Borderline unusable since the big overhaul. Incredibly slow. Search results don’t seem accurate. Things I was able to find previously are no longer showing up, e.g. particular volumes of a manga series that I know exist suddenly can’t be found. Still has some necessary functions that I appreciate, ability to see current checkouts, overdue, renewing items, etc.
I use this app very often, and although as an old programmer, I sometimes think “I would have done that feature differently”. I will say this: The App Just Works. On top of that, when you report bugs, they fix them really fast! I reported an app crash bug on 14-January, and the fix came out sometime before 14-February. This includes the hang-time for the report getting from my library to the developer MLN contracts with. Remember this when libertarians claim private industry is ALWAYS better than govt. Sometimes it’s the two together that excel. I wish I could get J&J to fix the bugs in their vaccine trial app (now going on 14 months broken) and The Week magazine and Xinio (now going on like 3-4 years seriously broken)
This release has some annoying bugs that make the app difficult to use. When doing an advanced search of the catalog the virtual keyboard disappears and then reappears after each keystroke - making the user pause between each letter entered. This really makes the process of typing in search criteria super painful. Also in advanced search, when searching by author the app presents as bogus results all entries that have no listed author. Lack of a field should not match a specifically entered criterion. Very weak search capability - kind of a MLN trademark. It’s often best to search on the web (much better search engine) and then use the resultant ISBN to find it in the MLN catalog.
In the last couple months the digital library card no longer shows up. When selected from any of at least two locations you can try from, the screen brightens like normal but no card information shows up. I uninstalled and reinstalled but have the same problem. Like others I also notice the search results show fewer results than they used to. Even for material I know is there, I don’t get result returns.
I can track my holds, renew library items, see due dates a quick glance and search the catalog of either my specific library or the entire network from my phone. Not much more a person can ask for from a library app.
Came on here to get an update thinking they must be a new version but no there isn’t. I use this a lot and I’m very disappointed that it stopped working. It keeps crashing and disappears when I try to open it very upsetting. I hope they came up with a new update soon because the Library app has been great. Otherwise I will change my review once this is fixed because I really appreciate this app.
Suddenly, I can no longer see my checked out books or holds. Now I can no longer renew. Accidentally, clicked on set up new account and had to delete app and reinstall to get out of this quagmire. Like being able place holds and use the digital library card. If more problems arise or these problems not fixed, having this app will be wasting memory.
The app doesn’t open any more and hasn’t been useable for weeks. When you click on it it does nothing. When I went to the library and asked if others had a problem, they said people always complain about this app so they didn’t notice. I was able to use a workaround and use Libby to pull my library card up and will do what the librarian suggested - delete this app.
Pretty good and useful app. I like that I have a digital copy of my library card. I took screenshot of my card and now I can use digital card until I can find physical card. I was previously using key ring app but the library system could not read the barcode.
After years of using this app with no problems it now just crashes anytime I try launching it. It has become unusable at this point. I have tried reinstalling the app with no success in having it successfully launch. Is there any future update planned to address the instability of the app?
sometimes this app is annoying but what’s happened to me over the past couple of days is that whenever i open it my screen gets blurry and then it kicks me out. the only solution is to delete the app and put in ur information in again which isn’t really ideal. and this means i can’t see the due dates or put books on hold or even check out books because the card is on the app. this has only happened twice but in quick succession. overall it’s a helpful app
It’s a shame that this app was “updated” in the past week. There is less functionality, the text point size seems geared to the Large Print set, and the search feature crashes the app every time. If there was a way to revert to the earlier version I’d do it in a snap.
Wherever I am — whether watching the Sunday morning political shows, or listening to NPR — and I learn about a new book, I pull up the app and reserve the book. And it gets delivered to my local library in a few days.
I love the network, but they need a better app. It keeps force closing and I have uninstall/reinstall several times. Before that it would not load check outs, or holds. Several titles it would not let me request from anither in network library
A library app that displays not even the bare minimum of bibliographic data on things like loan lists is embarrassingly bad. Have to use the browser version to get decent info. Also slow and now is crashing, won’t open without a reinstall. Please try again.
Request item page is totally broken. Shows questions but response fields are not displaying which means I can’t have a book sent from another branch to my local branch. Interface is quite dated but I’d be fine if the app just allowed me to request a book properly as that’s the only purpose of the app for me.
Been using this app for years without a problem. Recently, it crashes. Reinstalled it and it works for a while, but then crashes again. Nothing seems to fix this issue. Very frustrating!
Have always liked this app but lately it crashes every time I search or try to click on a result (rendering it useless, can’t see what’s available, can’t place hold, etc.). Updated to most recent version to no avail. Please fix!
App used to work pretty well, but it’s been broken for a while now. Just crashes every time I open it. Assuming it’ll be fixed eventually, but it’s been at least a couple of months, which is a long time for it to be completely non-functional!
App is much more convenient than the mobile web site. However, barcode for account won't scan at checkout (in Brookline libraries) whereas an image of my card works perfectly.
App was working, albeit slowly, and now it just keeps crashing every time I try to open it. have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app and it’s the same thing.
I upgraded my iPhone from 12 pro to 15 pro. It was working fine on iPhone 12, but now it doesn’t even open on iPhone 15 pro. Ugh. How am I going to borrow books from libraries now! I don’t remember my library card number…
All a dark shaded grey except for library card page, some pages in small print hard for us older people and what’s with the loss of all the Color? Everything a shabby black on grey now. Ugly ugly ugly.
I got this on my phone to replace the plastic barcode on my keychain. Looks like theres a lot of useful areas here. I’ll explore more later. Seems like a good thing to download if you take advantage of the Museum passes and audiobooks. Thanks form making this. Support your local library!!!
Good app, fast, with a clean & simple GUI. Not landscape orientation friendly. I downloaded the app to use with my iPad (Air2). I have a bluetooth keyboard and case, thus I use the iPad in landscape mode. The app does not rotate. Annoying, but workable. Thx!
Please fix this app. As others have said, it has been unusable for a few weeks now, and it crashes on launch. This is an important community resource for many people.
Hi. This app used to work really well. Now it’s slow, has less functionality (can’t search for music scores anymore), and is much uglier. What happened? Can’t we go back?
Unclear if this glitch started with the “bug fix” but the pick your library menu is invisible for me now. I can see NEXT but not the libraries list. I’ve restarted, I’ve re-installed the app, I’ve sworn at it.
It is now impossible to put an item on hold since selection menus don’t display. See other reviews stating the same thing. The app could also get a redesign as it looks terrible and doesn’t scale on “newer” screens (post iPhone 5).
When I try to open the app, it crashes instantly. I deleted the app and downloaded it again, and it worked! ONCE. Now it’s back to crashing when I try to open it.
Giving this version a 1-star rating because on an iPad connected to a keyboard the screen is horizontal, but the app doesn’t recognize this and the text runs vertically.
