This app is truly awful and the developers should be ashamed of putting out such a lousy piece of software. I've experienced numerous problems since installing the app, but the latest episode is the last straw. I've made numerous attempts to download the May edition to no avail. When I tap on the 'Get Latest Tablet Edition' it directs me to sign up either using my subscriber number or my address. Going either route yields the same result: error, you're already a subscriber (duh!) and should sign with the the app. Uh, I AM signed in! One bright note is customer care has been fairly responsive. I've emailed them three times in the past 24 hours and the always got back to me quickly. Unfortunately their latest suggestion to resolve the problem didn't work. I'm convinced it's just another quirk in this God-awful piece of software. SES
I was a bit reluctant to install based on all the bad reviews but I have to say this is the best magazine app I've used yet. Much better than T+L IMHO. It's so incredibly content rich - each article has expanded views of its gorgeous photography and other content not available in the magazine itself, and it's all built INTO the app as opposed to linking to their website in Safari. The navigation is also really cool with the sliding bar at the bottom of the screen. Pop up windows, short films, the list goes on. VERY COOL. Only downside, and this seems to be a problem with most magazine downloads, is that you have to sit on the download page for the download to happen - it won't download in background while using other apps. And CN Traveler's download size is HUGE compared to other mags - the latest issue was almost 700MB! I assume this is because of the content richness I mentioned earlier. WELL worth it in any event. HIGHEST praise to CN Traveler!
While Condé Nast Traveler certainly has a fantastic product in its content, its app is lackluster. Firstly, it has not been updated for the iPad Pro, meaning that the magazine is not displayed on the entire screen, but rather in the middle with black bars around the edges. Secondly, this app does not have functionality that is all but required. The app is effectively a PDF scan of each page of the magazine, instead of being a truly interactive experience. It would be great if Condé Nast could look at some of their competitors with great applications and take a hint from them to make the app as great as their magazine!
I have subscription to the paper magazine and wanted to try the free access to the tablet edition. This is the second time I tried it and it is still buggy. After signing on, tried to download one of the magazine editions, but it got stuck during download and couldn't finish it. After that all I got was errors (file not found, couldn't connect to the Internet, etc.). The one I was trying to download was 500mb, which seems rather large.
If you don't close the app after activating, then click Library, then sign in, it won't recognize you and your purchased issues you get as a print subscriber. Otherwise, It's a great app. I also wish that it had the ability to enlarge the font. Really like the layout view so I don't have to look at ads, just straight to articles.
I'm a print subscriber and just got a mini for Christmas. I downloaded the last 3 issues and yes, it took me a whole 2 minutes to download each issue over WiFi (no biggie), but it was completely worth it! The image quality is great. I only wish I could zoom in on the articles when I need to because the font can be too small sometimes.
Yes, it takes a while to download each month's copy, but you download it once and can flip through it whenever you want without any waiting again. Interactive pages and articles are set up very well. Love it! Just be patient with initial download.
Terrible app, you can't select or search text, the articles aren't contained in a single section (and there's no table of contents ). The pages are clipped top and bottom by the margins and the layout and text size require you to keep zooming to read it, you can't set the text size. It is honestly easier to just read the print version This is an embarrassing product when you compare it with the new yorker app also owned by conde nast
Got my subscription and was all excited to be able to read issues on my iPad while traveling. Not so far! This app stinks. It won't let me out of the screen I am in, no matter what I do. So I am "stuck" on this page. I've closed, reopened, shut off - only thing let is to delete and reinstall the app and start all over. Really not liking this app. Haven't had other magazine apps be this wonky.
Love the magazine but I read it from an IPad Pro and the is no way to read in landscape view. Very annoying! This is a standard iPad function that needs to be added in. There are articles with small print that are nearly impossible to read without the zoom feature. The old saying “that if it’s not broken don’t fix it” certainly applies.
C'mon folks, you've got a bunch of really po'd subscribers out here that cannot get what we're paying for. Where is your server, in Outer Mongolia? Actually these days a server in Outer Mongolia would probably be working fine. Where's Wendy Perrin when we really need her? Actually, with all the people out there unemployed surely there's a position open in your corporate for "make sure the server is working before you roll out the app."
There is no free lunch. Even at a Gala Buffet, one has paid to get there, and with this app, one does it with time. The magazine 'app' is performing how it advertises. The photos are rich and inviting. The information- adequate. It is a bit of a delay for the downloads, but the quality of the product is worth the wait.
My number one issue with this app is that the picture doesn’t rotate! It extremely annoying considering that’s a standard feature for iPad apps. As a result, whenever using the app I have to detach from the keyboard to read it. It also needs a zoom feature to assist with reading considering the font size is small.
I have a print subscription and there is a link to convert and view the iPad edition. However, I always get an error message when trying to do this. Have been on the phone with customer service and awaiting a reply. It's a nice magazine, but wish I could make it work on the iPad. When and if they get this corrected, I will review again and hopefully give a much higher star rating.
highly disappointing, a complete failure and the worst customer care ever
I subscribed last August, jointly with Vanity Fair. I never had access and still do not have access to the digital edition. I have done everything (link account subscription, delete and download several times the app) but nothing happened. I wrote email 10 times to the Customer Care and they never replied. I called 3 times the Customer Care number but they could not care less. They were vague and told me they would call me back … but nothing happened. I am going to cancel both the subscriptions.
Planning on traveling the globe next year and this magazine is wonderful in helping me plan my trips! App works wonderfully for me and I've had no problems as of yet. I browse on my way to work.
