The title is the first line of my review. Plenty of search options for EXACTLY what you’re looking for. Good quality pictures. It’s a fine app, no hitches, just quibbles to be found; but only two: 1. That there is a limit to how many pictures the app allows a seller to upload. We want as many pics as possible yall! And 2. I would love the ability to interface with the seller directly on the app itself. I’ve been scrolling, a boat will catch my eye, I’ll be looking at the pictures, and I’ll wanna ask a question about a specific thing in a picture, but there’s no way to ask underneath a picture about something in that picture. That’s not even really a quibble, it’s just a want, propositioned as a possible new feature later on. If you like boats, and you’re looking for one, there’s no reason not to get the app.
There’s a wealth of information on this app. Lots of boats, and easily accessible. From a technical standpoint though there are some issues that are pervasive enough to be quite frustrating. For example when you choose a manufacturer and model, if you want to change the model in the filter menu, the app just won’t let you and you have to close it out and put the manufacturer in again. Also, expanding images isn’t very mobile friendly, either. If you click on one sometimes it is horribly scaled to the screen and won’t let you close out. Finally, the ad placements are a bit clunky and can easily lead to misclicks, taking you out of the app (and the ads sometimes pedal Pop Yachts whom many people here dislike including myself which just leaves a sour taste). Overall a decent app, if you’re looking for boats it’s certainly a great place for it, but for now the technical/UI issues are pretty elementary and not something you’d expect for something so many people use to buy expensive things.
This is a good app with the ability to search for a boat with the specific features you desire and near your location. The search works well like the website. The other part of the app that’s good is the ability to save a list of possible boats you’d like to purchase. I hid feature could use improvement. For some reason some boats can’t be saved. You click the heart on the listing and when you go to your favorites it’s not there. This is very frustrating as it leaves you to having to save these in your browser which defeats the point of the list which is having all your options in one place.
Is there a way to change back the older version. A slider for price range? A TERRIBLE UPDATE. Its not even a practical idea for a mobile device. We’re talking overlapping circles to move within 20k thats a lot of boats missed. I hate that i can no longer search on the app but have to use the website. The app was really good before someone put a crappy untested idea in there. it wasnt hard to type your max and min price. But this went from easy to unusable. Update, they fixed the app and added both methods and now the app is great once again.
Crashes, and has trouble keeping place when returning to listings
The app crashes and restarts without saving your search data. It has trouble keeping you in place where you were scrolling when returning back to search results after viewing a listing. This means you will have to scroll through a couple of dozen listings again just to find where you were at. Then when it’s all done and you’ve resumed where you were, it crashes when you click on another ad... Other than that the sorting functions are very competent and so are the search parameters, good job there. Only other thing this that you cannot choose to view pictures larger and it would be nice to have a picture viewer like Zillow to see the photos easier.
I really enjoy BoatTrader’s website because it allows me to search the whole country or Southeast unlike Facebook marketplace that forces me to look locally. I primarily do this on my phone so that app was a blessing when I found it. However, you can only search for one make/model at a time unlike on the website where I can select multiple different boats to search for and then scroll through them all. This wouldn’t be that big of a deal if once you searched one you could search another but once you search... it won’t let you reset to select another make/model. You have to close the app and search for the next one and close it each time. It can also be finicky when looking at pictures. When you try to zoom in, it may cut off the picture and not allow you to pan and you may not be able to zoom out or exit the photo sometimes... again forcing you to close the app and reset. Overall a good app that allows me to do what I want to do, shop for boats, but it could use some work on the development side.
Great place to find a boat. A little frustrating when folks don't replay to information requests. I've literally been going round and round with one guy for a week to get a look at his boat. Very frustrating!! In addition, there are also way too many ads from Pop yachts. Sometimes they're right next to an owner ad and in one case, Pop wants $7800 more for the same boat. Makes no sense. There needs to be a way for the Moderator to monitor ads and deal with the bad ones.
This App has a functional and easy to use interface. It allows users to filter down to the exact type of boat one is searching for. I particularly like the save feature. The only negative I have, is that the App signs you out too quickly, I found myself having to log back in several times during a session in order to save another vessel to my saved file. Other than that, love the app.
It is astounding that it is so highly rated. Makes me suspicious. It constantly freezes. Every action you do seems to be a delay. You are bombarded with ads (probably a good part of the problem). Every time you click done to get out of a boat listing, it erases all your filters you just created, so you have to start your search all over again. Sometimes it won’t even show the done button, so you have to close the app completely and reopen it. It doesn’t allow you to save any filter settings in your profile for quick searches later. It is truly the worst app I have ever used. By the way, I’m using an iPad that’s fully updated.
Sort and filter options are very comprehensive and very user friendly. Can literally find every type of boat at every price point imaginable. Most sellers provide plenty of pics but occasionally you’ll find one who only posts 4 or 5 and that’s annoying and hard to explain. Otherwise a very useful app that seems to be well maintained.
