One of the best newspapers in the world with a very good app

I’ve read the Tagesspiegel occasionally over many years and about a year and about a year and a half ago, I began subscribing. The news about Berlin (my favorite city), Germany and the world is outstanding. I find the app very straightforward and convenient. I always read the paper in German. The only thing I have trouble with—and I wouldn’t be surprised if it were my fault—is that sometimes the app doesn’t recognize me when I click on it; usually it does. I figured out though that if I input my password when asked, it takes me to my account, whereupon there’s a tiny script prompt in the upper left hand corner that says something like, “To Tagesspiegel.” (I use mostly Chrome browser.) The prompt is so small and in such light type, it is hard for us older people to even see. I do think the app developer could improve these two basic aspects: help the user to smoothly get to the paper when they click on the app or at most, one more click; and if you get misrouted to any page like Your Account, make sure it is obvious what you do on the next click to load today’s newspaper.

Fast and convenient

I like that the app has a short online version that takes full advantage of the iPad as well as a good PDF version of the full daily newspaper. I hope that the app will in the future be enhanced with features such as video support to provide a true value add over the printed version.

Very good app for a very good paper

Der Tagesspiegel was my favorite Newspaper while I lived in Berlin, and now they are my favorite source of German news. Well written articles about Germany and Europe. The app is easy to use and gives easy access to the most important articles - I like this better than scanned pages of the actual paper.

Tagesspiegel app language settings missing

The appl description says it supports both German and English but I can't find any such setting and a Google search returns no such info - what gives? The web page version comes in both languages.

Cool German newspaper

Excellent research and well written articles. Unfortunately most interesting articles are not for free.

Great functionality and so easy to use

The best newspaper in Berlin just became a snap to flip through, and keep close at all times. App responds speedily and intuitively to page turns/section selection and magnifying/shrinking articles as well. On the SBahn, deep in a coffee shop, or hopelessly cornered at a dire meeting, this will provide a fine reading experience. Traditionalists might really want to try it out - you'll certainly avoid dreaded inky fingers and preclude the need for deft, real-world page flipping under trying circumstances. I hear this method might save some trees, too.

Homesick

Lovely way to keep up with what is going on back in Berlin. I've been gone for about twenty years, but this app gives me my favorite paper from over there here in USA. Oh, and the layout, functionality and navigation are wonderful.

Well done!

Not your run of the mill newspaper app. A clever and comfortable implementation. I read several German newspapers (Bless you, iPad!!) and actually find myself coming here first as I begin my day. Certainly well worth the modest cost in my view.

The fact that the app has an abbreviated version of the newspaper as well as a PDF copy of the full newspaper makes it really useful

Molasses Fest

Every Day it updates enough articles for me to read in a week, but every day I have to wait for it to load the damned articles. I am still trying to figure out how to open articles more fully and the cartoons won't zoom so I can't read the captions. Definitely not a hit for the iPhone. Guess it was designed just for iPad.

Great app

A great application! The only problem I have is the speed. I'm using an iPhone 3G and it is extremely slow. But I suppose that's the spirit of the times and I need to change my phone. :)

Good functioning app - now improve on content, please.

TSP can't decide if they want to be high or low brow. In the middle is in danger of failing - see FR. Politically too conservative for my taste, but not in the Anglo-Saxon style, Still based on reason and not on manipulation, as the FOX or other Murdoch mouthpieces of this world.

Great review

I use it to keep from losing my failing grasp of Deutch. I lived there for 6 years and hate to lose the experience to age and distance. The app is a great reminder for me.

Ich have den Tagespiegel als Berliner immer gelesen . Ich lebe jetzt in den US und deshalb ist es gut ihn auf meinem IPhone zu lesen. Gute App. Great to have as a daily news from my hometown Berlin

Gute fast objective Darstellung der Fakten

Mir gefällt der Stil, da ich viele Fakten lese Auch die Titel sind gut gewählt Spiegel heute weist in der Überschrift auf die Differenzen zwischen Deutschland und Frankreich hin, für ein schlechtes Beispiel

Was für eine Bereicherung

Endlich eine Hauptstadtzeitung, die diesen Namen auch verdient. Tolle Artikel, super Recherchen, immer am Puls der Zeit und trotzdem sympathisch, nahbar und authentisch. Online mein liebstes Nachrichtenportal! Lokal verwurzelt aber in der Welt zu Hause!!!
