Solid, simple app getting better over time
Although the Suunto app has largely been behind Garmin Connect and Polar’s data views when it comes to the application they are definitely invested in improving it steadily. I’ve used for almost 2 years now and it’s gotten much better in that time with many nice tweaks and additions. The personal heatmaps of all sports you do exceeds what Strava offers (only cycling and running on the website version only) and the mobile app route builder is best in class and works perfectly with the current lineup of watches. Would like to see more intuitive trend indicators on key metrics such as steps, stress, sleep or AI/ML insights on patterns in your data hard to find on your own. These would enhance UEx by offering more packaged “action items” for health tracking. Would also like to see more interactive HR graphs for daily HR wherein user can see min and max values and hover on graph at certain time in day to see exact value like Google Fit/Apple Health has with their HR graph. Excellent progress Suunto team and keep up the good work.

Watch Faces & Save/Resume
I appreciate all the hard work you have been putting in to get away from 2 apps (Movescount & Suunto). Love that you can create custom exercises from the app too! But, the stock watch faces are hideous and do not allow for any customization (fields, data, clock format, etc). My Garmin allows developers to create custom watch faces, and even the stock ones you can change the data on the fields, have different clocks, etc. Any plans for this in the near future? Also, my Garmin allows me to save an activity for later and the pick up whenever I decide to spin up GPS again. This is helpful because it keeps one GPS log (and upload to Strava, Garmin Connect, etc. not spamming my feed with more than one post for a climb/hike) and also doesn’t count my “rest” time (or sleep time if an overnighter) as the total activity. The whole point of having a fitness watch is to track “active” time. Would love to go all in with Suunto again. My Core was amazing. But since switching to a GPS watch, these are two huge dealbreakers for me...please address...you guys have hands down the best hardware...but the software is your Achilles heel. PS, huge improvements from the Suunto team year over year and I know you all take feedback to heart. Thank you and keep it up! :)

Just Not Good...BUT Getting Better
UPDATE. 09 AUGUST 2019 Since my last review the app has been working flawlessly. It tracks and auto syncs almost immediately after I’ve ended the workout session. Still only giving 3 stars out of an abundance of caution. If it continues to perform well I will update in a few months. Initial Review: I’ve used the Movescount with my Ambit 3 for a while, and it was fine. I just got a new Spartan Sport Baro (which I absolutely love). But the Suunto app is a mess. Initially it paired with my watch and downloaded activities fine. Since then it will not sync. I’ve followed all the troubleshooting steps and still nothing. Probably the most frustrating thing though, I contacted customer support and listed everything I did, which was all the troubleshooting steps. As I suspected (and feared) they responded by basically cutting and pasting the troubleshooting steps. All of which I did, took the time to write out to let them know I did in an hopeful attempt to avoid that very response. So I’m not sure if they just didn’t read my message or where too lazy to care. Suunto, if you’re really going all in on a useful app that works as you say you are, I have a right to expect more as a consumer. However, I love the free market and their are lots of great products out there and I’ve been an early adopter and a sneezer for Suunto for a while now, but I’ll just have to see how this goes in the next month.

Doesn’t run in background?!
I really want to love this app. Movescount worked but I (and I suspect most of us) only ever used it to set up my watch faces and relay my ‘moves’ to Strava. I love most of the immediate features of the Suunto app, a lot, but two major as yet unsolvable setbacks have me bummed out. One, it won’t run in the background on my iPhone 7 when I’m syncing. I’ll start the sync, and as soon as my screen times out, it interrupts the process and the sync fails. If I go to another screen to send a text, sync is interrupted and has to start over... apparently from scratch. Sometimes I have to reconnect to my watch altogether. Also, the Progress bar doesn’t reflect what’s really happening. For all syncs, regardless of data size (and therefore upload time), the bar appears to proceed at the same rate rather quickly to 11 o’clock, then hangs out there until the upload is complete. So I have no idea how long I have to wait for the activity to upload, which for long runs can be well over 30 min. For an app that’s supposed to replace the universally criticized Movescount, you’d think Suunto would have presented something a little more polished up front. I know they’ll work these out but when we are advised to delete the Movescount app b/c of side by side connection issues, and leap into this app cold turkey, it should be clean. Thanks Suunto. I mean that. Your watches rock, and I look forward to a better Suunto app.

