I don’t know anyone who thinks studying for the CPA is fun. BUT... I 100% think studying is much more enjoyable when I can take my quizzes, ebook, and lectures out to the park, pool, the car etc on an iPad instead of having to stay tethered to a computer indoors all day. The program is excellent because you can download any material you need on wifi then access all of the material offline which later syncs to all your other devices to update your progress. Finding the mobile app was a real game changer for my quality of life In response to concerns raised by other comments: - I’ve been able to sign into three different devices at the same time no problems - As long as you’re connected to wifi or cellular data your progress should immediately sync without issue
I like to read and write in the margins on my iPad when I am studying. I was very disappointed to learn that it is impossible to download a PDF version of the Becker textbooks onto an iPad. The only workaround is to download the book onto the app and write within the app. However the Apple Pencil software does not work with the Becker app. So you can not tap the Apple Pencil to switch from the pen to the eraser. Also if you swipe with your finger on the app it will think it’s the pen and will make a mark when you did not intend to do so. Finally, the downloaded book on the app does not maximize to the screen size of the iPad. It expands within a separate window that you have to scroll within. If you accidentally touch outside the window the book will close. For the price paid it should be easy to access my material and study the way I want to study. I have a Ninja subscription and they allow you to download their book and notes in PDF form and I believe Gleim also allows this. Because of these reasons I regret that I chose not to go with another provider.
The app as a whole is good, but the annotated book section and it’s note taking ability needs improvement. If reading the book, it appears to have edges that make it difficult to quickly shuffle through pages and you are susceptible to closing the window (and losing written notes). The note taking is not seamless and using the Apple pen (gen2) is not great. It’s very touchy with grabbing preexisting writing. The highlight function is good, but I suspect the app is trying to do too much with all the options and causing issues. We shouldn’t have to hit the hand to go through pages either. At least make this the default then you should hit a pen to draw. There needs to be multi-point touch feature added that will help the grabbing of writing or make this a separate button.
I love that Becker has a mobile app so I can study on the go. I recently got an iPad and it’s my favorite way to watch the lectures and do the MCQ instead of lugging around my laptop. However, I noticed that I can’t do personalized practice tests that show the correct answer immediately after each question (not from the individual units tab in the study section nor the unlimited practice test page). This feature is the most helpful during my final review, but now I am finding that I have to go to my computer to enjoy that feature. I am also not able to see the proficiency stars for each module on my iPad, which is helpful in assessing my progress. Becker: PLEASE add this feature to the mobile app so users can utilize the full Becker experience on mobile. Thank you for making this app and I hope you incorporate my feedback!
I originally purchased Surgent, but had a hard time with lectures as they more resembled a college lecture. The lecturers with Becker are great at keeping you engaged and highlighting key parts of the text rather than just reading. I think that’s the largest difference other than I like the Becker physical layout better. Mcq’s and tbs have been pretty much the same but very good. I am having issues (probably self inflicted) trying to schedule live classes. Overall, great program so far - easy to follow, cut up into bite sized pieces with the best lectures.
This app is useful, especially if you download the content on your iPad device, in order to do question, watch videos, and/or read while traveling (if you do not have mobile service). If the app developers could fix the annotation of the book via the app (highlighting, notes, underlining, etc) I think it would be beneficial for the upcoming folks. For example, I was studying for Audit and now I am studying for TCP (Tax Compliance and Planning). I do not have the physical book so I use the pdf version in the app. When I try to highlight/underline stuff, it takes a few seconds for my actions to reflect and also I am unable to highlight new stuff until it “catches up”. This slows me down and is not efficient. I will say that if I use my work laptop and use google chrome, I can highlight in real time and it keeps up with me. But I like to use my ipad, especially when I want to read. I have tried using safari on my iPad and I experienced the same issue (with and without the Apple Pencil). My iPad is up to date with the most recent iPadOS and the app is as well.
