News Untethered
Freedom from a paper version and the ability to tap in and read anywhere at any time plus alerts on breaking news makes a subscription a great deal.

Keeping current on local and international news
Appreciate the overall coverage of news-love the opinion pages, cartoons-wish political cartoons were back-but people can’t handle them any more -too “siloed”. Letters to editor are balanced and let you see where people are “coming from”. Spotlight on areas of concern are good. Like puzzles and brain challenges. Local “big” stories keep you in the loop. GOOD Newspapers are critical to a democracy where people can try to make informed decisions. AI, etc make other media coverage worrisome for truth discovery. Just give me my printed word with all views represented factually and opinions of well known qualified advocates.

Broken App
Get my daily briefing in my email inbox, click on “read more” for a story I’m interested in, click on “open in app” because I paid for the app and I have the app, app says, “this story is only available to subscribers, sign in or subscribe“ EVERY TIME. How many times do I have to sign in on the same device?! Well, I am a paid subscriber, so I choose sign in. Now I have to solve a captcha?? Give me a break—this is a poorly edited, left-leaning rag, not a bank account. Sign in fails and I’m taken back to continue in this endless circle ultimately giving up. Why am I paying for this? I was interested in supporting a local paper and getting local stories, though the interesting ones are few. I suppose I’ll cancel. It’s far too partisan for my taste anyway.

Nightmare!
For some reason, I believe the writers of this app have gone live prematurely. This app is having trouble for subscribers logging in and restoring previous subscriptions. Chat agents are offering curt advice and acknowledge there are software difficulties. I recommend waiting a couple of weeks if you are interested in continuing/starting a subscription to the TU and then give it a try. Advertised subscription cost per month is $9.99 which is more than TWICE what I pay for either the New York Times or Washington Post. I am really trying to support this newspaper but they are not reciprocating. Maybe I just have the USA Today to blame since it seems they are now the parent company.

How is the App even on the market?
It forces targeted advertising. There’s no way to opt out of any of the cookies. Every time I click on a notification, I’m told it’s for “subscribers only”. That makes no sense. I have to back out of the article and then click into it from the main page for it for recognize that I am a subscriber. Don’t even bother thinking a paid subscription eliminates ads… I don’t understand how I can pay for the service and still have that many ads. It’s FILLED with the most nonsensical ads. After every paragraph, after every story, in between every picture, it’s unbelievable. Either take my money or take my data.

Having the FTU ensures that we have a local government that is responsive to the people. Statistics show that localities without a paper reporting on government, see higher rates of corruption than cities that do have papers. I also feel like the paper tries very hard to be balanced which is important too. You can never please everyone all the time and that includes me, but in general they’ve done a good job. I’m so thankful for the FTU.

Inconsistent and frustrating
Terrible app! Difficult to get it to load frequently. When it does load you must then wait for additional ads to load before you can access the section. If it were free I wouldn’t moan about an ad, but I pay for access and have all the ads of the print version I should not need to wait for more ads to load before i I can access section. Biggest flaw though is how poor the app works. Loading slow most often or not at all. I requested a refund for my yearly subscription but was told best they could do was to keep it from auto renewal in January.

Times Union App “Iffy”
I have found this App to work unevenly. Some days I can’t download the paper at all for hours, generally having to wait til 9 am or later. Trying to enlarge certain parts often sends me to the page before…it is frustrating. We like to print puzzles so we can both play but the system doesn’t stay connected and I have to reboot both my printer and IPad in order to continue. There is no easy way to print, so I had to find a workaround.

New version is terrible!
I have been reading the Florida Times Union e-newspaper for years. Last year they changed the app so now I not only get ads that are printed in the newspaper but I am also blocked from reading the articles that I want to read several times by ads that pop up and cover the screen until sufficient time has passed. Today, every time I double tapped to make the article larger or smaller it would send me back to the front page. Finally, it froze on one page and would not move. All this happened after I deleted the app and reloaded it.

Super easy to use, full of great content
The app give you a full sense of what’s going on in the city and surrounding areas of Jacksonville, allowing you to stay up to date on everything that’s happening around you. Full of great information for anyone who likes to keep up with the city’s projects to improve the area. Very informative.

Change to app has made it almost impossible to read!
The Florida Times Union app has never been great but changes to the app a few days ago has made it VERY hard to read. Now the page only covers about 1/2 or less of my screen and when I try to expand it to the whole screen it jumps around then gives me an extremely enlarged section so I can only read a few words at a time. I would cancel, but this is the only Jacksonville paper that covers the news. PLEASE, if you are going to update your app, don’t make it far worse!

Not a fan…
I was content with the previous app because it allowed me to view a print edition that included a page size view as I scrolled through the pages. This new one has the option of looking at a page too small to read or a page that is 1 1/4 times the full page size. So you have to adjust each page using two fingers to make it the right size. And even then it has all the clutter on the right side which obscures part of the page. If you can’t improve the app it may be best to leave it alone.

