Terrible and we’re paying
I called tech services for probably the 3rd or 4th time. Some have heard of the issue but some are baffled. While replaying recorded shows, the volume drops while the video is playing or it freezes or both. It’s very aggravating to know you’re paying for all Cox services but have so many issues with the basically free one. Then, no one has a resolution about their own product. I was told it’s my phone. Wow. So disappointing when every other app etc works on my phone.

Apple TV app
Where do I start? Very slow to respond when trying to load new channel. Audio drops out every now and then for about 5 seconds. When hitting the back button to go to the menu it doesn’t stay on the channel that was currently being watched, it jumps up a few channels. It would be nice to see more info when sliding down on the remote instead of just one line. DirecTV and DISH have a nicer layout for the menu. Please overhaul the APP.

Sound was fixed for a day
The sound bug was repaired for one day or so but now is back. I have given up on this app and gone directly to the website for a news program I watch. So much better without a sound issue. So long Cox App!

Good Experience
As long as you have a cox subscription and are on Wi-Fi that’s connected with your subscription, You will be fine to use it. I have been using this app to stream NFL games and watch tv on my Roku tv through airplay because my contour box is not working. It has definitely been pleasant experience.

Go ahead and try them and see how they mind eff you into giving up. They kept texting me harassing stuff on my cell phone despite me repeatedly asking them to stop that it was very early morning. The latest update is cumbersome and awkward
In this latest update you need to “click” more times than necessary to view a program from the guide. It’s clunky and cumbersome. Why can’t I click on a title then click “watch” to view the program. I mostly watch tv on my iPad and this is making me rethink my tv provider. Please please keep it simple. No need for “ how cool would this look if we did “x” “. Just keep it simple please.

App won’t Open
That’s it. The app won’t open! PERIOD! This app is horrible! It needs to be updated badly! Come on Cox! Please do something! We are customers paying for your service. The least you can do is provide a product that works properly! Half the time the app won’t open like now! And there are frequent blips in the audio. It really takes the enjoyment out of watching a program.

One of the worst apps out there
I have continual problems with this app freezing up, losing audio, not accessing chsnnels or telling me it can’t locate my service. I have called a half dozen times with them telling me it’s going to 2nd tier support and then nothing after that. This app is awful and worse than the one my company has.

Horrible
Horrible app and zero response from developers. The ONLY time you should use this app is when you want to become angry and frustrated with Cox Cable. Cox Cable is frustrating enough on a good day but utilizing this app ensures you are able to carry the frustration in your pocket. 10 out of 10 do NOT recommend this app.

iPad worked fine before this app. After i downloaded it the iPad became frozen and overheating. The app doesn’t work. It’s truly the least functioning app ever. Why force users into something that doesn’t work. Watching on the internet worked perfectly fine! This makes me want to cancel Cox

Doesn’t work
1. Can’t watch live tv. Buffers endlessly when connected to wifi (trying to watch on iPad). 2. Website forces you to use app even though it doesn’t work 3. Half the time the app won’t even load / crashes the iPad. Bad! Fix!

Chromecast Bug - PLEASE FIX
I cannot use my chromecast with this app because the menu shows for a second then disappears. This isn’t an issue on my iPhone, so it’s definitely an issue with the iPad version of the app.

Terrible
Can’t use this to monitor severe weather. It disables the playback controls so you CAN NOT watch emergency weather broadcast. It interrupts any broadcast including important information needed to stay safe in an emergency.

Need more features/options
Like others new to the area, I came from a state that has Xfinity, which was great. I decided to go with Cox when moving to AZ because I thought it was so similar to Xfinity. At home, using Contour tv it's great, basically the same as Xfinity. But the Contour app for iPad definitely is not up to par. With my previous Xfinity app, I could record shows, watch shows previously recorded via tv, or record from the app, etc, etc. I'm quite disappointed with the Contour app! I'm truly hoping you will add these additional features soon! I want the ability to watch my recorded shows on my iPad while in a different room of the house, or while on the go, or specifically when on vacation, as I did when I had Xfinity! Cox customers pay a lot of money for their services and we expect to get our money's worth!