Ambit3 Fail
Suunto forced migration to this app from movescount. I have yet to get my ambit3 peak to sync after 4 runs. It connects and begins syncing and fails every single time before completing. I’ve tried everything and still doesn’t work. I wish they had thoroughly tested ambit3 connectivity before pushing us to this app. Very frustrating. In addition I now have to deal with pop up adds for new watches they want me to buy. Beyond frustrating to deal with ads when I can’t even get my watch to sync. I’m getting the feeling the support and focus for keeping older (more reliable/simple/accurate) watches working is fading. It’s all about consuming more rather than support what’s already out there. Pretty disappointing but it’s all about selling product I suppose. I now have to sync with my computer and cable. Now I will consider Garmin since both Suunto and Garmin constantly have glitches syncing wirelessly. Real disappointing. New suunto models just don’t work like ambit3 peak. I’ve tried them all. Suunto if you read this please support your older loyal customers.

Swimming pace, strava and slowness
Finally it synchronises with strava. Making some progress but it took at least 2 months since the first version I used. Unfortunately data interface is wrong for indoor swimming which is my main use in winter. now strava only takes into account the total workout time as the moving time so pace is totally wrong ( doing many series with many breaks pace can be therefore 30 % slower even though I am pausing the watch). This was not the case with movecount 2 weeks ago. compare to Movescount you change the swimming pace kpi to 1km instead of the watch set up against 100m disturbing and unfortunately no possibility to modify it. Also every time I try to edit one activity the application freezes and is not active for at least 15 sec if not completely dead. Overall I miss Movescount and not satisfied with both Suunto and strava. ( after the problem on swimming pace I checked with my runs and it appears that Strava is adjusting the moving time even if you did not stop your watch. as an example in my last half marathon race strava automatically removed the time I spent drinking at the water stations so instead of 1h40min ( both spartan and official race time ) strava gave me 1:38 ). This issue has been reported for many years on strava support forum and they do not care. I hope Suunto will listen to the comments of its customer base as alternatives are numerous today... and would miss this strong watch ...

Very premature release to market at least for Ambit3
The Suunto app a substitute for Movescount for a bit 3 is a premature release. Sync is slow and takes forever like 40 mins and I am not seeing the data. A phone call the sync fails and we have to reconnect. Profile setting option is wrong in app. Says correct it in watch, but it is correct in watch and wrong and no way of correcting in app. No way we can upload data to the app since there is no desktop version. Goal setting is very very primitive and we can set only hours. We cannot export files or import POI. Really after an year of Movescount crash and burn? There is no mention of this Suunto app in website. It is a picture on slide show. It does not say it is the replacement for Movescount to be sunset in 2020. Very sad if we need half the features we need to go to Movescount, but we need to uninstall it to install this. I don’t think I have ever given a single star nor written a review like this but think after an year with Suunto and Movescount problems and now the much raved Suunto App. Sorry

Made for training junkies
This is a review of the Suunto App, not the watch. My watch is great, but if you’re downloading this app, you probably already have a watch I bought my Suunto watch because I wanted a multi-sport watch for recording my activities. I just want something to keep a log of the things I do. What I don’t need is an app with a bunch of bells and whistles all geared to make me feel like I’m an athlete with comical abilities. Any time I don’t hit a PR, I get told I’m losing fitness. It doesn’t really ding my ego, but it’s annoying that I’m the app can do this, but not something so basic as say, export a GPX file. I just want to move my tracks over to a different app—a mapping app, which the Suunto app is not—but that would mean Suunto has given up on the platform wars. You have to recourse here—the app is the only way you can use the watch. But just know what you’re getting—an over engineered app meant to keep you feeling insufficient so you go spend more money on training gear.