I always do my MCQs so much fast on a mobile device. While it’s good to get used to a desktop, the mobile app is great for quick reviews of multiple choice questions. I’m not sure, but I think the calculator had issues with keeping my values as I switched between reading the question and doing calculations this made studying for FAR difficult. But I’d still recommend getting the app. One complaint is that you have to download the whole module. I wish there was an option to download the MCQs separate from the module.
Listen, I’m not here to opine on whether or not Becker is the best CPA review prep. You will have to determine that for yourself. I’m here because I’m desperately trying to use the iOS app to review for my upcoming exam and none of the interface is working as it should. Video lectures (which have all supposedly have been pre-downloaded!) constantly freeze, I can’t even view the slides without the page selector freezing (and the slide interface is overall clunky). It’s supposed to be a 1-to-1 translation of the web experience to mobile but nothing is working as it should. I can’t see this working for on-the-go. Developers, please make it functional 😭
I love this application. So convenient to study anywhere I can. But this week had several crashes and second day I could not open it. I sent email to the support. Then I decided to delete and install it again. I did it several times. And not it is back to work. I am just advising to those who have the same problem to do the same. It might work for you as well.
Overall good but not great (which it should be for $$$$)
I hate that this app forces you to scroll up or down on the pages. If I want to scroll down to look at something lower on the page the app forces you back up to the top where they are. But then if you’re following along letting it scroll for you it will barely even move down. There needs be an option manual scrolling or automatic because this is the most frustrating thing to deal with especially after a long day of studying. My app has also been glitching a lot lately.
This has been a very handy app for studying! My one issue is with the flash cards. To me, these are what this app should be used for. Smaller screens of tablets and smartphones are the perfect size for flash cards, yet on my iPhone 8 I can’t see the entire card sometimes and there is no ability to scroll on the flash card. I would just ask Becker to modify the flash card section to fit the screen or to give the ability to scroll. Other than that, a wonderful tool.
The only reason I gave it 4 stars is because I always forget to download the contents beforehand and find myself stuck with not being able to access the materials from my phone. However, this app is great when on the go. I usually use it on my way to or back from work on the metro, so it is very convenient to access the materials (once downloaded of course) from anywhere. This really helped me catch up on a number of items!
I love Becker and appreciate having access to the lectures on the go. I do wish the new features like the personalized review sessions were available on this app though. The Becker Empire app makes you answer 30+ questions correctly and they are the same questions each time. The personalized review sessions are super handy for drilling new MCQs, and I really wish that was available on the app so I could do that whenever I have spare time. Not just when I’m at a desktop.
It is so nice to be able to do everything on an iPad instead of a big computer! Everything works flawlessly and is easy to use. The only downside is for some of the simulations that have exhibits you have to slide the screen back and forth because if they fit it all on one screen it would be too small to read. But other than that I really like it.
I enjoy taking the quizzes, but I have issues to listening to lectures while using the app. They require you to download the lectures, but the lectures are constantly cutoff due to network connectivity issues. I wanted to listen to the lectures while driving, but this is not an option due to this issue.
The app doesn’t work correctly in my experience. It worked great on my old iPhone, but when I got an iPhone X, it seemed the application was not formatted correctly for this screen size. I have to tap above any selection I’m trying to make, basically trying to guess the area I’m actually wanting to tap. This causes me to miss multiple choice questions, makes it difficult to select any input boxes and other buttons on the screen, and also some things aren’t even visible because they’re hanging below the viewing area. Very annoyed that it hasn’t been corrected with an update yet.
I’ve been using the app for a couple years now and the practice test are STILL BROKEN. You can start one but once started, even answering all the questions, there’s no way to end or submit the test. All that time wasted just to not see your results is really frustrating.
I use notability to take notes on one side and watch the lecture on the other. Whenever I go into half and half split screen mode, the option bar on the bottom that allows me to press play, change settings, etc. disappears and I have to completely force close the app to get it to come back. This also happens on browser but on browser I just have to exit out of the lecture which is also a pain. For the app I have to shut it down completely. Pretty much anyone using an iPad for Becker is going to split their screen to take notes. Fix this!!!
