Very effective app for learning new vocabulary. In two months, I have added hundreds of new words. But this would make the app better… If it was American English. Is it British English or bad English? If there was a way to “submit a suggestion“ because I speak Spanish very well and found several translation errors. It would be better if the language focused on every day functional words. I found myself sorting through lots of useless vocabulary, like medieval words, and uncommonly used. I would also like the ability to “repeat words“ on demand to have more frequent spaced repetition for the words I already learned. Not only the 20 words a day. I purchased a two month program (glad I did), but I will not be renewing. You would’ve made more money from me if you had a simple $9 a month membership. Instead of the scamming pricing structure currently used.
Good for building vocab. Doesn’t provide context of words which can be frustrating. I don’t always know if I’m being given a literal or direct translation or something that has the intended meaning. Adding an option to be able to view the definition of the word and maybe a few example sentences would be extremely helpful. Perhaps my biggest gripe is I have no clue what dialect I’m learning. Vocab varies from country to country and region to region and I simply have no clue what I’m learning in that regard. I think adding country or region indicators to words if they’re specific to a place or letting people choose a country to learn from would be nice. There are also some translations that don’t quite make sense to me. For example, toilet was given as “taza del wáter”, literally cup of water. I’ve seen el váter used for toilet before, but never this. It worries me because I know there are a lot of different translations for this, and the fact I’m getting none of the usual ones is weird. It also makes me worried about whether or not I’ve been receiving less common or even inaccurate translations for other words. If it’s a a regional thing, having that clarified would be nice.
Downloaded it based on the ads showing immersive video learning features, but opened it up to find that it’s just an extremely simple vocab app with no activities at all, not even providing context, definitions, or example sentences of the words you’re translating - literally just having you repeat words until you learn them. It’s fine if you want an app for that, as it does let you choose your experience level and choose what categories of words you’re interested in learning which is nice, but beyond that there are no features that I would think warrant the subscription price. Maybe an okay app for a very new beginner just wanting help memorizing words, but if you’re more advanced and looking to learn more grammar or conversational Spanish (like the ads show) this app doesn’t do that at all. You’re better off with Duolingo which is free.
The app is a good concept, and I was excited to try it, but it’s got to be the most shady, and unethical way to sneak people into their most expensive plan. I never received the reminder notice before my card was charged, and never received a notification to “make sure your notifications are turned on for this app”. Nothing. Only to find out after the $80 whammy, that I could’ve signed up at a MUCH cheaper plan. Tried to file a dispute with Apple, tried to contact the customer service to request a refund. Nothing. Just received a reply from y’all justifying that, because I agreed to it up front, that the fact that they had a cheaper plan available (that you do NOT disclose) that they can’t do anything. Total scam. They are tricking customers and with-holding information. Whatever benefit this app offers is completely overshadowed by the deplorable business practices they are using. Apple should remove/ban them immediately for that.
As someone who’s trying to learn Spanish on my own through a few apps, and immersing myself in Spanish media I think this one is worth it for the yearly cost. At 181 days it’s a lot of vocab and phrases, but I am starting to recognize more and more. It doesn’t help with conjugation thus far, but I do think it’s a good one to have in your tool belt. And I’m lead to believe once you reach basic literacy with 5,000 words it really gets into it. That remains to be seen. Though if you’re serious about learning, don’t let this be the only app/avenue of studying you use. Good luck with your studies.
Loved the simplicity of learning modules in the app
The app provides only four words to learn at a time which works perfectly for me because it doesn’t seem you are encoding a lot of new words at time. Grouping and chunking words i think is they way to especially when learning new information which can be overwhelming. It is also very accurate on listen your response and can tell if your pronunciation is not on point. It’s also cheap compared to other famous apps like Duolingo and Babbel. Loved the app!
Nice, app. Very handy and easy format to follow and use. I am giving 4/5 stars because the spaced repetition is only available once per day. This should be available to use at all times in my opinion.