Great Hardware-horrid app and watch software
I’m a geek for these kinds of watches - I have Garmin, Applewatch, Amazfit and a few others. I had an Ambit 3 sometime back but I hooked it to a charger and it died. I was hesitant to get a Suunto again after but I had hear really great reviews about the Peak 9 Pro. I can easily say - I’ll never buy anything other than “Dumb” watches from Suunto ever again. The App is buggy, extremely difficult to add watches (I have 2) and the software on tbe watch is buggy. This is purely a fashion watch for now. Suunto needs to get this sorted or they will be out of business. The app and watch software are so inconsistent that I would never recommend them. Garmin and Apple have their own issues but the apps and watches are consistent and reliable. My Suunto s are just not reliable enough to be a tool for a serious outdoorsman. They are more suited as fashion accessories. The guys that run Suunto need to have a serious think about whether or not they are in the right business. As far as I can tell they have beautiful hardware and rubbish technical acumen. If you read this - Buy Garmin or Apple and save yourself the $400 and the countless hours of frustration of dealing with Amateurs. I also recommend that Apple discontinue this app from the App Store until Suunto figures out how to improve the consistency of the app. $800 dollar wasted and will never come back.

Please Bring Back Movescount
I have the Ambit 3, which I have been using for well over 3 years now. The Suunto App doesn’t support older watch models in the sense that you can’t change your watch displays in the app. You can only do so with newer watch models. This was a big deal for me considering I’m always transitioning from roads to trails. I liked that I could change my displays to show cadence when road running or change to altitude when trail running. I was able to easily change settings and displays on the Movescount app, but now that I deleted Movescount I can no longer do so. It was a hassle to transition from Movescount to the Suunto app, which I could understand, but seeing that it took away a lot of important functionalities I was really disappointed. I hope an update comes soon for us older watch users or bring Movescount app back and allow us to use either or. I really like Suunto, but this has had me second guessing choosing a new brand.

Not for Traverse users
This app is a huge step backwards in terms of speed, functionality and stability for Traverse users. I have a Traverse Alpha and was invited by a pop up in the Movescount app to start using the new Suunto app as it was now supporting my watch. The new app advises that you must delete the Movescount app. I did this and moved to the new app only to find I lost the ability to customize the information shown on my watch while recording an event. Then once I try to sync the event to the new app it takes up to 15 minutes, maybe more. The app starts the sync over every time you leave the sync screen. This is a big problem for those of us who use our watch with only an iPad or phone since you have to reset the watch entirely to go back to Movescount and change the watch face. Sorry for rambling, but I think Suunto has rushed into this for Traverse users. I’m sure the app will improve with time but it is very frustrating as is.

Almost useless for Traverse Alpha
I got this watch specifically for hunting and hiking, since it’s advertised for exactly that. The watch works great, but the app is almost completely useless. The only thing it does is sync your “moves” and even then it does that slowly and annoyingly. This app is quite obviously designed almost exclusively for runners etc. I can appreciate that, but if you’re going to sell a watch specifically advertised for outdoorsmen and women for hunting fishing and hiking, there needs to be some way to actually sync POI saved with the watch. I’ve used the Garmin EarthLink app with my inReach mini and have been nothing but impressed with it. I was expecting similar functionality and intercommunication but have this far been sorely disappointed. I’ll put the watch and app through their paces while deer hunting at the end of the month and see if it’s worth a hoot or if I just wasted a lot of money on a mediocre, stand-alone gps watch.

Suunto app
Guys nothing was quiet as bad as MC it did watch no justice, I was never going to buy another Suunto watch as a result of the software! The watch is amazing now the app is up there!!! Thank you!! Only hassle I’ve had is the retainer hold down insertion strap both broke so strap catches in everything. Bought in China they said they’d give me a replacement strap, but I don’t go there any longer, any ideas, still have receipt for my Ambit 3?? Also I do circuit training 5 times a week, any chance of getting this exercise on the watch, I use CrossFit it’s just not the same. Thanks for eventually trashing MC!!

