I love backroads travel but this app is really not great. I can’t find it in the App Store, I occasionally freezes into a white space and has to be closed and reopened, and the on the ground trip leaders have no ability to update it with changes. It is hard to open as the user is sent to Ride with GPS with no explanation and there is no way to have more than one trip open simultaneously so if one loss a new one, one has to go back through the entire routine to get the other one! Also we he links only come in email with a NUMBER of the reservation, not the location of the trip which is super confusing. And finally, the actual dates of “day 1, day 2 “ etc aren’t displayed which is just ridiculous.
It’s not very often you come across a tour company that has their own iPhone app! Well, guess what, here we are! This app makes their touring experience soooo much more enjoyable and navigable. Thanks Backroads! Update: thekrak77 doesn’t seem to understand that the whole point of this app is meant to supplement the entire touring experience for those who book trips through BackRoads. Unless you have a tour booked through BackRoads, then there isn’t any reason to be using this app.
I am using the app to review my trip I finished two weeks ago. I am thrilled to be able to do this now that I have a bit of time. Seeing the route maps after having completed the rides is great. I can visualize and remember each day! I just hope I won’t be denied access any time soon so I can continue to reminisce, and share how great Backroads was with my friends who might be interested in coming next ime!
Useful way to capture route info, cultural information (do miss the paper sheets a little bit), information about restaurants, spa treatments and local language phrases. Kinda wish there was also an app for trip selection/cataloging but this app does it’s job very well.
This is nothing more than an outdated RideWithGPS with a Backroads label slapped on the screen, and it hasn’t been updated in over a year. Don’t waste the space on your device. RideWithGPS will open all the same shortcuts and provides all the functionality, and maybe a few more features.
Not very useful. They send the routes right before the trip. If you plan to go to your destination early you may miss some recommendations for trip packing.
This works well for a nice companion for a Backroads Trip. Worth noting that it is meant to be used once you’ve booked a trip with Backroads. I was given a code after signing up for a trip a week before my trip started and could preview all the options and days of my vacation. The daily options, interesting articles and ability to preview the route options from my phone, even without service was perfect! It helped me feel like I was in control of my vacation while the Trip Leaders took care of everything. This is a no frills solution and it worked just great!
It simply does nothing. It displayed information at first, but then when I tried opening it later nothing happened. So I used the BR link and code and it displayed all the information. But the next time I tried opening the app there was nothing there again.