Recent update to digital edition
About 2 years ago I switched to the digital version because of delivery issues and cost. I was satisfied with the presentation until the recent update. It is horrible. Difficult to get the page sized right for reading and does not save the settings I want. Looks like something a 2 year old would do. No that is an insult to the 2 year old. OK I will try to be constructive. If you want to keep your subscribers you need to do some end user testing before putting something as bad as this online.

Times Union Paper on Computer
This is the next best idea of reading the local news! I can see what’s happening daily in and around Jacksonville, as well as around the world. I should’ve done this a long time ago…. If you haven’t continued getting our paper, try downloading it! It’s Great!!

Thumbs down!
I definitely do not like the changes made to the online edition! On my iPad it comes up as two pages that are the size of my phone screen and impossible to read! The “help” button is misnamed. It should be the ‘further complications’ button! I much prefer the previous less complicated version that filled my iPad screen with one readable page. Sure, I had to scroll to read the bottom of the page, but I prefer that to the gymnastics required in the new version. Karol Blomgren

Horrible. Forces targeted advertising
App forced me to agree to targeted advertising before I could move forward in it, and then said I could disable it in app settings. There does not appear to be any settings I can change for these preferences. This is predatory, and a very poor practice for an app I already pay a subscription to use. Either make it free with targetted advertising (since your going to be collecting and selling my data anyway), or at least don’t force targetted advertising on paying subscription holders. BOOO!

Missing sections
I find the new format of the Florida Times-Union difficult to navigate compared to the previous online image of the newspaper. The new format lacks the detailed sports page that list all scores and odds on one page. The financial section has changed dramatically eliminating all market details. The weather section has eliminated all maps, North Florida area air and water temperatures and charts showing temperatures and weather conditions in state, national and international cities. This format change is very distressing. Karl Smith Jacksonville

Diverse and Diligent
Jax is a huge landmass city (or five small towns in the same county). The T-U reporters do a great job covering current and upcoming events all over Jax. They might have a certain sway of opinion on issues…but all in all, very good reporting.

Updated to be lousy
The app freezes at least once each day while reading the paper. Pop up ads have been added and require you to wait until you can delete. The start up no longer goes to the enewspaper and requires the reader to search for the enewspaper link at the bottom. Wish there was another way to read the paper.

Worse than ever
Worse than ever. Navigation is difficult, the pages don’t load properly, the advertisements are insulting in cannot be skipped over until the Times-Union allows you to do so. The old app was more friendly to the user, and this one appears to be built on advertising for a newspaper that we pay for, I am appalled and do not recommend this to anyone.

Terrible unusable
This app will not let me read subscription articles even though they have been paid and when I try to load my subscription it never stops spinning and is jammed.I will call again for the SEVENTH time tomorrow as it is not working again & after only 2 days of service but tomorrow I will cancel. It’s too bad because I enjoy it when it works right.

Cumbersome
Even though I pay for 7 day a week delivery, when I read the web version, there is always a delay when I get to Metro so I can look at a web ad. This is bothersome. Fine for web based subscribers, but for $1100 a year subscribers, not so much!

A terrible disappointment
I read the e-edition. This replacement app is flawed. The articles rarely open in the reading mode. Ads appear on top of the paper which are hard to remove. The irony is that sometimes they are on top of another ad printed in the paper. The pages are difficult to scroll. Nothing works smoothly. This needs to be completely overhauled.

New Florida Times Union app
The new app is the worst for fitting to your iPad. The old version you just click on the bottom right. To fit screen and it worked. The new app you have to adjust and half the time it goes back to half screen or does not fit. Please go back to the old version.

Too many adds for subscribers
I do not recommend this new app. I am paid subscriber and now have to more obnoxious adds to deal with in this app. I understand for non-subscribers, but please give your paying customers a break and not require them to work through more ads as they go through each section of the newspaper. Very disappointing.

Glitchy—can’t read on iPad
Have been a subscriber for years. I Read in AM on MacBook and iPad. Over the last few weeks, reading on the iPad is impossible: black lines across page, page won’t center, won’t enlarge, etc. Thought if I bought on the APP store, it might be different. No different—still unable to read. Really like the FTU, but this is BAD!

This new update is terrible
Not sure why there was a change to the existing print edition app… This update, does not allow for full page viewing… if this is not improved, and at least move back to the way it was, I will likely cancel my subscription… It’s just not worth the frustration

New newspaper app
This is a horrible update. It only lets me go vertical with the edition. It doesn’t get clear on the page and it isn’t big enough to read. Please go back to page width settings. The pop up ads are annoying. I will look at the ads in the layout but don’t give me more ads. I don’t pay for that.

Terrible
The new Florida Times Union app has made the paper unreadable. The old app worked very well. This one is clunky, difficult to use and for the World section way off scale with no remedy. I have been reading the eNewspaper for ten years. If this does not change I will cancel. HORRIBLE

If I could give this negative stars I definitely would. Customer service is useless. They are only guessing when giving info. Each rep will give a different answer. Every rep says they are ‘tech support’. One rep didn’t know what company he was answering on the phone.
