I did have to sign in with a credit card but there is a three day cancellation. So I canceled same day after allowing each of my three children to try using this app. The application has many different levels but they are marked with cartoon characters rather than a description of the math function that is taught at that level. The voice is robotic and has a British English accent. It is also very very slow to load each level. And every time you back out of the level it changes back to the first child’s profile. It doesn’t adapt to the expected level of the child based on the age but starts even my older child off at a five-year-old level. Then again my five-year-old had access to what would probably be third or fourth grade mathematic which she selected based on the cuteness of the cartoon character that represented it. I wanted to love this app and I hope they make major improvements such as adding a repeat button for children who cannot read the very tiny word problem Text. The problem should be presented in numeric format and read to the students several ways. I believe this app has great potential but it is not ready yet. I did like that they allowed for sliding fees based on income so that is very helpful as a single parent who does homeschool.
Elephant Learning promises a year’s worth of math in three months, but it took my child six months to get there. They also claim lessons are only 10 minutes, but they usually take 20. The app’s touch controls are frustratingly unresponsive—I even checked to make sure my kids’ fingers were clean and dry! The lesson interface looks clunky and outdated, and the animations after each question are “cringe,” according to my kids, offering little motivation. Overall, the app feels misleading, not worth the time, and not worth the money.
There needs to be a way to seperately set or mute the volume for extraneous sounds (the bells, whistles, clapping , etc) when there is a correct answer. The volume needs to be fairly high to hear the questions clearly (for some reason they are read in different accents). However, this makes the other noises, music, sounds seem VERY loud. My noise sensitive child covers her ears every time she gets an answer right and I get annoyed with these sounds when they are doing the program in the car. Also, the “affirmation noises” (especially the clapping one) seems to go on far too long. A nice little ding, or a voice saying “correct” should be sufficient. I will adjust my review as these issues are addressed.
I installed this app on my iPad and the Kindle version on a brand new kindles as well. I really like the idea behind this app, and was excited about our subscription. Unfortunately the apps on both devices were totally glitchy. My kids couldn't play more than 2 to 3 minutes at a time without the app exiting right in the middle of a game. Half the time, the instructions took 10 seconds before they even started, which is on intolerably long time for a two or a four or a six-year-old to wait. The other half of the time, the app did not recognize my children's fingers touching the screen, or didn't respond to it at least, despite the fact that every other app on my devices recognizes and responds to my children's fingers just fine (so I know it's not just that the screen is dirty or their fingers are dirty). All in all, I really wanted to like this app and subscription, but an hour of children getting more and more frustrated is not my idea of fun math.
This app is excellent and works as advertised. My 5 year old son and 8 year old daughter really had fun doing math with this app. The developer is very responsive to questions and even called me personally. Reading the other reviews I think some people didn’t get it. This curriculum is created custom for your child and is presented as a game. The child can change the games theme/skin at any time, but the content is the same. My 5 year old son loved the submarine theme, and the cool reward icons that show up after each problem. My 8 year old daughter choose the unicorn theme for her games. 1. The animal / character icons are just different themes, not levels and not different content. 2. The experience is seamless even when you change themes. 3. The whole thing starts with an assessment, so my kids were shown both familiar and new concepts. The app customizes the content for each child based on their initial assessment and ongoing scores. Overall I am very satisfied with the product and the support. The developer was responsive, polite and very professional.
They deliver what they promise this is what matters
Elephant Learning is amazing. Not only have I been recommending this academy to my friends, but my non-profit is helping kids from low-income families get access to this application because it does help kids learn a year of math in 3 months! And so far kids we have been giving it to enjoy using it! You sign up, get your child evaluated and it places your child based on his knowledge so they are being given right activities at the right time. There is always guidance available for parents in personalized parent cabinet, help is available on their Facebook page and it is beyond what I was expecting. These math professors really do know what they do.
They block your ability to comment or leave a review
We tried elephant learning a few years back and my son did not like it and it was not engaging at ally The technology was really horrible especially compared to other apps that were free. It needed work so we cancelled it. Fast forward a few years I noticed a sponsored ad by elephant learning and I saw all the positive comments, I went to the FB page and realized I was still following them so I tried to comment asking if they have done any updates since I last used it. Well wouldn’t ya k ow I can’t comment on anything or leave a review. If you cancel or aren’t satisfied it seems as if the turn off your commenting so they won’t have any public negative feedback. Wondering if this is true otherwise what is the reason that I’ve been blocked from commenting or leaving a review???