I highly recommend enabling the face recognition feature to make the log in process more friendly using. Also, it will be adding value if you can upload the Task Based Simulation (videos only) so we can listen to them while driving. Thanks
The Becker system is amazingly interactive, and most importantly, effective. The iPhone app works fine, but of course the small display can become frustrating. However, I gave it 3 stars because the iPad app is unreliable and crashes regularly. It’s hard to trust my study time to the iPad app when 50% it crashes shortly after opening, even when I’ve downloaded the lectures for offline use. If they can improve the app’s reliability, I’d give it a 5/5.
There is only so long you can handle studying at a desk, but with this app you can listen to lectures, do MCQs, and even study with flash cards. The only glitch I’ve noticed is when your taking a practice test with simulations it won’t let you review your test. Other than that I love this app!
Being able to use the Becker app no matter where I am has made studying much easier and convenient. I can practice flash cards on my bed before closing my eyes, I can watch video lectures while on the treadmill at the gym, I can do progress test while sitting in the back of an Uber in traffic, etc. It’s truly amazing!
I have it set for apps to auto update when I plug in my phone. This app does software updates but it does not download content updates until I click on the item I need. It even stops downloading if I click the link and then go somewhere else on my phone. The result is that whenever I go to use this app it always has to download 10 minutes of updates before it is useable. Please make the app auto-update content or make a setting to make this possible.
After graduating from college I didn't work in accounting, and I felt I needed a strong program as I recently decided to go back into accounting and I am working in accounts payble. I decided to get my cpa and I think this course does an amazing job at putting everything from the very beginning to advance topics.
I really hope that I can take writing notes on my iPad along with the lecture so it’s one book with all the portable notes all together. When I click on the pen icon in the lecture window, the highlight and notes function does not work. Nothing shows up when click or highlight. Really hope this can be fixed and would create a lot of convenience and efficiency. Thanks
I really prefer the previous multiple choice interface within the modules. Especially the ability to hide the timer and just focus on doing the multiple choice questions and the material rather than feeling like I’m in an exam all the time. I’ve really been debating whether I want to continue with Becker because of this. It’s had a major impact on my study progress.
Unlimited practice mcq on mobile app worked really fine until June 2021. Suddenly it does not work. Things i tried to fix. Im using iphone 12 and up to date software - turn off and restart my iphone - sign off and log in again - delete the app and download again - turn off wifi and change network setting Eventually it still does not work. Lecture and everything else works fine I hope you guys can fix it soon so i can use it for my upcoming exam. Thanks
Every video I open up starts on a black screen. I rotate the video and it kicks me out of the screen, often restarting the video and not keeping my progress. Or if I close the black screen and attempt to reload the video, it starts back all over without any progress in the video. This has only happened within the last update. Very frustrating. As someone who listens to videos on a long commute, this is not ideal.
Constantly getting error messages after answering each practice question, not sure why because it still tells me when I get an answer right or wrong, but it’s about as annoying as one can imagine. Additionally, this cool new feature started where I would click end practice test and it won’t let me end the practice test so any progress is not being saved.
May we please take random practice tests by module? This will help strengthen our weak areas while in an “exam interface” Can we also be able to have the option to get rapid responses while working on the random practice exams? The personalized exam option does not display all the questions at once. This is frustrating and can feel like a drag while attempting questions.
This app is great, however, I can’t watch the skillbuilder videos from the simulations without the video to start crashing. Watching a 15 min clip would take an hour just from restarting and seeking. This only happens on my iPad.
Becker is the best CPA review by far. The instructors are committed, dedicated and very knowledgeable. Some cpa review courses recruit instructors on the mere fact that they passed the cpa exam, but Becker recruits on the capability of the instructors. When you use Becker you clearly get more than what you pay for. Becker helps you with more than the CPA exam.
