Thanks to the WHO app, I am able to get Iowa news. It’s weird to live in Iowa and mostly hear Minnesota news and politics. Except during the primaries. Once that is over, we will be back to mostly news from Minnesota.
The main page of this app is a vomit of local news, national news and a LOT of paid advertising. I got this app with the idea that I would have up to date/pertinent news information from my state first and foremost....then accurate up to date national and breaking news. This looks like somebody took random handfuls and news and just sprinkle them wherever they wanted to. Very annoying to the point where I will be removing this out from my device.
I love the fact that 13 news has a free app to watch live news! This is my favorite Iowa News station for the 20 years that I’ve been in Iowa. Hate that it takes 2 hrs for me to watch a 30 minute or less news program! The app constantly freezes and plays more of the ad well instead of the actual news!!! Plz! Plz! Fix this issue cause this app will Be Awesome and Get a 5 ⭐️ rating!
The app doesn’t play video very well. Most of the controls are very different from other video players. The most frustrating part is not being able to rewind videos. If we can land a person on the moon, why can’t we rewind the video?? (That last part is in jest, but seriously I want the rewind button/scrubbing).
I don’t know what they did recently in an update, but the app freezes up now while waiting for ads to load. So, app freezes, ad never loads, reader is frustrated by getting mid-story and having to force quit the app. Please, look into this. It’s too bad to not be able to get my local news from you guys.
I would give this app less stars but that is not possible. I live in central Iowa and have strong wi-go connection. The live version of the news cuts out in the middle of almost every story. It is maddening to try to watch. I would not recommend this app if you want to watch live news on a mobile device.
I enjoy reading articles, and the new app makes that difficult. It is so distracting to have a video autoplaying right above where you are trying to read. I would appreciate the choice to pause the video, or not have it autoplay.
If like me you would like to be able to watch news and weather through this app, I recommend you find another. The live stream crashes constantly and is unusable. I recommend trying another network app.
I had my news app for years and now it just opens to black screen. I have tried everything. Uninstall and reinstall, restart and open and close. Nothing works.
Tried to watch a video where there were multiple videos for the same story and 2 or 3 commercials started playing and I never got to watch the video I wanted to see.
Ever since the update, the weather temperature and precipitation chance are always the same. I.e. if it’s 38° out then chance of precipitation is 38%. No one is addressing this. Please fix!
After this last update, streaming won't start. Oh, of course I can see the commercials, but live-sreaming won't work. Don't update to this version!!!!! I wish I could go back. UPDATE: Four days later, I am happy to report the live-streaming is back up. With the new features added in, this is a solid news app.
If I could rate this app zero stars I would.. horrible, horrible app. Live video player is a joke and rarely works well. Why can't news channels actually pay for someone to develop good websites and apps???
I really like this app. You can do about everything here that you can in their website. That includes seeing the top stories, and watching the live streaming broadcasts. The problem now is when you go to watch the stream, there are big black sections inserted above and below the actual video, so it can be distracting, and difficult to be able to make it full screen. This is really bad on an iPhone, and moderately bad on an iPad mini. This has been for the last few months, I thought it might get fixed, but not yet...

When using news apps in the Des Moines in Cedar Rapids area this is the worst I've seen for accessibility with voiceover the bottom tabs are not labeled buttons are not labeled nothing is done correctly to accessibility standards the app developer local LLC should be ashamed of themselves and excluding a community of users who would love to use your app seriously how can you not include about oh 50,000 Islands in your app usage yeah that's a lot of blind people you're excluding the iPhone is very popular with blank people because the voiceover and you're excluding them from your application you should be ashamed
Still don't like the navigation. It isn't obvious that you can click on the 3 lines and scroll through a menu to go to weather or sports, etc. I usually just stay on the headlines screen. In the past month, when I click on a story to read it, it starts playing the video even though I have not clicked on the picture. This is super annoying!!! I like the blogs and would like to see more of them, but they frequently refer to a picture or video that is supposedly posted with the blog, but it isn't there.