How can you be a " supposed" prestigious cable provider, and not listen to the people that are continuously telling you that the app is worthless?? You can't record, which is the main reason most people even TRY (and I use the term loosely because all mine does is buffer) and install this app. I feel like no one at Cox even acknowledges anything we're trying to tell them. They could care less! I had Dish before I had to change to Cox because I needed the Internet services and my modem was one I bought from them a year ago. I feel like I lost everything! I could record on the go, watch on the go, and skip the commercials with the "Hopper." I miss Dish so much it hurts. As big a company as Cox is, you'd think their services would be top notch. But Dish and Direct TV are leaving them in the dirt! It's like they're think they're so superior that they take their customers for granted, and quit caring a long, long,time ago. They've gone totally downhill in the last few years or so. At this point I think I'm going to eat the cost of the modem and go back to my beautiful DISH. Thanks for all your non-help, T.C.R.

Wants a “University” Sign in! Will not work
I have used this app for the past several years with no issue. Over a month ago, it all the sudden asked me to sign in using a “university” login… I have contacted COX Tech Support, and after someone “worked” with me via an online chat for over 3 hours, they gave up and said they had no idea what was wrong on how to fix it. She was going to start a trouble ticket and get back with me…that was over a month ago!!! Still nothing. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the app several times and it still asks for the same thing. I have been on the COX forums and have seen others with the same issue…but no resolution or acknowledgement by Cox of a problem. They have no problem collecting my money every month…but seem slow to assist when they’re service doesn’t work. I see a lot of folks leaving Cox when Verizon FIOS becomes available in my neighborhood. Competition is a good thing, something Cox hasn’t experienced in this area before.

At Home Sign-In Issue
I am trying to watch local channels and the app keeps telling me that I cannot watch them because I am not at home even though I am sitting in my office about 6 feet from the Cox cable modem and my router. yes, I am connected to my own network! I contacted Cox and performed all of the typical Cox recommendations: reboot the cable modem, reboot the router, restart y iPad, and uninstall and reinstall the app. Oh, I don’t want to forget clearing the browser cache! I told them that I had done all these things before I bothered to call them but they insisted that I do it again. After about 45 minutes I was transferred to a higher level trouble shooter and spent another 45 minutes making no progress. I was then told they would have to create a ticket and forward it to a special department that handles app problems. That department was supposed to contact me when they solved the problem. It has been a month and guess what? I have not heard one thing and my problem has not been solved.

Not so much a review
With all the problems, not only with Contour, but overall I can only say when the ‘exclusive’ nature COX has on the consumer is replaced or gone COXis going to see a large number of people migrating away from the company. We came from another state and had XFINITY and other service providers and COX even though electronically and programming wise being ver similar leaves COX lagging behind overall in many ways. We for one are planning a change as soon as our contract is up. COX’s attitude, knowing they have a hold on you, and not budging a bit on programming and forcing features not needed but by us not wanted and other conditions just leaves us very frustrated. Company policy can be changed to give good customer service and keep their customers. The quality of this so called service doesn’t come close to their cousin XFINITY or many of the other providers we have subscribed to before moving to Arizona. Looking into the exclusive nature and how they maintain that exclusiveness is my next research project..

I'm no longer a fan
I’d given this 5 stars back when I first reviewed it. No longer. Before the weekend, I got our full complement of tv channels through Contour on my iPad. Not this morning. We’re missing channels between 31 and 43 and between 47 and 80. After spending an hour with a tech on the phone and multiple deletes and reloadings of the app, the best answer I could get is, “It’s a problem you’ll have to take up with Apple.” Update three days later: as unhappy with Cox as I frequently am, I must admit they really have been good about trying to help solve problems. When I sent email to tech support to complain about the problem noted above and the advice I’d gotten on the phone, the answer was quick and the problem was resolved within 48 hours. Won’t go all the way back to 5 stars, but I’m a happy camper again.

So far, so good
I just signed up month-to-month with Cox after having Spectrum for the last two years. I like this option of only paying $10 extra to not be tied into a contract. Spectrum was way too expensive paying almost 220 a month after one year of service. I decided to go with Cox because everyone in the area has this company. I am still waiting for my equipment that I ordered two days ago so I might be writing this review a little early, but I already have access to their Contour app to watch tv. I was hesitant to sign up with Cox, but so far being able to access cable on their app with no issues is a plus in my book. I hope I feel this way after using their services for a few months.

