at smart drive apps as they seem to be more like dumb drive and obsolete apps.
This app only has a share icon and cannot be downloaded. My watch was replaced and no longer works with my smart drive mx2+. There is no easy to find documentation on how to pair my watch or how to get the app but *I can share the app!*
It would be nice if it would download. It’s saying it requires software version 14 something or higher, which I have (just updated to 16 even) and it still won’t even download. My watch won’t work without it as anything except a sensor for my chair. Fun times.
I downloaded this app but it’s not showing up on my iPhone. I can’t delete it because it’s not there. I can’t download it again because it says I have already “purchased” it.
The smart drive will not connect to my Apple Watch SE2. I’m not sure if it is a technical error on permobil’s end or user error. Of course I can’t figure it out because I can’t get in contact with anyone from Permobil.
I downloaded this app but its not showing up on my iPhone. I can’t delete it because it’s not there, I can’t downloaded again because it says I already purchased it
The App Store shows that I have purchased/downloaded the SmartDrive MX2+ but it is not showing up on my Apple Watch or on the watch app on my IPhone so can’t even use the SmartDrive what a waste of money
Double tap does not always stop the smart drive. Using ultra 2 with mx2 smart drive. Please fix this. This thing is perfect for manual chair. Easy to add to your life. Don’t need wheel chair lift for car. But stopping is crucial!!
Took forever to figure out how to get the app onto my watch as there isn’t a companion phone app. The directions regarding settings are really poorly written so I only figured it out by searching YouTube videos and Reddit threads. When I finally got the watch connected and the settings adjusted, now it constantly disconnects from the smartdrive while I’m in motion. I can get at best a few minutes of assisted motion before it beeps and disconnects. Would prefer to use my watch but I guess it’s back to the wired control knob.
I got my smartdrive 2 years ago. Initially when I received it I hated the fact that the smartdrive was only setup to work with android and there was nothing we could do to get it to work on iOS with Apple products. This was a huge issue for me because the android watch used to work the smartdrive itself really sucked. The interface was not good, the app would constantly close in the middle of my using my smartdrive, and last but not least… the watch would overheat everytime I went to go charge it and eventually the battery life just died out. All these problems are now in the past because the new iOS Apple app has released and now the smartdrive works with my Apple Watch. I no longer have to rely on that android watch to use my smartdrive. The new app interface is awesome and easy to use. Smartdrive is now 10/10 in my eyes and I am super grateful to be able to have it working flawlessly now.