The last version at least had live video that worked 90% of the time. Too good to be true. Short lived. Now I get a "Safari can't open this URL" type error message when I click on "Live Video!" That live video was a big reason I downloaded this app. FREE is fine, but even a free app is no good if it doesn't work. Will be deleting this app after this review. This app is worse than the grammar of most of the WHO meteorologists. This could have been very useful and good. Spend a little more money and get a good, working app WHO.
Up to date news, weather and live streamed news app. Would highly recommend it to those wanting breaking news or those who want to catch up on news and what is going on in the viewing area.
Always glitching and resetting to home screen. Can't even read HS football scores without it glitching so I can't move to the next page and the Subway ad is ridiculous, I've hit this 100's of times inadvertantly because of the design which I imagine is good for your impression revenue from Subway, however it is skewing your numbers and scamming Subway. I am deleting this app because the glitching has gotten worse and it is no longer functional. I am reluctant to even give this app 1 star.
This is a 1995 web site ported to the iPhone. No video, news stories are mostly straight text with a few stray photos, and a page of still weather graphics. This is an application with the look and feel of something that was rushed out the door so that the tv station could say that they were first in the market. They should have spent more time to do it right.
This app either freezes for 30 seconds or more or just decides autonomously to close down. Your journalism is ill-served by this digital disaster. Let me suggest that you review KY3's platform in Springfield, Missouri, or Chanel 19 in Cleveland. Their stories are presented in groups of 4 or 10 tiles per screen, their apps work smoothly, and they're just a lot more user-friendly. UPDATE on 27 Dec 2016: Thanks, WHO, for making this a functional application.
I don't expect much from a local news app but this is poor. The only video is a live stream as the newscast airs on a website outside the app. The ad on tv makes it look like you can get videos on demand. The weather maps are static and look like something straight from 1995 and the sports scores are glitchy and crash. Love the station, but they need to find a better developer?
Up until this update, 13now was the inferior tv news app in DM. Now it's easily on top! Nice changes! The feel, flow, functionality (quiet hours!)- all very good!
7/5 update causes app to freeze and not open. Had to delete and reload. Drop the blogs - uninteresting. It's a 'News' app. We watch WHOTV and would like the app to improve. Update more frequently.
I've Been watching WhoTv almost every morning since The age of9 (now 21), but when it came to the app, I had to download the Kcci app for mobile local alerts. I use to love Kcci's layout until the recent update. Still, I'd use Kcci over Who13 app. Again, I love the WhoTv, but they need a better app.
Too much scrolling to find an article. Once you find one that sounds interesting, half the article is missing. Don't count on reading any stories in its entirety. Also, can't play videos on landscape mode anymore so you're stuck watching it in a small video box and it's hard to see. If you haven't updated yet, DON'T DO IT!!!
This app used to be really good-with local, state, national, and entertainment news. Now it is just local news-which doesn't even contain much. WHO-TV is still my choice to watch on tv for news, but unfortunately, KCCI is my news app, now. Please make it better! App won't let me submit a review, now!!
The application takes longer to load and then once loaded the app crashes. I wasn't even able to open the app at all. Looks like others are having the same problems.
Developers still fail to listen to feedback regarding landscape viewing. I use it on my iPad and am now forced to open a safari tab to get to the info. Such a shame and reflection of poor work quality. I'll be going to KCCI app until these guys figure how to develop apps.
This app is put together well. Except that there's no sound in video. I've tried it all: cranking volume, restarting ipad2, reinstalling app. Silence. Don't waste your time with this clunker unless you only want to read the written stories and check the radar.
I don't know what's wrong with this app but something is. I can't read full story it cuts off. Also I am redirected quite often to a different site. Very annoying. It's worse with the new update
I only use this for high school football scores to see how others are doing while our game is on. It would be nice if you could separate the scores by conference or like on tv post CIML separately.