I put 5 stars on this app because in my opinion it’s better than Duolingo. First of it helps you understand the words and what they mean by having you repeat it if you want to. Next you can can choose what you want to learn from communication to shopping or even traveling they even have this thing we’re you can put the words translation in a slower speed but that’s all you should definitely try it out.
I really like this app. But I won’t be renewing after my 2 months. The spelling part is sooooooo tedious. They don’t give you a proper keyboard they give you a random pile of all the letters in the word or phrase and you have to tap each letter individually. And if you get one wrong you have to do it all over again before you can proceed. If they had the option to skip the spelling entirely I’d renew. It’s so tedious you literally spend half the time on the spelling. And it’s not enjoyable. It kind of stresses your brain out like trying to find the letter “f” out of 15 different letters. And again it’s not a keyboard you recognize, just a hodgepodge of letters. Too bad because apart from that it’s a great app. Just give me a toggle switch in settings to turn the spelling part off and the problem would be solved!
I used this app today and I don’t know what differentiates it from Duolingo and Duolingo is free. The app itself is fine but if Duolingo is offering the same or better for free… why not duolingo? Also, I could be wrong but I think I downloaded this app off of an ad that showed movie clips in Spanish but I have not yet encountered any of that type of activity yet. That is an activity that would differentiate it from Duolingo and maybe make it worth paying for
I’m about a month in and I’ve learned almost 200 words/phrases. I took Spanish in high school and college….28 years ago. This has been a fantastic way to brush up on old words learned and add to my vocabulary.
I have zero interest in writing in Spanish. I can’t spell well in English, I have no interest in learning spelling in Spanish. I want listening and visual matching for vocabulary. But you cannot skip spelling with this app- if they left out Spelling I would continue with this but I HATE SPELLING. And spelling is NOT needed to learn a language. They advertised it a match words and pictures, would have really enjoyed that.
Finally A Language App That asks you which words you already know so that you don’t have to go over the same introductory vocabulary. I vibe with this training method!
This is a great app; I’ve learned so many new words. However, I’d prefer to have English definitions so you could think about the translated word in Spanish. That way, it’ll help with your memory.
The words are selected to give you a variety of helpful hints on how to express them. I’m thankful for the trial the closer o get to the trip to Barcelona, I will pay that fee weekly , now it’s too much
The trial ran out before I could cancel and I was charged $30 for 2 months, but looking at the options, there is another option of $13 for 3 months. Business practices like this aren’t cool. In terms of the app, doesn’t seem to offer anything different over the other language learning apps.
When I finished many exercises the app would freeze. The only way I could fix it was to completely turn my phone on and off. I reached out to support and never heard back. Waste of money. Was helpful before it started freezing.
This is not a free app with ads. It is a 7 day trial then a required paid subscription. No where does it say they before downloading and being forced to answer a host of questions under the guise of tailoring the app to you but are really nothing but marketing and fundraising questions.
Not worth the money. They showed a fake Instagram add that was not a feature of the app. It’s literally just an extremely slow vocabulary quiz which is not worth any subscription
Got caught slipping and didn't cancel in time. Hit for $80 and apple won't refund. If they'd change it to a more reasonable rate they'd have less disgruntled customers and higher rating. Their price model is killing their ratings. Sad.
The first session I learned four random, unrelated words (brotherhood, booking, discount and parents). Utterly pointless and useless. I’m trying to cancel my free seven day subscription after 15 minutes. I’ll let you know how that goes.
App is nothing like advertisements. Total sham. Nothing more than vocabulary flashcards when an immersive reading and listening experience is advertised. Don’t waste your time.
It said cuenta conmigo = i am in Im just a learner but con is with. migo maybe friend Cuenta maybe count or story.. idk.. But how any of that is I “I am in” So I googled it and it means “ count on me” …so what else is wrong?? Listen the app isn’t bad if I could trust it. But I’m not here to waste time to get confused.
