This app is pretty much what you would expect and want out of a bar prep mobile experience. A super convenient way to drill multiple choice before bed, a decent way to watch videos, and a not very effective way of doing anything else. I’ll express a specific gripe in hope for a fix. The video player for downloaded videos is much better than the player for videos when streaming. Why? You’ve already built a better player. Let me use it at all times! Anywho, I appreciate the robustness of the all everywhere else. If the video player was consistent, this would be a 5 star app.
There were some small bugs with the video player, but it worked okay the first day. Since then, I haven’t even been able to log in. It says “error while loading learning plan” every time. Having an app that doesn’t work looks way worse than not having at app at all. Update: the app has started working again. As long as it keeps working, it’s great. The 1L lectures are really helpful. An update that provides for CarPlay features would be awesome for those of us commuting.
The iPad app could be much improved to contain all essay assignment prompts and the library. A port of the website would be better in some respects. Accessibility settings should be universal rather than requiring it to be set for each assignment. An overhaul of the user interface is needed. Unnecessarily complicated with menus hidden and missing automated diagnostics. The absence of the multiple choice question bank in the app is a huge issue and should be fixed. Would be wonderful to have question on my phone during the commute.
I thought this app would be similar to the online platform that allows you to access your bookshelf to do readings and complete assignments. I’m using it on an iPad and it makes no sense why the books are not available. For the amount that we pay for this course, you’d think they could hire a better developer to make the course materials accessible. The app also constantly glitches and won’t even let me access videos or quizzes online, and the download function is completely nonfunctional. Extremely disappointing and I’ll definitely be recommending other prep companies to my friends taking the bar in the future.
The app allows for downloading of solely the audio portion of lectures, and this is great (e.g., perfect to listen to lectures again in spare time outside of study hours). However, the app does not let the user select a specific module to listen to, unlike how it does when watching videos. Furthermore, it also does not remember where the user paused a given audio lecture. Lastly, if the app had a CarPlay feature for downloaded audio lectures, it would make listening on the go much easier. If these changes are made the app will become significantly more useful.
Usually when I open it, it loads forever and never gets to the sign in page. If I do, it is basically useless because not only can you not download the videos for offline usage, they will not even open when you are online. All you can do is mark tasks as complete. It is seriously the most useless app. It’s so much less hassle to just login on safari - I have no idea why they even created this app. Thank god the website hasn’t been crashing as much as I hear it used to because if I had to rely on this app I would surely not pass.
I have been trying to study for the past week, sadly at the moment my laptop is out of commission so I’m using my iPad and using the app offered by Barbri to study for the Bar. I can’t play a single video. It’s not my wifi, and I’ve tried it on data as well. It won’t work on a phone, it does not work on iPads. DO NOT try to use the app to play the videos. They WILL NOT play. I guess everything else has worked though which is the only reason they have two stars instead of one.
I almost never leave reviews, but this app is easily the worst I have ever used. The content inside is obviously great, but the problem is that half the time you cannot even access it. Even when I login under my own WiFi network, it still says “error loading learning plan”. The most frustrating experience I have had with an app thus far.
I have to uninstall and reinstall the app every time I want to use the course after I haven’t used it in a few days. For some reason it completely empties out your downloads and shows no items after being logged in for a few days and logging out and back in does nothing, just gives you more errors. uninstalling it and reinstalling works but it’s very frustrating to do that then redownload the courses you already had downloaded for offline.
This app is great, when it works. I would say that more than half the time I try to use it the videos don’t load, the assignments don’t or, or the app itself just won’t open. Being able to depend on the app would make bar prep much easier, but I just can’t rely on it to work so I am stuck bringing my computer with me everywhere I go.
Often the videos won’t play, navigation is not intuitive even when it does work, and app often does not open at all but freezes on the barbri logo. In fact I just deleted the app and I’m redownloading which is what brought me to this page. Extremely disappointing especially given the cost and reliance on the convenience.