Horrendous product
This is the worst product I have ever used and I have so much buyer’s remorse. The watch and the app are garbage. They haven’t connected to each other for 2 months despite trying every fix recommended by customer service. I lost all my data from this summer because my last resort was to reset the watch, which deleted everything. Now they pair but won’t sync and the watch won’t even tell the correct time. Completely useless. I had already sent the watch in to the factory for one month for repair. Suunto sent it back without fixing it - they said nothing was wrong. Their app team is just going to respond to this review saying “please contact customer service again”. No, screw this. This was the biggest waste of money and this product is a scam.

Not that impressed
I recently upgraded my Ambit 1 to the Ambit 3 Peak as I wanted to be able to sync with my phone and use the app to modify changes since they were discontinuing the Movescount PC website in near future. I downloaded the Movescount app a while ago but it would not sync. The Suunto app did sync but am not able to use any of its features such as customization of display, route sync, or other essentials. I can upload data and view the routes but far from what the Movescount app slows from my review online. SUUNTO I am very disappointed. If you sell a watch, don’t discontinue the app that supports the functionality. Most Ultra runners consider the ambit 3 peak to be the pinnacle of watches Suunto has made including the 9. Support for the Ambit 3 peak through your Suunto app is paramount!

Needs work !!!!
Still a way to go to make this a high quality fitness tracking app. I love my Suunto Ambit3 watch, but this app was CLEARLY launched too soon!!! And worse, once I loaded it, I couldn’t go back to Movescount!! Current issues that need to be addressed: • doesn’t load my 2.5 years of Movescount data • crashes every time I try to view details on the map of a cycling “move”. • won’t properly import my age & weight from my Ambit3 watch — all my calorie calculations are now wrong! • doesn’t allow me to collapse down all my “moves” into a simple list like Movescount does. • any time you edit a move, when it re-saves that move it takes you back to the top of the list of moves. I then have to scroll, scroll, scroll back down to verify the change. See item above. • when I delete a move from the new app, it reloads again from the watch next time I sync. Ultra-annoying because you can’t delete “junk” or erroneous moves. Movescount did this properly. Things that are good: • upgrade to allow weekly and monthly summaries

Suunto doubles down on bad....
This app is horrible. The Movescount app was bad but at least it had the web interface. They’ve doubled down on their poor tech with this app. If you have an Ambit 3 peak and are looking for some sort of mobile interface. Look elsewhere. Problems I’ve encountered. - the app won’t sync.... at all without having to be re-paired to the watch. Each and every time. - even when finally paired it doesn’t actually seem to sync. I’ve got to use the PC sync to get my runs to appear. - it doesn’t sync my runs to Strava. It synced 1 run out of 14. I had to manually upload to Strava via a fit file, which is a drag and goes something like this: Go to each run. Wait for the app to catch up and show the 3 dots. Export the fit file to SMS or messenger. Someplace I can pick them up on my PC. Download from messenger to a folder. Manually upload to Strava. This might have been acceptable in 2005 but this is 2021. This should be beyond basic. - And there’s no web interface. The web sync actually sends you to Movescount Web for “settings” and “routes” but the app doesn’t actually sync to Movescount web......

Suunto Ambit3 still not synching correctly
Hi Suunto, I work in device communication so understand the complexity involved in making sure that devices talk to each other correctly. I have had the Suunto ambit3 for 1.5 years now. Movescount was working fine, it would not sync automatically with my watch, but I would just need to boot up the app and the sync would start. Moving to Suunto app sucked. No.1 I had to reset my connection to the phone and start from scratch. Lost a bunch of my info because my Suunto account wasn’t available and had to use a google account to login, then that wasn’t available and now I’m back on my original account. No.2 the first time the watch synched, things worked fine. But the app doesn’t start synching with the phone as soon as the app is opened anymore. And now even if a sync is initiated with the watch, the sync fails. I’m tired of starting from scratch. I don’t know what else to do but complain here, and I know you guys are watching this. Let me know what I can do, and direct me to making my watch and my phone work again. Thanks.

