I greatly enjoyed the app and it functions well, but more commands would greatly help the workflow while using the app. For example, Magic should have an editable color panel with each number key assigned to a color. Also, more commands like an option to add a layer (Cmd tab " ") or switch between layers (Cmd tab) would be useful, especially because each time you want to use the actual mouse, you have to click Cmd D before you switch layers or change colors.
I really liked this software. I used it to draw some Thanksgiving and Christmas decorations that I later printed out and put on sticks to put on the lawn. Good quality. On a side note, if you repeatedly reopen a file, sometimes it will have a glitch where it will start drawing strokes far under where your cursor is pointing. It's not this software's fault and is very similar to the Voice Memos glitch. It's just a macOS base system problem and needs to be patched by Apple, not this software. Very good app.
Some suggestions: - Some way to maintain the same position (maybe tapping will show a temporary red dot so you can get your bearings before drawing anything again) - Move the trackpad overlay via scrolling (two fingers) - It would also be really nice to be able to use the trackpad as a standalone feature in another app, such as freeform (because I mainly needed this to show calculations that are easier to scribble than to type)
this game is so coll and amazing at the same time ir better. but i want a little change i want the photos to be like the drawing you draw in sted of it being a completly different photo but this game is a relly good drawing it has differint kinds of shaded colors and everthing.
Edit: Holy....... this app uses over 20 gb of RAM... I checked activity moniter and it was using up over 80% of my CPU.... Please tell me that's fixable I love this idea, it's executed in a simple yet elegant way; but I agree with the other review about losing track of your finger placement. I think to fix this you can maybe have a click to start stroke and click to end stroke confirmation option so you can click to start the stroke and it would act just like the touch to draw mode then when finished and you want to move to some part next to the drawing you can click to end the stroke, reposition your cursor, then do it again. This can make writing less efficient and slower than it would be if you spent hours practicing your spatial awareness (because you have to do more clicking than the regular touch to draw mode) but would be very useful for things like doing showing math work on the computer (which is why I donwloaded this app in the first place). The problem with using the click to draw option is the friction makes it harder to do clean and even strokes, making work sloppy. I hope you take my suggestion into consideration because I think this app is unique and can be very useful for people who don't want to spend extra time on doing work on paper and taking a picture to save notes on their computer. I know people who would probably love this app and I'll tell them about it whether or not you implement this feature but I think they'd agree with me too. Sorry for the essay.
This app has a beautiful, clean UI and delighted me with its simplicity. I also missed the initial instruction on how to dismiss the drawing mode with ⌘d but just had fun playing and exploring for a while. The only thing that caught me out is that I have always had the "Force Click and haptic feedback" feature turned off in the Trackpad system preferences on my Mac because I hate the way it makes the Trackpad operate in the Finder and so my pressure sensitivity was turned off at first. I fully understand that might be a limitation of the OS, but if there is any way for the app to still be able to work with that feature turned off in the system preferences, then that would make this app just perfect.
I love the app! I was thinking of a feature that's a mix between the click option and touch that may be useful. I love the flow/feeling of the touch pad but I tend to lose my spot if I dont have a tracker for reference of where I am on the page. I'm not sure if this is possible though! Also, if there's any way to enable the eraser to be a bigger brush size than the pen size. If I had a small pen, I couldn't just swtich to the eraser and erase a quick mistake (as the eraser would be too small to work with functionally) so I had to stop my drawing and toggle back to changing the settings. I love this app, I just thought of some things that may help work flow!
This app has a lot to offer for MacOS, I love the force touchpad integration (which could use a bit of scrubbing), the clean UI and branding. The new AI update seems really cool too. But there is one thing I really wish for it to be on this app's update pathway. Mobile apps. iOS and iPadOS support would be an awesome big update for this app. Hope it could be in your consideration.
While you should go into this app not expecting to do anything exactly groundbreaking, I can actually see myself using this in a pinch, or sketching a mockup. It works really well, and the app is designed really nicely! As long as you have a Mac with a big enough trackpad, it's a nice app to have. If they keep updating it, I'm hoping for touchbar support of some kind.
The drawing feels very nice, and this seems very useful. the only thing is that i would really like to be able to copy the image to my clipboard without saving it as a file as that is much more convenient for me.
Using an M1 macbook Pro (14-in, 2021), the app crashed the first time I tried to use it. I have an external bluetooth official apple trackpad, not sure if it was the M1 Pro chip, the trackpad, or what, but after the first crash, any time I opened the app, as soon as I clicked on any function "click draw"/"brush options" the app just crashes. Not sure what's wrong with it but cannot use it (and would really love to! seems great... just wish I could even try it.)
It's perfect for what I needed. I can get the basic drawings done in magic and then export it and do the more complicated edits in another program which does not support the tracPad in the same way Magic does. You solved a problem in a simple and magic way. Well worth the price. Thanks!
No complaints, works exactly as described. Doesn't deserve the 2 star review for not doing something it doesn't claim to. Would be a lot cooler if it could apply this to other apps, i.e. Photoshop. Would REALLY love that. Maybe consider selling that as a separate app, lots of people would buy that!
Thank you Joao for the emails and follow-ups with the fixes to the app. It works flawlessly now and has really helped me step up my game with my video content. The best drawing app of its kind!
It looks like a super great app, and I'd be happy to change my review if it starts working better, but for the time being, my cursur just dissapears and it won't let me actually draw. It does let me draw in cursor draw mode, but that's not really any better than drawing in any other program. I'm on a 2022 Macbook Air, by the way.
A document in this app is the same aspect ratio as your trackpad. Use your finger as a pencil to draw on the trackpad as if were a piece of paper. Press cmd-D to stop drawing. I plan to use this with OBS for Zoom pictionary games.
the app lags so much when using my macbook pro touchpad. I can't really draw anything because of how much the application lags. I don't know if this is because it is optimized for apple silicon or not but this app is pretty much useless for me.
The only thing I'd want is the keystroke to disable drawing mode to be persistent because I missed it when onboarding :D Otherwise, this is an awesome app.
I was trying magic for the first time and I couldn't able to draw a single dot. Everytime I click or touch on the layers the mouse pointer get disappear. guid me the solution if you can
At first it seemed okaish, It didn't draw what I descriped but sorta made an okay image. The more details I give it the worse it got. Eventually I just said poop. I got a image of two malformed childrem playing. I asked for a cyborg cat got a cat meme pulled off the internet, the words were in a laungage I didn't understand but reverse image search found it. Seems like a scam, But really hope the developer fixes it.