How much money does a broker have to make to invest a bit into ending the glitches in this app?? I’m actually trying to buy a boat using this app. Will not remember remember my login credentials. Every boat that I saved and every search I saved has completely disappeared. Trying to view pictures are ridiculous. Pictures are low quality and trying to navigate a zoom picture may send me to the hospital. There is a strong backbone to this app but the brokers are going to have to come off their wallets.
Since I was unsure about the type of boat I would retire on, BoatTraders selection provided me with many options to consider. I had my list but after seeing BT’s inventory, I realized my list was not complete. I also realized I didn’t need a 50-ft yacht to have everything I wanted; it could be had on a 42’ boat. BT great for research and sale selection!
I like this app but there is one big in paticular that is a deal breaker. After viewing a few boats, images suddenly stop loading for the entire app. So if you haven't found something in about 8 boats, you'll have to shut down the app and restart. But not immediately, you'll have to wait a few minutes. Then Prince and repeat with the new session. This had been happening for quite a while now.. Obviously it's part of the design and they like it. Good luck!
This app is great for finding boats, however the operation of it is crappy. They must not put very much money and effort into the app. When you blow up the pictures, do not turn your phone sideways otherwise it will freeze up and you will have to close out the app. You might as well just scroll the pictures when you open up the boat listing and do not click on the picture. Pictures freeze when scrolling. The app is very inconsistent.
This app seems to be stuck in the early app developments. It gets stuck when you look up make/models (it won’t let you search for a new make/model) without having to start over. If you are looking at a picture of a boat and turn your phone sideways so that you can see a larger view of it, the app gets stuck and you can’t click out of the add without closing the entire app down and starting all over again. You would think that a site like Autotrader/ boat trader would have the means to build a top quality app. They have severely dropped the ball on this one.
You run into issues when you want to view pictures full screen. If they show up it’s great, but most of the time they don’t. If I go back after looking at a particular listing the app has trouble keeping up and the next listing I click on was the last one I viewed. I have to scroll through a couple of pics before it catches up. Also maybe having types of boats other than the main 3 that’s in the filter section would be a good idea. Thanks
A hallmark of a good application in which the users are intended to find something to purchase, is the ability to find something to purchase. This applications “sort” feature is inherently broken. The selection uses a UI element in which the “apply” button is below the frame of the screen, and there is no effect by selecting “sort”, say by “price: low to high”. Thus the only presentation of results is by “featured”. Even in a niche application like Boat Trader, thumbs down. You fail. I’d rather go to a boat dealership or brave the world of scams Craigslist then be subject to the whimsy of this apps creator.
The iPad experience is the zoom phone type, so it looks wonky. The ads on this app though make it almost unusable. Scrolling while ads are loading makes it register a click on the boat you aren’t wanting to look at. Clicking on a boat most times shows you the pictures of the previous boat you were looking at instead of the current one. May need to update the iPad side to get rid of the issues, but tone down the ads a bit too.
I gave it three stars because it works, but I can’t find any reason to use it instead of the mobile website. You can create an account with your email on the website, but can’t use it on the app. The app doesn’t have any more functions than the website. It still has ads. The look on the app is slightly better, but not enough to overcome the other shortcomings. Overall, I don’t see any reason to use this app, and I have gone back to the website.
I need to be able to search for boats that have trailers included just like eBay does. And there is no reason for a saved boat or favored in vote to remain in my favorites category once it is sold. You should change the heart to orange after it’s sold for example and move those boats down to the bottom of the list. Those two issues kind of make this app prehistoric.
This is a huge step up from the broken Boat Trader site I used to use. There are a few nit picky things left to update. 1: hitting back shouldn’t log you out. I feel this is just a bug. 2: a better browser search interface. Maybe a list of manufacturers could be helpful. Still tho, much, much better than before :)
All I’m trying to do is find a boat but this app keeps putting really poor quality useless ads in inconvenient spots while I’m trying to scroll through the boat ads. It’s like I’m getting double ads, one for the boat and one for the garbage app. I don’t understand why they need to place ads in the corners and crevices of this app. the boat sellers are already paying to place ad. The app itself locks up on me and forces me to close it out. It’s just Poot quality all the way around that I’m forced to deal with during my boat search.
I was searching for a houseboat, have been for years now. Out of all the sites, articles, papers, etc, boat trader app is truly the best! Not only did I find our dream(house)boat, but as now looking for another! Can’t beat the prices, the searches and the people you meet searching for your own dream boat 😉
I access the internet via my iPad Air. Click on the boat main photo and the app brings up a matrix of available photos but when you click on a photo in the app it only fills about 25% of the screen. You also have to exit out to the matrix to bring up the next photo. Most apps like this have a left or right icon to advance to the next screen.
I shop for things over time, and when a good deal presents itself I make a move. The BT app makes that possible. A vessel is a big investment so I don’t impulse buy boats. With alerts and saved boats I watched what a market was doing before I sold my boat and then used the same principles to replace it.