I’m really loving this app. My kid has shown huge improvement, and the app has helped fill in some of the gaps in his learning, making him much more fluent in math. As a homeschooler, I find this an invaluable resource. My kid is not loving the app so very much. The “games” are basically like interactive worksheets. Not as fun as other math game apps, but much more thorough and effective. But we’ve discussed that he can survive 10min of just about anything, so he does his work without much complaint, often while we’re driving to a fun activity. I anticipate using this program for a long time.
I have an 8 and 12 year old and both love doing Elephant Math. Great concept teaching and great for learning the theory behind the math, not just rote memorization of times tables and other facts, really helps them understand what math problem MEAN. Love it!! Only suggestions: find a way to hide their Elephant Age or reframe it as Elephant Score because it is discouraging to kids to see they are behind. Also, for kids with difficult to pronounce names there is a pronounciation adjustment feature (which is so thoughtful) but we never could get it to pronounce my daughters name right. Now she just giggles at the pronounciations. Lol!
I thought this would be at least engaging for young children (my son is in Kindergarten) but in my experience it’s extremely repetitive and boring. It keeps asking the same questions that my son has correctly answered, and asks him to repeat the same skill. Repetition can be important, but in this app it’s beyond excessive. My son would get really annoyed with it and wouldn’t want to use it. I ended up signing him up for ABCmouse and I was much more impressed with their ability to make the content engaging by continually challenging my son. The math games in ABCmouse are far superior, and I see the connection to the standards (I’m a certified elementary teacher). Further, the assessment on ABCmouse and the parent dashboard is much better in comparison. The price of this app and what it offers just doesn’t add up for me.
The program seemed helpful until introductions to functions and algebra operations, my child struggled, and the program did not adapt but instead continued to ask the same question over 20 times with no guidance. I reached out twice and got copied and pasted messages from the program description, which I had already read (also not helpful). Finally, I was so frustrated with the system that I canceled it, as my child now hates logging into the program and just gets more frustrated with his math homework than before he used the program.
First of all you don't know the length of minutes 1 minute has 60 seconds not 100 seconds. Secondly this is so easy that a 3 year old can solve these in 1 minute. Thirdly this is boring everyone GO USE PRODIGY at least PRODIGY has some sense into their website. Don't waste your time on this app if you downloaded this app i warned you and I have no idea how these people like this app I'm learning kindergarten math stuff not 4th grade math stuff . Donald trump probably made this dumb app. Im in fourth grade and I have common sense im not some dumb idiot who has no common sense. This a message to the founder of elephant learning : GO PLAY PRODIGY at least the founder adds effort and sense to their website. Now ADD MORE EFFORT INTO THE APP
Our 9 year old son has advanced nearly 2 years in math in less than 3 months. He loves elephant and has devoted more time to it than I would have asked him because he enjoys it so much. He accomplished this much work by devoting about 40 min a day during the week. He loves it and as his homeschool mom I am very pleased with the program and what he is learning and that it is fun for him too. It is easy to log in and track his work too. We haven't experienced any glitches with the program. It works great!
Maybe for older kids it is fun, but not for my 4 year old. She was over it in less than 5 minutes. I then played it with her to help her get further and see if it got more interesting, but it did not. I agree with her in that it is quite boring. I have free math apps that are far more entertaining. Also, the voice-overs don’t work half of the time (she can’t fully read yet, so that’s a big issue), and when they do work, they are extremely creepy robot sounding voices. Nothing screams “fun” or “for kids” about this app at all. I hardly ever leave negative reviews and give things the benefit of the doubt often, but with this I cannot and must leave my honest review.
I just checked my bank acct. and I deleted this app and unsubscribed from it at least a month ago but see that I was still charged for this month! Not happy! I would not recommend this based on that alone, but the app itself isn’t that great. They have all these options of characters to choose from to play with but they all are the same exact games there is no option to just do addition or just work on counting. I love that it progressed based on my child but they should have had more options for play as he got bored very quickly, and some of the activities he didn’t like so he should have a choice to move on from it as play the ones he does.
My kids did ok on this until they got to a level that was not review for them. At that point they became more frustrated because there was no instruction for concepts they did not know. They spent all the time guessing answers and not knowing why they were right if they did get them right. At this point the system still reported that their Math Age (comprehension) was jumping up drastically. No other math test my kids have taken has shown that they match the level Elephant Math says they are at or that they comprehend the topics Elephant Math says they mastered. My kids can not explain what they have learned because they have not actually learned anything from this app.
