This app is a little useful because you can see what will be available to you on the flight. However, since Aer Lingus charges for in-flight Wi-Fi (something which is not made clear prior to taxi), pairing it with the seatback will require you to pay to connect to the plane Wi-Fi, which in my opinion is not worth it.
I found this app functionally limited in that some features require you to link via bluetooth to the console (privacy concern) or that it just didn’t connect and come up even when the phone was on inflight wifi. After issues on all 4 flights I just gave up and resorted to using the in seat console. I’m not saying it does t work at all, just that it’s so non-user friendly or difficult to connect for so long that you just give up and use in seat functionality. Already deleted it from my phone.
Downloaded prior to take-off and was able to open & view available movies and shows…but the moment we took off the app would no longer open or work on either my iPhone or iPad. I tried various options for the seven hour flight to get it to work (restart devices, cycle Wi-Fi on/off) and nothing…just a big green Aer Lingus screen that never opens. Useless app. Engineers and developers need to fix this ASAP. Test it on Wi-Fi on the actual airplane and figure out why it isn’t working.
I thought this would be an alternative to using the seatback screen to watch movies. All it is for is to choose your movie without touching the screen. But it’s not going to be available for us as the Wi-Fi is not available on our flight.
I wanted to see what’s available for my flight later this week. Aer Lingus recommends the app to see in-flight entertainment options, but it doesn’t recognize the flight details. Then when trying to see all in-flights movies it reads “no content available.” Why did I download this? If this doesn’t work on the flight, I’ll delete the app.
Would not pair with the seatback system on a US-Ireland flight, on either iPhone or iPad. on one device, wouldn’t even load past the splash screen. Disappointing as I was relying on this app to entertain a child not tall enough to comfortably see the seatback display. Aer Lingus: spend the money to do this kind of thing right, or just don’t bother.
There is no benefit that comes from using this app. It was frustrating trying to figure out how it works, then I realized that it does nothing. My flight did have Wi-Fi, and I was connected to it, I allowed the app access to my local network, but there is no way to sync the seat back with the app.
I see others saying this as well, but honestly, Aer Lingus would be better off deleting this app than keeping it up here, making them look like they should fire their entire IT/development staff and replace them with someone who knows what they’re doing.
Shocking that any commercial enterprise would release a product so shoddy as this. It's ok to have limited functionality as part of a robust product development mindset, but what you put out should work. Deleted before we'd even left the gate.
Said to download per my seatback screen but “not available on this flight” was the message I got. No food menus, no entertainment choices… only flight info. Deleted it before even taking off.
Tried on multiple flights, asked staff, it’s useless!
On multiple transatlantic flights I tried this, asked staff for help, and it didn’t work. Embarrassing to Aer Lingus, either really fix it or just remove it.
Flying from IAD to Dublin and kept getting inconsistent messages saying either I needed to be onboard (I was). Or that my flight couldn’t be found. App totally useless
I’m on the plane in the Wi-Fi. The app will not pair with my screen as promised. Nothing happens when it opens. Just an endless Aer Lingus launch screen. Worthless!
Seatback told me great things I could do if I downloaded this. Once installed "not available on this flight". Great way to launch an app if you want to tank the reviews.
The app does an excellent job of showing you the Aer Lingus logo. Unfortunately, I don’t classify a splash page with a logo as “in flight entertainment”. F-
The previous review said it all… I’m flying DUB to SEA on July 23 and the “seat back” is not supporting a connection to the iPhone XS Max. So I agree… useless 2. Deleting.
I thought Ireland was a tech savvy country? Was this app designed and built in Afghanistan? It’s about as useful as a wet blanket. Can I get my 25mb back?
Downloaded the app, it says “next “ to pair the device but there is nowhere to input the code. Terrible design. Did these guys even test this thing? Embarrassing.
Aer Lingus needs to figure this out as it’s a terrible customer experience. The screen on the seatback says “easy peasy” to connect. Just enter this code. But even after following the instructions very carefully, connecting to Aer Lingus WiFi, etc., there is no place to enter the code. It gives the customer the sense that something is broken. If I were just to use the screen in front of me and not this app, I wouldn’t think anything was broken.
instructions on screen and in-app are terrible. They give you a pairing code, but bluetooth does not connect. another review indicates it i uses wifi, which doesn't make sense at all. i think the system is meant to use bluetooth but it's just broken. junk app.
With the Aer Lingus Play app you can you can personalize and view your in-flight entertainment content and create playlists prior to a flight. Once onboard, just connect your device with the in-flight entertainment screen and enjoy your flight. Once you connect your device, you can also use it to control your seatback monitor, as a second screen to watch live television, and track your flight with the inflight map.