It's really nice...
I'm surprised at all the bad reviews. This app works well for me. For those wondering what's the point; I find it useful when my husband is watching the main TV in a given room and I want to be in the same room watching something different. This app facilitates this nicely. I also wake up earlier than my family and can watch TV quietly on my phone with a headset (including in the bathroom). Beautiful interface, clean and intuitive. I love it. The only reason I marked it down a star is because we lost features with this version--it is missing the Record feature and Send to TV feature that the predecessor apps offered. Other than that, well done, Cox. P.S. I also would like to see a feature added that allows us to watch our recorded programs. That would be awesome.

What the heck
Had to pick a star or I would not have. Cannot get to the portion of this app that supposedly lets you filter programs that can be watched outside of home wifi range. Cannot see any shows all of a sudden except my recently watched. NOTHING produces when I search things. Even the titles that are already in my previously watched. Get it together. I pay almost 300 monthly for this garbage but not for much longer at this rate. Terrible service is the benchmark here. And I was employed there at one point so I can say truthfully they treat their employees just like their customers....how deplorable. Have a dependable product that actually works. Got the app because the service at home is hit or miss and after several service calls and being convinced to buy insurance so I won't keep getting charged I get to to bring my own boxes in AGAIN for new ones IN CASE that's the problem not even an option to get them brought. Update 22 April..... Well you guys dropped another “update” last week. Figured I would give it a bit and see if “quality” was anywhere in the neighborhood. Nope. Still big lags in performance on a top of the line iPad. Perhaps the programmers could learn to pump gas for a living? Doctors practiced the way you program and cemeteries would fill. Cox: Later this year you are getting a competitor in my area and I will no longer be stuck with you as my only choice for TV/Cable. Up your game if you want to have a shot at my business. —————————————————————————- Update 17 February, 2019: Your “upgrade” 3 days ago was a bust, as usual. Uninstalling and reinstalling (1 week old iPad Pro with lots of memory— no hardware excuse available to Cox). ——————————- Response to my current review is a Cox cut and paste from last March! You guys are sloppy. HomePod is not the same as AirPod. 1. Still mistakenly prevents me from access when on my home wifi (and no VPN). Did everything including reboot multiple times. 2. Still denies the ability to play the audio through a HomePod speaker. Adjustments to the interface with the last “update” make the user experience worse. Please take more pride in your design and coding. Why not just drop Cox? Cox has a monopoly in my area, so I am stuck with you.

Not on iPad Pro you don’t!
I bought a new iPad Pro specifically to watch TV in my kitchen on a bigger screen. Contour won’t load and after too much time spent talking, emailing and texting with Cox there is no resolution. I have an older small screen iPad in another part of the house and there’s no problem accessing Contour there. Cox says to contact Apple, Apple says to contact Cox. Cox should not be claiming Contour can be used on all my devices when it can’t. That’s false advertising. I received an email response to the above review saying “we can make this work.” When I click “contact the developer” in the email, I’m taken to an unrelated page. Seems impossible to find a contact person. To answer questions I was asked: My iPad Pro has the latest IOS -13.4.1. My iPad automatically upgrades to the latest version. I have no problems with any other apps. I would love to get this resolved. Thank you!

glitches not fixed in updates EVER
Stupid app added Telemundo to my favorites and will NOT let me change it. Will not let me remove Game Show Network from my favorites, which I never added. There has NEVER been a update to this app. The app decides which channels are your favorites, even if you never watch them and try to change them. Removing the app and reinstalling did not fix problem. Many unwanted channels appear on favorites and can not be removed. Within the app store, the 'report a problem' feature has been disabled. Having the channels you watch on the favorites screen is a must, to scroll thru all channels is 100's of screens with small, unrecognizable icons/logos. Some random channels are in in proper alphabetical order like the rest. NBC can be found in channels that start with "K" but you have to scroll thru 100's of screens to find it.

Still subpar to Directv
This app has definitely improved from a year ago but I am still left disappointed that you can’t access your recorded shows. This is the main reason that I cannot wait to switch back to Directv because their app allows you to not only watch shows from the app but be able to search for your favorite shows and record them from the app itself. It also allows you to download all your recordings onto the app to watch when you’re not connected to WiFi. In regards to this, the Cox app just does not compare and as someone that is always on the go, the mobile app is a deal breaker for me. If Directv is capable to have all those features, there’s no reason Cox can’t make the effort to do the same.

