Great job in getting the iOS app out but I have some suggestions that would really help. It looks like this isn’t a native iOS app which is fine but it needs some work to work well. First when playing a video we need the ability to zoom into videos to fill up the screen on devices that have taller screens like iPhone X ect. Second when dragging a video down to close it or keep it in picture in picture mode the animation is broken and when you want to close a picture in picture video the swipe is really janky and broken. Third when you open a channel from the channels screen the button to go back should just be a back button and not a button that says channels and is blue. Fourth I can’t control the video from control center and I can’t pause or play with inline controls and there is also no AirPlay. Keep up the great work guys! Really rooting for you!
I love the app, but I have two mains issues with it. For one, about half the time I load up a video, the loading circle in the middle of the screen does not go away by itself. The only way to get rid of it is to reopen the app or is to exit the video and reopen it. This is pretty frustrating as it is distracting as it’s in the middle of the screen. The second issue is the app keeps on signing me out every couple days or something like that. This is the only entertainment app on my phone which signs me out after a set amount of time. I find this annoying as I like to sign in and forget. If I wanted to sign out, I would sign out. Not sure if this was a design decision or a bug. These bugs are not preventing me from using the app, it’s just annoying. Again, I love the progress you guys made on the app. Keep up the great work!
Much improved, but still not as good of a experience as Safari
Don’t get me wrong, the app is well designed and the video playback is very much superior than Safari’s video player. The downside is, there still aren’t as many features. This goes from a 2 star to a 4 star because the app is actually useable now, since the buffer glitch seems fixed. I think the main one I want to see in another update is background play/picture in picture support. Then, the app will go to 5 stars. PS: Maybe allow a link for sign up on the website since Apple can’t muzzle y’all anymore on that?
The latest update has done so much for this app. It was fine before, aside from a few bugs that went away after force closing the app, but the app feels so much better now. The new channel drop-down is great, I love being able to see videos from specific LTT channels with a button press instead of having to search. The video player has finally been updated and it is so much easier to use now. Before the close and maximize buttons were shoved in the corners of the screen, making it near impossible to click, but they’ve since been moved to a spot that’s much easier to use.
Definitely giving it five stars because I'm extremely happy with not having to use my web browser any longer on my phone and iPad. Wanted Features: Ability to see last viewed or favorite channel so I don't have to reach all the way up to the channels I subscribe to when entering app. (When not stored in ram) Viewed indicator: would be amazing to have cross-platform. Notification for newly released videos as an option but not automatically turned on. Smaller options for video thumbnails as an option to have more displayed on screen (iPad) Saved/Favorited/Watch Later folders (also-cross platform) I also assume you're working on managing subscriptions through the app but that'd be nice as well. Note: Have fun with SwiftUi. I couldn't find a LTT fourm for app discussion, that'd be nice to communicate through. Obviously it's a young app so I'm definitely not complaining about the above comments I just want to help by providing some additional input. -Austin_MrKrabs
New user and the first roadblock I hit is that Iliterally have no option to create a profile. Big oversight in my opinion and for people who give big importance to first impressions this might be a huge red flag right out of the gate and I wonder how many people haven’t even created their accounts and just straight up deleted the app cause it seems like a chore to just go and open a browser and create an account for something that shouldn’t be this complicated.
I got the float plane app so I could watch my favorite channels video a week in advance. The app is pretty good but pretty minimal. Works good for watching videos but I’ll leave some suggestions. 1. I wish there was a Apple TV app so I could watch on my tv. 2. Sometimes the videos stop buffering and just sit there with the wheel spinning in the middle. 3. The ability for channels to add playlists. Watching LTT I wish I could just see the regular videos or short circuit videos etc. Good work on the app floatplane team and sorry for how bad Apple has treated you.
It’s functional, and given how hard the development of this app has been (thanks to Apple) it’s actually better than I thought from what’s been said about making it. A few things make it hard to use though, on my iPad it only works in vertical except for video playback, and it’s 1 tile per row, so thumbnails are way too big and scrolling through a backlog cumbersome. The app also does not support AirPlay, my HDMI dongle for my iPad simply mirrors my screen in a small window on my TV. Overall though, it works in a pinch if you want to support creators and I’m glad it exists! I’m hopeful over time these things will get refined.
I love floatplane! And the content! Theres just a couple of features id love to see for the ios version to push it to 5 stars, the first would be ios notifications when new videos are uploaded, the ability to use ios picture in picture and airplay, and the ability to search through videos, so that we dont have to scroll through all the videos to find one we want! Keep up the great work!
