Spoonful is a great help in going Low FODMAP
I had been researching all the vast areas related to understanding FODMAP, what it was, what it wasn’t, how to understand the role it needs to play in my daily life, how to EVER be able to buy groceries without spending HOURS at the store trying to read all the ingredients on all the items I needed to buy, then have to put those, bad for me items down and find the energy- mentally and physically- to find replacements that were low FODMAP. Yea, I spent over 1 1/2 weeks researching my self into depression because I just haven’t that kind of energy. Then I came across the Spoonful site and learned about their app. Needless to say, I was absolutely excited that one single app does all that work for me! I just use the scanner in the app and scan the grocery store items I want and I find out then and there if I can eat it or not. There are alternatives listed in the app to tell you what to replace that item with. There are items that are not in the Spoonful database of products, which I am more than happy to take pictures of the packages list of ingredients, the front of the package, nutritional section and its barcode and submit it to Spoonful. Spoonful takes action immediately to add the new products and notify you immediately as to that foods rating, let you know it’s been added to the data base and available for every one who scans those foods. I am truly grateful to Spoonful and their app. You can’t go wrong with their help!

My fave list?
I haven't been shopping since I picked this up a few days ago- Where have you been‽ - because I'm immunocompromised. Also my (IBS) gut is absolutely miserable so I don't want to eat or drink more than particular granolas and drink green tea and I'm well stocked on them. Instead, I've been scanning what's around, including OTC meds, etc. Enlightening. (Nary a crash- the woman having crash issues might want to poke around at settings, get rid of location tracking, background refresh, automatic updates, etc when they're not needed and delete apps she's not using. She may want to check her battery use; what's running in the background?) I'm sure you all know it's not as easy as just buying gluten-free because pear juice is in some bread, mannitol is in Bean-o (Bean-zyme to the rescue!) My faves though- why can't I just plop something into it from general lists? Or can I? I don't see how. Please help.

Frustrated user…lack of kind/understanding support from Spoonful
I have been locked out of my account for 3 months. I have attempted logging in 20+ times now and one of two things happen: I never receive an email with the login link or it takes so long for the email to come that the link expires. When I tried contacting the developer I never saw any responses. Then after sending a frustrated email, I finally saw a response from the CMO who was not very kind in his response (apparently his messages went to my junk mail and since they were from his email my attempts to search for spoonful did not pull his messages up). I explained my position and the CMO has continued to interact with me in an unhelpful, unforgiving way. I sent another response asking for someone else on the team to help me and today I received a message from the CMO stating, “It would be best to part ways. There are lots of great apps out there”. He sent me a link to request a refund, but apple requires a refund request be made within 2 months of purchase, which would have been March when I wasn’t having problems. Finally, after calling apple rather than going through the automated online refund request and talking with a supervisor I’m going to get a prorated refund for the remainder of the year, so maybe 3 more months of service refunded. I would have rather had some help logging in and getting my full year of service but I’ll take what I can get at this point. I do not recommend this app.

Low FODMAP not accurate
I’ve been using this app that I paid money for about two weeks now. At first, I was relieved to have it. But I have found it to be pretty inaccurate a lot of the time. And not always user-friendly. But now today I know for certain that it is definitely not reliable. I put in pretzels in the Spoonful search engine. For those to be low FODMAP they have to be gluten-free. Each ingredient in the pretzel also needs to be low FODMAP. (The Monash app gives more detail regarding Low Fodmap ingredients.) After putting in pretzels, the Spoonful app gives many items a green checkmark. at a glance, I was hesitant that these items could all actually be low FODMAP. When I clicked on the ingredients, they were not listed. Many items that got the green check mark were like gift baskets that had pretzels in them. For these gift baskets of pretzels and meats and cheeses to be low, FODMAP, the meats would have to be onion and garlic free. No ingredients were listed for any of the items. I googled one of the pretzel brands to see what the ingredients are. First Ingredient is wheat. Not low FODMAP yet spoonful was giving it a green checkmark. A notation that is supposed to indicate that you can sagely eating that food. Spoonful cannot be trusted.

