You can’t do anything. You can’t submit regrades, view incorrect problems/feedback, all you can do is see that something is graded or not. Why even have an app? It also does not remember the sign in details so you have to enter the school and login manually every single time. Pretty poor development, but then again education doesn’t get the funding it deserves does it?
The actual UI isn't bad and the app is far easier to use than scanning a pdf and uploading on a PC, but the biggest issue with this app is that you end up going through numerous different login portals every time you open the app. If I want to submit an assignment, I need to first select what school I am attending in a super long list of schools, then I have to log in through my schools portal, and sometimes I get a 2FA prompt on top of that. Occasionally it just doesn't even work and I have to start from square one. Now this might be mildly annoying but it's really exacerbated by the fact that every time I need to upload an assignment I have to go through this process again. After spending several hours on an assignment it's so frustrating to have to browse through several menus just to upload a PDF. I get it's probably for security but I don't need NSA level protection for my PDF uploader. If someone really wanted to hack into my account and upload my homework for me so be it. If this issue was resolved I'd instantly give this app five stars because otherwise it's a great application.
As far as I can tell the biggest motive to get this is to directly upload work to gradescope without using an intermediary like adobe scan, but unfortunately the scanning functionality is very poor. It gets out of focus easily and there is no good way to make it refocus so it just stays out of focus until it wanders back into focus. It is also bad at picking up writing in various lighting conditions, so as far as I can tell this app is just a waste of time.
Doesn’t remember sign in, this happens on pc too, what a STUPID FEATURE. My uni also has 2FA so signing into this garbage program always takes 10 years. It also cannot even show you questions on the app and redirects you to your web browser if you try (seriously, why even have a mobile app?) this program is an embarrassment and it blows my mind that my university even uses it. Trash.
This app is unusable. It knows what school I go to, yet when I’m logging in, it makes me find my school from a list of every school that uses their service. It also apparently unable to remember my login info. I also can’t upload a lot of my assignments on the app and have to use the web version. Would rate 0 stars if possible.
Takes 10 seconds before letting you click sign in then makes you select ur school before making u select ur school again seconds later. Fire the people working on this app because they are clearly not doing anything.
This app is absolutely terrible. It doesn’t remember my login so I have to sign EVERY SINGLE TIME. It is always having crashes so it prevents you from turning in your work. It also doesn’t help that professors are clueless and don’t know what to do either yet they still want us to have it 🙄. If I could rate this 0 stars I would.
Why even make an app if you’re just going to direct the user to a website every time they need to do any task of substance. This app has wasted so much of my time and my gradescope experience would be far better if it simply never existed.
So whenever I try and scan a submission it gives me an error the second I open the camera but whenever I submit a file there’s an error on submission. And both of these issues persist even after redownloading.
I think the newest update ruined scan functionality on my iPhone. Timed submissions are no joke and this app almost cost me a significant grade. I restarted app and deleted and reinstalled to no avail. A total bummer because it was working well before.
Making you log in every time you open the app is so annoying. It also needs to do a better job of sending notifications before the assignment is do. Canvas is better and I don’t know why people us this.
This app doesn’t adapt to iPads so IPad users are stuck using a phone screen as an app. It’s probably less useful than just linking the webpage to the Home Screen
This app could be so useful, and in many ways (in principle), it should be. Being able to scan and directly upload to Gradescope is a huge win. Unfortunately, the app suffers from so many buggy issues and flawed design choices. Please fix these: - You have to log in every time you open the app. Every. Single. Time. - Attempting to change or add to your submission COMPLETELY removes your scans. - Scanning is relatively buggy - You cannot view your actual Gradescope submissions in the app after submitting!! This is essential to Gradescope itself! - You can’t see how you assigned numbers to questions in the app in an assignment. It displays all the numbers in one long line and, once again, requires you to use your browser to view. Overall, this app is just above the bare minimum. Please, fix the above issues and the app will actually be one of the most helpful/useful apps for assignment submission.
Gradescope already had a decently functional mobile web version. But, the most annoying part of using it was having to re-select my school and log in every single time. THIS APP DOESN’T FIX THAT! If you have the app closed for more than a few minutes, it logs you out completely (it can’t even remember your school). I recognize some of this could be institutional policy out of Gradescope’s control, but there’s no reason the app can’t remember the school I use to log in and use native iOS auth components (i.e. ASWebAuthenticationSession) to correctly and securely access password auto fill and WebAuthn/Passkeys for institutional login. Otherwise, what’s the point of having an app at all?