Newest update now prevents me from watching or listening to any lectures on the app. All my downloads useless. Hope there’s a fix soon. Edit: Fixed as of 12/19
As others have said, the videos don’t play in the app. I can’t tell if it’s the app or something on the backend, but these videos just won’t play. I waited five minutes and it finally started playing audio only with the video frozen. It would be nice if the app worked.
Videos are fine but don't touch a quiz on the app unless absolutely necessary
I've lost progress on two quizzes at this point. Completed on the app but it doesn't save, so I have to start again on my computer. It's so ridiculous. I don't have time to be retaking quizzes I already completed.
I really really wish this app would work. It’s my biggest dream. It just won’t. It always says it couldn’t find anything and loads nothing. This would be such a powerful studying tool if it worked. If Barbri could invest in this and specifically make the MCQ available on the app, I would recommend them in a heartbeat. Disappointing
I’ve been able to open the app once in over a month. I recommend Adaptibar for the MBE videos if you want to be able to actually watch videos on the go. Not being able to use a phone app is unacceptable for a program that costs over $2,000.
The app doesn’t work half the time, requiring you to uninstall and reinstall it. Furthermore, the app struggles with streaming lectures, regardless of how strong your internet connection may be. Honestly, this app takes a hard L as it fails to reach the “bar” set forth by the industry—what a shame.
I need to download lectures because I’m studying in location without internet a lot of the time. The lectures will download audio only, disappear, or just refuse to download 90% of the time. I’ve spent more time trying to download the lectures than trying to watch them on this app.
Been using Barbri for a month, and the apps have not worked for any of that time. At the moment, it won’t even open! They have the worst technology of the bar prep companies. They probably need to scrap this app and make a new one at this point. Barbri is too expensive for them to have apps that don’t work at all!!!
The app automatically crashes whenever I try to load up a video. Even if I download the video first, the moment I try to play it, the app crashes. I’ve tried restarting my phone, reinstalling the app, and ending all background processes. Nothing works. I am using an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
Every time I want to use the app I have to delete and redownload it because there is an “error loading learning plan” when I try to sign in. Also can’t collapse video to move to another page without pausing.
1) causes iPhone 14 to over heat when listening to audio. 2) video sections are cut off and cannot be viewed, for example, real property hypo 7C correction. 3) audio does not resume where left off. 4) password won’t save. 5) clearly meant only for desktop, app is a complete afterthought.
For the amount of money you spend on a class, you would hope the app would work. Mine doesn’t. I spend a lot of time in the car, so the app features were a large part of why I chose Barbri. Nope, can’t get it to work.
Iphone goes to sleep and stops playing video. Have to unlock the phone and restart the video. No video control from Lock Screen. Most apps that play video have the sense to keep the phone from sleeping during playback.
The app I paid the most for access to and I can never access it. Logs me out. Remember login does nothing. Constant errors when you use the app not the site but the site is trash on mobile. Should have gone with Themis. What a shame.
The app constantly stops working with an error message. Using the bookshelf is horrible. Very limited tools and sizes. The higher is completely impractical. The note’s constantly glitch or just do not appear.
App not smooth. It does not go back to where I was when I stop something. Always back to the main screen. I would like to be able to stop for calls or meetings and go back to where I was.
New version old version. I have to delete and reinstall all the time as I get error messages trying to sign in. Suffering with this the entire time I’ve been in law school. Could be so great if the app worked better.

Constant bugs. Have to contact tech-support to fix things literally weekly. My last review saying basically the same was deleted. Wonder if this one will post…
I wanted to read using my iPad for law preview, but this app does not support it. Just use google chrome browser which will work. NOTE - Safari dues not work
The app crashes anytime I try to play a downloaded lecture. Not sure what the point of having downloads is if they don’t work. Was planning to study on a plane but I guess that is impossible now.
For the past two weeks, the app rarely opens on iOS v16.2 (phone) and iPadOS v16.3. Stays on the initial loading screen. Very unsatisfied with the lack of mobility of Barbri’s. Regulated to laptop use only.