Completely inaccurate
I was super excited to get this app as I am 30 years old and just found out I have a gluten allergy I all of a sudden developed. There has been multiple things I have scanned and the app says it contains gluten! Yet on the product I am scanning it says gluten free right on it! I’m not sure if some of the bar codes didn’t change and the product did? But I have no use for it it’s easier now because the grocery stores are starting to label their products gluten free next to the price that but I did still have a use for it if I’m at someone’s house or someone is offering me something at work. But I can say I don’t trust this app one bit because it’s been multiple times it’s gave me incorrect information. Don’t waste your money if you get as sick as me or whatever your reason may be. It just a waste of time I bought the year subscription and I have had it since Jan 25th and today I canceled the subscription and it’s may 21. So I have used it plenty. I hope my review helps someone like me who is scared to eat, but loves eating! Just be careful and cook at home. Cross contamination is the worst!

Very Useful Apo
I started a low-FODMAP diet about 6 weeks ago and Spoonful has been a lifesaver when I’m shopping for food, since the FODMAP universe can be a bit overwhelming. I use the scan feature all the time to check whether an item is ok for me. And if an item that I’m scanning doesn’t come up in the Spoonful database, you can easily submit it for them to analyze it and add it to their database, and they are really fast about doing this! Their support team is great—very responsive and helpful. My one gripe with this app is that for many items which have ingredients that are either low or high FODMAP depending on the serving size, the reviewing nutritionist often refers you to the Monash app for details on portion sizes. I wish they would just give the details right there rather than send me to another app. Thanks, Spoonful, you’re doing great work!

Best find so far
After doing some research on what FODMAP is, I found myself so confused! Thank God this app is around! I’m a newbie and the doctor recommended I start this low FODMAP diet to see if it will alleviate IBS. So as a newbie I went shopping and tried to buy things I thought were low FODMAP by looking at ingredients. Well, needless to say after finding this app on one of the articles I was reading, I began scanning the things I purchased and over 50% of the stuff I bought was high!!!! Ugh! I’m just so grateful to this app is around so I can truly see if low FODMAP diet works and hopefully feel better. So far the scanning and search engine are working with no glitch! A little slow but it works! And I’m super grateful! Thank you!!! Update: Saturday and it’s not working!!!! Noooooooooo whyyyyyyy the weekend is when it’s needed the mos! Pleaaaassseeee make it work!

Amazing app
I’d advise you to use this app as an additional tool in helping more quickly figure out if you can or can’t safely eat something. I still closely read ingredients on food I buy, if this app greenlights it. But, it saves a lot of time by barcode scanning and immediately showing me suspicious or no-go ingredients. On one hand, not all data is 100% accurate. But on the other hand, this app has saved me countless hours of standing in stores Googling. And, I found if I report an item as having inaccurate info, the support/dev team is super quick in not only updating/fixing the data, but also in messaging you to say thank you for helping keep data accurate. At first glance it might be easy to focus on all the missing data for misc lesser-known products. But honestly their database is impressive. There are even locally-produced food products that I’ve even found in the app with accurate info attached. The longer the app is alive, the more data it’ll have for us to reference. This is a very impressive app and being low fodmap, gluten free, and lactose free, I’m thankful for Spoonful and I’ll be using it for as long as my body has me eating so carefully (1.5yrs and counting).

Best app for FODMAP diet
Spoonful is immensely helpful when I’m in the grocery store and needing to quickly know what FODMAPs are present in processed foods. There’s even info from licensed nutritionists for a lot of items. If you find a product is missing, you can suggest it and they’ll add it to the database. This won’t tell you what particular foods like apples or Swiss cheese have; the Monash FODMAP app does that. But Spoonful will tell you what is present in say Mott’s applesauce. Spoonful and Monash apps go together very well. The one thing that would put Spoonful over the top is to add restaurant menus so I can know what is safe to order. I’d also appreciate a filter for lactose-free. There is a milk-free filter, but lactose is a much more helpful category for me.