Missing key features
The app works to sync activities from my Suunto 9 watch, but I wish or had some key features. 1. A way to “trim” activities. I often forget to stop recording on my watch at the end of an activity and I end up with a recording of driving home in the car at the end of the activity. I wish there was an easy way to trim off the end of the activity in the app. 2. Selective uploading to Strava. I don’t like to sync every activity with Strava so I leave the syncing turned off, but once in a while I have a fast time that I want to share on Strava and I wish I could manually upload and share that activity from the app.

Could be so much better
First, an you get rid of the wheel for the weight? Doesn’t work at all, should be a numeric field. Second, we should be able to create our own tags. This is especially important when we want/need to identify specific gear used during a dive like a dry suit, full face mask, nitrox, etc. This way I can look up all my dry suit dives, as an example. Third, it would be great if either you provided a list of known dive sites or allowed use to create sites and reference those for our dives instead or in addition to using a GPS. This way I can look up all my dives at Shaws Cove.

Does not work for Ambit 3
Unfortunately, this app is total garbage for older Suunto models. I have the Ambit 3 Peak and the only time I’ve been able to upload data is when I first re-sync my watch to the new app (following the Suunto instructional video step by step). At that time, a few of the most recent activities will sync, but the rest do not. If I go out and do a new activity though, it will no longer upload to my watch unless I unpair and re-pair and go through that whole process. I find it totally unacceptable that they are essentially not supporting old models anymore. This is forced obsolescence and an incredibly underhanded way of forcing people to buy new product. I will happily leave the Suunto product family if that is the case.

Big improvement
The Suunto App is a big improvement over the Movescount App. Syncing moves and settings is significantly faster and more stable. The ability to create and set routes from the app is a huge improvement. It’s also a lot easier to make custom sport modes and I can now add graphs to my modes. I would like to see a desktop site that works in stride with the mobile app like Movescount did. I would also like some of the additional functionality from Movescount added (setting POIs, planning moves on a training schedule).

New to Suunto community
There are lots of things I do like about the app. I especially like the interval views for workouts like swim and run where I can see breakdowns in other than default auto lap. For example in swim it shows me the data on my 100 yard sets broken down by 25 yard length and not just 100s also if it’s a longer continuous set I can see the data and stroke for that. So it tracks my 200s, 300s etc. Don’t likes: I can’t preload workouts like I could with my ancient Garmin connect app. App is often unresponsive when I try to add comment or photo Likewise it frequently won’t open workouts when I tap them on the diary screen meaning I cannot actually see all the lovely data.

Don't do it.
Keep your old Movescount app for now. This new app looks good and will be better when they flesh it out but right now it doesn't work well. It crashes when you open workouts. You can't create new workout types (or change your multisport workout since you can only have one active on my watch) from this app like you could with the old one - Unless I'm missing something. Your workouts will stop synching if you navigate away from the synch page and will have to start over when you go back. I will say the layout is better and the stats layouts in your workouts are better (when you can get into them). It looks much better and will be good eventually but it still needs a lot of work.

Terrible
This app is absolutely terrible. I have been a Suunto user for about 10 years, starting with a Vector. I loved my Ambit 3 Peak right up until they swapped from the old app. This new version is absolutely terrible. One update it syncs just fine, another iteration and the watch will not connect to the app...all the while connected to my phone and receiving notifications. So disappointing. Giving this a two star just because I truly do love my Ambit, just so fed up with this app rendering the watch useless. Try their troubleshooting, that is supper fun and doesn’t work. It’s awful. This app is the sole reason I am considering switching my watch out to a competing brand.

Movescounts was still working fine
I’m not pleased with this new app. It looks nice but my Ambit 3 will not completely sync. I’ve tried disconnecting and reconnecting many times and no luck. The practical connection is that I only receive notifications on my watch when my phone gets a notification. However workout data will not transfer. The only way to transfer data to the app is plugging my my watch into the computer. So I’ve gone back to movescounts but, when I try transferring the data to the new app again, I already used my one time transfer. Please put focus on why the data won’t transfer over Bluetooth.