The app downloaded and installed perfectly. As a subscriber, i downloaded the Dec '11 issue with no issues. Maybe some people have no patience. I let it do its thing and it works great.
Impossible to get your magazine online because it is impossible to sign in. I have reset the password, tried to sign in and still get messages that the authentication failed. I give up! Both on the app and when my subscription expires, I give up on that as well. Too much wasted time with this terrible software. The magazine is not worth it.
I'm able to setup the account but all I can download are old issues from several months ago, not the current issue. It's also buggy when trying to delete old issues that are available for download. it simply doesn't work. Going to stick with paper version for now.
I subscribe to a number of e magazines . None of them is as difficult as this mag to navigate thru the pages . It just goes all over the place. It takes you away from a good reading experience. Why make it so complicated ?
I've tried 4 times to download the current edition and it's so slow with such a large file size that it's still been unsuccessful. Wish I could get my money back and definitely should have read the other reviews. Silly me - who'd a thought that such a prominent and classy publication would fail so miserably on the digital front.
Same thing happens to me. "This page cannot be opened because of an error. This error is 'Could not connect to the server (-1004)." Worthless app, I am thinking of canceling my subscription to the magazine also. They should never launch an app like this without someone testing to see if it actually works.
I have a subscription to the magazine but it will not let me login to the app on the iPad. I was sent an email from conde nast explaining how to do it and it does not work. I was excited to see a magazine just charge one price to get print and iPad version but it is very disappointing that they did not test the app first to make sure it worked.
I subscribed to the print edition to get access to both formats. I've sent two messages to support with no response. You cannot log into the digital edition as a subscriber. I'm canceling the print edition because of the total lack of customer service and awful app.
I share in the frustration of those who could never login. Every time I try I get an error saying that the app cannot connect to the server. Even used the arrow that takes you out to Safari to try logging in and that doesn't work either.
Like everyone else I'm extremely frustrated. They keep sending me e-mails to activate my on-line subscription on my iPad with my paper account number but I keep getting an error message "cannot connect to server" every time I try. It also doesn't recognize my address. FRUSTRATING!
Like other Condé Nast publications, this app will continue alerting you to new issues even after turning off notifications. (This crappy behavior shows up in other Condé Nast publications.) For the occasional reader who doesn't want to be pestered, delete this app and buy a copy at the newsstand.
Low res - read this mag on a 12.9 inch iPad Pro and you’ll be disappointed by the low resolution. If you try to pinch zoom, the text quickly shows aliasing. Why not deliver a higher res version? Second problem: you can’t tap on a page number to get there. Open the mag, see a feature on p. 72, tap, go. Impossible. You need to swipe down to see the list of pages and manually select page 72. Seems like a missed opportunity. Same with photos. Give us higher res!
Set up an account with email & password, but the system doesn't recognize it. Used my print subscription #. Seems I'm not the only one with this problem. Wassup Conde Nast?
I have subscription and received email encouragement to download new app. Followed email directions and went to log in and was unable. Stop me cold saying my email address was already in use...ah, yah, by me! Spent far too much time trying to problem solve
This app will not download the current issue of the magazine. I have a print subscription and have the latest issue. I would like to see this issue on my iPad before it goes out of print.
I am a print subscriber, yet app wants to sell me individual issues. Cannot just open and read on line...you developers should go look at some other magazines and maybe pick up some ideas. This app is awful.
This app doesn't work. I've tried it numerous times using my subscriber ID and/or my name and address. Never been able to download an issue. Have even tried to contact subscriber services. Nada!
Frustrating. Current subscriber that couldn't sign on after several attempts of following steps. It's enough to make me cancel my print subscription and buy Travel & Leisure instead. Fix this crap before you put it out to the public.
registered, loged in, but they want $4.99 for November
I registered OK, after a little fooling around that I don't actually remember. I got the Hot List properly downloaded, and it's pretty cool. But the November 2011 issue (hard copy in my hands) doesn't download. Instead it asks for another $4.99 to get the issue. Obviously, even though I got a little further than some, I'm not happy. I received and email promotion for the same thing for Vanity Fair. It'll be interesting to see if that works any better.
Because there does not seem to be a way to increase the horribly small font size, this wonderful truth in travel magazine is pretty much inaccessible to anyone over forty. Cancelled subscription same day. Sorry, Conde Nast Traveler!
After accepting my payment for a one year subscription...the app won't install. Waiting to hear from the app store how to fix or get my money back. Very frustrating.
After setting up my email address and password, it told me the password was wrong. I had to go through the forgot password routine just to set it up again. So far, no magazines available.
Worst app I have experienced. I have a magazine subscription but cannot get the app to work. I have reset password several times. Not worth any more time. I should have heeded the many that advised dumping this poorly written app.
Unable to reset my password (says cannot connect even though I'm clearly connected). Nowhere to get support; link just dumps you into the website which has nothing. Aw well, guess I'll dump it.
cant install it,because it constantly says "cant connect to the server at this time, pls try again later"! and how could you not have a feedback button in the whole UI???!!!
Horrible navigation. Going from one page to another up, down, sideways. A mess. Nothing like some digital publications, that enhance the reading experience by not trying to blast me with things that I don't want or need.
Have iOS 5, am subscriber, but could not connect to server. It is message -1004. Surprising that as a major publisher they are having such a rather basic issue with an app. I will wait until debugged.
Horrible app. I subscribed to the magazine just to have the iPad version available -- but this app does not work so I will be asking for my subscription money back. Too bad. Great magazine but sucky app -- I expected more from Conde Nast!