No return info
In the 4 months I’ve paid for this subscription I have never ever EVER had anyone get back to me via email with details of things I’ve submitted !! I’ve spoken back and forth with the support account several times about this to no avail & as nice as he was each time (it was always the same fella), I have as of 5 minutes ago canceled my subscription and frankly, I want my money back & don’t think it’s unreasonable to say so. I doubt they’d do that but I sincerely feel scammed and don’t understand how I am getting correspondence from him but no one ever emails me back about my product info scan submissions & it can’t be an issue of mistyping email address because you have to retype where you’d like them to contact you each time!! This 2 day window must be a 2 year window because I do not hear back from the nutritionist ever and it’s very frustrating! I’m a vegetarian with ibs, I thought this app would be a godsave but all it’s done is upset me.

Useful app, could use a lot of improvement.
Please make this app work any direction a tablet is facing, particularly in landscape mode; the app is difficult to use on a tablet that has a case that is designed for use in landscape. This app is super useful for IBS sufferers, and I don’t mind paying for it, even though the monthly/yearly payments seem gouging, but at least fix your database, search function, and make the design responsive to landscape and portrait mode. I’ve only used it a few days and noticed some items have the wrong photo, or wrong title, or missing information like the brand name in the title for searching (even though the photo shows the brand name). It would also be nice if the app could remember my search settings (ie, for all products, or compliant, etc) since I’m logged in.

Fodmap support
I saw a dietitian for the first time who told me to try this diet for a month. She handed me a couple of papers which said what not to eat and what was ok to eat. I was on my own after that . I was not used to reading entire food labels. I just found this app yesterday and then found the Facebook group. I I spent three hours at three grocery stores yesterday and had no idea what to buy. Thanks to this app I can scan the items and find out if they are low Fodmap . I came home with two loaves of sourdough bread which I can’t eat and the ice cream had hidden apple in the ingredients. I wish I had known about this app and group two weeks ago!

Life changing
I’ve only starting using this app 10 minutes ago and it would’ve been so great if I had opened it a few hours ago before my trip to Whole Foods. I recently learned about my IBS and have been doing research and trying new apps. This one will save me so much time and hassle when figuring out what to eat. They have an impressive amount of items listed, including name brands, and provide explanations about why a product may or may not be low FODMAP. Typing in and/or researching every item on an ingredient list is time consuming. This app is reliable and does the work for you.

I love it, but I wish there was an alpha gal syndrome option
Let me start off by saying I really love this app. There are a few inconsistencies with certain foods (like if they have different flavors) but overall it’s an amazing guide and it’s very cheap. I have alpha-gal, an allergy to any mammal products, mammal byproducts and also eggs. While I can still manage to navigate, it would be much easier if the creators could put an alpha-gal diet option, especially since the number of cases are rising rapidly. Other than that, it’s a really good app and they are amazing at reviewing new products and the ingredients lists. You can even put an item under review if you think there may be a wrong detail.

Great app!
I have Ulcerative Colitis. I have been having a flare up on and off (mostly on) for the past 7 months! It was very rough. Then I heard of the low fodmap diet and decided to try it but felt overwhelmed at the store trying to figure out what was safe. Then I found this app and it is amazing! So helpful and such a time saver. Plus I feel more confident about what I’m buying. I can’t tell you how many times I’ve bought food then realized it wasn’t something I could eat. I’ve been in this diet a few weeks and already I’m feeling way better than I was. Plus I can eat a lot of great food that I wouldn’t have known was safe otherwise. Thank you for this app

More than helpful!
I’m so glad I purchased this app. I was clueless as to how to really begin my fodmap diet. After learning more about what was causing my stomach distention, I was able to scan processed foods to see if they were low fod map. It’s not an easy diet to follow but the Spoonful app has been like having a dietitian with me at the supermarket! An added personal touch is that if you scan an item and if it’s not already scanned in the app, you can send app the barcode and get an answer through your personal email within 24 to 48 hours. To sum it up, this app has been more than helpful to me!