Does what you would expect for an app. However, it appears the results are batch loaded. The app will frequently leave out one or more of the result batches as you scroll through. So, if you’re search resulted in 30 boats (total results indicated at top of page) and you counted the results, there would only be 25 boats. Re-running the search seems to correct the issue.
Great app been looking for a ship to buy and live on for about 2 years now.
I will find a ship eventually and if I find it on this app all the more, find-e it will be. I like the pics and prices and stats. Building knowledge off what’s available on the app has been fun.
The app needs to be updated to accommodate viewing on a phone. That is the reason you made an app so make it work for phones. Auto rotate images, VW able to zoom in on images, scale images for best viewing and not cut them off in a 3x4 format. The app has never been updated for wide viewing. When you rotate the picture to be able to see, the app freaks out and doesn’t allow you to close out of the photos or it won’t load the next photo due to the orientation. Needs an update yesterday!!!
The app itself is good and boat trader is certainly the place to be looking for boats. However, when I use it on my iPad to see pictures bigger, it is shrunk to the phone size. If I select stretch to screen there are still big black margins on each side.
The search feature works well, but the mechanism to save a short list of boats you are interested in doesn’t work. You have to start looking from scratch every time you open.
Want to love the app! Persistent login requests though!
I login through my Google account. I really really really want to love this app and give it five stars since I’m finding cool boats on here, but every two minutes (not an exaggeration) the app logs me out and requests for me to log back in. It’s pretty frustrating. Again, I want to love this app and would be more than happy to change this review to five stars if that one thing gets figured out. Not sure if other people are having this issue?
I’ve been boating my entire life. Boat Trader allows, and highlights, the things I want to know as a boater. The ease and access of information makes it a easy process while ascertaining the small details that matter in the boating world.
The app is not very user friendly. You can not search for multiple models of the same brand as you can on the website. Also every time you click for an expanded picture you have to completely close the app because the “X” button doesn’t close the pictures. Very frustrating.
Great way to track listings so you know what boat should be worth definitely recommend. Although it’s a little glitchy sometimes when you click on a listing, it doesn’t take you directly to it in the app.
As a soon to be retiree, I have decided to spend time on the water with a fishing rod in my hand. I don’t have the experience of many boaters or fisherman, but I do know where to start my search. Boat Trader has been a wonderful resource for me!
The App is constantly crashing, especially when going through photos on the listing. Overall, I like the app, the ease of use and overall content. However, the performance issue adds a level of frustration when it crashes in the middle of a listing and the added steps to start all over with your search criteria.
I bought a package and listed my boat. 2-3 inquiries a day asking if I would take a cashier check and provide bank info etc. how can they have so many scammers ??? The app has zero interface to my listing and I had to log in to the full site on my computer to edit or manage my ad. It’s a shame because clearly they could be a fantastic app and site based on their internet exposure. Got more real inquiries via local facebook ads and Craigslist.
You either understand why we sail or you just lack the courage and imagination of the adventurously spirited that can just jump on and sail off until the green and brown slips away and only blue remains. To stay out of the sight of land and not have a care in the world. No clocks and no calendars.
I was pretty disappointed to find that the updated version did not save any of the boats I have been considering to buy this year after careful searching and filtering.
Can’t say enough this is the best way to look for a boat . New and used alike. Puts the boating world at your fingertips and your bank account. If you’re serious about buying the ship of your dreams check this application it won’t steer you wrong.
I’ve tried over and over to be able to save the boats I’m interested in, but there must be a bug on my app that won’t save them. I end up scrolling through boats to try to find the one I was looking at before.
The app gets goofed up on iPhone when trying to look at pictures closer , I’ve had to delete and reinstall it several times because it’s frozen on pictures
Seems like this app is the leader in boat sales. I do wish that there were more filters to put on listings- specifically on the outboards. There should be filters for maximum hours, brand of outboard, and horsepower.
Search and advance search function is trash. When searching by make and selecting a model, you can’t go back and choose a different model. Clearing the search doesn’t help because as soon as you select the same make, it filters to the last model you chose and you can’t select a different model yet again.
I like the app for it extensively broad database and the search filters however trying to simply adjust a particular filter once selected is not possible. You have to start over and retype in the manufacture then select all filters over again. This has to be fixed...time consuming hassle to start over for every search.
Much better than using a web browser. Main issue I have is I have to logout and log back in every other day due to it not letting me save boats. Took me a day to figure it out. Seems to run a bit sluggish
Had 13 inquiries, three of which were scams and three serious. Prior to listing with BT, I advertised in two local newspapers with zero inquiries! In this day and age with newspaper circulation way down, BT is the best way to go. Thanks for your help. CJR. PS: The Scammers are really creative and almost believable!
What is very poorly set up app. Crashes consistently. Never goes back to where you were. You’re better off at yacht world they have a better selection of their app is not perfect either but definitely better than this one
