Not user friendly

Can’t find where they give the hourly % chance of rain. Also when I am traveling I can change the app to show me the weather for that town. (Again, no hourly). Not a fan on how it is set up. I really liked the graph they had for % chance of rain in the old app. I know it takes a bit to get used to new things, but if I can’t get the local hourly weather then it isn’t an app I want on my phone.

Awful experience compared to old WCNC weather. Look elsewhere

WCNC said that they were getting rid of their weather app and that we should move to this news app. I gave it a try because I thought they were consolidating the two apps into a better experience still letting me focus on the weather if I wanted to do so and have news if I desired. That is not this application. To find weather information is MUCH more of a PAIN now. You are bombarded with ads, you have to scroll and click multiple things, your location on the weather map is not pinpointed, the problems go on. Also, NOTIFICATIONS: You could have all of your notifications turned off for everything except weather and you will still get news events! No offense WCNC, but the reason why we had the weather app was because we trust Brad’s weather information. I’m not here to read articles from your news reporters. If you want people to enjoy this app who were coming from the weather one, make the experience for weather super streamlined and easy just like in the old app. You can still have the News available, which I may look at if I desire. But when you shove it down our throats with the worst weather experience, what’s going to happen is people like me deleting this app and just using the iPhone’s native weather app. The whole point of the weather app is being able to get weather information quickly and accurately. This is the opposite.

Give me back the weather app

This app is horrible. I want to be able to easily look at the Weather for my area, not Charlotte as a default. I can set my town up, but I can’t set it as the default, and it still gives me Charlotte weather instead of my weather. The Weather app was able to do this successfully, and knew the weather in my town right outside Charlotte was often different than Charlotte itself. I want to see the daily and hourly forecast, as well as the radar. I want notifications related to severe weather in my area only, and there are too many ads popping up in the way. And put the forecast and weather articles at the bottom. I want to quick scan the weather, not have to skip long winded verbiage like in a blog recipe. Just give us back the Weather app.

UPDATE: Notifications are annoying

Giving this three stars because I can't get the notifications working how I want. I have all topics set to off in the notifications except for weather. But I still receive news alerts that I don't want. I would just block all notifications but I need the weather ones. This wasn't a problem when the apps were separate. Updating a year later. I had upwards of 30 notifications today. All were news alerts. One was about a contractor in Phoenix! Why do I care about that? I assume Tegna owns news outlets in AZ? Why do I even have this app?

Thoughts and opinions

WCNC is my “go to” source for news BUT especially weather. Brad Panovich is the best meteorologist I have listened to in my 76 years on planet earth. Your news anchors are wonderful, very personable and relatable. I love the verify segments. For over 25 years I was a dedicated follower of another Charlotte network news - not anymore.

No substitute for the WCNC weather app

I downloaded this app when told the WCNC weather app was no longer going to be updated. Within the hour I received notifications about news stories. I turned those off. Using this app to look for the weather is cumbersome. I want the hourly forecast and radar at my fingertips and there is too much searching and clicking to get the weather. Deleted and searching for a new weather app.

Too many commercials

Your commercials are too constant and long. I wish commercials were 20 seconds or less. Then I wouldn’t mind and I might actually remember the commercial and consider the business doing the commercial for future business. No one likes to be forced to see something and If you mist at least don’t take so much of our precious time annoying us with your commercials and advertisements.

Love the app and the content

I recently downloaded the WCNC app and have really enjoyed getting the updates throughout the day. Knowing what is happening locally is always important and I feel the content is well balanced. The initial reason that I downloaded the app was to try to bridge the financial updates given on the TV broadcast at the bottom of the screen to what I thought would be found on the app but I have yet to find that. I sent an email to the station but have not heard back yet. I’d love to change this to a 5-star rating if I could get that answered, please. Keep up the great work and I am a routine viewer of the TV broadcast at 5am and switch to the app as I prep for the workday.

Just okay

The new app is pretty, it’s decent. You can easily find what you are looking for. The one thing that’s irritating me is the notifications. I love Brad and his honest forecasting. He’s awesome, and really the main reason I prefer this news station. I have my notifications set to just weather. And here I am, getting notifications randomly of everything under the sun. I just want weather notifications. That’s it. Just weather. Juuuuust weather.

They are truly a T-ogether E-very one A-complishes M- ore I appreciate that they are calm when they speak on serious issues and don’t act like it’s the end of the world, especially when it’s hurricane season or right now. They state the facts with strength in their voices but don’t yell it like they where scolding a child, or having a heated disagreement. They are friendly to deal with and prompt at answering your questions. They are my go to channel! Thank You for all you do, inside and out. Praying that your Team stays healthy. 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🤗🤗🤗🌈🌈🌈

Too many notifications!

Downloaded this app because the weather only app is going away. Selected only weather notifications, did not select any news topics, but got bombarded with news notifications only the first day I had the news app. The weather section is not as streamlined and user friendly as the weather only app. Disappointed so much that I am deleting this app and going back to the weather app that came on the phone.