Very helpful app!
I have been using this app to help my mother navigate the low fodmap diet. Learning how to read labels for fod friendly foods is pretty tricky especially in the beginning and using this app has definitely simplified the process! (As much as possible) I came across an item in the grocery store and I was unsure if was a product that would suit my moms diet. I scanned the items barcode and saw it was not in the database. I followed the on screen prompts to send clear photos of the packaging and ingredient list and I received a reply in less than 24 hrs! . Highly recommend this app

Greatest App Ever
This app has changed my life! Being able to quickly, easily and accurately assess the FODMAP levels of food will provide you with the ability to manage this from day to day and over the short term which I have learned significantly improved my condition. I THOUGHT that I was doing well until I discovered this app and it allowed me to tweak and improve my diet which in turns has helped me to feel so much better. A spoonful of good vibes
I’m literally living by this app and have been for probably six months now. Upon having to make many dietary changes due to allergies and intolerances. This app, no joke, has been a lifesaver. I’ve added a gazillion products to the database, I scan everything. Having a tool in your hand that will give you a red-light or a green-light instantly while grocery shopping could not be more important to choosing what will actually be “ok” for you to eat. It makes the hard work just a little easier. 10/10 - Go Spoonful!

App no longer working in store
I was happy with the app for the several months I have been using it. But recently when in store and I open the app to scan an item, a “Complete Profile” message comes up first. I click on my “diet” selection offered and click “continue” but hourglass just keeps going round and round. Won’t refresh even though I’m on store’s wifi. Can’t cancel or move on. I just shut down the app. When I get home I open app thinking I can do it better from my home wifi. But I can’t find the same screen or “diet” choices anywhere. It doesn’t pop up like it does in the store. This has happened 3-4 times now and I have been completely unable to use the app in store. ????!!!

FIVE STARS! this app has been a lifesaver me! i’m four weeks into the low fodmaps diet. eliminating the fodmaps been a game changer for my health, but navigating what is a low fodmap food felt impossible the first week, especially since most of the research has been done outside of the US. i’ve been using the spoonful app since the start of week two, and it’s been amazing! knowing they have dietitians on staff is reassuring, and the folks behind the app are incredibly responsive when i email them with new products to look into!

I’ve had chronic GI issues since I was a 20 year-old and have been avoiding elimination diets like a plague because of the inconvenience and how hard it is too buy food since we don’t really know the ingredients on some of the processed things we buy. Spoonful has made it soooo much easier to show low fodmap foods for an elimination diet my nutritionist put me on and this is probably the first time ever that I’ve truly been able to stick to it. This app is amazing! It’s a perfect complement to the Monash app. I started scanning the stuff we’ve got in our pantry, and was surprised at how many items are already in their database of foods. I was also surprised to find out that the breadcrumbs we’ve been using are high-FODMAP because they contain soy flour. This diet has so many things to remember, and that is one ingredient that I had missed! No wonder my tummy hurt when I ate it! The list of people they have consulting on the app are top-notch in the FODMAP world. If you’re following a low-FODMAP diet, this app is a GREAT find!

Long time suffering alone
I really can't adequately say how much this app has added to the quality of my daily life. There has been so little development in the world of IBS since the addition of the FODMAP. I was diagnosed back in the 80's and have never had anyone respond to my need for help as quickly as the folks behind this app. They understand the severity of this chronic illness that has for too long been ignored by mainstream medicine. They are working around the clock I believe, to help us find the answers in everything we eat and while this task is overwhelming their attempts are nothing short of heroic. If you know of anyone who suffers, do not assume they know of these amazing folks and their wonderfully specialized app! Thank you to all of you at SPOONFUL! for truly making a difference in my world!

I found this app to be very helpful when shopping since you can literally scan item and see if ok to buy! Can’t be any easier! I am so grateful to have found this app. Shopping on low FODMAP diet can be intimidating and time-consuming. Spoonful saves me both time and money. After I was told I had to avoid Gluten, dairy, and dark meat, I went to the supermarket and left completely overwhelmed. It seemed like food shopping would now become a time consuming chore. I voiced my feelings on an FB POST and a good friend suggested Spoonful. I was turned off by the cost; I had never spent more than $10, once, on an app. But time is my most precious commodity, so the $20 has been paid for by the time I’ve saved and is ready to use.