Doesn’t sync reliably, causing further issues.
The app does not reliably sync my Ambit Peak 3. It often refuses to start syncing, takes forever to sync, and my watch no longer believes it has synced correctly, so activities are building up and I’m getting warnings about space. Really, the developers need to prioritize their time on the basics and stop adding pretty features. I bought this watch only a couple of months ago so that’s a pretty big investment to have the quality slip downhill so quickly. Once you get that sorted, would it kill you to let me change my settings from my phone rather than forcing me to go look for my laptop. (Why did I buy such an old model? Because it is supposed to have 200hr of battery life, though that’s another story.) (Note: I avoided iOS 14 because I was afraid issues, though I’ve since given in. Hard to tell if the iOS update or the app’s last update is the reason for the improvement from one start to two given they coincided.)

Garbage app
Suunto needs to get their act together. My traverse alpha will not sync with the Suunto app no matter how many times I do Suunto’s “troubleshooting”. My watch receives my phone notifications, so it’s definitely connected. Every time I try to sync my activities, it says sync failed. Suunto makes great watches, however they are pretty much useless when the app won’t sync. It seems that a lot of other people are having the same issue as me right now. For how expensive these watches are, you would think that Suunto would have an app that works and better customer service. Why did they have to get rid of the movescount app? Save yourself the headache and get a Garmin.

Better Than Movescount, but need 1 thing
I like this app much better than movescount, as you can set your activities/goals. I still have the old MC my laptop to keep my watch updated easily when I charge it. 1 thing missing, I loved the “Suunto Movie” feature on movescount, but I don’t see it on this new Suunto app. I know it doesn’t serve much purpose, but it was my favorite little feature, that I miss. If it could be added that would be great.

Ambit3 Peak not snycing
Suunto Ambit3 Peak synced with Movescount app for years without issue. Switched to Suunto a few weeks ago. Movescount upload to Suunto app was started and completed without issue so I deleted Movescount. Watch will sync with Suunto app enough to see there are 17 workouts to be uploaded. It starts to sync and goes through all 17 workouts but stays that “17/17 workouts did not sync.” Called Suunto support who took my info and said that they’d look into it and get back to me. It’s been weeks without a reply and still the Suunto app syncing seems to not work. Anyone else have this issue? Anyone care to share a fix?

Extremely Laggy App
I have never in my life reviewed an app, until now. Suunto has continuously frustrated me from day one after switching from MovesCount to Suunto App. Suunto has to have one of the lowest quality apps of all the Big Players in GPS/Fitness watches. Specifically, it almost always lags, freezes, crashes, or some variation of them all when using the app. Every update I hope they improve the apps performance and every time I am sadly disappointed. Seriously, how can you compete with Garmin, Coros, Fitbit, etc. when I can’t even sync my watch? I can’t say I love that it takes 5 minutes to optimize my GPS... how about reducing that to 30-seconds? Additionally, half the time I upload photos/write a description, it all disappears and fails to upload. Please get some professional software engineers or app developers on the team to improve this App. I’d like to stick with Suunto as their watches are great, but the App issues may drive me to Coros or Garmin.

Suunto App can only pair with ONE device at a time
Recently, I’ve contacted “Suunto Support,” about the Suunto App’s inability to support more than one watc, and this was their respond: “Suunto App can only pair with one device at a time. However,we believe that pair with multiple devices feature like Movescount App will come in handy for other Suunto lovers as well...” UNACCEPTABLE! Trying to encourage us to switch to the New Suunto App; when it’s lacking big time. Every other brand has this feature, of painting multiple devices, built-in; including the Suunto’s existing app “Movescount.” Seriously, every time, I have to switch devices; I must unpair the current watch, in order to pair and sync with the next?

Excellent App
Suunto has put a lot of effort into developing their platform and with the release of their newest watches (Vertical and Race) are well positioned to grow moving forward. I appreciate the clean layout of the app and great integration with Training Peaks. For my needs the app experience far exceeds Coros and is on par with Garmin Connect when it comes to measuring core physiology measurements. I would like to see sleep data connected to Apple health.