Weather

Had to download this app since they are getting rid of the weather app. The weather page is so cluttered and the info you want isn’t nearly as detailed as the current weather app. I also selected only weather notifications but have been getting notifications for everything else. Such a disappointment because of how much I loved the weather app.

WCNC is my go to news source. I have my coffee with them each morning and tune in each evening. Always pay attention to Brad Panovich’s weather report. Keep up the great work to keep us informed about local and National news.

Excessive notifications

Even for topics I have turned notifications off for they bombard you with push notifications. It’s like “a crime happened!!” - I don’t care. - “There’s an update on that crime!!!!” - still don’t care - “police are now giving a statement about the crime!!!” - please stop. I don’t care. That’s the actual format. Endless. So dumb. Almost as bad as the patch. Tell me you’re desperate to get me tapping into your app without telling me. Moving onto a new news platform.

Improvement suggestions

Things to improve. Anchors saying “yes” instead of “yeah”. Weather people learning the local pronunciation of Cheraw and Lancaster. Say our weather vs my weather forecast. Great station. Long time viewer. And forget the days accurate in forecast. Suggestions.

Great News Department and Weather

Brad Panovich is the reason we watch the channel. He is such a pleasure to watch and so understandable. Learned to like other areas of the newscast. First channel we turn to for local stories and weather.

Bring back the weather app

No matter how you set the notifications on this app (I only want weather notifications) it pops up news alerts. I don’t want to know what police 3 cities away from me are doing. I want to know if a tornado is nearby. You have one of the nation’s top meteorologists who could give us a better app. Other local stations have a weather only app. Do better.

Need a Weather only App

I only want weather notifications, how do I eliminate all others. I have weather as the only allowed notifications but news is pushed. Truthfully, WCNC needs a weather only app with lots of features to help the public , even if there’s a small cost!

Ugh the Chevrolet ads

I understand the need for ads. That’s why pays to keep the app up and running. Nothing is free... But seriously, do I have to sit through a Chevrolet ad every time I want to watch a live update from the federal, state, or local government. And if I need to switch to something and check back, I have to go through the ad process again.

Do not like the new update

We are huge Weather Brad fans, but this new weather section of the WCNC app is just frustrating. 1- on the radar, it doesn’t have a dot location for me to see the town I’m tracking/ where I am 2- limited to 5 cities to follow (old app had many more, maybe unlimited) 3- not user-friendly to toggle between saved cities. I need to look up where we are traveling to and can’t figure it out! 4- I just want the weather like their old weather app, but I have to scroll thru the news now I want to be loyal to this station, but I’m going to download WSOC’s weather app to compare. I’m sorry! :/

Notifications are annoying

The notification preferences are not followed. I have weather only updates and still get an overwhelming amount of other notifications. Bring back the old weather app!

A content Easter egg hunt

Why make it more difficult to find the content your users really want? Take the weather forecast for example: instead of being able to easily access the WCNC forecast—NOT the “my location” forecast, which isn’t terribly accurate BTW—I have to fish around and view videos just to see what Larry Sprinkle predicts. Not a fan of the new format. Please go back to the basics.

Weather section is truly horrible

They are no longer supporting their standalone weather app. It’s easy enough to find the weather coverage on this app but what you get there is not worth the finding. No % of chance of precip, and today August 7 there’s a video from mid June. WCNC used to be my go-to for weather. Brad P is the best. Brad, the IT department let you down!!!

Push Notifications

Only downloaded app because they are getting rid of the WCNC weather app. In settings I selected to receive push notifications for weather only. Having only downloaded the app roughly 18 hours ago, I received push notifications all night with election results. No thanks.

All I want is a weather app

The weather app is being shut down August 1. That would be fine if this app did not want to send me news notifications and was as easy to use as the weather app. The alert settings does not appear to work properly, resulting in more alerts/clutter/annoyances. Turning of notifications means you no longer receive critical weather alerts. In order to get to the weather you have to shunt for it. Forecast and radar are buried instead of buttons at the bottom, like in the weather app. You have such a superb weather app

Weather needs to improve

I had to download this because the WCNC weather app is being sunset. I get that. It’s a lot of work to maintain 2 apps. But, can you try to make the weather tab as good as the weather app was?? Way too much stuff in the way.

Way to many ads

I’d give a five star as it’s Good app and layout but when you click on an article your bombarded with ads after every paragraph way to much. No other news app I use has so many ads. That’s a shame for WCNC app.

Extremely hard to find articles

I am so disappointed with this app. I will receive a notification from the app and then have a hard time finding it once in the app. There hardly seems to be any content on actual news stories. This app focuses on the weather and their secondary reporting.

App loads slowly since the new update and sometimes crashes to the home screen due to bugs in the app. Developers needs to fix the app and it will be perfect

Good but slow

This news app gives a wide range of news for the Charlotte, NC area. It is attractive to look at and fairly easy to navigate. The downside is that it is SLOW and often has numerous spelling errors.