Meh, it’s okay.
I am giving this a 2 stars because of the lag I receive when scanning a product at a store. I also have an app called Yuka which as I scan an item at a store it immediately pops up but for some reason with this app, I scan and it takes a few to pull up results. Also a lot of items that were scanned unfortunately had no result therefore I am giving this a 2. I don’t think it’s worth the money with this hassle. Great concept but more items should be included plus some update needs to be done within the app to avoid the lag from happening.

Getting better
This app has some distance to go - so many products are marked yellow (meaning they don’t know if they’re high or low FODMAP). This is partially because of the complex nature of FODMAPs, since testing is required for each product to be 100% sure. That said, the Spoonful staff/support are very responsive and helpful, and they’re adding new products all the time. The app tells you what ingredients flag a food as red or yellow so you can make your own best decision for your body. This app is a good tool to have in your tool belt while navigating the complex world of FODMAPs.

Overpriced and very slow
Why is the barcode scanning function so ridiculously slow. I use Chronometer and scan barcodes super fast with no problems. But the scanning function in Spoonful is so bad someone needs to submit a bug report to your developers. Why was it even released like this, I want to use it, but its ridiculous trying to get through a whole foods and using this broken app to scan everything. You guys need to fix this, you should be embarrassed about how lousy it works. Why can't you make it work like Chronometer, that works really great... Get it together and stop ripping people off with the poorly developed app.

Spoonful has been such a big help to me as a new member of the “IBS TEAM”. You’ve taken a lot of the anxiety away from trying to figure out what I can eat. Wrong ingredients listed most of the time
I just started the low Fodmap diet based on my doctors recommendation. This diet is hard to figure out and I thought this app would make everything easier. 80-90% of the time, the ingredients listed are either incorrect when compared to the actual product, or the ingredients listed are totally cut short. When they are cut short, things that should be flagged as yellow or red are shown as green since it’s being based on only a couple of the first ingredients. The scanner is also pretty slow. Trying to use this in a grocery store is unrealistic since it will take awhile to register.

Spoonful is one of the only apps i have a subscription for because it’s so useful. I do keep a list of safe foods but when i’m feeling adventurous i can pull out the app and scan an item to know if it’s safe or not as a celiac. I use the settings for vegan and dairy for my close friends as well. they’ve both recently started using the app i talk about it so much.

Beyond helpful!
My daughter told me about this app and it has been a total game changer! I absolutely love the scan feature and use it very often! Now my husband wants to download the app so he can go shopping and make sure that he gets safe groceries for me. I recommend this app to everyone I know with gluten issues. It has been beyond helpful! Thank you!

Great app
My youngest has been forced to go GF. This has been a fantastic tool helping us change our lifestyle to match her needs. If one goes, so go we all. This is a good tool for sure. I’ll definitely share my experience with others. Although I’m a super introvert so I don’t really have others to tell lol. Maybe one day I’ll lose my mind and like someone enough to actually wanna talk to them.

So helpful!
This app saves me so much time by having the work already done. Just scan and you have the information in your hand. If your item is not in the system, you can take a picture of it and they will provide feedback on that item within a couple days. It’s a great app. Very helpful for anyone with food sensitivities.

Sooo Helpful
I started on the FODMAP diet due to many digestive problems. Honestly, I don’t know how anyone can be successful without this app. I open the scan function as soon as I get in a store and by scanning products I can be sure of compliance!! Rarely do I come across some product that is not listed. Now that I am reintroducing foods the ability to view which FODMAP component is in a food is invaluable!!

Amazing FODMAP Scanner App
This app is exactly what the FODMAP world needs! You just scan a product barcode and see what FODMAPs are in the item. I have bought countless products I thought were safe then turned out to have less noticeable high FODMAP ingredients on the label. It’s so much easier to just scan right in the store than for me to try and look it up. I am truly grateful for this app and believe it’s going to keep getting even better!