There is literally no option to create a new account of where to go to create one?? I have been a Linus supporter for freaking years now. I mean years like even before the copper whole house water cooling project.. I thought y’all would be smart enough to include a super no duh option of giving an option to create an account on the frikin home sign in page??? Please do this so me and I am guessing probably tons of others that saw that and just left without complaining.. If you want more users you should probably give them an option to become a user lol
Overall love the app and design of the UI. However, it can be buggy at times with notifications, as well as some aspects of the UI. For example, on the iPhone 14 pro max, because of where the back button is located when you click on a channel, you have to be very precise to try and click it since it is just under the clock on the top left. This can be a bit frustrating at times.
Overall the app is fine. It does what I want it to, when I want it to. My primary issue is the lack of support for casting or airplay. If it’s in there, I cannot locate it. Having the option to cast would make this feel more complete. Not sure if there are maybe limitations in place that makes that not feasible? I’ll still use the app, and show my support for the platform, but felt I needed to mention that.
I started using a while back and loved it small development team so bugs were expected to be present their were a few minor ones tho they earned my respect nonetheless Now on to the one star theres a major issue upon signing in were after loging in the screen just goes white now i chaulked this up to the whole issue that started during the fight to keep on the appstore so I waited a few months and i just came back and still having issues so what is this i hope this issue gets fixed soon but the team will have my support still even while its an issue keep up the work team
Like the content, just need to add a couple feature to make the app on par with competitors. Biggest thing is remembering where the user left off in a video and the ability to pick up at the same place on another device. Another feature needed is PiP, this one is kinda a gimme as every other streaming service I pay for uses it. Other than that, I like the platform and I like the content. Just keep going in the right direction.
i’m mainly using it on my iPad and it could use some optimizations for it. firstly, being able to use in landscape, not just when watching a video. i hardly ever use my iPad in portrait. also, some iPadOS integration would be cool, being. able to split view and picture in picture. the iPad doesn’t see it as video so you don’t get the iOS video controls. i’m mew to the platform though and am glad that i joined. keep it up!
Recently started a subscription on Floatplane to help the developers directly for Floatplane and LMG. The website runs very well. A lot of features are slowly rolling out so I completely understand. The iOS app is a little buggy. I always get a loading screen icon when playing a video, even when the video is playing, making it impossible to pause. Keep up the hard work guys!
I've used the app on both my iPhone and iPad mini. The phone experience is ok, but the tablet experience is far worse. The app overall lacks good landscape support for tablets. For instance the app forces you into portrait orientation when opening the comment section. I've also had the issue that it'll randomly open the last video published when I first open the app. It works, but you'll have a much better experience on desktop.
I'm really into the idea of Floatplane, but I've got to say, I'm a bit puzzled. Why can't you sign up right in the app when you first open it? It seems like a no-brainer to let people get started without having to jump over to a browser. Just a bit of an unnecessary hassle, you know? Anyway, I'm going to stick with it and see how things go—I'll keep you posted with an update on my review after I've used it for a while.
The app is functional in the smallest way possible. Here is a small list of bugs that I’ve encountered that make using the app a headache: - Tons of layout issues. The app can’t decide if it wants to be in portrait or landscape mode and you constantly have to rotate your device, especially iPad - When using an iPad you can’t use the keyboard for playback control. Would love to be able to play/pause with the space bar, rewind with the arrow keys, etc. - No airplay menu. I know you probably don’t have the bandwidth to make a TV app, but at least add an airplay menu or a way to airplay from the app to another device. - No “Watched” indicator. I’d like to see what video’s I’ve already watch so I can see at a glance if I’ve missed anything or if I’m all caught up. I really love the service so far, but the clients just aren’t up to par with it yet.
I love what they are doing here with this app, but the loading circle just keeps randomly appearing on the screen and doesn’t go away unless you restart the video. Also Picture in Picture doesn’t seem to work for me at all. Overall the content is great though and it just needs a few bug fixes to be amazing.
This app is a great start and definitely a better way to watch on mobile than through a browser. Feature suggestions: 1. A way to submit feedback/bug reports from within the app (even if it’s just an email template) 2. Notifications directly from the app and a way to control preferences of them without going through the website.
The app is great it allows me to support my favorite creators. But the notifications don’t appear until you open the app. This has caused me to miss all of the streams my channels host And it’s driving me crazy because I signed up specifically for the streams and I don’t have a way to know when they happen.