I am a 9 year old user, and you guys must be best friends with IXL! This app is just as bad about the users answering correctly but the app telling us it’s wrong! Do you guys know how much self esteem goes down because of this? The kids think they can’t do it, but surprise surprise, it’s the apps fault. And I thought this would be like abc mouse or prodigy (the best math games in the history of online learning), because my mom showed me that annoying video with that girl when you first started the app. And they keep repeating questions, and sometimes repetition is good for some subjects, BUT SERIOUSLY? It’s the same kind of things for every ‘game’ on there, just different objects you have to count.
For 35 bucks a month, I don’t think this app is worth it. There’s a voice that asks the student questions or makes requests and it’s sometimes hard to understand. Sometimes the voice doesn’t even work so my pre-reading 4 year old doesn’t know what to do. There’s no way to repeat the question either, at least no obvious way. I got this for my son who loves numbers and counting, but the problems with the voice and the poor quality interface make it worth like a $5 one time fee. Not $35 every month.
This app is great for like 5-8 year olds but for kids like me who would rather be wasting their time playing mindless games like Fortnite it’s kind of boring (no offense). Maybe you could make some math game that’s good for 12 -14 year olds! I mean my younger siblings dig this app but me ya know, maybe you could make some fun 2-D game like Mario and to defeat bosses you have to solve math problems or something like that. So anyway this is just a 12 year old suggestion and I think that kids like me would have a blast playing something like that instead of playing other games.
I was using it for the first time and it was ok. The next time I used it and played a different game it was the same thing and I lost interest because of it’s repeating. It was also annoying because I had to guess the answers and get bad scores because the game wasn’t instructing me on how to do the math. It would also move my answer ( after doing the math )to where it was before when I used the number line. This game would be ok for 4-8 but it needs a little bit of fun for older kids like in-game prizes.
This program is ridiculously expensive and my kids did not like it. I signed up for a free trial and then tried to cancel immediately. Unfortunately, I signed up for it on a credit card that I don’t often monitor. Just found out that they have been charging me $15 per month for the last 10 months! Called my credit card company and disputed it as many as I possibly could, but some of them are older than the statute of limitations to dispute. Frustrating. Called the company and got a message that they were having technical errors and it hung up on me. Never never again. Ick.
This app lists the child’s actual age, and below it lists their “Elephant Age” which is an assessment of their capabilities. For kids who are behind seeing this scoring system is a big hit to how they feel about themselves. If their goal is to make kids feel stupid they’ve done a great job. If the developer would use a separate scoring system not related to age I believe it would be a great tool. The kids and parents could map progress while not promoting hopelessness and frustration by not being able to achieve their calendar age.
I really wanted to love this app. My daughter had fun with the games, but the app runs SO SLOW on both iPhone and iPad that she would get frustrated after only a few questions. She’s too young to use the PC version, so unfortunately elephant learning isn’t a good fit for us or anyone else with toddlers.
Would you like to try to drag soccer balls to count them while they make obnoxious noises? Maybe you'd like to try and count them while they randomly jiggle? I had high hopes for this program, unfortunately they too have fallen into the trap of thinking they will make a children's learning app "high interest" and have only succeeded in making it distracting, annoying, and impossible to concentrate on the desired task. Both me and my eight year old wanted to toss the iPad across the room just trying to do the first part of the assessment.
My children have been struggling with math for years. We recently got this a couple months ago and I haven’t seen so much improvement in such a short time from only doing 20 minutes a day! I recommend this on a computer, it’s much easier to use.
The kids love it and I’m noticing progress! I’ve been trying to explain tens for months, and she picked it up after 20 minutes of Elephant Learning. It is frustrating when they make you try to remember the number from the last problem instead of displaying it, but it’s not a dealbreaker for us.
So many things that aren’t great about this app, 1. Repetitive (When it comes to solving questions it tends to repeat questions and it seems they have a very low amount of questions, as when I tried it repeated questions were on the usual. (This is a good thing when it isn’t to repetitive, but in this case it is to repetitive) 2. Noises (When you start beginning you instantly become deafened from all the noises and voices, you can’t turn it off either. The voices are very hard to understand so if you can’t read it you can barley hear it either.) 3. Levels (When it comes to levels you can pick many different characters but none of them are different when it comes to gameplay.)