Sleep timer
Could you please fix the app so it turns off with the timer? It only shuts it off for about 5 seconds then it comes back on. It used to work. Thanks This is a response to”which timer are you referring to”. I’m referring to the timer function of the native clock app on my iPhone 6 Plus. There is a setting labeled “when timer ends stop playing”. The contour app used to shut down when this was enabled. It now shuts off, the lock screen enables, and after 7 seconds the sound resumes. In contour settings, “Allow background audio” is disabled. I have uninstalled and re-installed the contour app several times, with phone restarts in between. Hope you can help.

FINALLY WORKS
After MANY months of battling that buggy 1st version of Contour, and even Contour 2 before today, I finally have almost all the Cox channels working on my iPad, and the app actually knows I am on my home network. It loads fast, the guide is laid out just like on the cable box, and it WORKS. We went months seeing the aggravating "you are not on your home network" error on the first app, and when it did that in Contour 2 last week on the first time I tried it, I was convinced we'd never get a good usable app on our device that actually had a smart and clean user interface. Lo and behold, this thing works now, and Cox had better not break it!

Nothing surprising from Cox at all...
Just like everything Cox provides, this is a terrible, unreliable, scummy service. I downloaded this app because my dad passed away recently so I went to visit my stepmom out of state. Back home, I have the NHL package purchased ($40 for 5 out of market games in the season to avoid ridiculous blackouts) so I was really hoping to watch a game that was scheduled since it was only going to be an ESPN blackout game. Im thinking perfect, this is why i paid $40 for those few games, in case of a situation like this. Of course i log in and everything seems good. I go to see the hockey channel, and it says i need to be connected to my home network to watch...... if I am at home and have full access my TV, why on earth would I want to be watching on my iPhone. so just another useless and scummy "feature" from Cox

Not able to watch recorded tv shows
We just moved to an area where Cox is offered from an area where we had XFinity. I was so bummed leaving a cable company I really liked but found that Cox has essentially the same features such as voice command on the remote and the guide etc are the same design. Well I finally downloaded the app since I was going on vacation and like to watch my recorded shows at night. There’s no access to recordings! With XFinity I could watch recorded shows and set up recordings while away from home. Such a huge disappointment. So I then decided to click on one of the shows I watch weekly and shows the most recent episode is available, so I thought. I have to be in my own home to watch it. Really?!? Why can I get access through the networks app by signing in through my Cox account but not on the Cox app?

Much better, but...
Okay, this app works great on the IPad Pro. PIP is really nice, and loads crazy fast. The only thing I would add, is the ability to have favorite channels on tv listing. You can narrow it down to just HD, which is nice, but I will never ever watch golf channel or many others on the listing. It would be nice if the tv listing could show only the channels I want to see. Now, I can't tell you how this works on an older iPad or iPhone, but if you don't expect your hardware to last forever, and occasionally upgrade, I think you will find this is a pretty good app. Works very well on my 6plus and my sons IPad Air too. Just give me more control over my tv listing and I will be happy.

So far really enjoying it
I’ve been using it while traveling and it’s been great. I use it on WiFi with an iPad and cellular data on an iphone. So, I haven’t seen the problems others say they have using it on a non-Cox internet connection while traveling away from home (I’m using it on both ATT WiFi and Xfinity Comcast WiFi). My cellular data is on T-Mobile. Of course at home it’s on a Cox Contour router. I’ve been watching a standard cable channel BET currently (not the BET app, which didn’t work or let me find the show I wanted to see).

No AirPlay/Chromecast/etc. Support
This app is worthless and a waste of space. Can only watch on device, not on TVs without a cable box via AirPlay, chromecast, etc. Wonderfully restrictive capitalist model you’ve got there, can’t wait for cord cutters to bring this company to its knees. You’re better off downloading the channel-specific app from the App Store than using this trash, but the COX servers will probably fail when you try to authenticate. Because they also don’t support single sign on like their competitors :) Also, a tidbit if you have an Apple TV: you cannot mirror your iPhone screen while watching as that’s considered a licensing breach. Hmm whatever could y- oh yes! Negotiate a deal with the channels you already have and make this app Apple TV compatible! But that would make too much sense, why would COX ever want to be a functioning business?