Excellent Piece of Equipment
Update (Fingers crossed) The synchronization issue appears fixed. Consequently, it is only fitting to update my review. Thank you developers! ✌️ _____________ Oh my! The syncing is awful. I apologize but there is no way around how horrendous the workout syncing is. Expect major delays regarding activity loads. E.g., do not expect same day activity loads, or perhaps same week uploads, especially if you perform more than one workout consecutively. Another option is to constantly unpair/repair to see your workouts. This is just a no! Also, the watch looks pricey, but for the cost and the minimalistic software, the performance is unacceptably inconsistent. I genuinely hate giving low ratings because I understand developers work hard. But please, just do better.

Suunto App is pretty much useless
I got rid of my Apple Watch and switched to Suunto Spartan Sport WHRB. This is a hell of powerful watch with pretty much everything a watch can have but the App to control the watch isn't much helpful. Needs to have the ability to add more watch faces. Just like some in-workout displays, watch faces should atleast have 2 more sections that shows temperature and date together. There is no way to know the weather without scrolling thru few pages. This is a huge 50mm watch! Use the space! Suunto integrates well with other apps like Strava automatically which is great. Temperature readings are way off.

Just too frustrating to use
My Suunto Ambit 3 paired without an issue to the app, and then nothing seemed to work. Every time I would come back from a run or workout and tried to sync, the app failed to connect to the watch every time without fail. The only way to input my workouts was to forget both the phone and the watch from the reciprocal device, repair them, and then allow for the data transfer that way. Just an absolute waste of time. I went out and bought a notebook to keep track of what I achieved daily and it is far more successful than this tech.

Mixed review
I chose to Suunto Spartan HR watch over the Garmin alternative primarily because of the how easy I can create and sync a map onto the watch. Overall I have really enjoyed the watch and the features that come with it however, I have been sorely disappointed with the inability to upload complex beautiful work out. This is a standard feature on the Garmin and I believe was a feature in movescount which went away before I came over to Suunto. Add that feature to the app and I will gladly change my review to five stars.

Terrible app
For a navigation watch this has to be the worst possible app interface. I love the watch but it is sad how useless this app is. I don’t even use the watch for it’s intended purpose anymore. You should be able to create routes that are easily used within the watch. Can’t even change settings on the watch from the app as you used to be able to. I’ve given this plenty of time to change but seems as if the goal is to remove features. Create map route, sync, and use route on the watch…this should be effortless by this point.

I love Suunto but…
There seems to be an issue with calculating sleep correctly. I typically sync my watch after waking and it shows that I slept during hours in which I am wide awake. I’ve deleted the app and restarted my phone but no improvement. I’ve even reset the watch to factory settings only to see short-lived improvement. To their credit they are trying to solve this but it’s frustrating because it impacts my training and recovery load calculations.

Syncing is horrific
I downloaded this app after I had already logged workouts on my ambit 3 peak and when syncing it tries to download all 57 at once. Even when I sat there and made sure the phone didn’t fall asleep for two hours it only managed to download 4 of my workouts. The rest failed to sync. One of my runs was able to sync and every time I click the map to see where my heart rate was higher/lower, the app just closes. It’s been a week now and I still can’t view my run on the app. I just went on a run yesterday and have tried four times to try to sync that workout and it failed all four times.

Missing a few things
I’ve been using movescount for years now with my ambit3. It was good enough. I see this app as an improvement but I noticed a few things are missing. The main thing I miss is the “tags” from movescount. I like to track shoe mileage and miles with friends/groups. Tags allowed me to easily do that. I also like to rate my workout and find that feature missing as well. I enjoy the fresh look and functionality of this app but would love to see those helpful features added.