Horrible customer service. They were very rude to me, a parent and a customer. Also, the app itself is repetitive in the gameplay (offers dozens of games, but they're all the same games, just different themes and icons). Boring after some time for kids. It's also really difficult to understand the robotic voices on some of the games. They're all British accents and computerized so kids may not be able to make out some of the questions.
I tried EL for all three of my kids, ages 17, 11, and 4. I sat with them each day so I could see this program in action. Essentially children are asked questions and that’s it. It’s a test, again and again. There is no instruction. When they get a problem wrong, there is no explanation as to why they got the problem wrong. This just was not at all helpful for our children. I don’t know a child who enjoys taking a test over and over everyday.
I wrote an honest review on their FB. It was professionally worded and as polite as possible. Basically I said Elephant Learning wasn’t good for children under a certain age and that the app was not worth the price. They must have deleted the comment and banned me from making new comments. I can no longer see my comment in the feed and I no longer have a comment box. If I were you, I’d spend money on a better app from an honest company.
My son enjoyed the interactive app. Folks complaining about sounds need to learn how to adjust the volume on their device. In a real classroom setting, there are tons of distractions from the teacher to the other students, and so on.
Elephant Learning has been very beneficial for our sons. They have learned such a great deal in a short amount of time. The app is easy to use, even for my three year old. The only suggestion I have is to make the voices less robotic sounding and differentiate the activities a bit.
You see dozens of games, but they are all the same, just with different themes. The graphics are very cheesy, and the voice, oh boy, you get all kinds of different accents even Indian! What’s the point? My kid was annoyed by the cheap graphics and odd accents, and got bored very soon. For a kid who is so used to the finely made apps like Khan Academy Kids(free!), this one just won’t do it. For $35 a month, you should just get a couple decent edu apps for life time use.
I had high hopes with the claim “learn a year of math in 3 months” They do not inform you when you sign up, that you will max out of their program at 13.2, even though they claim to serve up to 16. They also offer no instructions when a problem is wrong, leaving higher level math students no where to figure it out if their parents aren’t the best at math. I do not recommend this if you have a 13+ math aged child
The voices are analogue horror type voices and glitch every 2 minutes (not even joking), looks like it was made on scratch windows xp version, and is just a quick cashgrab, don’t buy it. It does what it’s supposed to but SOOOOO awfully (if you can use it, it doesn’t help you give new passwords or work like 90% of the time.) If you want a fun math game that actually works, go to prodigy.
I was skeptical of an app helping and not having a negative effect for screen time. But I am sold. Our daughter loves the elephant app. Not only has she had incredible wins and gains since starting, she gets excited by her own progress. The levels continue to repeat until she gets it understanding of it and I have noticed a massive growth in her skill. At 3.5 years old she’s already beyond a 5 year olds math comprehension.
The app itself is, yes, boring but it exercises the brain. The only problem is if you exit out of the app without closing it completely, it still thinks your on the app and takes time away. But the SOUNDS, wow I did not know that a unicorn sounds like a dying duck but now I do.
I rarely write an App review but this one was so terrible that I had to do it. The games are boring and outdated, we could never get the sound to work, password reset wouldn’t work, and I reached out with support and never received an answer. $50 down the drain. I canceled my subscription 2/1/23. Hopefully they don’t continue to charge me.
I’d like a refund. The program is super slow, the application doesn’t work properly: some times the voice works and some times it doesn’t, unable to drag objects and need to constantly restart the program over again
My kids all love using the app and they are learning a lot and building confidence in their skills. However, the voices in the app are horrible and hard to understand.
The app doesn’t work very well (glitchy) and lacks the excitement that other apps possess. Splash Math and ABC Mouse are way less expensive and have a much better design. Developer requires direct contact during cancellation and scolded me for cancelling. I can see why others have been dissatisfied with the customer service.
Don’t believe the reviews on Facebook. They’re fake!
I cancelled elephant math within the first two weeks. They had already gotten the very expensive monthly subscription. Download a free math app and you are better off. The graphics are horrible and there is nothing engaging about the content. Don’t spent your money here, it’s a lie.
From the start they want your credit card and information. Well, shoot I gave them personal information but NOT my credit card. No thank you. Suggestion: let the user try out your app and see if they like it and THEN ask for credit card. Goodbye.
They make signing up easy, but canceling is impossible. You cannot cancel your subscription from the app. It tells you to go to the website, but the website can not be pulled up. Will have to file a dispute with my bank.
This app is not usable unless you pay for it. I thought ai was downloading a free app but you can not use the app without sending them your email first. Then the email takes you to a page to pay for the app.