contour pwd lost on upgrade
I love Contour. i have become dependent on it or at least used to its convenience. I want to say that first because otherwise I wouldn’t be appreciative to the developers. And I wouldn’t take the time to review it. My recent upgrade to Iphone XS however caused me to need to re-enter my pwd. Now you may be saying to yourself ... yeah duh. but I backed up everything to my itunes and restored all the apps and data from my 7plus to this iphone. For some apps I lost my pwd and others I didn’t. God bless those developers who retained it and for those who did not... please mote this experience.... If I now reset my pwd I have to resign in with the new pwd on all my devices... the old contour pwd is stored on those others but removed on my iphone Xs now. I saved my conour pwd to a post it note but when I try the pwd it rejects and wants me to reset. I guess I have to bite the bullet and do the reset but sigh... Wife’s phone is gonna reset... kids... computers... all because cox doesnt back up my pwd.... which brings me back to the start... if I didn’t like the app I wouldn’t bother... but I do and it’s gonna cost me ...

This app is still sub par, it does not allow viewing of certain programs, the excuse is you need to be connected to your in home wifi. Well that is false, I am still not able to view certain programs even when I am connected to my in home wifi. I called customer support and I was told because of issues with that app, I would need to delete the app and reinstall. Well that did not work. This has been going on for years, and the response is the same, we are working on fixing these issues”. The app also does not allow me to download any shows for viewing off wifi, very disappointing for the money Cox charges. Direct TV is still a better option, Cox is years away from competing. VERY DISAPPOINTED long time customer☹️

Mostly useless
About 99.9% of stuff you can only watch at home, which makes it useless for me. We have 3 TVs what's the point of watching it on a smaller screen like an iPad or iPhone? Are you on vacation and want to catch an episode while you are away from home? Are you on a road trip and think you can catch that sports game over your cellular iPad while sitting in back of car? Do you travel a lot for work and want to stay current with your local news or the latest episode of your favorite show? Well good luck with that because it's not going to happen. Yes, they have a few things on the GO section of the App, but very little and there's a fair amount of junk. Seriously not interested in a show about karaoke or some other reality-tv garbage. So yea for me mostly useless and adds no value.

Works really well.
I see all the complaints about logging in, but no problems for me. I compared their live TV channels to my cable TV setup at home and it's spot on. The only problem is that the available channels are not the same as those I have on my TV at home, it's much more limited on the contour app. For example, couldn't get cable news channels. I may have to play around with the app a bit more to see if I need to set something to get these channels, or if it's just that the app doesn't provide all the channels available on my cable TV. But so far, better than I expected it to be given all the complaints.

App rarely works
This app would be great if it worked and did what it claims it does from their commercial. The commercial said you can record shows from the app and watch them from the app. This app doesn’t do this. It also has A LOT of issues. During a 30 minute show, the app crashes at least 10 times. It also has a lot of issues with the screen freezing as soon as the show comes back from commercial. The sound work but the screen freezes on the channels “we’ll be right back” screen. So, I hear the voice but don’t see it. I have to close and reopen 2-3 times to be able to watch the show with picture AND sound. This happens at lease once every time the show comes back from a commercial break. It’s never happened during a commercial break, just during the show. This app also cuts out parts of the show. When watching a comedy, it’ll come back from commercial break mid-punchline. It comes back mid sentence. Cox REALLY needs to fix A LOT about this app, or just delete it and start over. I’ve had several different TV providers and Cox’s app is the worst.

Cox needs to do better especially for the money people pay to have their services. Why have an to stream on the go and you can’t even watch anything unless you’re at home on your wifi?!? Where do they do that at?!? The whole point of on the go streaming is bc you are not home…duh! And when home you’d think people will be utilizing their COX services on their TV instead of using the app on their phone, laptop, or tablets….it could just be me but that’s my take on this useless streaming app for a service you already pay for. You’d have to download every single network app separately just to see if your service credentials will allow access….probably not so ….next please Cox is only good while at home.

Channel Audio
Some channels have major sound issues when watching on tablet or phone, such as Oxygen and WGN. (plays volume for 3 seconds then silence. Very annoying.) If you read reviews I’m not the only customer with this issue. Update fixed the shrink/multitask issue, but I still can’t watch certain channels because no sound. Noticed difference in commercials with TV vs iPad. I’ll be sitting outside watching a show on iPad and see the same channel inside has different commercials which is very odd. Beside the sound issues, I use this app a lot and I like it. Just wish they’d fix the sound issue on channels that I pay extra to have but can’t even hear.