I love suunto!
I love the suunto app and my suunto fitness watch. I mainly use the watch for running and walking and it’s very easy to use. The app is also very easy to use, after your workout, the workout automatically updates right to the app from your watch and I think that’s so cool. I also like the GPS on the app so you can look back and see where you ran that day or share with the suunto community! 😃🙌

Awful app - never synchronizes
I have a Suunto Ambit3 Peak and have been very happy overall with the watch and heart rate monitor itself. However this new app is terrible. It has successfully synchronized activities from my watch exactly ONCE, and that was immediately after I forced a firmware reinstall on the watch. Now it’s back to refusing to sync any activity. On the other hand, the old Movescount app is able to sync and upload activity just fine. Suunto, I spent hundreds of dollars on this watch and if you want to discontinue the only app that actually works maybe you should get your act together and make a new one that WORKS!

Will not sync
I really hate giving such a low rating cause I love the watch traverse alpha. However the app does not work as advertised. I have been in contact with customer support and tried all their suggestions so far. The problem is if there is a recorded activity it will not sync. It fails every time. Until recently I was able to go online to movescount and upload it there and eventually (some times up to a month) it would update to the app. Since we all know they have gone all in on the app it’s impossible to sync my watch. Sorry but it needs a lot of work still!

Problems syncing to Suunto App and Strava
My Suunto app looks nothing like in the previews here, and doesn’t seem to load everything very well. New to app and have the ambit 3 peak, but I just got my Second run tracked and the map is on the app but it still only registers that I’ve done one activity not two. Plus no matter how many times I make sure it’s connected with Strava it doesn’t seem to sync to Strava. I like the info you get from the watch and app but so far it’s such a pain to use and get synced up. Any tips or something I could be doing wrong?

Not good for Ambit3 users
Won’t sync fully with Ambit3. As described by Suunto many features are not available on new platform for Ambit3 users. So far I’m quite disappointed in new platform. I not liking the display and Facebook interface? Seriously? Ugh. Why do my workouts need to be social media driven? Annoying. Will probably go Garmin or just go back to using a basic stopwatch and do math. Tried to go back to Movescount now that won’t work either. Very frustrated. If I knew my watch would stop working in a few years I wouldn’t have purchased. Also, killian and emelie are rad, but I’m not them and don’t need to be.

October 2020 update. Missing a lot of essential functionality
October 2020 update Loses connectivity all the time. I have unpair at least once a week, delete from blue tooth and pair again. Still can or have more than one device and dive ligs still lack essential information. May 2020 update. Last update messed up pairing functionality. Have to restart the watch, forget devices, restart the watch, pair again. Every few days. Cannot set POIs!!! I should be able to enter coordinates. Help refers to movescount which is being discontinued. Cannot have more than one device connected at the same time No way to export the logs No local data storage. If you dive in remote areas, it will not sync. Dive logs are incomplete. Missing weights, location, exposure suit, etc. No web interface. Not very well thought out application. I am surprised that such a good company as Suunto cannot produce a fully functioning app.

Wish I had old movescount app back.
I was optimistic as a changed over to this new version of the app. At first it seemed like my moves migrated over, but getting new moves to sync with the app has been a nightmare. I have success about 25% of the time I try to sync. I have by the letter gone through the troubleshooting steps for pairing, unpairing, syncing, settings, I even completely deleted and reloaded the app. No joy- so I have a couple weeks of workouts that won’t appear in the app, even though it says “synced 5 days ago”. Not impressed.

Do you like ads? Then this is the app for you!
After you pay for your smart watch you get to look forward to ads for other smart watches through this app! Already have the additional navigation and aggregator services you love? Doesn’t matter - you can look forward to ads for other services, like navigation services you’ve never heard of, nested between your workouts! Movescount was great - this is a promotional platform. Don’t buy Suunto products. Don’t download this app. Chose something else. Save yourself the frustration.

Where did all my data go?!!!
I synced my device to the app today. It uploaded the two most recent activities. However, when I look on the Home screen in the app, I see only my three most recent activities and then the next one after that is from THREE PLUS YEARS AGO!! Also, when I update Descriptions and pull down with my finger to refresh the Home screen, the descriptions are NOT UPDATING! Where did all of my app data (>1000 activities) go that used to be on the Home Screen dated between September 27, 2020 to April 18, 2024?!!!!! Suunto, PLEASE FIX THIS ASAP!!!!