Please update the app to support iOS 12/iPhone XR. None of the lectures, skills practice, questions, notes, book pages show up at all. When I go to the sections screen it is blank. Need them to utilize my time during long commutes to and from work. Please fix.
I wish I could take a look at the flashcards and not having to restart/revisit things that I already saw whenever the app is closed. Having the option of picking up where I left would be ideal. Also marking items that I need to work on while going through the flashcards
The app is just as user-friendly as the desktop version. However, there are still some things available on the desktop version that are not available on the app like simulation questions and adjusting the study plan.
This new version keeps pushing “a new content version is available” and asks you to update. Then download all content. This repeats every time you open the app. Update: they fixed the above issue. All good for now
How can you possibly create an app that is basically useless? For the amount of money I pay for the program you’d think a self-made test would have a “submit” button and give me answers. I wasted all that time creating, answering and looking for a button to see how I did when there isn’t a darn thing that will give me an answer and let me know if I’m right or wrong. Thanks for wasting my precious study time on a useless app.
I appreciate that they even have an app because I don’t have a computer and only have my iPad but it is very frustrating. It crashes every 15 minutes and It takes me twice as long to get through the MCQ because it crashes so often. If I switch apps for 10 seconds just to change the music it will close out of everything and take me back to the home page.
I live in NYC and travel to work each day via public transportation and I get through so many multiple choice questions using this app. So happy Becker have this feature.
Reading these reviews are giving me anxiety about losing access to my program. Nonetheless, I came to see if anyone else was having issues downloading content in the background. After a week of trying to download R6 I had to force the download to complete by keeping the app open. Did I miss a memo about that? I’ve never experienced the issue beforehand.
So much potential! Formatting has not yet been established for my iPhone. For example, if a note card is longer than the visible space on your screen then you are out of luck! No way to scroll further down and the writing has not been formatted to fit within the screen. Glitches such as this deter from the overall experience. From some of the reviews I have read this seems to be a problem for over a year now. PLEASE UPDATE/ADDRESS!
This app has a lot of potential, but I can’t get it to consistently work. Part of the draw is being able to use it offline, yet the only way to get it to work is if I uninstall and reinstall it. Otherwise the app crashes every time I try to open it. Incredible when you consider the time that went into the Accounting for Empires app that this one gets neglected.
I downloaded this app three weeks ago and despite ensuring I have the the most up to date version on my iphone, the app is almost useless while on the go. The video playing will not auto advance due to network errors, the video does not show the text book text, just red highlighting, and after finally getting through a section, it doesn’t get reflected within my progress. I would NOT recommend this app for iPhone use.
I use this while I’m driving or working to listening to lectures. I’ll screen shot key things that I don’t understand and then add them to my homemade flashcards but the app keeps losing my progress. I CONSTANTLY have to search for the place I left off in the lectures. It frequently fails to mark lectures as “complete.”
I love the Becker app and use it frequently to study on the go. I like to use the split view with notes up to work out problems while reviewing. The app a started to crash when in split view. I can’t seem to study more than 45 seconds in split view without it crashing.
After the recent update, I cannot tap on an option anywhere on the lower right side. The app thinks that the More menu is open——the one asking Flashcards, Performance, Find Question, Download Manager. Even when the menu is closed, the app acts as if I’m selecting one the above four options. Therefore, I cannot navigate to something as simple as F7 -> Section F5 -> MCQs or Supplemental Qs. Please fix this.
For some reason I can no longer sign into my account on the mobile app. The iPad app works fine, I can login on my web browser from a desktop or even the mobile browser. Every time I try to log in via the mobile app it says authentication is required and 420 bad request. My phone is the most recent iOS, app is up to date. Idk what else to do.
I really wish you could full screen the textbook. That would make using it on my iPad so much more convenient. Aside from that, this app is great. Keep up the improvements.