With the iPad UI implemented, this is close to being a really good app experience. One thing that’s fairly annoying on iPad in it’s current state is that you can’t use the app in landscape apart from viewing videos, making using it with a docked keyboard super weird. The general feel of the app is fairly janky, but it works well enough for actually watching videos and commenting.
Great app and love the simplicity of the interface. I would love to see the app have offline mode where it’ll automatically download recent submissions from content creators I have subscribed too. Additionally it would be nice to have a background option because some videos I like to just listen too.
I absolutely love this app but my one complaint is that i've been watching past streams on my pc, and it shows which streams i've watched on there but doesn't show the same stuff on my phone so when i'm on my phone i can't tell which ones iva already watched on my pc
I like listening to LTT videos in the background while I work, typically with my phone off, so the lack of background audio support annoys me, PiP would be great! I love what Floatplane is doing and I hope the app gets more updates! :D
This app seems to be very stable and well built! I can appreciate the work that went into making this app work well. Some features I see missing is, right away, there should be a password reset flow included on the login screen.
Basic features like PiP and resuming playback after leaving the app/video (even on the same device) still aren’t there. The interface is minimal - and not in a good way. Not being able to sort videos makes this feel like a web view more than an app. Other times I can’t even log in. Bottom line: good effort, needs work, see me after class
I love the app and the premise - however, i’ve not been able to get the app to Cast successfully to any device. Sometimes, the app doesn’t show the available destinations at all, even after restarting multiple times and even reinstalling. Switching to any other app that supports Chromecast works immediately.
Finally we have a native way to watch Floatplane. Glad it's finally on the app store despite the bugs in the current release. It is a much better experience than the mobile website. Hopefully there's a full iPad version soon.
Love the app Luke and team. Only issue I’m having is that when I leave the app to check on something else, the video won’t play again. I have to restart the video and find my place again. Keep up the good work
After the last update I was really excited to try the app again. Everything about it seems to work pretty well, with 1 big exception; I can't get PiP playback to work. This means I can't do anything else on my phone while using the app, which is a huge negative and has made me go back to the website (which does support PiP).
It’s great! Easy to use and have yet to have issues. A feature I’d love to see is something like a watch later or playlist in general to Watch multiple videos in succession.
Love floatplane started when it was a forum section
You guys have come a long way and the interface looks awesome and I love the format, also treating your ogs special makes me smile for the future of floatplane. You guys rock hope this gets all the attention it deserves.

I can’t see vids from more than 3 weeks ago in app…. Bug? Also it does this weird thing where it forces me to be in portrait sometimes… webpage is pretty good on mobile tho
I want to give it a review AFTER I sign in and use it, but I accidentally clicked the stars so now I have to review an app I haven’t got to use yet. I gave it a 4 star because I don’t want to tank its score though. I made my Floatplane account but it won’t let me sign in, please fix this issue!
Overall the UI is clean and the app is easy to use. It is a little rough around the edges but it’s functional. Just missing some key features like background playback.
I'm guessing it may be that my MacBook Air 15" is too new. The app will not show video to the size of this display. I use it for notifications for now, but open a web browser to actually watch the videos.
It took a while, but the wait was worth it! App works almost flawlessly with only a few bugs here and there (nothing super annoying though). Thanks Floatplane team, keep up the good work!

It’s a great app but any video app really needs Picture in Picture mode and background play. As I see it as a extremely basic feature of a video service app my rating reflects such.
It’s a fine app. It’s awesome that the false buffering issue has been fixed, but I really wish it had casting functionality (I don’t have an HTPC at the moment).
These guys provide amazing app that let you see so much content. Apple stop bulling small app developers, and let them give us this amazing experience on your platform
It’s a little barren but also refreshingly clean. It’s a no fuss no nonsense way to use floatplane. You have everything you need and nothing you don’t.
There is no sign up option in the app! I had to turn to the google machine to find out how to create an account and then sign in using the iOS app. I have since created an account, and the experience has been good, but the lack of the ability to create an account from the dad gum app is infuriating.
I’m not a floatplane user but am a big fan of Linus Tech Tips and the WAN Show. So I downloaded this app so I could review it, that’s all. It’s probably the best app I’ve ever used.
Got floatplane to watch Garbage time (fun streams) and many times I miss when dankpods goes live because I sometimes don’t get notifications until after I open the App