While definitely not perfect, this app was simple to use and it didn’t give me issues and had its own (imperfect) scan system so I didn’t need to use another app. And it’s not trying to milk me for my money like most other scanning apps! Normally I’d give it 4 stars due to the iPhone interface for iPad and the scanning taking a couple tries to get right, but I’m giving it 5 stars to counter the ridiculously low average rating this app has.
It never let me login on the app. I would go through the steps and then it would take me back the opening page it has when you open the app. The website is great but I wanted the app for on the go and it was horrible and I couldn’t even use it.
Ideally this should be an amazing app that works just like the website. But unfortunately to do a lot of the main tasks it requires or redirects you to go to the website. And I think most people download the app so they do not have to visit the website all the time. I hope the devs take this to consideration on their next update. Other than this, it’s an amazing app and I like the recent updates.
I would expect the app to keep you logged in especially if it’s on a personal device. Not the case for Montana State University (net ID) it logs you out every single time and redirects you to the schools website to log back in. It isn’t the quickest process and has almost cost me a few assignments that I was in a pinch on. Please fix this!
The app works as intended for uploading documents but I wish the devs would either steal someone else’s pdf scan api or improve their own, because scanning documents to submit on this app takes at least 5 tries almost every time to get writing to be not burnt out but also not bleached off.
I haven’t had login problems. The scanning/add file option allows me to submit photos from my camera. It’s very quick; I love it. The app is well designed — I can access everything I need (which in reality isn’t that much). My only complaint is I have to open Gradescope from a browser to view graded submissions. Not having it in-app seems like missing critical functionality.
Lots of students use iPads now, the iPhone version is inadequate. It surely can’t be that hard to slightly adjust the UI and it’s scaling to work on iPads. I just got the app though and will update with more use.
Requires you to log back in every time, which is very annoying. Also, when viewing a graded assignment, it’s not intuitive how to see where you lost points. One positive is that it has a really good document scanning functionality.
Gradescope itself is great, but the app is so annoying to use. It doesn’t keep you signed in so I have to sign in every single time. And on the iPad app, it looks like it hasn’t been adapted for iPadOS. Developers PLEASE fix these issues. With so many college students using Gradescope these need to be changed.
I tried to sign into the mobile app using my college account and everything, but I can’t even get past the sign in screen. Every time I enter my credentials it just takes me back to the sign in screen. Quite literally a useless app.
The log in process is lengthy enough with university ONIT. I have to keep the app open (and device unlocked!) or I am instantly logged out and need to redo the whole process. Very annoying and makes it very hard to submit assignments!!! :(
The app fails to expand to my tablets size. It has no zooming functionality. It makes me sign in every signgle time without even being able to search for my school. Inconvenience every time. Only people use this app because they are forced to
Seems only for portrait mode and will log you out every time you close the app. Better to just have gradescope online and was hoping for a way to export files directly to gradescope from note-taking apps but have to download them first.
Sadly I am forced to use this app for school. Every time I have to use it I have to sign in again. That is if I want to check my grade or submit an assignment which I do several times a week. This app is untested and half functional.
Please just remember my login info. Use Face ID or something. It takes so long to select the school and enter my login each time I just want a quick check of my grades.
Students, upload your assignments to Gradescope more easily than ever before! If your instructor uses Gradescope for your assignments, you can now upload your submission with our mobile app. After installing and opening the app, login to see your Gradescope courses and assignments. To upload a submission, click on the assignment in the “Not Submitted” tab and either “Select File” to select an existing file from your device or “Scan” all pages of your completed work using your iPhone’s camera. Once you submit your file(s), for templated assignments, you’re all set. For variable-length assignments, “Assign pages” to indicate where your answer for each question appears within your submission. It’s that easy! After confirming, your assignment then moves to the “Submitted” tab. If needed, you can resubmit your assignment until the due date your instructor set has passed. Once it is graded and grades are published for the assignment, it then moves to the “Graded” tab. Note: For V1 of the app, you will be directed to our mobile website for any advanced functionality, including viewing feedback and submitting timed, programming, or online assignments. Stay tuned for future updates that will allow you to do even more with our mobile app!
